What to say.... I was pretty excited about this WD drive since I had a pretty bad experience with Hitachi Travelstar and Matshita HDD on my Dell Vostro 1720. Reading stats and reviews made me believe WD were really much more reliable...another plus was the 5 year warranty by the manufacturer... So I bought it - Amazon service is just amazing - I received it just two days later. After installing it I was more than happy - the drive was much faster than the old one, less noisy and more energy efficient. But this joy lasted for less than 5 months - suddenly, without any previous notice, it stopped working(as a matter of fact it had freezed for a couple of seconds a few times when waking up the computer but according to the reviews that was normal).Diagnostics showed error code and I had to use a caddy to save most of the important data I had on it. So I filed a return - again Amazon customer service was great - sent it back and received the refund. Now I decided to switch to SDD. I am using Sandisk Extreme 240GB SA3 SDK for less than a month - it is really much faster and doesn't heat up. It came with a 3 year warranty and I really hope it lasts.

Its Western Digital. This is a great drive for my laptop. I would recoomend Western Digital drives to anyone. Installing the drive into the laptop was a piece of cake.

Ordered, received, andand running within 5 days! Runs much quieter than the factory installed drive. Runs a little warm but not more than my small acer computer runs. Would recommend it to anyone needing a new hard drive!

Provides pretty much the best performance you can get out of a budget-ish traditional HDD. Used it to upgrade 2009 laptop's drive (which was a 250GB WD blue 5400rpm drive), and I can definitely notice the difference, even if it's not night-and-day like an SSD. Good enough balance between performance, space, and price to breathe in a new life into an older laptop!

The hard drive arrived days before the estimated delivery day which made me very happy. I have had the hard drive for three months now and its working fine so far. It has a 5-year limited warranty but I didn't see any paperwork from the manufacturer that I would need to submit. I'll have to contact Platinum Micro to see if I need to do anything for the warranty

Reliable and when you create 2 partitions (Boot and Data) you have a built-in capability to dual-boot and do a whole-disk backup that would be easy to recover from. Fast drive is also a good benefit.

I recently bought this 500-HD to replace my MBP Mid 2009's original 250GB-HD. For being just a HD, I'm quite surprised about how dramatically the processing speed has improved. I know that SSD drives are the best alternative you can find nowadays (maybe that is why they are so expensive); nevertheless, I'm pleased to know that for less than $80 I was able to buy one of best ranked, spacious and powerful HD that has given a new life to my MBP.

In my opinion, all of the mechanical drives break. Regardless of the manufacturer. Generally, I get 1-2 years and then have 1-3 years of warranty left. Whenever I receive a new drive, i promptly run the manufacturer's diagnostic software and verify the drive and write zeros to it. Then I know I have a fighting chance of it working during an install. After that, it is up to the user to carefully back up their computer on a regular basis. The WD drives are accompanied by an excellent return authorization program as are the Seagate drives. With WD, you can even create a discounted shipping label during the online RMA process and pay for your shipment all in one step. With Seagate, shipping is separate. But both offer advance or regular exchanges. So pick one, install it and back it up! Then return under warranty and make sure the replacement contains the length of warranty you were originally entitled to receive. Yes, this drive is quiet, large and 7200 RPM with a nice size cache, ideal in a Macbook, Core I5 or I7. The five stars is for the warranty length and ease of return, not for the quality of the drive because it will not last 5 years! None do!

Quiet & fast drive for laptops or even as an external drive in an enclosure. Fast is always better with drives, and the price doesn't hurt either. I updated a Vista laptop w/a 150G drive that a friend dumped because of failure, to Win 7 and this drive w/ a new keyboard and memory upgrade, I LOVE it! He's sorry he didn't listen to me.

Harddrive failed in less than 6 months after a very leisurely life. Can't recommend something that destroyed my data. Always backup and, I wouldn't buy this product again given the chance.

My laptop had an issue with the hard drive. I opened it up and found that the drives that it came with were Seagate. I don't like that brand of drive because of their high rate of failure so I have swapped it out for this WD

Arrived earlier than expected Crushed by USPS. Second shipped straight away and arrived it two days.Very good response from Amazon but they do tell you to ship crushed one back or they will charge your C/card. 500GB drive slip right in Vostro 1500 with window7 loaded via USB. Next is 2.6 processor. Drive is working without fault. More space, didn't want to go 1TB with this laptop.

