We bought our wii for the purpose to lose weight and it worked.
Its not only a game but a healthy way to play games(:

Small boxes
You ever have that feeling of complete bliss? We have those moments when your memories from the past have slipped within a secret compartment in your mind, a doorway that shows you a peaceful, wonderful place living inside your mind. This body creates sketches, pages, pictures, feelings, from our life and puts it all in a small little box, neatly stored away to see and flip thru like an old picture book. Well, if you have been in that state or in a convertible, driving along a highway and the wind in your hair, music swirls around you from the stereo and the road showing you no end in sight for it seems like the car has wings. It's great, isn't it? The way the music can take you and your past, blend them together like a beautiful sonnet and recite back to you the emotions of that time.
I am speaking of a small box, a wonder that can strangely, bring these feelings to the surface. You can sense them in your mind and body. It's called a Wii. The Nintendo Wii is a gaming console that is beyond just an ordinary game machine. I am sure most of you reading this are thinking, what's he is on about. I have just wanted to share the moments that I have had enjoying the Wii and perhaps to show you a different appreciation of something so simple.
Starting with the music, I mean the games that you're playing along with the notes, mostly with a guitar and just trying hard not to screw up the song. There's a line of games all under the banner of Guitar Hero and others named Rock Band as well. There are many versions of both games with a large variety of music that compares to you just sitting around and playing some old LP's. When you use to mix your CD's, records, anything really you could get your hands on and make some silly mix tape for a girl, thinking this will move the world for her. That time when you came home from work or school, popped in a tape in your car or walkman and just existed, enjoying the melodies of what is to come. I know, because of my age I will be speaking to a certain generation but most can understand and just rock out to plain, old, good, music. These games have created this for me and remind me of a time lost, placed in a small box, forgotten.
So now, you have the guitar strapped on, place that game in the machine and let it roll. The game boots up and suddenly, you're in this other world. Now, like most games, some take you immediately to that environment that they are trying to convey to you and others, leave you standing at the bus stop with no ride. You choose a band name, a look and feel for yourself and dive into this revisiting of thoughts. I use to love those afternoons with a childhood friend of mine, we would, always on Sunday, turn up the radio to listen to Casey Kasem's top 40. It was splendid. A tremendous variety of music and we would hear something, record it right away on our cheap tape decks, usually badly with his voice being part of the track and cutting it off a little too early so you don't have to hear his over powering grandeur again. Everything from Journey, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Hendrix, Steve Miller Band, Blondie, The Ramones, Wings, Elton John, Phil Collins, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Ted Nugent, Ray Charles, Bill Holiday, The Alarm, Queen, Bowie, Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, and of course the endless saga of Hotel California blaring always in our ears were just some of the tunes playing over the airways and in our tape decks at the time. Truly bad hair styles but now thinking about it, a great and blessed experience to be part of this music at that time. You eyes open again; you have this guitar still on and had a little nap time while we were telling you a story. I string along with the tunes this game presents to me, it brings me to that moment and others. I could sit here and recant all the times or those times when I really thought I was a rock DJ or something, but not really going to torture you that way unless there's drinks involved. I just listen to the music, hear it like the first time and remember it but most importantly, feel the passion behind the stories they are singing about. There's a pain, happiness, truth, beauty, honesty in its notes and lyrics. Even the craziest rips by Ted Nugent or the screaming, screeching verbiage by Bob Dylan were at times, left you're wondering, is someone strangling him while he sings? Neil Young telling us of his endless searches and loves that I do adore. The Stones telling us what to do and what to drink, where and when to do it and with how many girls. AC/DC just truly trying to blow your mind and speakers so that your mother will throw your stereo so far out the window, it grows wings! Paul McCartney singing along with his wife with blissful melodies of a place he speaks of. Elton John, tugging

1. Revolutionary motion controls. Though there are a few "traditional" games, most of the Wii's games feature controls based on movement (e.g. swinging your arms to throw a punch, or pointing to select an option). These controls are AWESOME! They work pretty well, even before the fancier things like Wii Motion Plus and the Wii Balance Board came out (each sold separately). With motion on your side, this system is also probably the most calorie-burning game system on the market today. The motion controls make games a MUCH more immersive experience; like you're playing them instead of watching them! VERY revolutionary indeed!
2. Easy to set up. I won't lie: this is the first game system I managed to set up without any parental assistance. Just make sure that you find the right TV channel that will show the Wii screens (for me, it's Video 2, using the input button; but it probably varies). Once you get the hang of it, it will only take about ten to fifteen minutes to set up before play, if you choose to take it down. In other words, the fun starts almost instantly!
3. FUN games! Many great games have come out for the Wii since it's release (e.g. "Sonic Unleashed," "Super Smash Brothers Brawl," "Sonic and the Black Knight," "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games," etcetera; each sold separately). In fact, "Wii Sports" alone is a great game, and it comes WITH the Wii! Buying a Wii is basically like buying a mine that holds gold; you're going to get a LOT of rich experiences out of it!
4. Gamecube game compatibility! All of the great games you can play on Gamecube can be played ON the Wii! There are some GREAT Gamecube games to boot! So, if you buy a Wii, you're basically buying TWO great systems at once! How's that for a deal?
5. Most inexpensive of the newest systems. The price has even come down since I bought it! At the price it is now, it is MORE than remarkable!
6. Decent graphic capabilities. I've heard many people complain that the graphics for the Wii games aren't any good; those people obviously haven't played games like "Sonic Unleashed." You buy that game and tell me: do the graphics stink? NO way! True, they may not be the VERY best graphics on the market, but that's basically just splitting hairs; the graphics still hold their own, even when compared to the other latest systems.
7. Fun features! The Wii is capable of interacting with the internet to allow multiplayer capabilities through online resources, weather updates, shopping, and more! It can also do stuff with pictures, but I've never explored it; this thing has thousands of features, but, alas, most of it is useless if you don't have Wi-Fi. Still, if you're internet savvy, this is one of the BEST systems to have! My favorite non-internet feature is creating the Miis (basically little computer people for some games); it's AWESOME to create an in-game version of yourself, and your family! That feature alone will keep you entertained for at least a couple of hours!
Well, that's all I can think of on the great features; and, trust me, there are a LOT of good features with this system! Still, it has it's weaknesses; and, while I don't think they're deal-breakers, each buyer should be aware of the system's limitations:
1. Questionable durability. Though I have never tested the durability for myself, the Wii just doesn't feel the strongest; while it may be able to take a hit or two (I don't know; I've never dared to try), I wouldn't throw it on a hard surface, drop it, or hit it in any way shape or form. Because I don't trust its durability, I never use the stand it comes with (which can make the system stand vertically) prefering, instead, to lay it down horizontally. At least it won't fall apart the second you touch it, and it doesn't overheat easily if you follow the directions on ventilation (trust me, if it did, mine would be dead by now); but, again, no hard hits.
2. LOTS of parts. Unlike a PS3 or an XBOX 360, which probably only come with a remote control and a few wires, the Wii has many parts: a sensor bar (for reading the motions), wireless remote controls (which can easily get lost if kept away from the system itself), and a couple of wires (for audio and visuals) all come with the package. It's easy to forget items like the sensor bar; and, guess what, without the sensor bar you can't play as the Wii loses the ability to sense motion. Just something to make note of.
3. The Wii remote runs on AA batteries, because it is wireless. This means you'll throw more money down the tubes kee

The cable quality is high, the reliability high, and the price very low. What more could you want?
