This is what tech support told me after an 8 hour ordeal trying to get this adapter to work. I decided I wanted to use my desktop PC as a multimedia center and picked one of these up. I am no novice and I spent hours trying to problem solve on my own, from trying different versions of the drivers to attempting to install in safe mode to removing any programs that I thought might interfere with the adapter. Nothing worked. I gave in and called their tech support, which to their credit is free for 90 days and operates 24/7, and after over an hour on the phone with multiple people, I was told the adapter would not work on my Windows 7 64-bit system because I have "too much memory." When asked why that would interfere with the adapter, I was simply told "It's an incompatibility issue." It really makes no sense to me, but what do I know?! So finally I'm told I need to return this adapter and buy the WNCE3001. I have spent my entire day on this so I'm ready to do whatever is necessary to get it working, so I jump in the car and head back to the store. I come home with the WNCE3001 and installation took me about 2 minutes, which was very welcome at this point. I was excited, until I tried to open my browser and it took 2 minutes to fully load Amazon.com. I did a speed test and was shocked to see 0.19mb/s download speed. Really?! My laptop and MacBook, both sitting right beside the adapter got nearly 8mb/s on the same network. I called tech support again and they told me that it installed and is working properly and my router is the culprit. It was recommended that I call the manufacturer of my router, which I've had for over a year and never had a single issue with, ever. I am done with Netgear products and I hope they really reconsider either how they market their products and/or work on getting some better tech support that doesn't just refer you to buy another product or call another manufacturer to deal with the problem they should be helping you resolve. Please Netgear, if it's true that this adapter will not work on systems with more than 4GB memory, you need to state in your description. Also, consider removing the "online gaming" recommendation because I'm fairly certain most people buying this adapter for gaming will have more than 4GB of RAM. If I could give it negative stars for my wasted time, gas and money, I would.

having been in the computer business professionally for nearly a decade, and a hobbyist for twice that long, I've become very jaded about product performance claims. My rule of thumb is to take whatever is claimed on the box, and divide by two. But once in a while, even I am pleasantly surprised when a product does exactly what is promised. This dual band wireless N wifi adapter is one such product. I made this purchase so that I could stream 1080p movies, with DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 audio from a NAS 12ft away from my WDTV Live, which is directly wired into my Netgear WNDR3700. What this means is that I needed a card capable of ~25Mbps sustained throughput, with burst throughput of somewhere around 60Mbps to eliminate stutterI started this endeavor with the purchase of the D-Link DWA556, thinking mistakenly that it was a dual band card capable of 5Ghz. It was not. Nevertheless, I gave it a chance, as it's theoretically possible to reach ~60Mbps with wireless N, even on the 2.4Ghz. But alas, no matter how I tweaked my channels, I couldn't get anything more then 30Mbps, max out of that card and my router. Then I gave up on the DLink, and instead bought this card. If I could've gotten anything close to 60Mbps out of this thing, I would've been very happy. Man was I surprised. I have gotten a sustained throughput of about 112Mbps, with a max of 150Mbps, and a minimum never dropping below 90Mbps. I tested by copying a 16GB file from my NAS to a laptop hooked directly into the router via gigabit ethernet. The entire copy took 17 minutes and 14 seconds, for an average of 126Mbps. The second test was to copy the same file from the NAS to my Macbook pro, which is also on the 5Ghz network. That process averaged about 48Mbps. Not great, but not bad at all.Needless to say, all my streaming problems disappeared. No more stuttering on the busy action sequences in Avatar. No more stuttering on the initial car chase sequence in Quantum of Solace either. All in all, I am very satisfied with this purchase. The installation was completely painless. Plugged the stick into my NAS, running windows 7, and the the system found drivers for it online, and installed everything without any intervention. You do not need the software CD or drivers from Netgear's website at all, if you have a modern OS like Windows 7. However be warned that Windows 7, out of the box, does not come with drivers for this card. In other words, you cannot rely on Windows 7 to recognize this wireles card during it's initial install on a clean system. For that, you will need the CD. But after the card is functional, you can simply grab the latest drivers from windows update. My only complaint, if there is to be one, is that the range for the 5Ghz radio is not that great. As I mentioned earlier, my NAS is 12 ft away, and without direct line of sight of the router. And yet, the signal on the 5Hz radio, according to the Netgear software was already at 84%. The negotiated link speed was consistently around 270 to 300 Mbps. So performance wasn't a problem. But, when I moved the card to another machine in the master bedroom, which is about 100ft away, separated by 3 walls, the signal strength on the 5Ghz network has dropped to 23%. I didn't bother to test the throughput in this case. Most likely, streaming HD is out of the question, though general web browsing is most likely unaffected. To be fair though, this could just be the inherent limitation of the 5Ghz network, as higher frequency transmissions do not refract well, and the signal strength is known to drop off rather dramatically as distance increases, particularly when obstacles are present (like walls). This card may in fact perform on par with the rest of the dual band wireless cards out there, or maybe does even a little better then average. I can't say, as I haven't tried any other cards. But from a practical stand point, if you want to stream HD content with this card, then keep it close to your router. To be fair, reception for the 2.4Ghz network from the master bedroom was no problem at all. Windows 7 shows full signal strength. All in all, I have been very happy with this purchase, and would recommend this card to anyone without reservation.UPDATE:There are actually two versions of this card: The WNDA3100v1, and WNDA3100v2. If you found this page, then you are looking at the v2, which is a great card. The V1, however, is complete crap, and should be avoided at all costs. Lost of dropped connections, and instability with certain routers.

