It's much easier than people here are making it seem. I Really know nothing about computers. Setting it up took me about 30 minutes and I can now monitor who is using the Internet and block them if i want to. The range is truly incredible. For those who say the range sucks they need to try moving the router to another part of the house.When we first got it I put it on the other side of the house and the range was great but only on that side of the house. I moved it into the living room on the opposite side and the entire property is covered. The house is about 5000 square feet and I live behind my parents house in the pool house. So I'm not even in the house but in a different one and I'm still a 3 bars on my ipad. My iPhone only gets 2 bars because the antenna on that thing sucks. But the Mac gets full power anywhere on the property.I don't understand why anyone would go with any other router ever.Ps I hate belkin, netgear, cisco for years of frustration.

Having gone through a half dozen APs in the last 5 years, this has been the best performer so far. The main reason is that it comes with a power over ethernet injector so I can place the AP 100 feet frm the nearest power outlet and Ethernet port. This let me run it into the attic and place it at the optimal position to cover the floor below. Since then, I have access everywhere inside, the back yard, across the street, etc. Now when I leave the house, my iPad doesn't switch to LTE now until I turn the corner. There is only one odd behavior and that happens when the DHCP server (normally your router) stops responding. Instead of allowing devices to connect (and not lease an address) the network SSIDs disappear completely. This means that if you were planning to set a static IP to do some debugging over wireless, it won't work. Not a problem for most users, and a useful feature in the enterprise, but a bit annoying for home networking. A simple power reset fixes this. This won't affect most people who use a single router in their home.

In really wanting 802.11n, I was looking to upgrade my Linksys with WRT. I found UniFI and did a bunch of research since I had not really heard of this before. I really, really like this AP and feel the big value is in the system and software - it rocks.It has great range and easily covers much more that my previous access point, plus software that really lets you configure it with lots of options such as guest portal. It worked out of the box and then using the software I was able to do a lot with it. I also bought one for my Mom as I supply computer services to the family and extended family.I have had it for about 6 months and am much happier than with other APs. Since I really research the heck of the stuff I buy, I found and talked to a company that installed about 20 of them using the software that it comes with. I got a demo and huge praise for them and was sold. I like the fact that I if I moved to a bigger place it won't be a nightmare to add in multiple units that work together. Normally, it costs a lot to have consumer wireless access points work together and have central management, so I really love the value in software and system.Easy to use, install, and configure plus great range and features. Definitely highly recommend!

This is a TRUE Enterprise AP, I have played with a few brands out there, then I found the Ubiquiti AP. Once you go UniFi AP you will never go back lol. If you are in the business you will love the interface, which allows you to manage multiple units on one interface.At first I was a little worried because it did away with the internet explorer interface, but then I realized it resolved one of my frustration with web interfaces. Most web interface are normally set to IP 192.168.1.1 which is the default IP for most routers so when you put them on the same network you get IP conflicts, or the unit is normally on a different sub net. The software resolve this, just connect it to your network and load the software, the software will discover it and say HELLO. In the business for 20 Years I have found my hotel like enterprise AP..Enterprises Level and a retail price.

We use this product to provide free wifi access to our customers using a simple landing page that they have to agree to our terms and conditions before gaining access to the web. Had one small problem installing the access point when the Unifi software could see the access point and marked it as pending but would not connect to it. With a little searching we found out that Unifi-discovery software that also comes with it needed to have the correct ip for the server computer inserted so that they could communicate. This could have been a isolated issue due to our network configuration but once this was solved the access point has been great. Love the statistics it gives us so we have see how much bandwidth people are using and with that info can determine if we need to limit the bandwidth each user receives.

I loaded the software for this unit on my PC, connected and configured it for use in our home, and have not had a need to monkey with it since - it just works. Our home's internet connection enters in my wife's office on the front ground floor and my office is located on the back, upstairs on the far end -- approximately four walls and 80 feet away. Our old router was good for only one or two bars on the far end of the house and would commonly drop signal if you were more than one room away from the router. What's more, I would need to reboot the old router every week or so when it would hang. Since installing this product, I've not only never needed to reset it, but I see three to four bars of signal strength in my office, and amazingly, for the first time, I can tap a usable signal sitting on our back deck, from our driveway and even in our cul de sac in front of our house! As a result, I have changed the SSID for this device to "GODSGIFTTOWIFI."

