Had this a week, and have nearly filled the included 4gb memory stick with test footage, shot in all sorts of situations.I've seen complaints that it doesn't do well in low light. Haven't found that to be a problem yet, even shooting in a dim hallway with half the light fixtures out. Also have seen that the still pictures don't come out well. The ones I've shot seem perfectly fine to me, no complaints there either, they're coming out nice and sharp. And so far as the AVCHD footage issues, well, given that I've got a 6+ year old Sony Vaio that has been upgraded as much as it can handle, I sort of expected my PC to choke on the HD footage. And it did. Would play the first frame, and then would get stuck there while the audio played on. Solution? Well, there were several: convert the footage into something that my PC CAN handle, burn it directly to DVD without trying to edit it, or just shoot in SD mode, which my PC could handle just fine. Most likely I'll just burn the footage directly to DVD most times and not worry about it.Complaints? That I can't use the included software to burn an HD disc that will play on my standalone player. I've got a Toshiba HD player, and I'm fairly certain that the included software will only burn a disc that will play back on a Blu-Ray player, which I don't have, but I'm sure I'll get eventually, so not a big deal. Plus I have other software that will burn HD footage to an HD DVD on standard DVD-R discs that IS compatible with my Toshiba, so that should take care of the problem until then. Also that it treats HD and SD footage completely separately; while the camera is in HD mode, it won't play back SD footage, and vice versa. Will probably shoot mostly in HD anyway, so also not a big deal.It SAYS that I can hook up the camera via USB cable and record the HD footage to a DVR, but I tried that tonight, and it didn't seem to work. It recognized the camera, and would play the stills, but didn't find the videos. I still have more manual to read, so I'm not worrying about that too much yet either, I'm fairly sure that the problem is just a user error not a hardware error. :)All in all, very happy with this little camcorder so far. It's got all the features I wanted (some sort of optical zoom, rotating LCD display, anti-shake feature, in a "flip" body type) packed into a very small unit.EDIT 4/25/10: Have had this camcorder for nearly a year now, at this point have only one additional comment/complaint to make about it. After using this to record footage at four different music concerts, discovered that the camera has serious audio issues in the low/bass frequencies when recording in high volume venues, like concerts. Not so bad in outdoor venues, like stadiums (still an issue, but less so), but inside, when the volume is high and the bass is cranked up, it blows out the audio using the built in microphone. I've heard that covering the mic with something in that situation helps just to cut back on the volume, but I've not had the opportunity to try it yet.Other than that, I'm still completely happy with this camcorder. I take it with me everywhere. :)

Other reviews have fairly described the pros and cons of the TG1. I own a Canon HV20 for "tripod events" - nothing beats HDV for image quality and low-light performance, and I always use a quality Senneheiser wireless mike for subjects greater than 10 feet away. But there are too many moments in life - of one's kids, mostly - that are over by the time you go get the beast, make sure there's room on the tape and juice in the battery. These are what the TG1 was designed for - it's your second camera, for the moments that normally get away.I think the design and execution of the TG1 are brilliant. The IS and face detection work very well. Yes, I would have loved a mike input and an exposure button. But my guess is that Sony made these decisions of omission very carefully. If you have been waiting for a decent-quality shirt-pocket HD camcorder - as I have been ever since flash-memory models hit the market - didn't you expect to pay four figures for the early-adopters' privilege? Just think about it - this machine is roughly 30% smaller than its nearest competition, and Sony brought the price point for such exquisite miniaturization down to a level competitive with the other premium flash-memory camcorders. Every extra button or dial would have driven up the price of the unit. Design simplicity may have been a motivator as well - the camera's native point-and-shoot capability is just fine for about 75% of the moments most of us are trying to capture, and more buttons would make the unit a bit more geeky.BTW, I have not had any trouble importing and manipulating AVCHD on my Lenovo T61 Thinkpad. The video editor is certainly meager - one can divide and trim the videos, and that's about it. But the DVD-AVCHD burning utility is fantastic. I had about twenty minutes of video from my first week with the camera. It took about 15 minutes to burn them onto a 25-cent DVD-R, and watch it on my Blu-Ray player (BDP-S350), and the daylight images were beautiful and sharp, even on a big screen. From shooting my kids for the past week indoors and out, I have one other thought about the TG1's low-light drawbacks - they are more than outweighed by what I call 'form-factor-comfort'. It's not just the delay in getting out my big HDV unit that lets those little moments get away - the size of the tape units is inherently conspicuous and inhibiting, and my kids become self-conscious. The TG1 is roughly the size of my iPod, and its small size makes it much less intrusive in real-time. The little goofy moments when my 15, 13, and 8 year old kids all act like they're three years old are not perturbed by the TG1. This kid-comfort factor is of inestimable importance, in my opinion. There might be two diametrically opposite subsets of first-time buyers who might consider this unit as their primary camcorder. First are tech-savvy young parents who are aware of the camera's limitations, but want to be able to grab a video with one hand while holding their baby with the other. The second would be techno-challenged people who happen to already own a blu-ray player (this may, admittedly, be a very small group). Is there an early-adoption penalty? There is, always. Future cameras will be incrementally smaller, or slightly better in low light. But you only want an LCD so small, and the most critical limiter of low-light ability is the light-gathering ability - namely the size - of the lens. So until there is some great new video codec or a new chip technology, low-light performance won't be improved significantly without having a thicker unit. The most realistic expectation one might realize by waiting is having true 1080p resolution. But my kids get older, and less goofy, every day - 'damn good' now trumps 'even better' a year from now.So do your research, read all the subjective and technical reviews you can, and remember the compromises inherent in the very smallness you seek. You won't find the best image quality and low-light performance unless you go HDV. But for a great second camera, you won't go wrong with the TG1.