I was pretty happy with this adapter for about a week. It connected with my wireless router on the first try, and I was surfing the Internet with acceptable speed. Now it's about a week later, I can see my router, but either the WNA3100 does not connect, or it connects but it doesn't get the Internet. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, updating the drivers... all the standard fixes. You might think it's my router, but I'm doing just fine with other devices such as my Nexus tablet Google Nexus 7 Tablet (16 GB) that I'm typing this review on. Also, my HP Laptop HP Pavilion DV3-1075US 13.3-Inch Laptop (2.10 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 Dual-Core Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Bronze/Chrome works fine with my router.I've got a Cisco/Linksys router Cisco-Linksys WRT160N Wireless-N Broadband Router, and except for having to unplug it once-in-awhile, I'm pretty pleased with the router's performance. This review is about the WNA3100, though, and right now I'm not very pleased. Next step, Netgear technical support.UPDATE: Well, maybe it is my router... sort of. I called tech support, and the nice lady there (Mimi) said I should change my channel setting on the router to either 1, 6, or 11. When I went to the wireless-router settings (manual) it was set to "Automatic." Evidently, that doesn't please the WNA3100. Now that the router's channel is changed to 6 it seems to be working fine. I'm going to keep my review at two-stars, because my other wireless adapters seem to be working pretty good without a specific setting. Although I think I should state that my tech support help was quick, friendly, in this case solved the problem, and English speaking without a heavy accent. I give Tech Support a five-star rating. I hope this may help others in their network setup with this adapter.

Purchased from DishNetwork for $25. They sell it to connect my Dish receiver to the Internet. Downloaded latest drivers and had issue with getting the adapter to be seen by the install software. Have had this type of issue in the past with a ASUS wireless card. The problem is that my antivirus software blocks the install. If you have Kaspersky Security Suite installed you will need to uninstall it before you can install this card. Not a big deal if you tell the uninstaller to remember the settings. After removing Kaspersky the adapter installed without any issues. Then reinstalled Kaspersky. My wireless connection has been solid, no drops or slowdowns on 5Gz N. This was replacing a Linksys AE1000 which would drop connections every so often, just long enough to be aggravating.I would recommend this adapter.UPDATE 6/7/2012This wireless access point worked without issues from a connection and speed standpoint. However I have had bluescreens at times until installing latest drivers by going into device manager, selecting the Netgear network card and saying to check for updates. Get a later one then what comes with the dongle and later then what is on Netgear site. No bluescreens after this. However there was one additional issue. When rebooting the wireless network would reconnect without issue but if the computer was put into sleep mode it would not re-enable connection. And yes it was configured to not allow windows to turn the power off on the adapter. Had a very similar problem with a Linksys AE2500 USB wireless adapter. Both use the same Broadcom chipset.Have now replaced this with a ASUS USB-N53 USB wireless adapter which makes use of a Ralink chipset. Can go to the Ralink site and get drivers that are only a couple of months old unlike what is available for the Netgear and Linksys adapters which are dated 2011. So far with the N53 I have good wireless speed, reconnects on reboot and reconnects on sleep all without any bluescreens.Maybe your experience with this card will be flawless but with a wife that does not understand how to reconnect and has to have her email fix I had to make a change. I suspect the issue is with the drivers that Broadcom is supplying Netgear and Linksys and of course they both make their own changes to make it theirs and not the hardware.