We now have two of these in our house. One of our two old Cisco AP's (commercial grade 1240's) croaked with a dead ethernet port (no way to communicate with the upstream network) and I bought one of these to replace it after doing my homework. Needless to say these are WAY cheaper than the old Cisco stuff, as well as running 802.11b,g,n (the Cisco AP's only did b/g -- no "n") and these are super easy to manage (unlike the Cisco -- craploads of settings). Another amusing thing I found was that the Cisco's running at full-power (antenna power that is) couldn't get out in the front yard of my house very well -- a distance of perhaps 50 feet using an external antenna. After switching to one of these UniFi AP's, not only am I able to easily connect in the front yard but two houses down the street. In fact, I've actually turned down the power setting to 'low' which is good enough. Since then, we've bought another one to put in the back of the house and it's working great too!No complains with these!

Other reviews indicated that the setup of this WiFi was more complicated than your typical D-Link or Cisco WiFi but I found that was not the case. In fact it seems that there are less choices to have to worry about. The power of the UnFi AP seems to be about the same as my past D-Link WiFi, which failed, so the coverage is about the same. I have it mounted on a wall instead of the ceiling so not sure if that orientation makes a difference in the signal coverage. Because the unit is ethernet powered the mounting looks clean and simple if you use wiremold. The wife loves the green LED glow and thinks it looks cool, the reaction of most folks that see it. It has been functioning for about a month so the durability still has to be proven.

I would definitely recommend this. I have an automated home and was having issues with my old ceiling mounted access point from Legrand that would overheat. This popped right over the 3 gang box in the ceiling without issues. The interface is very user friendly. It comes with all the mounting required and the POE adapter as well. I have my own POE switch but it will not work with it. Just use the POE that comes with it.I like the green halo light as well because we use it as a night light since it is placed on the ceiling on the upstairs landing. It has never dropped a connection so far after several months of use and the simple user setup is great.I hope this review helps you because I always used the reviews to buy this too!

My house is like. A giant shielded box. Its an older home, just over 1k sq ft, ca 1972 with plaster walls. Behind these plaster walls is a lath system made from wire mesh. You can imagine what this does to wireless signals..... Yes it kills them. I previously had two wireless routers running simultaneously but could not get more than 3 bars of signals unless I was within 3 to 5 ft of either router. Heck sitting in my tiny living no more than 10 ft from one of those routers i couldn't get a good signal. The ubiquiti unifi ap solved this problem outright. I now reliably see full signals from the ap on all my devices, as long as I'm in the same room. From a little more than 30 ft to 40, i get 4 bars. More than two walls away, we're talking two bars and in my backyard 1. This is with the ap set to high (it has three settings, low, medium, high). I plan on adding another unifi ap so I can get a more effective signal outdoors. For those of you who have a normal modern day drywall and wood framed house, expect the signal to go a long long way.

I have a 3 level 7,000 sq ft home and was using 2 wireless routers (1 as an access point) and 2 additional access points. I still had spotty areas and outside was very poor. I ordered 1 of these, installed it in my office and BAM! I could get 3 bars at the other end of the house and 3-4 bars 100 feet away outside. I've already ordered a 2nd one for the other end of the house so everything is covered.These access points are VERY similar to the Aerohive commercial access points. I put 6 of those in a School. Both use a great software to setup and monitor the access points. You can view clients, bandwidth, everything! The aerohive software has a few more features, but the access points are $650 each AND you have to pay a yearly fee for the software. If I had found these access points first, we would have definitely used them instead.For the basic homeowner, 1 of these will cover everything you need. For the techie like me, you will love all the monitoring and control it has. Install the software and it's up and going in less than 2 minutes! And no, the software doesn't have to stay running, it's only for setup, reporting, etc.