I started in 1968 with super 8 movies, moved on to Betamax as soon as it came available, upgraded to a Sony SL2000 Betamax in 1982, in the early 90's I moved up to a Sony 8mm video camcorder. I held on as long as I could and finally purchased the Sony TG-1 a couple of years ago. I will admit that the acvhd format was not compatible with my existing video editing software so I had to invest in some new software. But, I have been very pleased with the camera since upgrading to Sony Vegas video software. It is small and easy to carry making it very handy and the picture quality is wonderful. Yes, it is not very good in very low light but better than my previous cameras so I am still ahead of the game. I bought the wide angle lens designed for the newer version of the TG-1 and it works fine on the TG-1. Only complaint is one which many have with cameras like this and that is the LCD screen is useless when trying to follow action in the bright sun...so I am purchasing an adapter which converts the screen into a viewfinder. Still the coolest camera I have come across with super quality video. It is more "Handycam" than any of the other "Handycams." I can't imagine moving on to anything else in the foreseeable future...but who knows?

The minute I saw the camera on the Sony web pages, I knew I had to haveone. I am a long time fan of Sony's ability to turn out these small, watch like products, back to the original Sony walkman, a player forstandard cassette tapes so thin and small that the player itself would fitinto the same box as the tapes did.The HDR-TG1 is another Sony hit clean out of the park. The complaintsabout it sound like complaints that the Apollo moon rocket could havegone farther. This camera unites everything about where consumer videocameras are going in the future, pocket size, high definition, flashmemory, and features fit and function. Some of the complaints about it might have been solved simply with time. The video format it uses is now widely supported, and I got a newversion of Pinnacle Studio that supported the format just fine (butbeware, if your video card does not have enough memory, Studio justfails to display it without telling you why).I choose the HDR-TG1 because the newer version simply added GPS anda built in memory. I just added a 16gb card to get the same capacity forfar less, and I guess I will have to miss being able to navigate viamy pocket camera. The price difference is breathtaking.I tried a shot in low light, and it has noise like all other cameras. The photo still shot capability is adequate, but I carry a 12 megapixelSony along with this camera, and am happier with those shots. One warning, the software that comes with it is fairly useless. The"motion browser" was annoying with still images due to its need towaste tons of computer time accomplishing nothing that I can figgureout. With movies, it becomes downright obnoxious, taking HUGE amountsof time. When you try to cancel it, it warns you that you are going tolose video, a claim I will have to test at some point. Sony, allow usto turn this useless option OFF.The other gripe is that the export to .avi or .mpeg mode is thoroughlyUSELESS. All it does is turn any motion shots into nightmare comb(interlace) artifact displays. Pinnacle Studio managed to filter thisout just fine, and had far more output options that the Sony freebyapplication. Sony, if you paid people for this software work, ya gottaken.Otherwise, the Sony app is quite nice. It catalogs the movies and photostogether well, and thus I was impressed at how it integrates the shotsfrom my movie and still cameras (both Sony) well. The only other issuewas that on one machine that already had the still camera version thesoftware with Windows XP, it canceled the installation with anincomprehensible message about "use the original installer" withoutaccomplishing anything. It took wiping the entire application andstarting over to fix it. At the risk of being repetitive, Sony, you needto get better software programmers for your PC applications. That's it. Buy this camera before they discontinue it. Its a deal.

