Well, it's a great device when it's working, but it "freezes up" at random intervals. The little blue light just sticks in rapid-flash mode and my connection drops. To get the connection back I have to remove the device from the USB cradle for a second and replace it. Very, very frustrating. I have read some reports that plugging the device directly into the computer might side-step this problem... I'm trying that and hope it works since I through the box away already (yeah, duh). Even if it does work better this way, I'm still ticked because the wired cradle was the reason I chose this adapter above others!I am running Windows 7 (64bit) with the latest drivers available on NegGear's site.

Serial number is in orange micro print on the usb plug. No contrast to be able to read it. Need magnifying glass to read. The SN is also on the box it came with. Netgear customer service mislead me and said the USB adapter had a sticker on it for the SN. Poor product knowledge. When I did not have a sticker, ("DAVE" and "LUKE" from India) said inaccurately that it must be refurbished and that I needed to sign up for a paid support contract. Very predatory. Shame on Netgear for misleading customers. The adapter plugged in and Windows 7 found the device and installed the driver quickly. No drops in service yet. I had troubles with the Netgear site finding the adapter and getting updated drivers. Relying on Microsoft's driver update which says the device drivers are up to date.

I purchased the NETGEAR RangeMax WNDA3100 Dual Band Wireless-N Adapter after my daughter had previously done so a few months prior. I have a PC with Windows 7, 64 bit. The DVD software that came with the product installed smoothly. However the unit only achieved internet access after several minutes attempting to connect with the network and only for the first night. The second day, although the adapter detected my home network, it would not connect despite repeated efforts to input the password, restart the computer and reset the router.After checking online, I discovered this is a common problem and the suggested solution was to uninstall the supplied installation software, then utilize the earlier version (version 1.3). Sure enough, after installing the older version of the installation software, the unit worked perfectly. The signal is rock solid with excellent reception. Should you wish to try this fix, I'm supplying the link:[...]Aside from that hassle, I have no quibbles with the unit. It's an excellent piece of technology.

I purchased this with my new desktop about a year and a half ago. It worked great for about a year. Since then, the Internet has become choppy and I've had to uninstall and reinstall the software multiple times to get it to connect to the Internet. At first, we thought it was the Internet, but all of our other wireless devices worked fine. This is the only one that has been an issue. We are shopping around for another wireless adapter that will be more reliable. Don't expect to get more than a year's worth of use out of this product.

I bought this adapter in particular because my router is also Netgear, and also because 300N would be good for me since I'm into gaming. I'm a floor above and to the other side of the house from the router and it works perfectly. Would recommend to a friend!

(1) The hardware is good. BUT Netgear technical support is very very poor.(2) Technical support personnel, most of them not knowledgable and impatient. Only the first person is polite and knowing what to do. Other so called experts playing blame-game, not centering on the real solutions.

No instructions...they are online but how are you going to access them if the reason you are buying this item is to have access to wifi. But luckily i have a smart phone which brings me to problem #2.No cd included. No problem IF you want to pay manufacturer $90 for help. So back it went. I still want to turn an old computer into wifi but it won't be with this product.

Several months ago I bought a Netgear wireless router. It has worked great -- a big improvement over previous one, especially improved stability (no power cycling).So, recently I needed to buy a new wireless LAN adapter. I tried another brand and was very frustrated. It seemed both the software and hardware were bad.Then, I bought the Netgear WNA3100. So far, it has worked beautifully. Very easy installation with the CD, and a good strong and stable signal.Time will tell if it is reliable over the long haul. But, so far, I remain a Netgear fan.

After struggling with another adapter with slow reception, I ordered the Netgear adapter WNA3100. Opened the package, plug in, and setup done in less than 10 minutes. Has doubled the reception speed with no "dropped" signals. Happy, Happy, Happy. Plus Amazon delivered in 3 days. As Ina says, "How simple is that".

Purchased Netgear router and this adapter to work together. Plugged into the docking station, the adapter would lose connection within 10 seconds and refuse to reconnect. Unplug, plug back in - same story. When connected directly to the pc, works better, however, ping performance is terrible - loses packets, and jitter is very high. What that means is if you try connecting via VPN to your office, your remote session will frequently freeze and disconnect. Plugged in my old linksys G usb adapter, works like a charm - no dropped packets, jitter is very low. Going back to the store.

We attached this to my wife's PC and were able to eliminate a long cord to our router. We were also able to eliminate her printer since I have a wireless one in my office. I'd not considered that such a product even existed until I went looking for a solution to the fraying cord to the router. And the price made it a very economical solution.

I installed this product with no problem but then the reception was dicey. Finally I noticed that on the Netgear opening screen there is a place at the bottom where it shows a channel number. I looked on my wireless router and it was set to default channel "auto". I changed that to channel 4 to match the adaptor channel number and everything has been great.

Better option than reloading complete windows 7 program and losing files ect,the DELL wireless quit working ,spent hours on the phone with ,Century lINK,dIRECT TV,DELL,MCAFFE,they send updates sometimes that screw you up,no one could figuire it out. This solved the problem! Working great,usb hookup was simple!