This access point delivers strong signal to most points in my house. Once I mount it on the wall next to my stairs, I will get even better signal in the kitchen, which is built on concrete slab which WiFi signal doesn't penetrate well. The power over Ethernet makes it much easier to mount this wherever would improve signal most, since I only need to run a white Ethernet cable to it and it doesn't have to be near a power outlet or also have a power cable and extension cord running along the wall or ceiling.I do wish the power cord on the Power Over Ethernet component was a bit longer, but I'll manage.Setup really wasn't hard. I followed the instructions. However, I'm employing a single access point broadcasting one network so I'm admittedly only scratching the surface of its capabilities and therefore not needing to customize the setup much.I'm thinking of getting another for my parents.

I have been putting wireless networks in my homes since the Linksys WRT54g first came out. These UniFi access points are the simplest and most stable thing that I have used yet. Much better than all the consumer grade Cisco Linksys stuff I have used. We have abut 6 to 10 wireless connections up at any time in the house and for the first time there are NO complaints about speed or dropped connections.And the firmware updates are automatic. I bricked my LAST Linksys WAP610N on a firmware upgrade so this means something to me. The WAPs seem to work together effortlessly, so I have 2 and will probably add one more at my (largish) 3 story house, and have turned off the 2.4 GHz signal from the Cisco E3000 wireless router. Overall, it is nearly an enterprise-grade product at a consumer grade price. And the included software is fine for a home or a small office. Buy it, it is much better than what is out there.UPDATE 8/28/2012 - While the system is great, be sure that you do NOT try to use it with Java 7 or let your system automatically update to Java 7. Remove all your Java installs and instal JRE 6 BEFORE you install the UniFi software.1.6.0_34 seems to be fine.UPDATE 11/29/2012 - I updated UniFi to version 2.3.8 and it works fine with Java 7 now (Version 7 update 9). No worries and still very pleased with it. No crashes, never needs to be reset, very stable.

Believe it or not, I'm using these to augment our Cisco 1200 APs. The 1200s have served me well over the years, with the occasional lock-up which would require physically power cycling the AP. We're powering down the 2.4GHz radios on the 1200s and are turning that over to the Ubiquiti gear.The Ubiquiti gear is being used primarily for BYOD/guest access, and so far they've been working great. Installation went smoothly, and the APs are very unobtrusive, even when mounted below the ceiling tiles. Our Cisco 1200s, for comparison, are hidden above the ceiling tiles due to their rather ugly appearance. 4+ weeks with these APs and no lockups, no user complaints so far. Even with multiple users running Spotify (which runs as a peer-to-peer downloader), no congestion or packet issues. Even VoIP via Wifi working fine on them. We're handling access via RADIUS, no issues there either.Overall, these really are plug-n-play, providing you know what you're doing. These aren't for home/consumer use. BUT, if you understand networking, you'll be waiting longer for their software controller to install than getting these going.

Running a Windows 7 machine, the management software would not start up after installation. I uninstalled the software and downloaded a version direct from the Ubiquiti web site. That installed and opened the management software without a problem. Only other thing I have had to change is I ran my network with a SSID but hidden with no password. This forces me to add a password and am now trying to reconfigure wireless printers to add the password. Signal strength is wonderful. It is replacing a Verizon FIOS wireless setup as the signal on the wireless portion of the router was low in portions of the house and has also been dropping periodically.

I bought this based on others' review - I don't think I'm going to be disappointed.They've been running for about 10 days or so, so far no glitches. Based on some ping tests, they do suffer from a tiny bit of latency - 2-10ms ping time vs. 1ms ping being wired to the network, but mostly between 2-6ms ping.Also, reading on other forums led me to find that having one of these mounted near large metallic objects would cause signal to suffer. Of course this is true of all wifi devices but obviously some are affected more than others.Overall, this is a great product, especially for the money. It absolutely works as expected, the software seems to be well thought out and implemented.

