Purchased this for my laptop (it was supposed to match the Rangemax modem). The adapter was not being recognized by my machine, and I contacted customer service. The customer service rep was obviously from India (suprize!). Unfortunately my inquiry was not resolved and I returned the product back. Probably would explore other brands next time around.

I set the router up in about 20 minutes the instructions were pretty clear, wireless works great in a 3 story house. Router is being used to support 2 wireless music centers which now also work great.I think an overall great product.

I have entirely all Netgear equipment in my home network (routers, hubs, wireless router, wireless cards). I try to stick with the same brand for best compatibility. Despite the sometimes common firmware "quirks" of routers restarting, etc. I've stuck it out with Netgear.Despite some Linksys products that may be less "buggy", I've stayed away from majority of Linksys products based purely on physical design. Most Linksys products are like the ugly giant-sized block legos you used to hate getting as a kid instead of "real" Lego.So when I needed a USB wireless adapter, I quickly bought Netgear without hesitation... only to discover Netgear doesn't and will probably not ever have suppport for Windows XP x64 edition. After some googling, I discovered that Ralink RT2500 based wireless adapters have FULL O/S support across the board (Windows 98/2000/XP/2003/64-bit, Linux, Mac OS X).Disappointed at Netgear since their products are NOT cheap especially in their 1st year and even after that it's only OK with a [...].Returned the WG111U and bought the ASUS WL-167g (RT2500 based) instead. The Netgear WG111U is way too FAT for what you think it should be. The ASUS is slim like a 4-pack of stick gum. ASUS just works, looks good and best of all it's more than half the price without any [...].

Don't waste time purchasing this usb adapter! It had problems right from the start when installing the software. Had to call Netgear but guess what? They are outsourced workers from India who don't know what they are talking about! Believe me I had to go to their website to figure things out myself? Can you believe the US outsource jobs to other countries who can't speak english plus are not qualified to answer your questions? I called 3 times so it was not a coincidence? Anyways, keep away from this Wpn111 adapter no more range than a wg111t 108mpbs( Better to purchase the Wg111t because better signal than the Wpn111 RangeMax)

I bought this and the WE102 to, of course, extend the range of my quite happy, WEP-protected wireless network. The computer to be added belonged to my wife. I have a series of addresses in the 192.168.1.x range, but the Netgear stuff demands that the network be disabled, and that at least one computer become a 192.168.0.x in order to put a SECOND WEP on the WGX102. This, as everyone probably knows, is completely dependent on whether Microsoft feels up to it. I went through 100,000 ipconfigs, etc. I spoke literally for hours to a gentleman in India who was nice but whose accent was so difficult for me to understand I wished I hadn't waited on hold for an hour to talk to him.Yesterday it worked for a while, but today, it doesn't any more. I'm not a rank amateur, neither am I a geek with all the time in the world. I'd avoid this like the plague, unlike the other reviewers, none of whom, if I remember correctly, mentioned network security concerns. Long story short--you can't run this setup with a secure network. There is a whole consortium of people out there working to develop standardized home powerline networking. They've been at it for some time. I don't think they've gotten anywhere, I'm sad to say. I gave one star because Amazon doesn't have a lower rank.

I am a very experienced information technology professional. I wanted to upgrade my old SMC 7004 since my 13 year old decided to step on it and break off one of the antenna stalks. I went for this beauty because of specs and looks.I downloaded the latest firmware (.11) and flashed it before doing anything else.I did not have any problem configuring it since the browser interface is pretty straight forward. I have PPPoE with Verizon DSL and use 64 bit WEP since I don't want to have to configure all my wireless bridges around the house. I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes and I had Internet connectivity as well as brand new DHCP leases on every laptop and over every wireless bridge except for one laptop still running an old SMC2635W PCMCIA 11b card. The throughput was pretty decent for the 11b/g side and phenomenal on the 11a side. It gave a very strong signal on my back porch, way better than the 7004.This euphoria lasted about 20 minutes. Since then, it has decided to drop connection to the Internet, drop DHCP, drop connectivity and behave in a very erratic manner.I have been resetting it at least once every few hours for the last three days. I am getting so frustrated that I want to open the window and chuck it out.Needless to say It is going back today.Shame on you Netgear.

