When I first went shopping for a second controller for my GameCube, I admit I was looking for one that matched my Platinum Edition controller. I couldn't find one that wasn't a Wavebird (nothing wrong with a Wavebird - the wireless controller - that I know of, but I was just too cheap to spend the extra $10). So I bought a black controller to match my TV. Now that I think about it, buying a different controller was a smart thing to do. Why didn't I plan on that in the first place? I spent part of the winter battling a cold or the flu at various times, and I can't underestimate the importance of controlling the spread of viruses and bacteria. Having different-colored controllers makes it easier to remember which controller I've been using in between nose-blowing sessions. When a housemate or friend wants to play GameCube as I lay suffering on the other couch, I am able to croak out the words "use the black one today. Trust me."I also have a phobia against third-party hardware - so it's good of Nintendo (not to mention profitable for Nintendo) to sell spare parts. The most important things about a controller are: does it fit comfortably in your hand, and are the buttons easy to find and use? The only thing I don't like is the placement of the Z button. The cord is plenty long, and the buttons are responsive enough. I also like that they're color-coded.

The Game Boy Player can be a great piece of hardware. There are a lot of games out there that, while designed for the small screen, require a lot of time and attention to detail, which can become a pain when playing on such a tiny screen. The Game Boy Player solves that problem, letting you convert any game from the countless library of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles to a bigger screen. The graphics obviously aren't going to improve (they usually look the same as on the GBA), but the bigger image saves the trouble of straining your eyes to make sure you didn't miss anything.Of course, this is the only real advantage in having a Game Boy Player. It's really not an essential piece of equipment in the gaming experience; if you have no real interest in playing Game Boy games on a bigger screen, the money would be better used on something else.

Ok, where can I start? Oh...yes...THIS SYSTEM ROCKS. Sure, Sony lures you in with the extra crappy parts such as a DVD player that barely works, but this system is BUILT TO PLAY GAMES AND PLAY GAMES ONLY. Also, the graphics are great, and the controller fits like a glove. There are so many cool exclusives too, like:The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III, VIewtiful Joe, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Party 4, Mario Party 5, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition, Tales of Symphonia, 1080 Avalanche, Custom Robo. And games that are coming out:Metroid Prime II: Echoes, The Legend of Zelda(working title), Pikmin II, and Viewtiful Joe II.There are 4 controller ports...unlike the PS2...(C'mon, the SEGA DREAMCAST HAS FOUR; WHY DO YOU, PS2, HAVE TO HAVE 2??)There is a good wireless controller for the GC..the Wavebird...the ones for the other major systems SUCK.GC is NOT filled with kiddie games...Metal Gear Solid? Metroid Prime? Resident Evil? C'MON!GC has cool features you can buy to tie it in with the Game Boy Advance...the Gameboy Player, and GBA-NGC cables. It is a good idea, though, it costs so much to play games like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and Zelda-Four Swords Adventures 4-Player...Nintendo got greedy then. The Gamecube is also very small and portable. The XBox is massive!I just wish Nintendo supports online play...So, there you have it. GameCube rocks. Have $99? GET ONE! You'll be happy you did.

I have almost all the systems! From NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, Saturn, PS, PS2, Xbox and now a GameCube.... Anyways, I am a BIG fan of the xbox! The xbox is great; however, the nintendo gamecube does have more games than the xbox. The GameCube is also (in my opinion) better than the xbox. Graphics, Sound and all that compares to the xbox BUT the games you can get for the GameCube are WAY, WAY better than the games you can get for the xbox. I am not putting down the xbox down!! Believe me I love games like Halo and Fable BUT those games seem to be easier and quicker (maybe not so much of Fable) than games like Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echos, Resident Evil 0,1,2,3 and RE4!!!Anyways, I love the fact that Nintendo offers the old Zelda's, Resident Evils, ect on the Gamecube! That is a great idea and I hope they do the same for Metroid games. You can also get a a GBA or a Nintendo DS and connect to your GameCube and play GBA/Nintendo DS games. So, in essence you can play NES, SNES, N64 games on the GameCube. All in all, Microsoft has alot to prove before ANYONE can say that the xbox is better than the GameCube!!!! Sorry xbox fans, but whats true is true!!