Coming from a person who uses the internet everyday, This is not even worth $10!I use the internet about 7 Hrs a day for Web surfing, HD streaming, Downloading, and Gaming. If this sounds like you, Don't buy this product, You will be disappointed in the long run. Here are the problems that I was constantly getting everyday when using the Netgear Wireless N 300.Problems (Con's)- Constantly disconnecting everyday. (Avg. 2-3/day)- Bad range, The best that you will get from the N-300 is right next to your devices. Which isn't even a good thing.- My Biggest PROBLEM! Doesn't connect to Mobile hotspots. I installed the updated software properly and when I tried to connect to my Clear Mobile Hotspot, It wouldn't support it.Pro's If anyThe build quality is pretty good, The base was actually bad though, when it was connected to the usb the cord would move the whole base so it wasn't stable. That's about it....RecommendationI bought another wireless receiver from another company called Belkin. BY FAR!! This is the best wireless receiver I have ever used, Period!Internet connection is very stable, It was fast enough for my everyday tasks. It's also great for gaming, rarely I get disconnected using the device. Great for streaming movies in HD and downloading big files.Best of all, It works with my mobile hotspot!Only small problems, disconnections happens like 2-4 time a month for me after using it for 5 months straight. Don't really like the design but that really doesn't matter.Overall, Works like a charm.Check it out, LINK---> http://amzn.to/SSVnVz

Tried the N150 but it wasn't powerful enough, plus the software was too invasive (popped up all the time). So I got the N300, hoping it would be able to pick up the wifi signal through two walls. It took me about a half hour to get the software to detect the adapter (kept sitting at the "Detecting Adapter" screen and never detected it). The trick was to install the standalone driver from the included software CD and also (using my old adapter) to download the updated driver from Netgear (not sure which one was the actual fix). I am using Windows 8 and am not certain if that was the problem. Now the adapter is running like a charm, getting a really strong signal and relatively fast download speeds, much faster than my previous adapter. Also, the adapter looks sleek and has a fairly long USB cable attached to it, which is handy for positioning it on my desk for better reception.I recommend this product because it is only ten or twelve dollars more than the N150, but is much more powerful. The only drawback is it took awhile to get set up, and some users might get frustrated and give up on it (I know I almost did).

I purchased this device with the expectation that I could use it to connect to a Wireless Hot Spot reliably. I installed this device on a Dell desktop with a Pentium 4 processor on Windows XP SP3. I was able to install the software and it did connect to the Hot Spot. After some testing, I found that it would lose the connection to the internet, but would say it was connected to the router. In my case, the router was a Verizon Mi-Fi Hot Spot. Sometimes it would indicate that the adapter had been removed from the USB port (It would not show up in "Device Manager" under Network Adapters). Also the light on the adapter was off at this time. I have a laptop with wi-fi capability, and tested the Hot Spot simultaneously on both machines, and determined that the Hot Spot was not the issue. I gave up after two attempts with the Netgear Phone Support because they were not helping. They were also very hard to understand because of a strong accent. I ultimately returned the adapter and re-installed an old Intellinet 11g Mini USB Adapter. It at least works more reliably, and faster (according to Speakeasy.net/speedtest) than this Netgear Adapter.

I have used my Netgear WNA3100 a few times and it worked well. There are other adapters that work just as well. I wanted to let a friend use the WNA3100 for his laptop. I went to the Netgear support site to download drivers and got a huge shock.Netgear requires you to register, give out personal information to download drivers for hardware you have already paid money for.Registering allows Netgear to sell the email address and make more money.I was smart enough to save the driver disk that came with the adapter, so I found the disk and installed the adapter in spite of Netgear.I will not buy a Netgear product again. Please do not buy Netgear!! There are plenty of competitors that respect your privacy, don't try to make money from support and don't require you to fill out a personal information form to get drivers.

