Purchased & installed this HD to replace failed 5400rpm orig equipment unit on daughters HP laptop. Installation was simple & straight forward, and we noticed an immediate improvement in performance over stock unit. A year later, this hard drive remains trouble free. What more can we ask? Great purchase.

My 2009 MacBook Pro suddenly died and I took it to Apple Store, the Guru there told me it could be either SATA cable or disk drive. Naturally I suspected it's the hard drive so I ordered this drive. Sure enough after swapped in the WD drive and re-install the OSX, everything works. Except I noticed the video playback doesn't work. When playing video from disk, it would work for the first 2 seconds, then the playback would halt, but everything else works, like playing video on youtube or surfing the net, etc. I noticed the drive would read/write normally for the first few seconds, then halt, and resume later. I was very disappointed so I sent it back to Amazon and ordered a Hitachi TravelStar.However, after re-installing the OSX my Mac won't even boot! After re-installed a few times and still didn't fix the problem, I took the MacBook Pro to Apple Store and ask the Guru there to replace the SATA cable instead. After the new cable is in, the Mac can boot normally and so far everything works great.Why the WD drive could work with a faulty SATA cable? It could be the WD has better error correction, or implement SATA protocol better, so it can tolerate higher transmission error while Hitachi drive couldn't. However, this is just speculation. I'm happy with the Hitachi drive for now but I'm very impressed with WD drive can perform even with a faulty SATA cable, and would definitely use it next time. I also notice my Mac boots a little faster with WD drive (even with faulty SATA cable) than Hitachi TravelStar.

I installed this hard drive into my netbook a little over a month ago. It works great so far. Of course, the real test will be to see how long it can last. I'll try to remember to come back and update if there are any issues.

I replaced a 640 gb 5400 RPM HD on my HP DV7-4270US laptop with this 7200 RPM and the process went smooth as silk. Since I used Win 7 backup and restore, I have to find a way to move the proprietary partitions so I can get the extra 110 GB onto my C: drive partition.Quick, quiet, and, incredibly, uses less battery than the OEM drive... WD Black Scorpios, whether on the desktop or laptop are top of the line!!!

As advertised, this hard drive works fast. Only downside is the fact that I had to purchase Acronis True Image 2013 ($50) inorder to clone to the hard drive enclosure. I could not use the free version of Acronis since it recognized the enclosure drivers rather than the drivers on the Scorpio Black HD.

Love the WD drives. I have Acronis for WD so I try to buy WD when I can in case I need to flatten a drive. This drive is fast and quiet. Absolutely no complaints. Don't hesitate to pick one up yourself.

I got this in hopes of reviving my laptop back to life. After purchasing and installing it it lasted long enough for the warranty that the seller had advertised. In other words they sold me a lemon. I tried contacting them but they were very quick to redirect me to WD and said they had to deal with it. Contacted WD and they told me there nothing they could do. Thanks a bunch.

I dropped my Gateway NV55C laptop and killed my hard drive (eek!!). I wanted to replace it with a hard drive with equal capacity, but faster (old one was 5400/8). This one fit the bill and was a decent price, so I decided to give it a try.This was my very first experience with upgrading or replacing laptop hardware, and it was much easier than I'd expected.I noticed a difference immediately, installing my OS took very little time, I had everything up and running in less than an hour. Another hour later, and I had all of my drivers and basic software installed. I remember taking half a day to do the same with my old hard drive!I've been running this hard drive pretty heavily for 3 days, with no issues whatsoever. It doesn't make any more or less noise than my old hard drive. I highly recommend it, and if I decide to upgrade again later I will definitely look into Western Digital.

