Soy nuevo en este mundo de las reflex, sin embargo, la experiencia inicial es muy buena, poco a poco conozco todos los potenciales y aún puedo tomar fotos en modo automático con excelentes resultados. Muchas características superan mis expectivas como la posibilidad de tomar timelapse con una hora programada o hacer múltiples tomas de un mismo escenario con hasta 3 valores diferentes de exposición, en fin, totalmente satisfecho.

In short, this is a great camera. takes brilliant pics at all types of light conditions. images are so crisp even in low light and without tripods. for longer duration, use tripod. different pre-set modes make it so easy to use even for beginners like me - who may not be able to handle all the settings to begin with.Cons : cannot force flash in all pre-set modes.

This is a great starter camera for any photographer who wants to move from a point and shoot to a DSLR. I love this camera, the quality is great, and I have been nothing but pleased with it so far.

Update 11/22/11: Nikon returned the camera once again, this time admitting that the firmware required an update to correct the error whereby some memory cards were not recognized. So, if you do purchase this camera and have this problem, don't accept the "your memory card is defective" story. I now have a functioning camera, but can't rate it higher due to the poor technical service.Update 11/11/11: Nikon returned the camera, stating that the camera met specs and that my SanDisk memory card was defective. Of course I had checked the memory card in another D5100 before returning my camera, and it was ok. Nevertheless, I bought a new San Disk card, tried the camera, and experienced the same issue. I called Nikon and returned the camera for warranty service once again, at their expense this time.I look forward to enjoying my new, highly rated D5100 - once Nikon returns it to me after warranty repair. It was defective out of the box. It would take a photo or two, then fail to recognize the memory card. I would have to turn the camera off, remove and replace the memory card, and then be good for a few more photos before it failed again. Nikon has the camera and seems to be in no hurry to return it. Also note that they do not pay for the return shipping, a pretty poor warranty policy.

This was purchased to replace a Nikon D40x and what a replacement it is. HD video is unreal, pictures are unreal and so easy to use. 100% happy with this purchase.

Listen, this is an expensive piece of equipment. So before you buy it, understand that there is a fair probability that your equipment will be defective. For example this camera is known to come with a sensor defect. With most companies this is not a problem, because if a product is defective, companies that care about their reputation and brand name will stand by their products and cover any factory defects under their warranty. Nikon claims to offer a 1-yr. warranty. But if your equipment is defective, they'll ask you to send it in (at your expense) to be checked. Once they have it, they'll tell you the problem is not covered under warranty and charge you a small fee to fix it and send it back. Once you approve this charge, they'll write back to tell you they re-inspected the problem and it will cost almost as much as the camera to fix.It is a nice camera, but can you afford to be the one stuck with the 1 out 100 cameras that have the sensor problem?

A professional photographer quick-review: I tried different lenses on the D5100 camera: the kit lens (low quality), some old 35mm Nikon prime lenses and the high quality Wide Angle 10.5mm. Results: the old prime lenses gave the sharpest results as usual but none of the Nikon lenses I tested came even close to matching the ultra high resolution I got from the Canon Rebel T3i with the included kit lens. Other than the softness, this is a great camera for low light situations.I don't know why this camera is softer than the Canon but I am not the only one experiencing this issue, you may compare both cameras using the "Comparometer" online which clearly confirms my findings. I am guessing the T3i Rebel has a better sensor than the Nikon and that is a real pity because I would have preferred to use Nikon. The good news is that the D5100 performs far better than the Canon in low light conditions.By the way, the 1080p video test I shot was unusable, the D5100 does not have anything close to the kind of optical stabilization required for video production and I am not going to carry a tripod when I can use my Canon HV20 camcorder instead without any trouble, it just would not be practical.Despite all these shortcomings, I still would recommend the D5100 for telephoto and low-light still photos (such as wedding photography).Update: After further research it turns out that all Nikon DLSRs in this price range are famous for producing soft images which require sharpening in post. Indeed, I looked at my D60 photos and they are also soft. However, there are rumors that Nikon has plans to switch to a different type of sensor to keep up with the competition. So, maybe before 2012 Nikon will bring good news for all Nikon fans, that is, if the world does not end in 2012.

