It's unfortunate that you have to have this cable to use the advanced "App Radio" features of the Pioneer head units. The cable does the job just fine, and seems to be made from quality components. It is however very bulky. Because it's two cable loosely held together, the flexibility of the cable is hindered. It's definitely not a cable you would want to run to your console or cup holder. I originally had the cable routed on the driver's side of the radio so I could use it with a windsheild mount, but this cable is too thick for that. I found it was best to connect my iPhone to the cable and then shove them both into my glovebox. Probably safer that way anyway. Also, be careful when you hook up the cable to your "iDevice" as the connector is very rigid. It doesn't seem like it would take much to snap the dock connector off. It takes a fair amount of force to get both sides to lock into my dock connector.

Bought this and an Iphone cradle with the hope of being able to put the phone in an easy-to-use cradle when driving as some navigation apps for appRadio require input from the phone as well as the head unit.
Problem is, the Pioneer cord is so bulky, I couldn't use the cradle with it. Ok, so I'll use a 30-pin extender to fix things. 3 extenders later, it's pretty clear the Pioneer cord is not interested in extending.
At this point I may have to hack up the cradle and bondo this cord into it. Not idea, and certainly not visually appealing. I understand the need to have a heavier cable to accommodate appMode (after all it's plugging into a 20-pin connection + USB) but it is frustrating that they didn't take cradles into account when designing the connector.

Got tired of seeing "you don't need it" so here is the truth. If you are only listening to music then you can use a standard ipod to usb cable with no problems and it works flawlessly. But if you want to watch a video or stream video with audio from the internet you need this cable. The usb part allows the app mode and the mini av plug carries the audio and video. So now you can decide if you need it or not. Just depends on what you want from your indash.

ATTENTION: if you're upgrading from previous models from Pioneer AVH and currently have the Pioneer CD-IU50V cable, DON'T BUY this cable, you don't need it, the CD-IU50V works with the AVH-P4400BH.
I purchased the AVH-P4400BH head unit and Pioneer tells you that you need this new cable (CD-IU201V) to fully control the iPhone/iPod but what they don't tell you is that the previous model of the cable also fits and works with the new head unit.
I spent $50 on a cable that I did not need, the old cable (which btw cost $35) works so now I'm stuck with two cables :(
BUT, if you don't have the CD-IU50V, you surely want to buy this cable, don't get me wrong, the cable DOES WORK but Pioneer SHOULD advice their customers that they do not need to waste their money with a new cable if the new one is just like the old, but with different part numbers.
This is why my 3 stars not 5, the cable works (it is OK) but 2 stars less because of the waste of money Pioneer could had prevent.

It's the exact same cable that the audio store will sell you...only thing they either don't know or won't tell you is that this cable plays the videos/movies for you off of your iPhone/Pod/Pad. I was highly upset when I wasn't getting no video output but this cable is exactly what you need if you want the video projecting off of your device(s)

This product is amazing it does everything I wanted it too! I would highly recommend this too any one purchasing the AVH-8400, the only down fall is the usb cable is too short and you have to use the one supplied with the headunit. Other than that it is a great product! Quality!

I bought a new 2012 Pioneer DVD receiver but the special cable needed for full iPhone function with Pioneer Apps was not yet available. So, I looked on Amazon and there it was for a good price. When I got it the package seemed to indicate that it had been originally sold for the European market? No big deal as it was certainl;y needed by this US buyer! It was the same cable and it works fine - plus I got it for less than half the cost of retail (and still out of stock) at my selling US internet dealer. All good! I now am sure to do a quick search on Amazon before buying almost anything - good deals out there!

Works good but bulky and hard to install in tight places. I have not used the USB as of yet but I'm sure it works just as well as the iPhone adapter. If you have an iPhone case, you will likely have to remove your phone from it to connect it. Remember, I said it was BULKY!

I have the 4400BH and it comes with a USB cord. All you need to do is plug in your iPhone cable to the USB and it will work with the radio. No sense in having to pay all that money for something you don't need. It also charges your phone.

It is a great idea from pioneer to use iPhone apps on the car dvd receiver, but very few apps support it so far. Besides that, the video quality is average and it uses the same connections as the gps box, so I gave up using it (as there is no compatible iPhone GPS app with Brazilian map).

sturdy solid cable, and smooth so wont kink up. works with iphone 4.
one thing i dont understand, you need to plug in usb, and 10 or what ever pin connector to the head unit, which is fine, but why make the usb bridge off from the business part of the cable and have to run it all the way back? why?

Works Great with my Ipod nano and pioneer radio....I have no complaints. the cord is sturdy, and just long enough to let me plug it in and then hide my Ipod.