I am having trouble cloning my old 80GB hard drive in my Dell M90 laptop. Although my laptop can see this new hard drive through USB, when I ran the Acronis software, I cannot choose this new drive as the TARGET drive because it is grayed out in the choices.Then, I bought the Apricorn EZ upgrade from Dell - this has a USB caddy for the 2.5" hard drive and a CD of their cloning software. The software recognizes both the old 80 GB and the new 500GB hard drives. It even let me choose both the SOURCE (old) and the TARGET (new) hard drives. But then it stops the cloning process saying that "Copying Between Drives With Different Block Sizes Is Not Supported". Apricorn does not have a tool to match the block sizes.My old 80GB hard drive has two partitions and this new 500GB hard drive has one partition. Nowhere in the warnings and literature mentions about this. Can this be the problem?I have tried formatting the new hard drive using Windows, I have tried the Acronis Align tool and the Add Disk tools but it does not help in the cloning process. I can write and read files into this new hard drive throuugh USB. But cloning was impossible. I have a lot of software installed in the old drive and I don't want to reinstall and update them.I'm stuck. Any suggestions?p.s. I am running Windows XP Pro, I have updated the BIOS on the M90 laptop to it's latest version.

The drive is not as silent as I thought it would be based on the advertisement. However, the speed is quite nice, and it seems to be more resistant against bumps and jolts than other hard drives.

My Windows 7 laptop detected this right away and quick formatted just as fast. I was benchmarking this within 5 minutes of receiving it. I ordered this with an external case, Sabrent 2.5 Inch SATA Hard Drive USB 2.0/ E-SATA Aluminium Enclosure (EC-25HSU) and eSATA cable Serial ATA 2.0 Cable, eSATA 300Mbps, 0.5 Meter (1.6 ft). The case comes with a USB->Power input cable for use as eSATA device, but not an actual eSATA cable. If you'll be using this as an external USB drive, you won't need the extra cable. Arrived on time. My original notebook drive is only 100G at 5400rpm. This 500G at 7200rpm is a good upgrade. Totally, it is quiet and speedy. If 256G or larger solid state drive can be lower than $150, I will consider a SSD. Otherwise, this one is a good deal.

Well it is a little early to write a hard drive review. But I bought two of these and they arrived in perfect condition well packed and on time. Easy to install and load Windows 7. Cost was great. Quiet and working well. Time will be the true test.

This drive was slick, fast, and relatively cheap. In an external drive bay, I transferred my system easily with Carbon Copy Cloner. When I installed it into my late 2006 MacBook Pro [a1211] it was not recognized. After hours on the Western Digital tech support line, I learned that the problem is that there is no way for the older Mac to auto-negotiate a slower transfer speed because its controller lacks that ability. And there is no way to throttle down the fast drive with jumpers either. So the drive continues to spew out 3 Gb/sec data which is too fast for my computer. Stars deducted for the low technical level of WD tech support [though courteous, I basically had to use them to learn how to diagnose my problem on my own]. My first bad experience with a WD drive, which has always been my go-to company for good quality.

The package arrived in the estimated delivery time. I had some issues at first attempting to recognize the disc. I ended up formatting the disk and then installing Windows. The Windows Index for the HDD is 5.9, which is really good for a non-SSD hard drive. It's certainly a noticeable performance boost over the 80GB IDE drive I had previously.The drive is quiet and quick and packs enough space to install applications and store files until they are ready to be moved to more permanent placements on external drives.Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a custom-built PC

Honestly this was the best harddrive i have bought yet. It was cheap and shipping was fast and ontime! For $90 it was a pretty good deal. you pretty much get what your money is worth. I purchased this for my Playstation 3 and it worked great and had no problem. Only bad thing about replacing your Playstation 3 memory is getting the updates from the playstation website and also re-downloading all your content back on to the harddrive. trust me very time consuming! But yet overall it was a good deal and worth buying if your getting it for the playstation 3!

I replaced my 250GB Seagate harddrive out with this drive. It has exceeded my expectations of what I wanted. For one there is more space on the drive, it's quite when it is running. The Price!!! I prefer WD over Seagate in my opinion they are more reliable.

Just wanted to say that this was a perfect upgrade for my aging Playstation3. I have the original full size 80G that was released back in 2009. This was a perfect fit and the overall process took like 10 minutes. The backup and restore process took a while but I'm so glad I upgraded. I'm not a big gamer but having the extra space is so nice.