I've used my WG111NA with a Series 2 TiVo for six months or so without a hitch. It has pretty good range and reception in my house (which is, admittedly, small) and was a snap to install and configure on the TiVo. After six months of continuous, always on operation it has yet to give me any trouble.A word to the wise, however--you may not want to order this adapter online since it is very difficult (if not impossible) to know which version you will end up getting. I tried twice to order two different adapters online and both times got the wrong version. I ended up buying it at a local big-box retailer even though it cost more, just so that I could confirm the version.

I purchased this product along with the netgear wireless router with 4 ethernet ports, Plugged them both in and worked great from the beginning, Followed the usb 2.0 adapter suggestions to install the cd first and to let the wireless assistant control its connection. Immediately they connected and i was on the internet in seconds.A few weeks later father noticed that we had other persons on our wireless connection so i put in security. And again no loss in connection or speed. I keep my computer on for days at a time and the adapter gets hot but its still going strong. A wonderful piece of technology, I am thinking about upgrading to the Super G or Pre N in the near future if price permits. :)Oh yes forgot to mention that the initial setup allowed me internet access from behind two concrete walls at a distance of 75ft and a constant signal of 48mbps. Hope this was helpful

I wanted my old windows 98SE computer at the other end of my 5000 sq. ft. house to be wirelessly connected so I wouldn't need to keep switching telephone modem plugs depending on which PC needed internet access. My Netgear WGT624 sent out just enough signal but the 98SE connection would fail as soon as the main PC was accessing the internet, too. I went through several different set up hassles with other routers and antennas - nothing worked.I got this range extender expecting the worst since the outlet I would use is about 75 feet away. I followed the simple directions - Plug ethernet cord into router and the ethernet bridge. Plug bridge into wall outlet. Restart computer. Plug range extender into room where internet access is desired. Wait one minute. Well, wait more like 15 seconds and the 3 lights went on. I turned on the windows 98Se computer and I had a connection speed of 54 mbps - just like that - contrary to what CNET says.Amazing - worth every dollar.

So I wrote a loooooooooooooong email to my boss, explaining a protocol we were designing to implement, and hit send, and guess what, the Netgear smart wizard was looking for the wireless connection from my router across the room... It couldn't find and make that connection and lost the webpage, and I ended up all fuming over this break in wireless network. I had to write that again as a word ducoment so that I can SAVE it before trusting this stupid USB adapter. So this was just an example of what this thing is doing to me, and it has not happened just once. MANY TIMES has it lost the router, my laptop with in-built wireless adapter does not do this to me. And there's no cure for this stupid disease.

I bought my unit used on eBay about a year ago, so I don't know how old this really is. It's been working great, no drops. It works a little hot though.Tip: If you have Windows XP, just install the provided software, then disable it and let Windows handle the connection. If you do this, you will never have to worry about connection drops or buggy software. Just plug it in and use it.

My experience, with several repetitions: The adapter, continuously plugged in, continuously on, works for about 10 days, then stops working and drops the connection. It won't restart. The only way to recover is to unplug it, plug in your spare (you do have a spare, of course), and let the Netgear WG111T cool off for a couple of days. Then you plug it in again, and it works for about 10 days...

Good router, nice firewall features and affordableI have had this router for about 3 month now, it works great. Excellent firewalls features, and for the price you can't do much better. A lot of bad review on this piece of hardware, most of the complaints is about the dropped connections. I happen to know a lot more about networking then those people, and can tell you how to solve that problem very simply. I too was experiencing a lot of dropped connection, I rebooted the router and changed a few of the setting and now it work perfect. No dropped connections.Take the following steps if you are having the same issue:Access the routers setting through your browser by going to http://192.168.0.1/ , default user name should be Admin, and the password, is password.Go to the "advanced" category and select WAN SETUP and make sure Connect Automatically, as Required is checked. Then go to "basic setting" under the SET UP category. Go to Idle Timeout (In Minutes) the default setting will be I believe 10 or 15 min. change that to 0 (ZERO). This will prevent you router from disconnecting when it is not in use. This should solve you dropped connection issue. It did for me.Enjoy....