We've been using the HDR-TG1 for about a year on vacation trips, while sailing and hiking. In every respect it has proved to be an outstanding instrument. The HD videos it captures when displayed on a HD TV (a 40 in. Sony in our case) produces results that rival broadcast quality and sometimes exceed it. Yes, it's that good. In fact, it has now replaced our use of the SLR we formally took on trips. And why not, it weighs less, is more compact and can capture a scene more memorably than stills ever can. For example, on a recent trip to Paris we were standing on a bridge close to Notre Dame. To capture the full sense of being there I took a slow 360 pan that not only captured the movement of pedestrians and traffic along with their sounds, in Dolby quality, but also the barge traffic passing under the bridge. However, what gave the pan a special quality were the two old men I noticed while panning that were fishing from the river bank some 100 ft. from the bridge which I was able to fill the screen with by using the excellent zoom. When we got home and played it back on our TV it was simply spectacular. No SLR produced still could have captured anything like that. On the down side, while the audio is excellent, it's lack of provisions for effectively dealing with wind induced noise can be bothersome as is the difficulty in viewing the screen when in bright sun light. Other than that, this Sony Handycam has proved to be well worth its purchase.

I have owned this camera since December 2008. We bought it because we liked that it was compact and did video AND still images. It has been really great since my daughter was born we have taken tons of video and photos and it is compact so we never have an excuse to leave it behind. This past weekend (conveniently 3 months after the warranty ran out) we found that it would no longer take still photos. I used the manual to troubleshoot myself and nothing solved the problem. I contacted Sony and they walked me through some additional troubleshooting and that didn't solve it either. They said that I would need to send it in for repairs. I filled out the repair form online and it said that it would cost $171 at a minimum to send it in for repairs! I called a local place and they had the same type of pricing. I am extremely disappointed and now I feel that I am probably just better off buying a separate still camera and just using this for video rather than spending $170 plus to get it repaired. I am going to be even more upset if I am unable to capture my daughter's first steps because of this issue!

I've been using this camera now for over a year to record family vacations and events. I have greatly enjoyed the camera and feel that it was well worth the purchase price.Put the camera in proper context before evaluating - it is not a professional video camera - it is a small, high quality camera that I can slip into the front pocket of my jeans or my coat pocket and carry with me wherever I go. The all metal construction makes it feel like the high quality device that it is - no cheap plastic construction. It turns on almost instantly and is ready to record family moments. If you don't like fooling around with AVCHD, then simply place the camera in Standard Quality mode - the resulting output is still excellent in both daylight and dark or indoor situations. When I get home, I simply remove my 4 GB or 8GB memory stick and place it in a card reader to save on the PC.Don't get all hung up on the difficulties with the AVCHD (high definition) format. If you don't have the computing power or software now, just use SD until you are ready. Many people fumble with HD clips and then wind up downgrading them to SD to fit them on a DVD. (BTW, you can record about 20 min of HD on a standard DVD and play in a Blu Ray player. The memory stick cards play natively in HD on my PS3.)To sum it up, this camera has allowed me to record MANY more family moments than any other video camera I have owned over the last 15 years. It is so easy to take it with me, conceal it in a pocket and not look like a tourist, that I take use it much more than I would with a regular camera. The high quality construction and the high definition video are simply icing on the cake.P.S. - for night shots, such as recording half time performance at high school footbal games, I bring along a $20 monopod - it greatly helps in stabilizing highly zoomed shots.

Spent many hours on internet and in stores reviewing and testing similiar camcorders in price and features from all manufacturers. Came down to price, video quality, and zoom and O.I.S. for me, o.k. and an auto lense cover I admit.Pros:-When focusing and using the zoom at the same time the picture stayed clear, focused, and steady (unlike all the Canon HF series camcorders I tried).-Quick battery charge from docking station (took an hour).-Easy LCD touch screen use and initial set-up.-Regular plastic covers to card slot, hdmi, shoe, ect. unlike many manufactuers who use those flimsy rubber pull out covers.-Good manual with easy to follow instructions.-Paid $599.99 ($749.00 in stores + tax) from Vanns via Amazon and received the camcorder in the mail before I even knew it shipped even though I paid no S&H.-LCD screen clarity and color trueness is excellent.-Don't need to be tech savy to pick-up and use.Cons:-Feel in your hand due to funny shape of hard drive. Not very comfortable at all.-LCD get a lot of fingerprints since its a touch screen. Easy and cheap fix though, so not a big deal.-Like many other models ships with a short lived battery, mine gives me 90 minutes fully charged. Already ordered longer life battery which is pretty much a necessity if you plan on any type of trip of event recording.Obviously pretty new to me and I have yet to use included software. However, initial review would be five stars if not for the awkward styling and uncomfortable feel in hand.If your looking for a reasonably priced camcorder with good picture quality and easy use than save yourself a few hundred bucks and don't be pulled in by larger hard drives or GPS tagging.

