Did a lot of research between Canon and Nikon, I am sure they are both good DSLR, but I am very happy with this one.

i am switching.. canons gave me a headache.. somehow i didnt ever get to like th feel of any canon camera i owned.. this feels great, shoots good and is very true in its picture reproduction.. does not over or underdo the colors and saturation.. i hope i can afford a 300 mm lens soon..

I have been using this camera for the past 6 months, which I bought from amazon. I had owned Nikon D40 before this camera. This has taken very clear pictures during day and night. I have taken some fantastic & good clarity videos at 1080p. This has a few excellent options such as miniature, and HDR. I do recommend this camera, especially if you are learning to take photos.

This camera is powerful and yet still user friendly. The different settings and capabilities are pretty standard, but the user interface is solid and makes for a great photographical experience. Still exploring as of now, and will add details as I develop them.

This is replacing my analog camera. There is a small learning curve with switching systems, and so far my lenses and filters are interchangeable.

We have switched to these upgraded cameras for our department crime scene techs. It is the most affordable camera for the capabilities it has and for the uses we need it for. If Nikon is the brand of choice the D5100 is our recommendation.

I'm not a professional photographer so take this for what it's worth. This camera is loaded with many useful features and takes wonderful pictures. It is far superior to any "palm-in-the-hand" camera. The fold-out monitor that can be rotated in virtually any direction is great and well worth a few extra bucks. It will take some time for me to become totality familiar with the camera due to its many features and capabilities, but I'm taking it slowly and having fun in my spare time.

I am an amateur photography with aspirations to do more professional work some day. This camera is perfect for me. It makes any picture look amazing, and is pretty simple to try out all of the custom settings. I am more than pleased with it and have suggested it to several of my friends who have also purchased it and been thrilled with it. High quality images.

This is the best camera I ever got. Delivers great pictures and helped me to improve my photo skills. Really amazing, I really recommend Nikon DSLRs.

Had a digital Nikon before this for 6 years and it took splendid pictures. I upgraded for even better shots and the ability to take HD video of my child. A great camera.

I upgraded from my Nikon D200 and even though so far I am liking the D5100, it's taking a little while to get used to. The first difference is the size and weight. The 5100 seems so small and light. Not necessarily bad, just different. I can definitely say that the Auto setting works really well, and most of the exposure problems I had with the D200 have gone away. A lot of my photos at work are just quick group shots or events and it works great. I do like some of the Effects settings as well, although I think they should be used with caution because sometimes they go a little far with sharpening and contrast and you end of fixing them in Photoshop.Most of my lenses for my D200 either do not work or have limited function with the 5100. For a majority of my portrait work, I use the Nikon 50mm and although it works with the 5100, there is no auto focus. But, I must say, the focus bar on the 5100 is awesome. I thought I would end up buying a new 50mm, but I think I can do without. I also have the Rokinon 85mm and it doesn't work at all, I'll have to upgrade.I've only had it two weeks, but I think I'm going to like it. Just going to take a little of time to figure it all out!

for the price, the quality is excellent and options available on this body are superb.. i absolutely love this body and the nifty fifty, if i can ever get quick at manually focusing. the included kit lens is pretty good too, it's my all around shooter and works well for most scenarios, but save some money for a zoom lens, otherwise you'll be sad to see that 55mm isnt all that much.

I moved from a 40DX to this D5100. It is really fast for a smaller camera and I'm using only 2 lens with it; a prime 50mm f 1.8 & the 18mm-200mm zoom lens. I'm so happy with this camera, it will be with me for a long while.

Great camera, fast, responsive, fantastic image quality even in low light. Great camera for a newbie who plans on expanding into manual options. Swivel screen is great too.Video mode works great and it starts almost instantly.I ordered a "used" model but they actually sent me a refurbished model so that was nice. No scuffs or anything, looks brand new

This is a great camera and comes with a great manual so it's very easy to use. The photo quality is awesome and it's a very versatile camera. This was my first DSLR and was a great buy!

The product is everything I expected, it's amazing, the quality of this camera is very high. The delivery time was according to estimated time. I recommend this product without doubt.

I bought this camera over a year ago or so. Just now I noticed a red hot pixel in every image it takes. It's very tiny and you can clone it out in Photoshop, but that is disappointing. I feel like buying a Canon again next purchase. Too many problems with the Nikon for the $700 I paid.

Great camera. Takes beautiful photos. i bought it because I wanted a good camera and video camera in one. The only thing that is making this rating a 4 instead of a 5 is that when I'm shooting video I need to refocus(by pressing button down half way) if a person is moving towards or away from the camera. When I press the button it makes a noise that is audible during playback. annoying! Really is a great camera.

I wanted a good SLR camera for my Vegas trip. Did some research and found D5100 to be a good DSLR. Thought I would return it after the trip, if I dont like it, but after my trip I was so hooked up with the camera that I ended up upgraded the lens to 18-105 instead of the default lens.Awesome camera for people who like to take great pictures occasionally, after all pictures are memories forever.

Working very well. I may need to get an additional lens to get more out of this experience.Otherwise it is good.

I am definitely a beginning photographer and bought this as my beginning DSLR, and for that purpose it is perfect! I took great pictures on vacation this past month and it has not failed me yet. As I learn more I hope to get more out of the camera but so far I am very impressed by the pictures I have so far.

My wife and I shoot a local short track asphalt racing. We had purchased a Nikon D7000 and needed another camera but couldn't quite swing the cost of another. After researching we found that the D5100 shared a lot of the same features as the D7000 at a considerable savings. While the D7000 does have a few advantages of the D5100, for the money we feel like we made a good decision.
