My second desktop is in another room, so a Ethernet cord would not have worked. This is great if you want to go wireless. You just put the CD in and put the card in and voila.

Purchased this for use on a 5-year old desktop running Windows XP. I thought that the card adapter would maybe work better and be more secure than a usb dongle wifi adapter.2 hours with Netgear tech support (who were great) failed to get the card working. Seems to be some kind of software conflict with XP SP3.Bought a D-link USB adapter and was up and running in minutes.I just wouldn't bother with this older product/software that seems not to have been upgraded.(Also, see seller feedback section for return hassles and lack of communication.)

Due to the nature of my work, I have used several types of these 54Mbps wireless cards. The only 2 Wireless Homenetworking I recommend to others is either D-Link or Netgear.I personally am using a 54Mbps wireless WG111 USB adaptor on my PC plus 2 others in the house.In addition I use the Neatgear 54Mbps Wireless Card (WG511) for my older Dell laptop. I have used these adaptors for over a year and have not had to replace them, or have had any problem with their peformance.I have installed hundreds of these for customers. It does come with software for the drivers, AND comes with a NETGEAR PROGRAM that overides windows. I never use the program personally. I just use the CD for the drivers, after insert the adaptor. It also comes with the software updates for vista.I found that as long as you have a Wireless Netgear Modem, it never seems to have any problems with 128bit encryption or 64bit (which is what I mostly use)The biggest reason for any Netgear adaptor 128 or 64 bit is 1st) If you use install and use the NETGEAR PROGRAM, then the best way to avoid internet drop off, is to enter you 64 or 128 bit encryption password on the first page of the progam IN THE MANUAL SLOT and not the 2 slots for above! Trust me I know.2nd) If you plug the adaptor in, and then insert the CD just for the drivers (when prompted) WITHOUT using Netgears program, then you have to set internet options to set LAN and check "automatic" and leave proxy settings alone. Then right click on the little wireless pic in your tray, and select "status" then "properties". From there at the top box scroll down to TCP/IP and click properties and make sure "automatic is checked" The click close and click the middle tab. If there is more than 1 network in your area or in that box, remove them all, except yours. Then make sure to check the box "let windows configure my wireless settings for me" and on the last tab check the box "automatically connect to this network when in range" After that click okay, and close. It may start to try and connect right then, or you can right click on the little wireless computer in tray and select "view wireless networks" and you will see your there, click connect and it will prompt you for you password, twice and thats it. You don't have to type in the password any more. Everytime you turn on your computer, it will automatically detect settings and connect you to your wireless internet network.It sounds like a lot, but it really is simple and will prevent internet drop off tremendously!I setup networks for a living and years ago, I used to pull my hair out sometimes, until I finally found out what works the best, regardless of number of networks, users or 64 and 128 encyrption. If the router is setup correctly and you install Neatgear wireless usb or card, you will be very happy. I have moved and used the same USB and CARD for my laptop with 3 dirrent networks, and all I did was set it up with the new password and it is working as of now.Hope this helps

I followed the instructions which said to load the CD that accompanied the NetGear Wireless adapter. During installation there was an option to use either Netgear or Windows for configuring. I chose Windows.Once I plugged in the Wireless device, it found my wireless network (as well as my neighbors'). So naturally I selected my network and then was prompted to enter my WEP security code which I did.After entering the WEP, I was connected.Easy-breezy.Setup was as easy as I had hoped it would be.

Anyone wanting to connect your Panasonic hdtv to the internet should go with this product. No need to spend an extra $60 for the Panasonic adapter. This works perfectly, and I have been watching Netflix with no issues.

This wireless laptop PC Card works out of the box with Ubuntu 10 Linux. I had to reboot the system a second time after inserting the card for the system to recognize the card and load the proper drivers. The bells and whistles of the Windows software are missing but card performs well for wireless connectivity.