First impression - Netgear N 300 Adapter (WNA3100) hooked to a Dell desktop running XP:1. Downloaded ver. 2 of the software from Netgear. Ignored ver. 1.2 in the box2. Set router for unsecured wifi3. Went to control panel/network connections. Right clicked and disabled local wired connection.4. Installed Netgear ver. 2 software. No option to just install drivers.5. Plugged adapter into USB ver. 1.1 port on Dell desktop6. Waited - waited7. Selected my open network8. Tested wifi connectivity. All OK.9. Reset router security10. Reconnected to Internet with password11. Rebooted destop to test for BSOD. Reboot OK12. Ran speedtest.net13. Speedtest.net results SUCKED with desktop in the same room as router.14. Retested speedtest.net using usb ver. 2.0 and in a far room. Results still SUCKED with results at around 8 down and 6 up via a Cox Cable subscription. On wired connection to my Linky I can always get 15 to 20 down. My iPad, connecting to the same router with the same security setting, runs twice as fast as the Netgear wireless adapter.15. When rebooting the Netgear software always connects to my neighbors' open wifi rather than my own secured network. I don't know how to force Netgear genie software to always default to my own network on reboots.Now I will give this adapter a longer term reliability test.

This adapter works great...for the most part. There are times where it decides to disconnect and I have to restart my computer to get it up and running again. Completely annoying. Will be upgrading here shortly.Edited 2/14/13 to add: I just bought a new custom PC with Windows 7, a brilliant machine, and the Netgear *still* likes to pass out on me about once a week. I have it plugged into the USB port on the front of the tower; there are two ports. To get it to "wake back up" I unplug it and plug it back into the other port.Stupid.

I buy many things refurbished (computers, toners, chargers, ect). This product did not come with install CD. You had to go online to download software on computer. Well, my computer needed internet connection in order to get online (hence ordering the product). So i got on another computer and decided to download it and put it on cd then load on the computer. but you needed the serial number, which was blacked out.Can not use it! Was very upset. Buy it new! Ihave bougt this product new before, with no problems.

The software did not work for this in windows 7. I am not going to list the steps I had to go through to get it working but it was a hack job! I will never buy this brand again.

Worked perfectly. Just plugged it into my DISH unit and bang I was done. The receiver took care of everything else. I just selected my wireless network, entered my password and I was done. Cheaper than buying it from DISH, and faster delivery!

I don't think I needed this purchase. I was trying to trouble shoot my laptop on my own and I thought the original PC card was bad, turns out that wasn't the problem. In any case, delivery was prompt and efficient and I got the product as ordered. Can't ask for much more than that.

This is a good product, Fixes the 5ghz speed over the 2.4 ghz...... Absolutely fixed my speed problems--- better streaming movies..... 5 ghz speed is definately better than the 2.4--- It makes the difference....two thumbs up

I could not get this device to work. So ensued a truly amazing journey. After registering the product I called the help line. The person in whatever foreign land I spoke to first start out by asking me several time for my serial number. Then he asks me to hold. While on "hold" I hear him shouting for several minutes in a foreign language to someone else. Then he starts to sing!!! Finally he comes back on and asks for my serial number again. Then he turns on the radio and begins playing music in my ear! Before I can object he disconnects me!I call back attempting to get a supervisor, only to be placed on hold multiple times by other people,and sent back to the main menu again. Finally reaching a supervisor who apologizes without a shred of sincerity I am ,after a long wait, transferred to yet another "engineer." Then I am told I must buy a "service contract" because I bought the device over 90 days ago (I did not need it until now). The wonderful service contract is only $70 for 6 months of their worthless telephone support. $70 for a device that cost $40.I will never buy another piece of their junk. (I had another one of a different type which was just as useless.)Buyer beware: Do NOT buy this. Unless you want to torture yourself!As you can imagine there is no way to contact "Customer Service" to lodge a complaint.If I could give -5 stars I would.

I'm currently in collge, and I'm used to having a laptop with a great wireless card. I online game a lot. So far I have had NO problems with this device. Installed very quickly. Picked up on all of the connections at my college, and I haven't dropped out an online game or anything.

I currently have 8 computers on a network, and this adapter works great. If you follow the install instructions, there are no problems what so ever. I like to smallness of it, and yet the great range I get. You will not go wrong with this.

It has nice look and small. I purchased this to give my desktop freedom. Which is next to wireless router.Web surfing and downloading from internet is fine. But when I hook it up with full 300Mbps N speed and do copying files in local network between another computer and my desktop, it often hangs during copying job and my desktop re-establishes wifi connection again after hanging for a minute later. Not for serious users.

Bought this awhile ago, and I've always had issues with it. The packaged software interferes with windows 7's native wireless connection system, but you can't just install drivers only. After a while it always seems to disconnect from the internet. Then I have to unplug and plug it back in to work. do not buy this at all.

It works, what else matters? It's connected fine to two different routers/networks in our home. Connection speed hasn't hit 300mbps, but that's more to do with signal strength/location vs any deficiency in the device. Connections are fast and stable. Simple to setup and use.

I have had this wireless adapter for about 1 year now. It sucks. I am about to go buy a different one from a different company. The problem is that this adapter unexpectedly freezes up and becomes unresponsive. The only way to make it work again is to reboot the computer. Nothing else solves it. It did not do this for the first couple of months that I owned it. Then it started to do it occasionally. It has gotten to the point now that I am on the internet for 20 or 30 minutes and it happens. I have searched all over the internet for a fix. There are numerous forum posts on help websites about this very issue. None of the proposed fixes worked for me. I called Netgear the other day and they told me that they could tell me how to fix it but that I would have to pay for premium customer support to be told what the fix is. This product is a cheap piece of crap. Do not buy it. I better go now before my internet disconnects.
