It was a good buy.

+++++AAAAAA
I'll buy in the future

HOWEVER!!! I bought this microphone as a last ditch effort to get my old sound back. At $20+ for a one-time use microphone, you may be turned off from buying this product; I know I was (you use the mic once, then the auto-eq feature is permanently available until your battery dies). It was WORTH EVERY PENNY.
For those who aren't sure what this does:
-Separates highs, mids, and lows and allocates them to different speakers/tweeters in your car. Basically, if you have high-end aftermarket speakers, your sound becomes SUPER CRISPY and CLEAR. If you have stock audio speakers and such, your sound quality will be DRASTICALLY improved, as almost all distortion and sound clutter will disappear.
-Establishes a sound stage designed for your car; without this mic, there is no way you can control sound stage with any of these head units. What I mean is, vocals might sound centered, while highs (cymbals, etc) sound far away. Basically, everything sounds LIVE, since you can hear where what is playing. (The drummer over here, violinist over there, singer in the center, etc). It sets up all this for you.
Now, for the CONS:
-If you have decent aftermarket speakers, (I tried 4 different kinds from Pioneer to Rocksford, etc)the auto-EQ will make your highs too high. It literally hurts my ears often.
-For some TERRIBLE/WTF reason, you cannot adjust the equalizer at all once you enable AUTO-EQ. This is particularly stupid as auto-EQ has its own presets. If you have a stock sound system, this will serve you perfectly. If you have aftermarket speakers, you will never get the perfect sound from a CD. The iPhone/iPod equalizer settings seem to be much better than cd's in terms of not-screeching-your-ears.
Installation: Easy. You just have to sit outside your car for a little less than 10 minutes. WARNING: YOU HAVE TO ABSOLUTELY BE IN A QUIET PLACE. A DEAD QUIET PLACE, IF YOU WANT THE FULL EFFECT OF THE AUTO-EQ.
BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU HAVE A STOCK SYSTEM, THIS AUTO-EQ WILL ELIMINATE MOST DISTORTION (ESPECIALLY AT HIGH VOLUMES) AND GIVE YOU CLEARER SOUND. IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS/TWEETERS, THIS THING WILL SET UP A GREAT SOUND STAGE FOR YOU AND ALSO GIVE YOU MUCH, MUCH BETTER CLARITY. EITHER WAY, BUY IT. MOST PIONEER DOUBLE-DIN HEAD UNITS IN THE $3OO-$900 DOLLAR RANGE HAVE SUBPAR SOUND WITHOUT THIS AUTO EQ. MAKES EVERYTHING SOUND 5X BETTER!!

For starters, the install couldn't have been any smoother. I did have to purchase the METRA 40-UV44 Motorola Antenna Y-adapter because I also have pioneers ND-TMC10 Traffic Tuner (a great product that is very useful) and the Y-adapter is essential in order for the traffic tuner to work along with the HD Radio adapter.
Once all set up, my FM and AM sources disappeared and were replaced with an "HD Radio" source. Once clicked, it turns into FM1. If I keep touching that source, it turns into FM2, FM3 and then AM (perhaps this is where people are confused with their "my AM source is gone" complaints?)
The HD tuner is set up in a way that when you first select HD Radio and it toggles to FM, it starts playing your old analog FM transmission. Once it picks up the HD signal and decodes it (approx 3-5 seconds), the sound difference is VERY noticable ad very much CD quality. If you're an audiophile, you'll appreciate this. You can tell that the signal has changed to HD because there is an icon (at least on my head unit) that says Analog or Digital (depending on what the receiver is currently using).
Now most people complained about the cutting out issue and here is my experience . . .
Say I'm on FM 100.3 (Z100) which is an analog broadcast that I was able to receive before I installed the HD tuner . . . when the HD tuner decodes the digital stream, my sound system sounds great with no static and again, CD quality sound. If the HD (digital) broadcast is weak for whatever reason, the radio switches back to the regular analog broadcast. The sound doesn't cut out but you can definitely hear the difference and that for some people ca become annoying. It doesn't really bother me much and it literally only happens maybe 10% of the time.
With that being said, a lot of analog stations like 100.3 FM have MULTIPLE HD broadcasts. The first HD broadcast is an exact mirror of the analog version. The other stations are purely digital broadcasts that an analog receiver can't pick up. This is where I believe some users notice the cutouts/reception loss. These cutouts/losses are acceptable in my opinion and kind of expected. If a station is only being broadcasted digitally and cuts out, it has no analog stream to switch to so you hear the cut out and there is some "dead time". When the signal gets picked back up, that digital station resumes. gain, this cut out (at least for me) is only when I'm tuned into a purely digital broadcast station.
All in all, I'm extremely pleased with this product. I would have given it 5 stars but it's not perfect and I personally don't like the way the RDS (song titles/artists) is presented on the display.

The product itself was a disappointment. For nearly $300.00 I would expect pioneers camera to have exceptional resolution. That was not the case. The resolution was so bad that the view was like looking at 1980s digitized graphics. I know It was a good installation. One if the countries top rated audio companies performed the install. They were as shocked to see the poor resolution as I was coming from Pioneer. So I would not recommend that particular model. Interestingly I installed a $130.00 pioneer camera that had terrific resolution. So in closing I would recommend the seller but not the $290.00 camera I first purchased and returned.

Awesome product. Works better than expected and has the highest quality. Bet quality and product features money can buy.

Folks you need to ensure the park brake wire is grounded for the menu to allow you to use this mic. If you are using a park brake bypass, it won't work. You've got to ground the brake wire. Use alligator clips if needed. For the AVH-X5500BHS receiver no need to plug the mic in until you've selected Auto EQ. When you start Auto EQ the door will open exposing the mic plug in port to use.
Now for how well did the mic work... Well it worked. Can't say it made the sound better. I'm using in a 2004 Mustang with a Mach speaker system. I tried a couple times but think I can do a better job at setting the equalizer myself.
One last note... If you use Auto EQ, you will notice that manual equalizer settings are locked out. Not entirely true. Look in the System Settings menu and you will find a setting to turn Auto EQ off.