What's the point of having an HD camcorder if you don't use it? This unit is compact enough to carry everywhere so I can capture those random precious moments. Picture quality is sharp and it's a breeze to use. The videos come out amazing on my Sony HDTV. This is coming from someone who isn't exactly technically savvy. Two complaints though - 1) Shoots terribly in low light / indoor situations; & 2) The memory sticks are quite expensive. They use the Sony branded memory which carries a premium.Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this camera to everyone except the avid videophile professional who is more focused on the technicals rather than having a convenient take anywhere piece of equipment.

This is an extremely convenient, easy to use digital camcorder and camera. It fits very nicely into both my pants pocket and small pockets on skirts, and the controls are very easy to use. It has good zoom control, is easy to switch back and forth between movie and photos, and allows photographing while also filming at the same time (which used to require a high degree of coordination with camera in left hand and video in right).Best of all, it is fully compatible with Macintosh OSX (at least with iPhoto and iMovie 09), working seamlessly once it is USB connected. This is no thanks to Sony, who had terrible documentation that actually misled me into thinking the video was not compatible and that only photos on the memory stick (which I did not buy) would be compatible. I am very glad I decided to just hook it up anyways, and Mac OS X came through to the rescue! The GPS tags worked perfectly with iPhoto (you just have to make sure it has found its location before shooting, as the movies and photos taken before this is done remain untagged). While it lacks night vision, it makes up for it with manual focus and automatic optimization of focus and exposure on faces. Recommended for its compact all in one and convenient use.

The only downside is it is a low MP and only 40gbHD but its still a great camcorder better then my old one it replaced. if you dont wanna spend 1k+ for a camcorder then get this the quility out ways the cheap price by a mile.

I got the TG1, which didn't have GPS. No big deal, but make sure when traveling abroad that the time is set to local, and the TIME ZONE is also. If you plan to download clips consistently, set the time and time zone of your PC the same or times will be translated and confusing. Do the same with your camera and you can intersperse high quality photos with videos.Buy the case - this was so easy to use with the case and attached strap. It even has a pocket for an extra memory stick. So easy I wore it everywhere and didnt feel encumbered like one of those bigger camcorders.Turn off the quick-on mode. Sucks up battery like crazy and the difference is just a couple seconds to turn on, but you can get at least an hour of record time instead of 20 minutes or so.View the enclosed CD video - it really helped me record well.Get the Sony editing software - free for the first month.Would give it 5 stars but not very good in low light, and image stabilization could be better. I'm looking for SW that would stabilize the images and any recommendation is welcome.

This is my first video camera. I am no way a video expert. I bought it for the arrival of my first child.Pros:Out of the box it is easy to get started. The controls are very intuitive, The 10x optical plus digital zoom give you more zoom than I expected when I purchased it.I own a new Intel based Mac Book, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to transfer the ACVHD easily to IMovie. It turned out to be incredibly easy and I had no issues with the image stabilization causing distortion. The TG1 is small and easily portable but the image stabilization really keeps the video from appearing jerky.Sony packages everything you need: charging adaptor, hdmi cables, usb cables, standard video cablesCons:Sony memory stick not industry standard SD. San disk is now making a cheap memory stick knockoffHD down loads are a bit slow. This is just a function of the amount of information and transitioning to IMovie. You can hear this funny little noise with the auto focus and zoom on playback if the recording doesn't have much other sound going on. Kind of sounds like Predator, minimal annoyance.Overall: This thing is awesome, absolutely love it. Not to rat out Amazon but B&H photo has it for $535. 40% off the amazon price.