Right out of the box using the same lens (18 - 200 VR)this camera takes better pictures than my previous Nikon D80. I bought the body only. I am a family photographer and the D5100 is the ideal Nikon camera for me. Simple to use, lightweight, video if necessary, and well priced. I considered the D7000, but in reality, I would never use the added feature set and have instead bought a 35mm Prime lens and an extra battery and am still $300 ahead! Photos thus far have been great, without the frustration of obvious exposure issues I experienced with the D80.

After just TWO MONTHS of use, my D5100 will only take black photos. Doesn't matter what settings you use - M, P, A, S, Auto - they are all black. Even the LCD shows a black screen during LiveView. Like others here on Amazon who have rated with 1 star, I apparently have a defective shutter. Really surprising to me, considering how much a baby my electronics, especially this camera. I am positive this is a problem with quality control, given how many comments you can find about it here and on DPreview. Now I have to decide if I want to get it repaired and forever worry that it will fail me in the future, or just start over with another model.If not for this defect, I would likely rate the camera 4 stars.

I was looking forward to receiving this camera. When it arrived, there was no sealon the camera package, and the components inside were obviously opened before.You can make your own assessment, but to me this is very wrong.I sent it back and hope I get a new one back.Later:I contacted returns, and they promptly accepted the return.I will report back.3 months later:I am very satisfied with this camera. It requires quite a lot of study to use it properly. The photos are beautiful.Recommended.

Easy to learn, love the features it can perform. The lens' are just as simple. Don't have to be a pro photographer to use this camera, just go out and shoot. Light weight easy to tote. Quality pictures without spending thousands of dollars.

I know im coming from a limited point of view, but this camera is amazing. I never knew I could take such beautiful pictures. My wife complained about the expense until she saw the pictures of our kids on vacation that I was able to take that never would have looked even acceptable on our old point and shoot.I cant speak to how this camera compares to others in its class, but IMO, its in a class of its own!

I have moved up from Point and Shoot and this is my first SLR. Other reviews given here made me choose this over Canon T3i, and I am very happy with my purchase. This camera was delivered a day before my vacation trip, so I had no time to go over the manuals. I shot all my photos in Auto mode, and they have come really great.Other reviews here are by people who are much more experienced than I am at photography and shed a lot more light on this camera than I can.Overall a great buy.

Firstly, Amazon's delivery was very fast. I had the camera 4 days after I ordered it with standard shipping. Great job.The Camera itself is a great step up from what is now my secondary camera, the D60. Focus is nice and crisp, and even on the Sports setting, the camera is lightning fast. There is a lot to this camera, so read the manual first ! ! I also purchased a battery grip for it, and you will find that does make up for the camera's compact size (the only drawback I have encountered so far).Great job Nikon.

After have used it for a few month, I love it. Just report one problem -- depends how do you hold the camera, you may or may not have this issue.The way I grip it, my palm often touches the multifunction selector unintentionally. And the selected focus point (I prefer the center one which is the only one with the cross type) just moves to the edge one -- so annoying!Anyone knows how to solve this? Thanks.

I was very happy about my Nikon D5100. The size is prefect for someone like me who has a pair of small hands. The graphic is very beautiful and the flip monitor is a big plus for video taking. However, when I try to take continuous shots, the continuous release mode doesn't work at all. I tried many different ways, but nothing helped. I am wondering if anyone has the same problem with this camera. Otherwise I really like this camera.update:Problem solved

Love the camera with one exception. If you are an amateur photographer like me and have been using Nikon for years (I bought my first Nikon, a Nikkormat, in 1965), you probably have several lenses. Some of mine are not very old, I bought them after getting my first digital body. Be aware that only the latest generation Nikkor lenses will be able to auto-focus with this camera. Your older lenses will still work, but you have to manually focus when you use them. I was aware of this when I bought the camera, but though my more recent lenses would work, they don't.

