so.....if you purchase this as a replacement be prepared to get an extension. i used a 1/8" x 6' stereo extension that worked well.

If you spent $400+ for the head unit I would recommend the HD mod.

I have the system hooked up to 12 inch Type R sub in a sealed box, with an Eclipse 500wattICE powered amp, all custom installed. My car (lexus lx450) is using the factory speakers and its included amp.
I have tried quite a many setting changes with this receiver, and have never been quite comfortable with the sound. Perhaps it is because of my factory speaker/amp, which played fairly loud at low volume levels (i.e. having the "volume" indicator at 10), but without a nice amount of boom from the sub.
Thus, after looking at reviews, and finally, after a long internet struggle, found this mic in stock and gave it a go.
Set up was fairly simple. Ensure that your car is completely off, insert key and turn, until accessory power only is powering the car. Turn off all fans and ensure your surroundings are quiet.Your pioneer reciever will probably turn on. You need to now press and hold the "source"button and ensure a complete shut off of the system.
Insert mic to the front Line-in jack, microphone should be placed facing forward on drivers front headrest.
Turn system back on by pressing source button. You will be presented with a setup screen that if you are like me did not know existed!
Scroll down and you will notice an "auto-eq" setting. This should be lit up to allow you to press it, if not, ensure you car is in fact off, parked, parking break applied.
Select this icon. Press Start on your screen. Close the door. Walk away.
From outside you will hear various "Static" like sound coming through your speakers, at varying levels of loudness. This process takes about 6-8 minutes to complete. When you enter your car to look at the screen, you will see an icon saying "complete". Press OK. Now start your car. It may take the receiver to "demo" mode. No worries. Press the source button.
You will notice now in the upper right corner "auto eq" has replaced the eq curve you had previously set and it will look flat.
Now enjoy!!
It sounds fantastic, much better than my previous custom eq setting. I noticed that much of my previous settings were set to 0. Including bass boost 0, subwoofer level 0, fade was set to center. Sub filter set to 125, and speaker high filter also to 125hz. This is what I had set before on the crossover, and was happy it remained the same. I did notice the phase was set to reverse, which I had not previously selected.
Not quite sure what settings will change on your eq, and am interested to know what exact settings are affected.
I ended up changing the fade a bit to the drivers side, boosted the sub level to +6 (knowing I had a seperate line level control installed to control sub power).
Again, very pleased, sound is much more dynamic, highs are pronounced, but not to a pitch that causes fatigue. BASS is much improved, I'm not sure why, but my sub sounds like what I envisioned in a SQ setup.
I highly recommend giving this a try, given the price of your sound system, the price is not unreasonable, and I am quite happy with the result. Plenty more tweaking to come... (I just love the feature set on this receiver!)
Cheers!

Quick note, "HD" does not mean high definition. "HD", according to the companies website, is only a marketing term used to sale the product. The term is licensed

I have a 20 foot+ long crew cab truck with a topper that blocks my rearward view. So I have always had problems trying to back into a parking place where another car was immediately behind mine with the two spots separated only by a painted white line. If the space was tight, I used to have to stop at least once, get out and walk to the back of the truck to see how much room I had left before hitting the car behind me, and then finish backing up.
I set this camera so that when the synthesized red bar on the video feed touches the white line at the rear of the parking spot, the truck's rear bumper is reliably around 6 inches in front of the line. No more having to get out of the truck to see if I'm going to crunch the car behind mine! It's made parking in a lined lot or parking very close to a garage wall far less aggravating.
The camera's picture is very clear and is surprisingly wide angle in both horizontal and vertical planes. Although it does not have an Infrared assist light, it still does a good job at night just from my truck's backup light.
I've had the camera for three years without any problems. But if it ever died, I'd buy a new one immediately. It's pricey, but just flat works. And it's far cheaper than hitting something - or someone - behind you.

I tried moving the mic around to different positions, with no joy. Thought perhaps the mic is defective, so tried the auto-calibration mic that came with my Panasonic home theater receiver with similarly over boosted highs.
I called Pioneer tech support, and was told they've "never" heard of any problems other than completely dead Mics. They tech was supposed to get back to me with info from Pioneer engineering, but hasn't yet.
I'll follow up here with what I hear back from Pioneer tech support.

After that it is very easy to tune. The hardest part is finding a quiet enough place for the Auto-EQ to do its job, and its not very easy living in a big city.
The Auto-EQ made a very noticeable difference to the sound and whether the result is good or not will depend on each individual's personal preference. In general the tuned result makes the sound warmer, fuller and the vocal distance further away from the listener. But it also made the vocal a little murkier and blended in. I would assume that this would be good if you listen to certain type of music (Jazz, Orchestration, Dance and metal, but less good on vocal oriented music types (for me, anyways).
In the end, its very easy to use and gives you a distinctive new choice in the EQ settings beside what's already available, for a reasonable price.

Set it to Mirror AV
Turn AV mode to OFF
Plug in Mic
Press Home
Press Settings
Go to AV Settings
Go to Auto EQ
Hit Start
It produces lots of static sounds from different speakers at different times.

Just because I can't get it to work does not mean the product does not work, I'm just having my own issue getting my headunit to cooperate with me on this.

I think I need help for that
I want to use it with my s3