I have been an owner of several Netgear products in the past, however, when purchasing a USB wireless unit, I experienced some trouble with the drivers. The driver for the unit was available for download on the website, however, the download would hang after about 3 MB's. On November 19, I initiated a customer service request asking them to email me the driver. I did not receive a response until DECEMBER 12, where they offered to email me the driver but did not actually do so. I still have not received a response and am IRATE at the lack of concern for customer service and the slow response. If you are not a super computer expert, and setting up the wireless USB can be a little bit trickier than your average computer novice is used to, you may want to consider buying from another vendor that will actually respond to service requests in a timely manner.

Netgear clearly has not figured out how to make their RangeMax adapter work well with the Microsoft XP operating system. If you're not a techie, I'd stay away until Microsoft has certified the WPN311. Here's what I experienced:1. Installed using the Netgear WPN311 automated configuration.2. After installation completion and boot up, CPU utilization was at a solid 100%. Executable from Netgear named WLANCFG5.EXE taking up a bunch of the CPU and Microsoft routines CSRSS.EXE, NET.EXE, and NET1.EXE taking the rest.3. Emailed Netgear and received response to use Task Manager to delete WLANCFG5.EXE. Did so for all users.4. Hey! CPU utilization returned to normal!5. Sent next email to Netgear pointing out that this solution is just a "patch" and WLANCFG5 would return when I re-booted.6. Received response to de-install and re-install software for WPN311.7. Did so, but then Netgear adapter software could not find my MIMO wireless router! And usage of the Netgear adapter software doesn't allow you to use the Microsoft Wireless Zero Configurator (WZC).8. Went to microsoft.com and looked up error 871122 "Error message when you try to run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard" and followed the instruction to allow usage of WZC.9. Then able to add my wireless router and everything is ok.The functionality works great. It's the getting there that's not too pretty good......

I have the rangemax router and this PC card and have had no problems. The range extension is phenomenal. The 108 Mps speed pretty much is only available at home since it goes with the rangemax router. Otherwise I usually get about 54 Mps locally. But when using the laptop on the road (which is my normal mode of operation) I can now log onto access points I could barely detect before. Evidently the antenna is pretty good for what it is. I have not had a disconnect problem from the router but have continued to have the same old tired disconnect problems from the ISP and certain web sites. The asking price for this is a little high but it shouldn't be difficult to find it on sale.

This router is all it is advertised as being, although admittedly I am not using their wireless client, so in all fairness I can't comment on the increased speed. However, even with wireless a/b/g clients this provides a much more stable connection and a solid 54 Mbps connection. With the Intel 2915 card I was constantly getting disconnected and with other laptops or wireless pda's experienced connectivity problems and speed drops. With this router I get connected throughout the house and haven't experienced any drops, even with problematic units. Not having to waste my time resetting the router and troubleshooting to get connections more than compensates for the added cost. Amazon should get it back in stock.

I have four of these products. Two are V1 and two V2. The radio power and sensitivity are better in V2. However, with V2, I have had difficulties with the serial modem dial backup working, as well as VPN passthrough using another VPN host with the Netgear serving clients. Netgear tech support has tried to be helpful, but after six weeks has not been able to solve the problems. As soon as I revert to V1, things are fine. The trouble is that V2 is the current version.

Although the software interface wasn't the most sophisticated, the WG111 was easy to install and worked well enough for about six months. Then it started dropping connections to the various networks I'd been using, and now it doesn't connect at all. I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting; apparently, it's fairly common for the WG111 to crap out after several months. Don't buy it.

I'm taking it back. The software doesn't work so you have to install through Windows. The drivers (including the new one downloadable from Netgear) cause stop errors and unpredictable reboots of both computers on my network. The drivers are clearly incompatible with XP. The adapter itself overheats. I am VERY dissatisfied with this product and will replace it with another brand.