This camera has been replaced in the Sony lineup by the HDR-TG5V. I bought this a few weeks before this stopped showing up on Sony's website and boy I am glad I did.For one thing (besides the much cheaper price), THIS CAM HAS AMAZING 5.1 DOLBY SURROUND. I had mine outside at a festival and wow.. it sounds amazing.. you hear voices from the rear and front and sides like you do with any surround broadcast.... If you are filming and talk to your subject, the sound actually comes from rear.... I was skeptical about this feature originally since the mic is top mounted and one piece but boy.. it is great.Now.. the NEW HDR-TG5V does NOT HAVE 5.1 SURROUND! All of the new Sony cams DO.. but for some reason it seems they took a step back here... it is just standard STEREO 2 channel sound.... I don't feel the true HD experience is complete without Surround... Sony talks this up on EVERY HD cam.. and now in the newer model it is removed. The only things different with the newer one are GPS location, cool but not easy to use nor necessary and 16 GB built in memory.. which a stick can be used all the same on this one... and it is slightly smallerI HIGHLY recommend getting this over the newer HDR-TG5V as long as it is available.... The main thing you buy these for is picture and sound and let me tell you.. the 5.1 Dolby Surround is incredible... don't give it up for the other "features" on the newer unit...

This truly is an excellent small footprint video device. The image quality is spectacular; the SD HQ picture quality was well beyond my expectations as well...(better than my DV tape based Sony PC-350). I bought this strictly for it's small form factor. For that alone, it is a great device. AVCHD is a pain to work with, but for time being, I am getting better video on this little camera's SD setting than on my older Sony. AVCHD compatibility will only improve with time. The only negative is the inability to attach a wide angle lens. The competing Sanyo Xacti has that ability (but lack of adequate image stabilization is a nonstarter for that camera), as does my older Sony; which really makes a world of difference when shooting in tight places. Sony should have scrapped the flash ring around the lens (as stills stink from this camera) and equipped it with threads to accept a lense. For that I would knock of 1/2 star......otherwise a great device.**UDATE**After extensive testing, I reluctantly returned the device to Amazon. With the small form factor, image stabilization becomes critical. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the stabilzer in this camera is not up to snuff. I was constantly seeing every minute movement due to the lenses' lack of wide angle. The lens angle is supposedly 47 degrees, but it seems narrower than that. Couple that with the fact that there is really no way to attach an aftermarket lense, I couldn't justify the cost. The images this camera produces are great. If you are complaining about AVCHD compatiblity, get toast 9 for mac, or vegas studio for PC. I made AWESOME resolution blu-ray DVD's on regular DVD-R media in no time at all. If Sony can improve on the next generation palm recorder with the above improvements......I will not hesitate to get one.

This is a really cool camera...I know it's a bit older of a model, but if you can get your hands on one I highly recomend it. It's pretty easy to use and I was impressed with the video quality, especialy the outdoor video...Of course unless you have perfect lighting NO indoor video is ever gonna be perfect, no matter what kind of camera you use.....To solve this I purchased a light by SIMA which adds plenty of light and makes the video indoors in LOW light very nice. Also I had no problems with my vista laptop, the Sony software reads the camera right away, I imagine some of those complaints are rather old and the problem has been fixed. Sony just seems to do it right with their camera's....I recomend this to anyone looking for a good HD camera at a low price.

I got it for $750 at Dell actually, which was the best I found without a risk of using potential fraud-sellers I found on google selling it cheaper. I think it is a good entry model into HD filming. It is probably the cheapest of the decent full-HD ones.I am satisfied with the quality of the video. I believe that the more expensive models might have better video quality supported by better sensors, bigger lenses and better lower compression/quicker memory write times, but I think it is a good toy that will allow me to watch family videos 20 years from now without laughing at the quality of SD camcorders.I am not very satisfied with the quality of the stills, but hey, I have a compact Canon S3 IS for that, so I would not count it for the rating. My S3 also records videos that are decent, but not perfect - that's why I am getting an HD camcorder. Otherwise I'd say the S3 beats SD camcorder. The 40GB HDD allows for too many hours of videos and can be accessed as USB Mass Memory device, so you can put other stuff there too.The battery life seems a bit shortish, but you can get a bigger replacement battery for $30 - a cheap upgrade. It also lacks a carrying case, so I recommend getting at least the cheapest sony one. Overall Sony accessories are very pricey, but you can get cheap replacements that work OK.The AVCHD format does not have a lot support yet, but that will come eventually, since Sony seems to be winning the HD formats war. I believe new Macs should be able to play AVCHD. I also ordered Sony Vegas software for editing (less than $100), that looks OK from the trial version, so you might consider it, unless you want to convert to AVI/WMV before you do the editing in Windows Movie Maker and lose quality through repeated compression. I also considered Pinnacle Studio, but read the reviews with complaints about crashes and decided to get the software from Sony (through Amazon :) ).There are probably better cameras, but they are more expensive. Sony wants to rip you off with its accessory prices, but that's their right and you can choose replacements. It's not perfect so I guess it is worth 4 starsRemember to get that carrying case, a tripod and a battery somewhere. A mini hdmi cable might be of use too.