I ordered this hard drive after my old hard drive in my late 2008 Macbook Pro went out. Ordered it at 5:30 PM and it arrived 8:30 AM the following morning. It was packaged and protected great. Just incase you dont know, it is a BARE drive, so dont expect anything but the hard drive when you order it. Installation, literally, took about 2 minutes. Its working great so far, no problems or glitches. I am pretty hard on it, I work in a recording studio, running multiple things, and very huge projects all at once, and it hasn't let me down so far.Very satisfied with this purchase!

Well, i have always been a Western Digital fan and have used them for all my personal computer builds, along with my customer computer build's. Anyway, i wanted to upgrade my hard drive for my ps3. I had a old 40 gig hatachi hdd that was only pushing 8mb cache and 5,600 rpm spindle speed. The hatachi hdd's have always had extreme heat issue's & the performance isn't the best neither. Now that i have Western Digital's top of the line HDD, i can now fit 100+ games on my ps3 with remarkable performance i expect from western digital. Great drive with awesome performance, silent & cooler then the original drive this thing came with. Everyone knows with the older model ps3 they have a over heating issue. So here is what i did to correct the issue & recommend you do the same.1. Puruchase this hard drive.2. Purchase the aftermarket cooler Double sided tape might be required to help stablize the housing )3. Clean out all dust & debrit from inside case.4. Purchase Arttic Thermal PasteSo far this thing runs much faster, smoother, cooler then it ever had from time of pruchase. I hope this information help's & happy gaming.

Have had good results with Western Digital drives. Lately, I have noticed that there are many people still using Windows XP who have had some difficulties with the new Advanced Format Drives that Western Digital is producing. THIS DRIVE (the one sold by Amazon--which I purchased) IS ADVANCED FORMAT. I know that Western Digital does have software that they claim takes care of this issue with Windows XP. However, reality seems to indicate that there are a lot of people that are still running Windows XP because they cannot afford the new laptop or computer,or do not see the necessity of getting a new machine. A great deal of these people are NOT really aware of the implications of the Advanced Format Drives with Windows XP, nor the Western Digital software and how to use it. I did upgrade a Toshiba Qosmio F45-AV411 running Windows Vista Ultimate using the provided Toshiba restore discs for a clean install (the restore discs were not up to Service Pack 1--but did install all service packs and updates after Toshiba restore discs finished installing and configuring). Have had no issues with the hard drive with this configuration, to this point. Upgraded 15" MacBook pro (late 2008 model) which was really full and struggling in speed (iPhoto almost unusable with over 33k photos). Had a 5400 rpm drive before (stock)...320gb. Took a while to login, wake from sleep etc. disk wrote speed on xbench was down to less than 10MBps. Put this puppy in an, boom! Amazingly fast! Write speed almost 10x improvement. iPhoto really fast. All programs open almost instantly. Wake from sleep and login logout also really fast.Had read amazon reviews before and others commented its like a new computer. Ditto here.Granted I am using the higher performance settings so maybe an effect on battery life but if I'm careful with brightness and open browsers might get 3 hours on high perf setting. Battery life this mbp model sux anyway.Very happy!

I bought two of these to replace aging, smaller drives in Windows XP Dell laptop computers for a client. I was worried about the Advanced Format technology, and I despise having to register the drive to download the Western Digital software to accommodate it. [...]I used Clonezilla to image the original drive on the first computer and Acronis True Image WD Edition for the second computer. Both were straightforward processes and the resulting systems performed equally well, with each posting HDTune speeds well over 80 MB/s. I don't remember the exact speeds, but both were more than twice the speeds of the older 60 and 80 GB drives.Next time I'll use Clonezilla Live again. It works well with the Advanced Format technology, doesn't require an install on the computer, and, since it's free and open source, it doesn't require any registration to download or use. Acronis True Image WD Edition worked well enough, though, and it does have a pretty Graphical User Interface. I would recommend it for the average home user.Great drives, and my clients are very happy with the results.
