This is the HD camcorder I've been waiting for. Great Color and Detail are what you get with this take anywhere camcorder from Sony! I would have bought it sooner, but decided to wait till pri ces dropped. My first recording was shot on my Disney Bday trip. Watching it on my 50" plasma is like looking through a window into the past! Sony does have a newer version, the TG5, but the only difference is a GPS Tracker. Which I dont really want or need, save yourself about $300 to $400 and buy the TG1 before they run out!

It's a very high quality camera overall..but I have one complaint ; transferring files (videos) to PC.. That's a very very hard process for me..

I like the camera a lot - easy to use; facial recognition is a great feature; good zoom; picture quality is high. However, I have no idea why there is NO FIREWIRE CAPABILITY! This has to be one of the worst business decisions since Coke went to New Coke. Downloading video to edit takes forever let alone it being useless for live streaming.

I bought this product recently and I find all what is written under Amazon review 100% correct. Briefly it is good camera give you VERY GOOD movies & STILL PICTURES and easy to transfer the recorded materials to you computer - but it seems for me it had very poor stabilizer (if your hand not stable enough it will provide very poor movies - didn't come with shoulder strip ! and one of most important point to charge the battery or to connect it with your PC, you have to carry with you the docking station !!

This is a wonderful camera. You can shoot and shoot and shoot with no tapes. Review your clips with a visual thumbnail index. Lots of options to customize settings via menus. Touch screen interface works well.Picture quality is fabulous. As stated in other reviews, 3rd party software is still catching up with this format. The newest Adobe suite, CS4, can now ingest these files. However, it is very slow to process this format. You can use other 3rd party software to convert the files from AVCHD to avi or mpeg2 and get better results, but it is a bit of a drag. This should resolve itself over time.Overall, though, well worth the trouble converting for the freedom of tapeless operations and HD clarity.

Overall video capability of the TG1 is pretty goodThe most appealing and useful feature is the ultra portability.Also the startup time is very short. With the compact size, fast startuptime and easy to use design you will end up using this camera at many places/occasions and more often than the bulky ones.Once you start recording video you'll be stunned by how pictures are wonderfully shown on its little LCD. The picture quality though not as good as professional 1080 videos but very good for the camera of this size. I had earlier tried Sony CX7. The quality is lot better than CX7.Low light picture is horrible - very grainy and lot's of noise, worse than SD tape cameras. But this something you have accept with such a tiny camcorder.Can you believe - there is no remote control. You have sit next to you TV browsing through and selecting your video and pictures unless you want to play all of them in the sequence they are and without fast forwarding.All camcorders had remote control. I wonder why not TG1. Perhaps it's because of the compact size.The good news is the TG1 overcomes something that many competitors, Sanyo included, are failing at. Image Stabilization (IS) is amazingly stunning and precise whether or not you are Zooming. As far as Auto Focus (AF) is concerned, the TG1 doesn't overkill but offers good performance particularly in Macro Mode which, like the IS, is astonishingly impressive.Plus:Very Compact and StylishFast start up time , very easy to useGood videoGood AF even in Low LightGreat ISMinus:Grainy pictures, noise in low lightNo remote controlPoor Photo ModeNeeds Sony proprietary Software to edit video on your PC

I bought this camera from Circuit City on the day I was to fly out on a 2 week vacation. I have a Sony HI8, but I wanted a better quality camera to archive my children's activities.Overall, the camcorder is light, highly functional, and meets my expectations. However, I will probably return the camera. I'll go through my pros and cons:Pros:Lightweight5.1 sound is greatstill pictures are nice, but don't use the zoom. Zoom stills are grainytouchscreen lcd is nice and intuitive.Quick power on is a nice feature.Cons:The required codec to play the files are tough to comeby. I found that Cyberlink's PowerDVD Deluxe is the only 3rd party application to play these files.The included software is very basic and proprietary. It doesn't share the codec with media player.The 40gig harddrive is not sufficient for the HD recordings set at the highest resolution. Why would you get an HD camera and record at low res?I used my laptop to download. Later, I found trying to play those downloaded files to be a pain.Focus in low light conditions is poor. I found myself zooming in and out to try and get the auto focus to work properly. Looks like the SR11 has a manual focus knob.The videos, although much better than SD, are not sharp and realistic like HD TV. The colors are dull and the details are not eyepopping.Battery life: I bought the 5 hour battery and I got 1:30 life day after day.No neck strap, but big deal.The menus were not intuitive. Too many choices and screens.All in all, for a $1000 investment, I didn't feel I got the best value. I am not looking at a Cannon HG10, but I wonder how the still pictures are?

I was waiting for this camcorder for a long time... and I have to say I am very disappointed... the main issue is the unique format Sony is using that makes it extremely difficult to play, send or edit... it is so bad that once you download the files to your computer, you cannot play them unless you buy a Sony Vegas... or special player or file convertors....this methods really belong to the last century...and Sony should be punished for that... I highly recommend going with the SANYO product that record on MP4 format...I can write more about this product... but really for me this is a show stopper...the whole idea of moving away for tapes and DVD is the easiness of moving it to the compare for edit and sharing...and with their special format it completely misses its propose...

Product produces washed out grainy video at reset settings. Forcing twilight color balance will bring out some color, but accidentally pushing Easy button will put camera back to washed out mode and another hunt for color correction settings. Sound is faint and the grip is horrible. Because the grip is so poor, pushing the record button makes all video contain a horrible shake at the start and stop of every clip. Also there is no audio output jack for ear buds to hear audio while recording or playing back and there is no FireWire jack for transfer to existing Sony products. What's up with the last two? Avoid this product, this is something you would expect from China in the $250 range, not something from Sony in the $899 range.