I recently bought the TG1 and Sanyo HD1010 and posted a comparison clip on Vimeo.comOverall, I found the image stabilization to be very good, but the video had muted colors and looked less detailed than that from the Sanyo. Here are some things I really liked about the camera:-built in lens cap-slightly smaller size than Sanyo HD1010-high quality metal body (titanium)-matching case (extra cost)-5.1 audio recording-memory card plays directly on PS3Here are thing I didn't like:-Memory sticks are very expensive compared to SD cards, I found around 4x the cost-The battery life is rather short, only around 45 minutes (vs 120 min).-AVCHD are difficult to edit, can not be easily uploaded to Vimeo or Youtube without first editing on the computer. Sanyo's MP4 files can be uploaded directly.-No in camera editing ability, can not even join or cut parts of clips-Not able to record at 1080p-No external mic or headphone jack-Touchscreen has small buttons-The menu structure is confusing-No printed manual / comes on CD, I couldn't even find it online. My Macbook Air has no CD drive.-It sometimes does not save the setting changes if allowed to power down on it's own. You have to press the power button after you are done making setting changes.-No remote control included. Makes it difficult to watch clips on the TV unless you have a Sony Bravia TV which can control the camera.-HDMI cable not included. It uses a mini HDMI cable as well.-HDMI port is not on docking station, Mini HDMI on camera, so you have to plug it in every time instead of just docking it.-No ability to change volume while playing a video on the camera. You have to exit out and go into a menu to adjust the playback volume.-Playback screen only shows three thumbnails at a time, I couldn't figure out how to show many thumbnails at once.

So far the camera has been awesome. Its very portable and the battery life has been excellent. I have yet to record continuously to test the full battery life. I have recorded for 5-10min blocks but have done so for weeks and the battery is fully charged. Very weird. I have not transferred any video as of yet to see quality so I cannot comment. The picture quality is so so but I have not played with the settings to get the yellow out or reduce it. My main reason for getting this camera is the compactness. What good is a good quality film camera if you don't have it when you need it because it is too bulky.

It seems that I'm a fan of the latest Sony releases, because I bought the HDR-SR1 when it first came out as well. With the HDR-SR1 I was transitioning from a tape to a HDD camera and I think that was a rather dramatic change. Now I am going from HDD to flash and the change doesn't feel so monumental. The size of the camera is nice, it weighs virtually nothing and yet it is stable in my hand. I think this must have something to do with the stabilization feature, but I'm not an expert on the subject. The quality of the video is the same as with the SR1 or other HD cameras, so I wasn't as wowed as before, but considering the size of the camera I suppose I should be. The photos (as others have warned) do seem to be of a poorer quality, but it seems that if you switch it to camera mode they are better, so it's only the photos while in video mode that aren't top notch. All in all, I think this is a good evolution, though not a revolution and something worth getting if you enjoy HD video. If I had one of the later Sony HDR-SR cameras, I might wait for the next iteration of the HDR-TG. However since my SR1 was getting long in the tooth, I have found it a good time to buy.

I have to say I wanted the HDR-SR11, but was too expensive for me. So I found this one for $410 and took it. Well, gotta say that besides the 10 MP it lacks, this one is fair enough for the money.Good quality, plenty of functions, nice interface, light, compact, silent, cool. I would have never payed $900 for it, but what I payed was right. Maybe I would complain about not being able to mix the slow motion function with the auto light mode, but the night shot solves that. Some reviews complain about the camera, but it's normal to loose some quality with low light. It's not like it turns to a terrible image, just little bit grainy, but still good. The HDD is enough to store 4 hours and 50 minutes in the highest resolution; who really needs more when the fully charged battery lasts for 90 minutes? Well, I'm happy with it, I got what I wanted and needed: HD image quality with enough functions, and a pretty design... by the way, I'm fully using it this Sunday on the NASACAR Autoclub 500.