I bought my daughter a gamboy advance SP for her birthday in November. She just turned 5, and is really getting into video games. She has been purchasing a few games here and there for it. Then she also asked and asked for a Gamecube, because her cousin had one and she loved the Super Smash Bro. game. So my mother bought her it for Christmas! She loves having it, but only had a few games. I was planning on purchasing the cable to connect the gameboy and Gamecube together, and then came across this item. It looks perfect. And it nearly is! It was VERY simple to connect, and now all she has to do is insert the startup disk, and put one of her gameboy advance games in the slot provided. She was tickled to death. All the games she loves on Gameboy, she can now play them on the Gamecube also. It's amazing. All the gameboy games, now can serve 2 purposes! Although the quality of the picture is slightly less on the tv than on the gameboy screen, it is still worth every penny! I guess it can't be perfect. It's a must have for anyone owning a Gamecube and Gameboy!!!!!!!!

All of us Gamecube lovers can well admit that it may not have all the beef of a chunky american system like the microsoft XBOX but lets face it, why do I need to spend extra money on a system simply because it plays DVD's and stores music, Don't we all have a DVD player and a computer for that which do it much more efficiently and at higher quality. When shopping for a console you should look for what is important like maybe... games. And the gamcube carries the biggest hitters like Zelda the windwaker, Metroid prime, Custom Robo, Smash Bros. (by the way Gary Schulze in your review you stated that Metroid prime and Zelda were release games... they weren't they came out about 2 years after the release. If your going to bash something do a little research.). Don't misunderstand I love the ps2 and the Xbox has it's perks but the best game Microsoft has to offer is Halo but now you can get Halo on the Computer and it looks a heck of a lot better and FPS's are a lot better to play W/ a mouse. Trust me if you buy a gamecube you'll see that the overall quality and inovation Nintendo puts into all it's products. The graphics are smooth and Frame rates are high and since developers are finally learning to develop acording to the systems highest potential the graphics are looking even beter (Check out the E3 shots of Zelda and Resident Evil 4).The controller is comfortable and the compact size of the system makes it easy to transport. If your in the Console Market and what something purely for the gameplay get yourself a cube and while your at it get yourself a ps2 also, they will give you exactly what you want good games and less extra crap.

I've always loved Nintendo controllers. Until recently, that was because I could only afford 1 system. Now that I own all 3 "next-gen" systems, I can safely say that the GameCube controller fits best in my hands. All of the face buttons are in easy reach, but that isn't the case for the "Z" button, inconveniently located on the top right of the controller. Seemingly squished between the R and the face, this button is not used by all games, but is a pain to try to hit without straining your hands. The right "C" stick is another odd addition. Featuring heavily in games like "Luigi's Mansion", this control pales in comparison to the analog sticks of the XBox or PS2, or even with the directional pad of days gone by.That being said, this is a first-party controller, and your movements on it are translated precisely to the game you are playing. Since many games only require use of the left joystick and the face buttons, the above concerns will not reduce your enjoyment of the controller for all games.I'm happy with my controller, I just hope that the next Nintendo's controller has all buttons within easy reach.

Ever used an X-Box controller? Well, just think of the Gamecube controller as the exact opposite. The X-Box controller is enormous and has a very clunky feel, and it's difficult to use if you have small hands. The Gamecube controller, however, is very easy to use, and it molds into your hands no matter how big your hands are. The thumbsticks are both quite comfortable, making it a controller that you can use with minimal strain. So what's wrong with the Gamecube controller? It is, simply, too simple (get it?). With only 6 buttons (not including Start), the Gamecube controller just isn't suited for games, such as sports and action games, that need a lot more than 6 buttons. While playing "True Crime: Streets of LA", I found myself having to press multiple buttons at the same time and sometimes I wished I had three hands because it was quite the inconvenience! And with the awkward button layout, it's hard to press two or more buttons at once, unless your thumbs bend in very unusual ways. Also, I've noticed the durability of this controller is lacking, the L and R buttons start acting funny after a while. Lastly, the cord is just too freakin' short!Too bad it's the only controller Nintendo offers besides the pricey wireless Wavebird, because this controller at times just won't do. At least Microsoft released a smaller X-Box controller... Nintendo should release a BETTER gamecube controller.