I bought a Netgear WNDR3500L for the wireless N so I could use the faster speed to transfer files to and from a NAS box. I bought this adaptor to make use of the wireless N.The big headache with this one is the software. Downloading the latest firmware from Netgear in May 2010 it simply failed to load on Windows XP 32bit. After hours of frustration, I found a tip on a forum that suggested using a previous version of the firmware, and now it works just fine.I think this adapter is great, simply let down by duff software. I'm upgrading to Windows 7 in the next few weeks, and from what I've read, I have my doubts as to whether this adapter will work. (Update February 2012: unit works just fine with Win 7 driver available from Netgear website)As for speed, I was getting about 58Mbps, rather disappointing, but when I switched from a CRT to a flat panel monitor, I'm now getting a consistent 117Mbps (30 feet from router, through two walls).If you have a bit of tech savvy, give it a go, otherwise look elsewhere.

I'm not a Geek and dont want to spend alot of timetrying to get a $20 card to work with the NetgearDGN2000 wireless router, so I'm throwing this inthe garbage.The installation went well and it worked when Ihad the router right next to it. When I moved therouter about 40 feet away (and 2 walls) it wouldnt work.It shows green (connected) red (disconnected) every10 secs. and I cannot access the internet.I have 2 other wireless adapters and they both workin that configuration. One is a realtek usb withthe antenna. I just upgraded to HD Satelite recievers from Dish Network. I have one in the basement, 2 floors down from my wireless area network DSL router. Dish was sold out at thier web-site of the Netgear unit they specify, so I gave this one a try. Plugged it in, entered my WEP code and instantly connected. Now I can download movies and TV shows to my DVR from the internet. Works great.

I'm completely happy with this refurbished product. The price I paid was excellent and the seller delivered it promptly. The only set back was the installation. It took me some time to install it on my Windows 7 desktop. After much surfing, I found a site which explained the installation and driver to use.

I'm using this card to add WiFi capability to an old Gateway Solo laptop. I previously tried a similar Trendnet card from CompUSA/Tigerdirect several times but they all kept crashing the machine. This unit installed like a charm with the supplied CD and has been working without incident since the end of October 2010. I'm using it with XP Wireless Zero configuration and not the supplied utility. I've used several Netgear wireless products, and I have never had problems with them. Good product.

This item has longer range and better reception than other N wireless devices. It was easy to install. The other device every day would show only 3 differant wireless devices and only see 2 of mine. With this one I pick up 15 differant wireless signals and see all 5 computers. I have internet in my workshed to download differnat woodworking plans.

After messing around for hours looking for the latest drivers to install an old wireless card on a Windows 7 system. Plug it in, let Windows find it, install it, and let you do something productive. Works with XP, XP64, Vista, and Win 7.I'm not using it on a laptop or fidgeting with taking it out and plugging it in. I'm buying another one for a second system.

I had no problem at all installing this device. I like the fact it has a small docking station with a USB cable that allows it to sit on top of my PC where I can see it and has better direct lines of sight with the router, plus I can see the activity light. I have no complaints about the software. I used the WPS feature (aka Push-N-Connect) to connect to a WPS-enabled router. A great feature - everything done for you. I also used the manual setup to connect to an outside network, and it seems pretty straightforward to me. Way better and way easier than my old wireless b/g device.

This is exactly what I have been looking for. Needed this to go with my Netgear wireless N dual band router. One of my desktops does not have an built in wireless, so I needed this. This works perfectly, extremely fast, super easy installation, fast setup. Currently I don't have any cons for this. Also, for Amazons part, I chose free shipping, the one that takes long time, but I got mine the 3rd day! it arrived like 4 days earlier. just amazed by the adapter and amazon.

I just bought this with the WNDR 3700 router from Netgear and it is as though they are made for each other. No dropped connections, exceptional speed. I sit on the 2nd floor and my router is on the first floor about 100 ft away in a straight line and I can still use the full N speeds. Again this is the new adapter - the one with the light on the top. Make sure you are buying this one, the earlier one has a lot of negative reviews.On ease of installation (Windows XP), I just plugged in the CD, followed the steps and it worked on the first try. IMPORTANT - The product ships with a male-female USB cable. If you dont want to connect the adapter to your laptop directly and move around a lot, i.e. if you are worried about bumping the adapter and breaking something, use the cable. I started using it and find it invaluable.Buy this adapter only if you are purchasing the WNDR3700 or equivalent / better from Netgear or others. If you are not getting a dual band router, you can spend less by purchasing a single band adapter.

