I bought this purely to wash my carpets (landing/stairs and son's room) not as a vacuum cleaner. I have a Henry (best vacuum ever) so I did not need to use the vacuum mode, although I thought as the price was so low and it had a lot of good reviews, I'd go for it. 'It would be good to have a back-up vacuum', I thought. WRONG! It took me ages to assemble all the bits and the tubing was a right fuss. The clips were useless (some were missing, there were nowhere near enough to secure the amount of tubing to the hose). Also, the water hardly flowed. I checked for blockages, although I could not see how there could have been any at this point, and there were none at all. Then it suddenly worked but only for 10 minutes before water started p***ing out the end of the tube. I had also bought the additional Vax washing brush head for

I bought this thinking it would mainly be useful for spills and to target high traffic areas. I expected to still need to hire the Rug Doctor for spring cleaning, but actually it's capable of a deep clean on its own. It doesn't wet as heavily in the first pass as a Rug Doctor, but it's certainly less tiring to use and having it under the stairs means that carpet cleaning needn't be a marathon task to justify a day's hire.
I've used it for carpets in a house we've moved into, and the water is reassuringly dirty, meaning it really is getting into the pile. I haven't really used it as a vacuum yet but it is good to know we could use it if we have a washer flood or something like that.
This could have been a one star review because the first one supplied had a faulty valve. But what redeemed Vax is that they have a UK-based helpline staffed by people who actually know what they are talking about - the contact diagnosed the issue over the phone by getting me to try various things and then sent out the replacement part very promptly. So five stars for real old-fashioned customer care.

This is my 2nd wet dry Vax. it is an amazing vacuum, my house is about 200m2 tiled, I bought the hydro tool for it and have never looked back! It is industrious and does everything I need, it gets put through its paces, every week! I cannot recommend this product enough. I have been through various makes and models previous to owning a Vax and will never stray from Vax now. And the price is excellent, the original one I bought was very expensive, but the price of them has been dramatically reduced so that now it's not even worth buying another brand for a cheaper price, just get the Vax!

I bought one of these several months ago as our old vacuum cleaner had given up the ghost, and I thought having the option of shampooing carpets as well as vacuuming would be useful. So far, no carpet shampooing has taken place but the Vax has been used regularly. The pros are that the hose and the cable are long so you don't need to plug into different sockets around the house so much. Also, it has powerful suction. The cons are that it is very, very noisy, even after several months of use (my husband can't bear to be in the same room while I am using it!) and it is heavy so I have to be really careful carrying it down the stairs after vacuuming the bedrooms (I'm in my late fifties so not in my dotage yet, but feel that an elderly person wouldn't be able to manage it safely). I recently purchased a reusable cloth bag to use instead of the disposable paper ones, but haven't fitted it yet.

I had my first machine replaced by Vax under their 2 yrs guarantee as after a year of use, the dry vacuum function lost its force. I wasted so much time cleaning hose, filters, bags, and nothing made any difference at all. The vacuum could not dry clean my hard floor and did an even poorer job on my carpet. Vax replaced it at no extra cost. The replacement machine worked well for a year but after that the same issue developed rendering it useless. I called Vax and was told that the replacement machine was out of guarantee (just 8 months of use) and it wouldn't be replace or repaired. Utterly disappointing to spend

Brilliant! Once I repaired it! I bought this from Amazon warehouse. However it arrived and the main carpet washer head leeked when I used it for washing. I checked the lead and conector to the head and sure enough it was leaking everywhere. So I phoned Vax and they were first class, quickly registered the product and they sent me out a new hose and head just incase. I thoroughly recommend VAX for their no fuse simple service. No holding, as far I can remember. No 0845 number. No being passed round departments, one lady sorted it all for me. It's also worth mentioning this is the first problem I have had buying from the Amazon Warehouse! So far do's!

i have it now for 3 years - it is a life saver as i move a lot walk in the house in my shoes and had two dogs before :)
easy to use, great as a vacum cleanner and carpets look stunning - i just buy the cheepest carpet washing sollution from supermarket for 2.99 in yellow bottle- works as well as carpet doctor :)
the only downside is - i only use the apolstry ending as the big one is not very good- and even though the apolstry one's plastic on the side broke, it still works fine :)

Many, many years ago I owned the first Vax and it worked wonderfully well for some considerable time.
Now I require an affordable carpet-cleaner again and so looked to the various models available now. In the end I turned to this, familiar to me but improved somewhat.
As a vacuum-cleaner it is very powerful, being able to reach under furniture with the long hose. It moves easily on the four castors and requires disposable bags to collect the debris inside. For cleaning in busy or somewhat cluttered areas this is very good but I do prefer my Dyson's rotating brushes for lifting the carpet pile as it cleans. It also somewhat noisy - something that I remember well from the older model.
Where it does win hands-down though is as a carpet cleaner. And this is where some improvements have been made over the years. It has two buttons on the top - one for the main power (used when vacuuming) and another for a pump, which pushes the cleaning solution down a plastic tube into the cleaning heads that this comes with. I don't recall the original model having this and it does work very well.
The plastic heads used for the carpet-cleaning have switches on them to stop the water flowing, so they can then suck the water off the carpet. It leaves the carpet slightly damp but a lot drier than I recall.
It can be hard work and I find that after cleaning a carpet my back ached, because of the effort in dragging the hose back and forth but it is so much cheaper than the upright models.
At this price it is very good value (some of the models can cost several hundred pounds) and I'm glad that this type of Vax is still around.

Mainly bought for shampooing carpets and have used it almost every day for the past week.Very pleased with it now that I have purchased the spin and scrub head for more soiled rugs.Already had an upright Vax shampooer which is pretty useless compared to this. If your take your time when machine is sucking up spent liquid carpets are dry in no time. The vacuum head with this not really much good for carpets so I will keep this in shampoo mode and use my normal cleaner. Reasonable weight to move about especially having arthritic hands.