I am not going to lie. I've dropped this Camera 3 times since I bought it Nov. 25 2011. 3 times! ! ! First two drops were off a table... all drops were on carpet... but I just picked it up and tried to run off with it to take a quick picture and it was still attached to my computer... and slipped right out of my hand and SLAMMED on the floor. My heart stopped.It's perfectly fine. No problems. Checked the lens, checked every setting, checked the screen, buttons, not even a scratch.This is a good semi professional camera to add to your gift list for that person who has butter fingers like myself. <3Oh... did I forget to mention it takes outstanding photos. I mean... the lens has a lot to do with how amazing some photos turn out over others, but with just the standard kit lens and some of the basic knowledge I am still learning... my photos come out amazing!I highly recommend this camera for semi professionals... heck...even professionals <3

I am still experimenting and getting used to this new camera, but thus far have found it exceptional both in value and ease of use. I highly recommend this camera for both beginners and experienced users.

I've had a D700 since it came out and have 10's of thousands of fabulous pictures from it. Simply the best camera I've ever had....but the thing is a horse! Strap the 70-200mm f2.8 on it and I'm popping Advil that evening because of the weight. This of course it the price you pay for the highest quality pictures you can get.Because of the weight issue I've been thinking about getting a compact. I've tried several Olympus (ZX-1, PEN 1, PEN 2) and found them shall we say lacking in clarity (they just can't stand up to D700 quality and seem like a waist of time). I wanted to like the P7000, but all the reviews say its a POS. So, I started looking at the weight of some of these new DSLRs and thought that may be the option for me. The DP Review rated it quite well, so I figured I would give it a shot.Well I have to say that I'm extremely impressed. I love the weight and the simple controls. The articulating screen is sweet and extremely useful. After I put some decent glass on the thing (the kit lens is a POS!), I have got some fabulous pictures with the thing up to ISO 3200. The color output is really amazing. Very contrasty and requires little post-processing (I only shoot RAW, so I couldn't tell you about the in camera jpegs). I think this is from the EXPEED-2 processor and bods very well for a D800. There is a fair amount of noise reduction, that really softens things too much, but it's easy to take out with capture NX 2. Overall, I would say that the picture quality is 80 percent of the D700 up to ISO 3200. This is more than I ever expected for a $800 camera (versus $2500 for a D700).Bravo Nikon! This is quite a camera and thanks for saving my back!

Being in Graphic Design, I was in the market for a DSLR, and was reading up on the specs of the D5100. I had only had previous experience with a Canon D60 and proudly owned and used a Nikon FM2 Film Camera for a decent amount of years. (Hence why I went with Nikon again, for the lenses) Since I was looking for a camera for on-the-go shots and night shots, this little baby seemed to come into my life just at the right moment.It is an unbelievably light weight camera, which makes it nice for lugging it around. The body IS Plastic, so it is definitely not ment for you rough and tumble types. The rotating flip screen is a serious plus, for getting those wierd angled shots you would otherwise need to dig a hole to get. All of the features, such as portrait, landscape, etc like point and shoot cameras are featured, although I just use manual settings to custom taylor to my needs. ISO can get up to 6400, Shutter Speed can get up to 1/4000. The white balance is very nicely programed, pictures come out as if it were my own eyes. (*personal settings apply) Auto focus can be turned on in constance and is pretty responsive when moving the camera around.Never mind the Video capability. (1080p HD?! COOL!) Even little on-unit touch ups like upping digital lighting, or adding a "Miniature effect" to the photos, it has been quite joyful to even do slight color correcting on the camera in playback.I have only had this camera for a few days, keep in mind. And I did not buy it from Amazon (even though they have the same great price i paid for it.) This camera is a bargain for what you get. I couldn't be any happier, especially with the price. What can I say- I am already in love.