I too was disappointed with the low light results from the SR10. Then I happened to adjust the Exposure setting. I turned it down a few clicks and suddenly the grainy image corrected itself.May not work for everyone but when I adjust it to room conditions prior to filming, it seems to turn out well.You adjust regular cameras for light conditions, why not a camcorder?

Well I bought this at Bestbuy with all of the gift cards I received. I have A HD 16.9 TV so I thought this would work great with it. Well let me tell you something. Sony and I believe Panasonic have come up with A new video format, its called AVCHD and guess what? You can only play it back on A blueray disk player. sony has software programs that will convert it to be able to play on A standard DVD player but guess what? 1st off you need to buy the software and 2nd even after converting to the highest setting it still looked grainy. HD? Sure if you have A blue ray player and burner. Sheesh Sony! is this the best you guys can come up with?

I bought the product about 2 months ago and have had serious problems with memory cards over 4GB. It also exhibits low battery when you charge the battery using external sources and then put it into the camera. The pictures are good in daylight and grainy in low light.

I just picked this camera up and found the video to be very good. I'm running an XP machine and I'm able to upload the video and play it fine. I've heard folks say you need a fast and powerful machine to run the huge files but I have not had any problems with that. I already figured the video quality wouldn't be as good as other products out there buy my opinion is what good is better quality if you don't have the camera with ya? This puppy will fit in your front pocket.The image stabilization and zoom are great. It focuses very well on moving objects and clarity is good. Digital picture quality is useless with this camera. One other big negative is Sony doesn't ship you the HDMI to MINI HDMI cable so you have to go find one. These are not cheap. If you go to best buy expect to pay $75 min. If you want to play HD from the camera to you HD plasma you'll need this cable or a converter.They are not easy to find either.Low light video seems to be ok and better than other products I've tried.In general it's the smallest solution with good video I can find.

I bought this a week ago, and the best thing about the HDR-TG1 is the size and shape, they fit in my front pocket and I can take it any where I go. The reason I bought this camera was for its size and portablity and HD and it perfectly matches my requirement al though I was thinking I could use this for all purposes including still images but the still images are not good.Pros:Size, and ShapeGreat user interface both the front buttons as well as the on screenGreat Video footage but not as good as u see on HD TV broad castsGreat charging and connecting to the computer, u dont need to charge battery seperately hence its always ready to useCons:Bad still images, horrible in low light conditionSony should have supplied the HDMI cable, and the compnent cable they applied is too small, and I had to buy an extender switch to connect to my 65inches TVThe provided software is useless, its so difficult to even trim video, u can as well throw it away, al though there are not much choice for the AVCHD format. I tried convert the Video in mpeg but it does not play on quick time or Windows Media player, I think I may be missing a codec, but it has no way to save on standard codec, hence I cannot put videos on web as mpeg.

This camera performs poorly in low light, as a matter of fact, when I used my 6 or 7 year old Sony TRV17 I could not tell a difference between the 2 pictures on my 50" Plazma TV. At least not for interior and low light video. Outside the picture was very bright and there was definetly a big difference between the two.I returned this one and splurged for the SR11. You get a 60gig HD, 10MP digital stills, and just a huge difference in picture quality indoors and out. And with a 10MP still camera built in, I almost don't even need a digital.The camera fits nicely in the palm of my hand, all the controls are convienently located.The menu's can be a little confsing at first, but after a few minutes it becomes pretty easy to navigate around, and if you're not too tech saavy, there's always the "easy" button.Oh also to save battery life and if you're recording in bright sunlight, the SR11 has a viewfinder which this model doesn't.I guess I should be leaving this in the SR11 reviews pages, but definetly save a few more months, or just spend the extra money on the SR11, it's well worth the expense.

Pros: small, portable, easy to use, slick touch screen, compressed video formats look great (1080 in AVCHD and 720p in MPG format), 'Steady Shot' noticibly improves video, nice zoom and the still shots aren't half bad (has a tiny built in flash!), and *true* 5.1 surround! (5.1 or just stereo, your choice).Cons: Not great in low light (including stills), battery time could be longer (I purchased a quick charging unit and another battery), memory is expensive (1/3 more than the average flash stick of comparable size), no mic input (windy days will kill audio).WARNING: Do not expect ease of use with AVCHD format and MAC (long conversions given that you have the right software). However, with an upgrade to my Sony Vegas software on my PC, I am able to natively edit Sony's AVCHD format, and 5.1 surround. You can edit the SD format (720p MPEG) on a MAC.

A great little HD Camcorder that does a super job....very easy to use, small enough to take anywhere and everywhere.....great video at the press of a single button....all the features you could possibly desire...video and/or photos show up superbly on both a HD TV and a Computer....highly recommend this camera..you will love it just as I do.

Good portability, don't expect very bright high quality images since it's small lens.Comparing to Sanyo Xacti HD1000 better in stabilizer, Sanyo is totaly un acceptable.One little tip for people having problem with AVCHD Intall Media Player Classic ( google it to find it ) it's a 5.5 MB file then just change the file extension from .MTS to .mpg it worked on my Windows Media Player on Windows Vista.But the play back was the best and not the actual quality was playedback by Windows Media Player. But it's good just to review what's been recorded, Sony Vegas 8.0 and Pinnacle editing softwares can recognize the format.

I bought the camcorder a week back after reading so - so reviewss. Amazingly Cnet.com didnt review this item but I found the review Cnet.au as editors choice of 8.4 +/-I download the video to my computer but to view the video you always need to connect to the camcorder to the computer or you have to convert to mpeg or whatever the format. I am disappointed with this.But picture quality and everything else is good.