I've always wanted to play Game Boy Advance games, but have shyed away from buying the handhelds themselves. While I had fun with my Game Boy and Game Boy Color, I eventually began to neglect them and only bring them out on long car journeys (that's not very often for me). The Game Boy Advance is great, but I have pretty big hands so it hurt to play for a long time (and the GBA also has the whole screen-being-too-dark problem, I didn't wanna pay to have it modified). The GBA SP corrects the screen problem, but makes my cramped hands problem even worse. The Game Boy Player fixes both of these problems. Now I can enjoy titles such as Sonic Advance and Warioland on the big screen. The software does a great job of stretching the low-resolution GBA image without making it look too bad (it's obviously gonna look a little blocky). Also included are some smoothing/blurring options (to simulate the low refresh rate of the actual GBA's screen). Now for the flaws. First up is the standard GameCube controller. Playing GBA games on this is not fun. The D-pad is too small and the analog stick - forget it, that's more frustrating than it is fun. In Japan Nintendo and a 3rd party company named HORI released a SNES-style pad for your GameCube that's great for the Game Boy Player (and also for Viewtiful Joe). I can't tell you where to get this in this review since Amazon don't sell it but search around some Hong Kong websites and you'll be able to buy one. You can also control the action with a real Game Boy Advance or GBA SP linked to the GameCube, but that defeats the point somewhat.Another gripe I have is with the boot disc. You need to load this up every time you wanna play a GBA game, if you ask me Nintendo should have had the software inside the actual GB Player and made some way to switch between GBP and GameCube mode with a switch or something. The software on the disc isn't so great either - there is no way at all to remove the annoying "Z Button - Options" message at the top-right of the screen.Still, the overall package is hardly bad - in fact, it's great to finally play all these games on a big screen without cramped hands and neck strain. It's a pity that the software on the boot disc is good rather than great.

I purchased this accesory more out of curiosity than anything else; the price was not bad so I took the chance and I do not regret it.The GameBoy Player (GB Player) accesory is connected to the High Speed port below your GameCube console (GC), it has two tiny screws to tighten it to your console and avoid accidental drops. An ejector button is also provided, to allow for proper removal. A Startup disc is included and required to activate the GB Player. All features of a GameBoy Advance are included in the GameBoy Player (The Accessory Slot, the Game Pak Slot and the External Extension Connection). You can play the thousands of Game Boy, GameBoy Color, and Advance games available as with your handheld Advance console. You can also link other GB Advance units to the GB Player for multiplayer games using the External Extension Connector available, and you can normally use the e-Reader accesory as well. When you turn on the GameCube with the GB Player and a cartridge game inserted on the GB Player (not the GB Advance), you'll see the game's startup screen as you will normally do with your GB Advance console, this time the display is transferred to the larger TV screen and surrounded by a graphical frame. The games simply look wonderful, sharp and colorful. All the details that you simply miss in the limited GB Advance display screen are shown here on the big TV screen. I was expecting blocky, low-resolution graphics, but I was really surprised at the sharpness these Advance games have, even on larger screens. You can play with a GameCube controller or use the GB Advance as a controller (provided that you have a GC/GB Advance cable). The Z button on the GC controller opens up the GB Player special options.Special Options include:- Frame Settings: There are 20 different and colorful frames to choose from- Screen Size - You can have Full Size screen or Normal Viewing (a larger frame borders your game)- Controller - This option tells the GB Player your button location preferences to take advantage of the additional buttons that the GC controller provides- Screen Filter - This option adjusts image quality- Timer - You can set a time reminder with a sound and a message on screen ("Time's up kiddo, dinner's ready")- Change Game Pak - You are allowed to "hot-swap" your game paks, meaning that you do not need to turn off the power to switch games. This was a great addition to my gaming "kingdom", I definitely recommend it.

I bought the game boy player almost a year ago and I love it. Having this with my gamecube is like having two game systems in one. I love being able to play all of my favorite games on a big screen. I also think that the price is very good considering what it allows you to do. It's like having a whole other system with the fraction of the cost. I love it, and I highly recomend it for those who want to play their favorite games on a big screen.

My family bought one of the "mondo" block cards that supposedly allowed over 1000 blocks of memory to be stored for much cheaper than this 251 block version. Well, the only trouble was it kept saying it was corrupt, that it needed to be formatted, and that all of my data would be erased. Finally we gave in and went and bought one of these cards, and we have had no trouble at all.I guess it really is true that you get what you pay for!