I finally bought one of these, after much debating, and I was not disappointed. The vac is really easy to assemble and has a manual that is easily to follow and aided by pictures. It literally took me 5 minutes to set up. It's also great value for the product. Not only can you wash your carpet but you can Hoover to.
It really does clean your carpet. When I first used it I was horrified to see the colour of the dirty water afterwards. It was brown.
This vac comes with many adapters and two 250ml bottles of vac carpet solution. One think I did notice is that the solution doesn't last that long, so I would recommend purchasing a larger bottle.
All in all a great product for the price.

Versatile and robust high capacity vacuum cleaner with the added benefit that it can clean carpets too. Easy to use, fairly light, the wheels make dragging it around simple. Cord is a nice length although it is not an auto retracting one (not a problem). Bags are a good size and cheap. Have bought these for myself, my parents and my grand parents. Only downside is that it wont stand on stairs - not a problem for me as it is light enough to hold one handed easily.
Carpet cleaning is a doddle. Takes about 3-5 minutes to set up then you are good to go.

I'm glad I haven't bought one of these. I was about to order a carpet cleaning service for the stairs and landing (the only area of the house with carpet) when a friend suggested I borrow his Multivax.
So I gave it a go.
To say that this thing goes through water faster than my kids would go through orange juice if I let them, is an understatement. Between the stairs and landing (in a 3 bed roomed semi) I refilled 9 times and emptied eight. (I should have emptied every time I filled, but after it started pissing water out of the side after the second fill I realised my mistake).
Now I don't know how old this machine is, and may be faulty, but apart from the immense use of water, and the overflowing bucket, I still found it awkward to use. It's not, by any means, user friendly, and it should be noted that I started off with the thing set up for shampooing, so didn't have to go through the rigmarole of taking it apart. It's very cumbersome, and even at that price I'd get the hall and stairs cleaned professionally 3 times before the Vax would pay for itself.
Won't be buying one, and glad to have an opportunity to try it out. I'll stick with the Miele and ChemDry for now.

This is the second Vax machine I have owned and I believe it to be a better design than the first one. So far I have only used it once and it worked well. The motor in the previous model kept cutting out possibly because it was stored for years in a damp cupboard. The stainless steel tubing on the new Vax is a great improvement over the aluminium which would easily jam together.

Great item. Took a bit of time to work out the best way to use it. When washing do a smallish areas at a time & the results are great. The cleaning head gilds well & swivels around to fit into awkward areas. Very easy to use & clean. The carpets look great feel good & the house smells clean.
Brought this for carpet cleaning so can't comment on using it as a vacuum

Just brilliant. Our hall landing and stairs carpet looks fantastic which taking into account our three dogs is an amazing feat. Did the wood and laminate floors lady weekend and again the results were remarkable. I agree with other reviewers that the frequency of having to empty and fill the water reservoirs is a little annoying but, when you become familiar with connecting and disconnecting the hose and pipe it's pretty quick.

Now straight off i only use this as a washer not a hoover but that's because i really value the washer function and don't want to do anything that might affect it. Takes the dog stink out of my carpet and so powerful it drags dog hair out of my carpet that i didn't even know was there. Just prepare yourself for when you empty the bucket because you'll be horrified at what was in your carpet! It's extremely noisy but it doesn't bother me because i would rather it be noisy and powerful. The tubes and piping can feel a bit fiddly and cumbersome but i suppose if you want a decent product you need to expect some to be slightly industrial in appearance. I love mine and people often ask to borrow it because nothing else has worked for them.

Much better than my old upright vax with the water tank in the upright bit and the waste tank on the head. This gets through way more cleaning water, which is fine because it's doing a good job in the process. I don't use the valve/lever on the cleaning head - it doesn't stop the pump, only clamps the tube so the water leaks out a bit under pressure at the machine end instead. So I just let the water keep flowing and scrub the head back and forth like mad until I run out of water. And that does a great job.

Bought the Vax 6131T Multivax as the price was really good. We picked it up on the Tuesday and unfortunately on the Saturday we had a burst main pipe and it flooded two of our rooms, the Vax was a life saver and saved the day. I have yet to use it as an upholstery cleaner but its as good as a hoover as I would expect.

Excellent! At the price - or a lot more, this is a beast of a machine. Gone back to one after twenty years because of carpets in our new house, and if arrived promptly and is excellent at dealing with serious challenges. An absolute bargain!

Excellent machine. Easily changed from hover to carpet cleaner. Cleans the carpets very well and leaves them quite dry. Surprised at how dirty the water was. There is also a tool provided for cleaning the stairs and upholstery, which is very handy. Great suction for hoovering the carpets, I purchased extra paper bags and a washable one, very reasonably priced on Amazon. Extra long cable, which saves always changing sockets. I highly recommend the Vax cleaner as it is very easy to use with excellent results.

Only used a handful of times, weak at the joint of the shampoo line and head. First one broke, Amazon replaced whole unit, happened again, ordered a new one, only for vacum head itself split. We have been very careful with it, no excessive force, etc.

Hose differs from the pictured one but I believe I have a better product, fits well and has a metal end ,the reason for buying a replacement is because I keep breaking tha plastic ones so this one should last the lifetime of the Hoover A++++ good buy

Quality product suction is very strong, very long lead probably 10 metres. and long hose can do whole rooms without having to change sockets. Casters make it fast and easy to get around, and absolutely a very sturdy product. Vax's usual outstanding quality. I filled in the 2 year Guarantee within a few minutes on Vax's web site very easy to do and a breeze.
You will not be disappointed in buying this product, and it is very well packaged.