So far so good. Seems plenty fast. Only concern is that when I tip my laptop, I hear a buzz, as if the reading arm is coming into contact with the plates. I hope that doesn't bode ill.

I bought this hard drive as a replacement for my factory Mac Book hard drive that crashed. I choose the drive based on reviews, size of drive, speed of the drive, and past experience. Since installing the drive I have had no issues and the drive seems to work better than the factory drive.

I had to upgrade my Hard Drive and RAM in order to install the new operating system on my MAC - I have a 2007 Mac Book. I upgraded my memory to 4GB - could not be happier - my computer is super fast now and it works like new.

Our 140 Gig drive was full so we installed the 500 GB drive, installation was easy and using the Acronis True Image software made the transfer of all data a piece of cake. Everything worked perfectly the first try and I'm not a techie person.Randy

I purchased this to replace the 320gb 5400RPM stock hardrive of the mid 2009 15inch macbook pro. It was very easy to replace in about 10 minutes.Note that when you are installing the operating system onto it, it will need to be formated first. This is very simple and the formatting tool can be found within the OSX installation window. Simply look for the "disk utility" tool and format it from there. Otherwise you will not be able to select the drive as a destination to install the operating system.As is mentioned in some other reviews you can actually hear this disk spinning since it has a higher RPM. This does translate into faster read/write times. Which means any task that requires disk access (pretty much everything) is done faster.The noise it makes is not particularly annoying, and you only notice it if the fans are running slowly; since the fans make much more noise at high rpm than the disk.All in all, I would strongly recommend this disk if you are looking for more storage and improved performance at a low price (the lowest I have found on the web in fact!)

I got this for adding more storage to my PS3. It was pretty straight forward setting it up. I have a fat model Metal Gear PS3.Decided to update it with more info. I added this internally. Setup was easy. You can use any upgrading PS3 hard drive manual, instructions.

Got this to replace the 5400 RPM drive that came in my Lenovo IdeaPad. I specifically purchased a western digital drive because that is the brand that came with the laptop, and this made a seamless and mostly problem-free hard drive cloning using WD's Acronis True Image software (downloadable from their website). Cloning across brands typically causes more problems, and I had none in this case except having to restart 2 or 3 times when prompted by the Acronis before cloning could begin.I sort of wonder whether they put these 5400 RPM drives in this model of IdeaPad (I have a z575) because the structure isn't built to perfectly dissipate this amount of vibration. I couldn't tell my 5400 was spinning at all, but now that I rest my hands on the keyboard I can feel a tiny bit of movement with the 7200. I am anal about this stuff but I think even I will get used to this and forget about it. It's not that bad. And I believe the speed increase is definitely work it. This drive took my Windows Experience Index hard drive score from 5.9 to 7.0. So it's definitely accessing data faster making boot time significantly less and allowing installed programs to load things faster. I recommend this drive, and it's currently one of the better deals since the Thailand floods.

I just replaced the Hardrive in my wife's laptop with this WD Black 500 GB. It's performance is great. The hardware change out is easy (5 minutes). The software set up took some time. Here's the steps that I took (cloning software didn't work for me): 1. Find your recovery disks or make a set if you haven't already 2. Load the Acronis True Image Software - Free on the Western Digital Site 3. Plug in an external drive and create a full backup recovery on the external drive. I have a 2 TB external drive. 4. Change out the Hard drive. You can watch a Youtube video for your laptop model 5. Insert your first recovery disk and boot up your computer. The recovery disks will set up your new hard drive to the original laptop factory settings. 6. Go online and load the Acronis software from the WD site again 7. Plug in your external drive and do the full disk recovery from the back upThe Acronis software loaded everything back including the Wifi passwords and all the software. It does take a few hours to create the full back up and then to the restore. Really, you should have a back up anyway. However, if you're ok with the orginal factory settings, then the recovery disks will have you up and running in a few minutes. I prefer to have everything loaded back in.

I decided to wait a couple months after I installed this hard drive, as I hate people that review right away - the hard drive could die just a month later! I bought this about 5 months ago and my computer is still running very strong. Easy to install, runs fast, decent amount of GB for what I need. I was an IT major in college but now my laptop does not need anything hardcore, so this was perfect for it.

Okay. It is a hard drive. It spins. It stores data. Uhm, yeah it does what it is supposed to do, and so that's pretty much it. I'm happy that it is 7200 RPM. If you want a slow dog, by the 5400rpm one.