I purchased this adapter based on tracing out reviews for the recommended Panasonic adapter for my new Panasonic G series 50" plasma. It was more than $20 less than the "P" version plus smaller. It was a good buy. I just plugged it in & it worked great.

The card was easy to install and seemed to work great, but it only worked about 3 months. After that it conked out, and when we called Netgear for support they said it was a refursbished card and they couldn't help me. So I was impressed while it worked, but the reliability leaves something to be desired.

When I received this product and my son went to install it, it turned out, unfortunately, to be defective. This happens occasionally to every company, online or not. I was devastated because I needed it badly for my job. But the wonderful part is the rapid response of the company! I am very grateful to them. This is a company of integrity. I would use them again.

Be sure you get v2.0. It has a small button. It does not show on the Amazon photo. If you get the correct adapter with current software, it works perfectly, especially with a newer Netgear router.

Received the card - a little later than expected - Amazon was great - an actual person corresponded with me - and they refunded my shipping because it was late.I am going to use Amazon more often - they have great customer service. The card works just fine - had some initial trouble installing it - because it was an older Notebook - the CD drive was not reading on the notebook - Copied the installation to another PC and tried using a flash drive to transfer the installation software to the older Notebook - the older notebook only had USB 1.x, and would not accept the flash drive, finally emailed the installation software a file at a time to the older notebook - saved the files and ran the installation software from the older notebook's hard drive - it installed just fine - so after a great deal of time and trouble caused by my older equipment - the card and installation software worked very easily, even on an outdated notebook.

I bought this card for Ubuntu Linux and I had to find the drivers since it was not plug and playable on Linux. The drivers that I found were rejected by Linux and I was able to use the WPN511 card that I bought for another laptop which worked fine on Linux...I thought I would swap this card for the Windows XP machine that I had. I installed the software and it picked up the card. I was able to connect on to web but when I tried to connect with the browser it would not connect even though I was connected to the network. I removed this card and put the WPN511 back in and everything works fine...I bought this card and it was cheap and probably this is the reason this card does not work. I bought the v2 of this card which is made in China and has a different chipset than the v1 (the better card)... I will be returning this card tomorrow and getting another WPN511 card...It is worth spending more on a wireless card and get better results...

After several disappointing experiences with WiFi adapters (e.g., see my review for the Sabrent PCI-G802), I tried going with a PCMCIA-based version. This one worked perfectly and with very little effort. One of the most satisfying products I've ever bought from Amazon.

It is great it works good.It works on LINUX too not only on windows XPIf the CD of drivers didn't work you can check for the drivers on line.Now, the range is typical .... I think it is 5db. TRUE 5db not a fake!Good luck with it.In general I appreciate Netgear products for they are cheap, good and work on LINUX FEDORA 9, 10, 11, 12 ... Don't know about earlier versions of Fedora and copatibility with this card or the PCMCIA Netgear cards ..My best wishes for you Broadband and specially for all LINUX users

I wanted a wireless laptop card to use in a very old computer using Windows ME as the operating system. After some research I discovered that not many cards claimed to work with ME. I ended up ordering the Netgear WG511NA Wireless G Pc Card. The delivery time was prompt, as always, from Amazon. I installed the included software, plugged the card in and was instantly on the internet. No problem with installation and no problem with the card. I highly recommend this card to those who have an older operating system.

The WNDA3100 would timeout for 4 seconds approximately every 25 seconds plus other random 5-6 second timeouts. Was using latest drivers. Tried with 2 WNDR3700s in two different locations (one location had no other 2.4ghz channels in use.) Worked with Netgear on issue.The problem was instantly fixed when I obtained and installed a WNDA3100v2, which has the same model number, although it uses a different chipset and has a light and button which are shown on the packaging. Because it has the same model number, you will need to buy it locally so you can tell the difference.Returned the WNDA3100 (version1, 1 star) and kept the WNDA3100v2 (works, much better range, 5 stars)

I used this adapter for about 6 months with Vista 32 bit OS and it worked flawlessly giving me 300 Mbps speed. When I decided to upgrade to Windows 7, it did not work out so well. The netgear drivers do not support windows 7 (even now when its released), which sucks. I was able to find drivers for it but they kept dropping the connection every few days. So, if you are not on Windows 7, this thing works fine.