I was slightly disappointed in the gameboy player but overall its a nice device to have in the home to experience the gameboy games on a larger screen (your TV!).PROSThis is a great device that lets you play most (over 1,000)Gameboy games on your television set. You get to use your Gamecube controller and have the option of using the gameboy advance as a controller. Another cool thing is you can use the e-reader with it and most accessories.CONS1. This is a big one for me: The games resolution on a TV is a bit worse than on the gameboy itself but this problem is unavoidable. You will lose a bit of clarity when stretching a screen to the size of a TV set. A picture size setting is offered which allows you to increase or decrease the size of the picture but it does not do much to help. Another setting which you can adjust is to make the game look softer or sharper, this doesn't work on most games either. What a waste, why bother including these adjustments Nintendo if they are totally useless?2. You must use a bootable cd (included) to play the games. You pop in a cd in the gamecube, insert the gameboy game and turn on the gamecube. I find it rather lame to have to use a cd to make it work. But its no big deal, I simply found it rather annoying.3. When you "eject" the gameboy game it literally flies out of the cartridge slot. Do not place the gamecube\player on high shelves! Another thing I noticed is that Nintendo recommends you leave the game plugged in and not to remove it. Apparently the contacts get dirty easily (like the old 8-bit NES) and thats the reason they mention it in the manual. (Yes, they actually tell you to leave a game plugged in so the contacts inside do not get dirty). What the hell? 4. The gamecube controller I found to be worse to use than the actual gameboy advance\sp. But this is only a matter of opinion and taste. Some people might find the gamecube controller easier to use. I thought so too but it turned out to be awkward instead.Annoying little things and minor gripes when it comes down to it. Is it worth it, yes only if you really want to play the games on a television and see the full scale graphics of the games (remember its not perfect though!)I recommend it but I must say it does come with some minor disappointments.

Yeah, I'm hear to bash gamecube again. There were no hate ones on this page, and its my duty to fix that.Super Smash, Metroid Prime, Windwaker, Rogue Squadron......These games are all great fun to bring up in our reviews, so I'll do the same. If I recall, those were the release games. How many years ago was that? Four? Well, what have they been doing in the mean time? I'll give that the system came out big. Real big. But then it just sat there. There haven't been any big titles since the openers!!! What are the game guys doing??? I don't know, so don't ask me.I'll sit over here, safe and secure with xbox, thanks, rather then buying gamecube and risk no big games coming out.Oh and buy the way(...)I like to write that because you gamecubers get so mad. Why get mad? If it wasn't true, you wouldn't bother wasting breath saying its not. Have fun playing Scoobie Doo and Bob the Builder, I'll be over here playing the next big release. Hmmm, looks to be Halo 2...oh and look over there!!! Doom 3!!! Wow, sux to you guys. No, I don't know how to beat that level of Mario Sunshine. Ask your cute little water-jet pack thing.Well, bye. Hope I made you angry by slapping you in the face with the truth.(...).AGAIN. (...)

When the Xbox, PS2, and GC were first on the market in 2001, (PS2 came out in 2000, but wasn't in supply until the other systems came out) there was much arguement about which one had the best controller. PS2 usually will win, but I have to disagree. I find the GC controller to be the easiest to use. This controller is identical to the one you would receive when you purchase a Jet Black Game Cube. Please note that the Game Cube only comes with one controller, so if you're planning on playing two player games you'll need to get another one. Yes there are cheaper ones on the market, most notably ones from Intec, Mad Catz, Pelican etc, HOWEVER if you read the fine print in your warranty, using any 3rd party product such as those, will automatically void your warranty with the system. For the few extra dollars you spend it will be well worth your purchase. This controller is also very rugged I've had my Game Cube since 2001, and my controller has been stepped on, spilled on, etc, and it's in perfect working order. Save yourself the trouble, and get one of these.