I have yet to hang it, but it works great. The mgmt. software is a little weird if you're used to more traditional routers, but once you get the hang of it everything's great.This thing works independent as an access point on your network, but you have to have your "server" on to use guest mode (your server is just whatever computer you use for your mgmt. software).I did initially try to configure this on a windows 8 computer and had zero success. I moved it over to a Windows 7 pc and everything worked fine. I called the companies tech support number for help before I tried the Windows 7 pc, but found they don't really have live tech support... it's just an answering machine. I left my info, but no one called me back.Net/net - it looks like a smoke detector (you can turn the LED glow off) and it works great.

Let me start by saying unless you have some networking background don't bother. This is also just an access point, so don't expect routing features or anything else. Performance wise it will never slow down, never need a reboot, and has a powerful web management interface that can control multiple access points at once. I have this located in a closet on the second floor of my house and still can get full signal outside in all areas of the yard. If you're tired of all the bad wireless devices out there then get this, you won't regret it.Update 1/5/13: Stress tested the Unifi with 10 devices all streaming YouTube videos, not even a hiccup or buffering issue. Truly a great product.I also installed a few of these "Long Range" editions for a small business recently. They commented how their wireless printers and devices have been 100% stable over their Linksys Wireless N AP when they had to reboot once or twice a week.

This is a terrific and incredibly easy to install/setup access point. The only problem I have with it is that it does not bridge or repeat non-Ubiquiti AP signals. I thought it would expand my current wireless network (ASUS Router) but that is not the case. After determining this I almost sent the device back but its intuitive interface, easy setup, POE, and scale-ability made me end up keeping it. I'll order a second and do away with the wi-fi from my Asus router and an old legacy Linksys network I have running in my house. Coverage from a single unit seems to be better than any Linksys, Netgear, or Asus router I've used. I'm running 3 Axis IP cameras (3mp) into a wireless bridge and connecting the wireless bridge back to the network via this Ubiquiti AP. It has no problem handling the data from those cameras.

I installed this over a year ago. It has worked flawlessly. I'm using it with the PoE (Power over Ethernet) adapter that came with it. Software was installed on my Windows 7 computer. I regularly check/download software from the manufacturer's web site rather than use the CD before I install anything. Easy setup. Mounted UniFi WAP on the ceiling. Not much bigger than my smoke detector. The circular light gives you visual indication if it's working (color changes).And yes, you need to run an Ethernet cable to the WAP from your router/switch. Once you have it configured, you don't need to run the software again unless you change something. I still recommend this product to all my friends.

As an enterprise wireless network engineer I am used to controller based wireless installations. When I saw the price and found the controller software was free on Ubiquiti's web site I had to try this out for myself. The whole installation was a breeze and configuring both secure and guest access was much easier than expected. The signal strength and reliability was also quite impressive!I still need to test out the hot spot functionality but expect it Weill be just as easy.I will definitely promote this to my smaller side line customers and think this could turn into a lice little income stream.

I put this in my house because I was having problems with the single from my Cisco wireless router. I simply could not get enough coverage. Now I have very reliable coverage where I used to drop it. The management is terrific and gives you a lot of detail about what is going on. This is the only access point I would install in a home / small office environment. The POE is also a nice feature as it can give you more installation options. The only reason I am not giving 5 starts is the POE is not 48 volts so you need to use their POE injectors or their ToughSwitch. The pro works with 48v POE and the 24v that this model requires. I have paired mine with the ToughSwitch 24v POE, not available at Amazon :( and the system works great!

It came with a very old firmware that had issue with "adopting". Google showed many others who had same problem. When I finally got it to work, it did not update the firmware automatically although it was configured to do so. The other day it "crashed" and we could not connect. I had to do factory reset and then finally it auto-updated the firmware to the latest. Not very user friendly to administer unless you are good at hacking at command line and are familiar with networking. Not recommended for novice users. When it does work, the performance is good.

I've used well over a dozen different WiFi routers in my time and this thing beats the pants off all of them in terms of range and reliability. When I first read the reviews I thought it was too good to be true but 8 months later this thing has done nothing but impress me.Warning: Not for the faint of IT. If you are not tech savvy go get an Apple Airport. This bad boy not only requires an existing DHCP router but also some knowledge of how to setup WiFi security.