This is the second or third of these units I have bought over the last ten or so years. They go in easy, connect easy and are plenty fast.I'd give them four starts, except I have to replace them every two or three years.

I got this for a Windows XP laptop connecting to an Apple Time Capsule base station and returned it the next day. It sounds great on paper, but it just doesn't work very well. Bottom line: You'll be disappointed if you buy it for better range or faster connection speeds.1) The adapter has lousy range. Wireless-N (802.11n) networks have way better range and signal strength than 802.11g networks. But you'd never know it with this Netgear adapter. Using the RangeMax WNDA3100 adapter on an 802.11n Time Capsule network (with no G or B clients allowed to slow it down) resulted in slower speeds and weaker signals than when I was using the laptop's old internal 802.11a/b/g wireless adapter with a crappy 802.11g wireless router. This was true whether I set the wireless network to 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.2) Even when the signal is excellent, this adapter is slow. I did speed test comparisons between my Mac laptop (with built in 802.11n support) and the Windows laptop with the Netgear RangeMax. I placed the laptops right by the wireless basestation so signal strength was as high as it could get. The Mac got speeds that were 1/3 faster than the Windows machine. This speed difference disappeared when I disabled the Netgear adapter and tested using the laptop's old G adapter.3) The software is slow and difficult to use. Despite saving my wireless network's settings, the adapter failed to connect to it automatically. Plus, it would take forever to connect manually, and would often fail. Finally, I disabled the Netgear software and enabled automatic configuration through Windows. This solved the problem. My advice is to avoid this product. But if you get it, use the Automatic Wireless Network Connections in Windows, not the Netgear software.

This is a great wireless G PC card. Very easy to use. Easy to set up for the first time even if you don't have the CD for drivers. Just go to their site and download the drivers.

Bought item in 2006 when Wireless Cards and Linux were shaky at best. This card outperformed the built-in on my Windows machine at the time (a Thinkpad T23) and was always picked up by whatever distribution of Linux I was using at the time. Made installing my distribution of choice much easier.

I returned this after one day of use. Even when paired with the RangeMax WNDR3300 Dual Band Wireless-N Router, connections consistently dropped. Wireless N performance was terrible--no speed increase was to be found when it actually connected. As others have mentioned, range is also quite terrible (lost 40% of signal through two wood doors, 20 feet away on the same level as the router).Netgear again has produced a piece of junk with this one.

The GUI that is used to connect to the WNDA3100 is abysmal. Once you've installed the software, you'd think it would be as simple as scanning for networks, connecting to a network, and saving the settings as a profile. WRONG. Clicking an "Apply" button after selecting your pre-configured profile pops up a window that says "Validate Settings"... followed by no connection to the network, even though it can be seen with 94% signal strength. The software looks to be done in Adobe Flash, complete with fade-in and fade-out effects, so everything takes a long time to start or complete. In fact, trying to run the latest software package (v1.3 as of June 2, 2008) resulted in a BSOD on my laptop. That might have been due to low memory, but it shouldn't require that much power to connect to it in the first place.At this point, I may sell the WNDA3100, take a slight loss and buy a different wireless adapter instead.

I purchased this card about 3 years ago to work with Linux - the 511T has an atheros chipset (at least my version does, and Netgear has a habit of changing chipsets on the same model across different versions) which allows it to be handled by the madwifi driver. It just plain works, even with Network Manager.I've handled my fairly roughly, including bending the tip that houses the LEDs, and it still works just fine. It doesn't seem to get hot, doesn't drop signals, and works with WPA in my own network. It should work with WPA2 as well but I haven't tried it.

This product works only sporadically. It is frustrating how often it stops working even although the wireless adapter is only 20 feet away from the router. I don't know if this if a problem in the adapter and or software but safe yourself headaches and buy something else.