The Game boy player is probably the best accessory that Nintendo has ever created. The Game boy player makes it possible to play almost ALL the games ever created for the Game boy, from the newest games to the oldest. The Game boy player also has the rumble feature with some of the newer game boy advance games. You can also adjust the clarity in this game by pressing Z on your gamecube controller and playing with the options, which is another wonderful feature of this product. The GB player assortment of features from changing the outer frame color to changing the size of screen being from normal ( which makes the frame look like the game boy SP and makes the screen look smaller) to full (this is a feature that the Super Nintendo's version of game boy player did not have, and was much needed). To top it off the installation of the GB player is quite easy you simply remove High Speed port on the bottom of the Gamecube console place the Gameboy player under it tighten the already attached screws with a coin, And Walla your done, all you do now is place in the CD it brings where you'd normally put your games and then put your game in into the new bottom slot. This is the perfect gift of those die heart game boy players, and at 50 dollars it's cheaper then the GB SP. Now I can play all my game boy games with perfect lighting and the sharpest image possible, but I still keep my gameboy SP for whenever I have to take mass transportation, it certainly makes the commute that much faster!

I myself, prefer my Playstation 2. Sure, it has a crap load of lousy games, but for every 10 lousy games, there are 2 great ones. Do the XBOX and GameCube systems have better graphics? Yes. Graphics arn't everything people. My preferences in games are gameplay, enjoyment, and replayability. In that order. I'm also a hard core role playing gamer. You can see why I prefer the PS2 now right? It's the king of the RPG world. Now that that is out of the way, let me tell you that I am not putting the GameCube down. No, just the opposite. It's a great gaming system. It has a few great games (Zelda for example.) It's graphics are up to par with the XBOX in my opinion, even better maybe. I've played about 20 XBOX games, 2 of which I enjoyed (Halo, Munchs' Oddysee.) I've played about 14 GameCube games, 10 of which I enjoyed. What does that tell you? What I'm getting at here is that the GameCube is great as a second console. But if you're an RPGer like me, you're better off with a PS2.The Zelda bundle, man. I already owned a GameCube, and I went to trade it in along with a few DVDs for the GameCube with the Zelda bundle. The clerk thought I was a nut job. Let me tell you, it was worth it. A lot of great memories. Possibly the best video game ever made (not counting rpgs), hell, definately the best N64 game ever made, The Ocorina of Time is included with this 4 game bundle! It's just as great as I remember it to be. Trust me, it's worth the hundred bucks.(goes off to play Final Fantasy X-2 for the Playstation 2)

Finally Nintendo does it right and comes out with a descent sized memory card. The 51 is simply too small even for some single games. If you have a lot of games (like me) you'll need at least one of these if not more. The 251 holds a goodly number of games in addition to being highly reliable. I've even had a couple close encounters with mild static electricity making contact with the card and it hasn't adversely effected the card's abilities (though I strongly advise avoiding static shocks by touching a light switch before picking up anything electronic). One thing you all should keep in mind, despite this card's durability is to create regular back-up files. I recommend doing this on a separate card, making sure to label them so you don't get confused. This way if you do manage to fry your 251 card you wont kick yourself in the head for losing all of your hard fought data. As a back-up I have an I-tech card which holds more than enough to back-up two of the 251 cards. I do recommend, however, that you only use the I-tech as a back-up since some sports games aren't as compatible with this non-Nintendo made technology.Happy gaming.

Nintendo's Game Boy Player is simply a most brilliant idea that's also well executed, and if you play a lot of Game Boy Advance games, I highly recommend this affordable add-on. The price is right, and the effects are nothing short of truly amazing. The other reviewers have said much about the Game Boy Player. In a nutshell, it attaches to the bottom of your GameCube, and allows you to play virtually all Game Boy Advance games as well as older Game Boy Color and Game Boy games via the GameCube on TV. Well you won't get progressive-scan HD screens or 5.1 surround sound native GameCube games offer, but the Game Boy Advance games I've tried simply look great. Surrounded by a frame of your choice, the games fill up the TV screen, offering graphic details that you surely have missed while playing on the Game Boy Advance or GBA SP's small screen. Also the games look brighter and more colorful on a TV monitor, making them much more enjoable. And, of course, for gamers with big hands like myself, using the GameCube controller is an added plus.Any cons? Nothing significant. My only minor gripe is snapping on and off the Game Boy Player takes a bit of an effort, so if you plan to travel with the least amount of weight and volume, this might be a minor annoyance. But really, this doesn't even apply to 99% of us. Simply leaving the Game Boy Player on at all times is fine.If there's one accessory you want from Santa, be sure to make the Game Boy Player your #1 wish.