Bought this for $40, thinking it would be a nice, fast, reliable source of internet access for my desktop. For 3 months I have had connectivity issues - and only on this computer with this adapter. I would randomly lose connection at least twice a day, often more. I replaced my motherboard thinking it might have something to do with the USB ports (which it did actually, but that's another story). After the replacement, nothing changed. I reinstalled Windows to see if it was software related. Nope! Still disconnected multiple times a day.I said the hell with it and bought a dual-band Belkin USB adapter. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Such a shame because I've generally had good experience with NETGEAR.Pros:-Looks good-Setup was easy-Comes with a little USB cradleCons:-Disconnects all the time & very unreliableThe one Con outweighs all the Pros tenfold. Such a shame...

I purchased this product and after two months it is no longer recognized by Windows on multiple computers. I either get a USB error or the computer is not aware that a device is plugged in. I called Netgear for support, and they were completely unwilling to troubleshoot the problem. They wanted to know the serial number on the device, but it was not possible to give them this information as the serial number was printed on the metal portion of the USB connector and had already rubbed off from plugging in the device a total of three times. I no longer have the original packaging. They informed that they could not help me since the product was "refurbished" as it did not have a serial number. I told them several times the device was purchased brand new two months ago and not refurbished but they kept on saying it was. Maybe there was a communication issue since their call center was not located in the United States and the person I spoke with has poor English, or maybe they just didn't care to try to find a solution. They never even asked what kind of product it was. At any rate, I won't be purchasing another Netgear product in the future and I recommend you don't either.

Bought this to use as a wireless adapter in my homebuilt PC, which until recently I had connected directly to our router with an ethernet cable. I had to move this PC upstairs and on the other side of the house than our router, so I was a little skeptical that something this small could give a strong connection, but because it was cheap, I thought I'd give it a go.Our router is a WNDR3700-100NAS RangeMax (link @ bottom), which I got about two years ago (sidenote: it's a pretty darn good router). My current connection from the WNA3100 adapter is hovering around ~120/130 megabits/sec, which I am more than happy with. I think (could definitely be wrong) that's close to the threshold that USB 2.0 can handle anyways, so this checks out in my book. Plus, I never see it - its in a USB port behind my tower - a much nicer solution than the external adapter I had been using (Netgear WN311B), which was a piece of crap anyways. I wholeheartedly give this 5/5 stars - a cheap, easy, and effective solution.Other thoughts:The packaging makes a big deal about installing the software from the CD, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to have netgear software managing their wireless connections rather than just having windows manage it. Just pop the adapter in, have windows automatically find a driver, and save yourself the trouble of dealing with 3rd party software.Link to router: [...]

When I first picked out this particular USB adapter there was a lot of bad reviews on it and I wasn't sure if it was the right way to go, but my old Belkin N Wireless was going bad and I have a netgear router and absolutley love it, so I took my chances. The set up was easy, I just followed the directions and the set up was smooth and painless. It works well on Windows 7, I LOVE the docking station for it, it's so much easier to put up on the desk then to plug in and keep in the back of the tower. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new USB wireless adapter. Also I love the little blue light that blinks while surfing the net :). Thank you Netgear for another great product and Amazon for selling it ^_^.

Well, it's a great device when it's working, but it "freezes up" at random intervals. The little blue light just sticks in rapid-flash mode and my connection drops. To get the connection back I have to remove the device from the USB cradle for a second and replace it. Very, very frustrating. I have read some reports that plugging the device directly into the computer might side-step this problem... I'm trying that and hope it works since I through the box away already (yeah, duh). Even if it does work better this way, I'm still ticked because the wired cradle was the reason I chose this adapter above others!I am running Windows 7 (64bit) with the latest drivers available on NegGear's site.

Serial number is in orange micro print on the usb plug. No contrast to be able to read it. Need magnifying glass to read. The SN is also on the box it came with. Netgear customer service mislead me and said the USB adapter had a sticker on it for the SN. Poor product knowledge. When I did not have a sticker, ("DAVE" and "LUKE" from India) said inaccurately that it must be refurbished and that I needed to sign up for a paid support contract. Very predatory. Shame on Netgear for misleading customers. The adapter plugged in and Windows 7 found the device and installed the driver quickly. No drops in service yet. I had troubles with the Netgear site finding the adapter and getting updated drivers. Relying on Microsoft's driver update which says the device drivers are up to date.
