I bought the Netgear Rangemax 240 wireless router for my home network to speed up the wireless communication, increase wireless range so I can work outside on the patio and increase the security by having WPA-2. Unfortunately, my Netgear 108 Mbps USB device didn't support the higher security level and I had to download a Beta driver, a driver which wouldn't communicate with the Rangemax 240.So, I bought the Rangemax 240 wireless adapter. Then everything seemed to be great. Speed and range are both excellent.The hitch? My Vonage VOIP, which worked flawlessly with my Netgear 108 Mbps wireless router was unusable, rendering both voice and fax useless. I had to reinstall my 108 Mbps to get things working while I tried Netgear support.So far, Netgear support has responded to my inquiries with some dispatch, but none of their sugegstions worked. Vonage told me it wasn't their problem, talk to Netgear. After many attempts at fixes (including DMZ's, and other exotic steps including turning off the Vonage linksys router firewall), I got Vonage VOIP to work with my Netgear Rangemax 240 only by turning off the Rangemax router's firewall -- I have read that this isn't a huge security breach issue since I don't broadcast my wireless network, have security passwords, WAP2, and use software firewalls, but am not really sure. Netgear support did not suggest solution, I had to figure it out by trial and error on my own. So, I am still communicating with Netgear trying to figure out how to fix things and hopefully have my Netgear router's firewall operative.But for the Vonage VOIP issue, this would be a 5 star rating. I am puzzled why my older Netgear router worked with Vonage without a hitch but not this one. But that is high-tech and the price early adopters pay.

Wow, I have had this up and running for less than a day and I am extremely giddy. I am seeing speeds that are almost identical to my wired ethernet connection. By utilizing some free online speed tests, I tested my laptop connection and my wired desktop connection with pretty much the same download speeds. I have a 15MB Fiber Optic line through Verizon FIOS, and my laptop is zooming now with this thing. I bought the matching PC card and I am seeing 168MBs at over 60 feet from the router. That's not to say that the speed doesn't vary, usually between 108MBs to 170MBs. It says it is connected at 240MBs, but either way, it's fast at this distance. I am supremely happy with the quick intall, and the speed.That being said, I am a bit perplexed at how the router cannot handle my internet connection directly. My old Rangemax router (WPN824) could take the ethernet cable directly from the wall and spit out the wireless connection. For some reason the new router needs the standard Verizon router inbetween for it to work. I hate adding components in the chain, but that's what it took to get it to work. I might tinker more with it later. Other than having a black antenna hanging out of my PC card slot on my laptop, this thing is working seamlessly with my Desktop, two Laptops, and my TIVO. Great Product.

I bought the RangeMax router along with two WPN111 and two WG111 USB adaptors.I am unimpressed with all of the USB adaptors. They seem to have significant issues with any sort of long-term connectivity, and were extremely difficult to even get working.Furthermore, installing the latest drivers for this product seem to break it, and stop it from communicating with the AP entirely. It took complete removal of all the drivers and re-installation of the old ones from the CD to get these adaptors working at all.The router is approximately 3 meters away from the adaptor with an uninterrupted line of sight. There's little or no EM interference, and yet the setup still only manages to get a signal strength of 65%.Recommended only for those that require ease of use, such as occasionally connecting a laptop to the wireless network.For anything else, get a better device.

It's not reliable. Although it does extend for a fair range, and I've maxed out my DSL at 320 kb/s, it tends to overheat and cut the connection. I've even tried juryrigged cooling, but I suspect it's insulated inside so it's kind of in a pressure cooker.I'm not going to buy another Netgear adapter after this. Seems like poor design.

Works very well with the Rangemax router. My DLink card kept dropping signal even at close range. This one stays on all the time!

Great product! I was happy to find this handy little gizmo. I wanted to set up a secondary computer on my home network, but didn't want the hassle of an internal device. I didn't know that such a device existed, but it was exactly what I wanted/needed and works flawlessly!Thank you, Netgear (and Amazon)!

It will work until you push it. So for example if you try copying files from one PC to another. It drops it's connection and you have to unplug it from the USB and reconnect it. Then it will work until next time it encounters a lot of demand for bandwidth.I've tried EVERY possible firmware and software update and configuration...it's just a poor design. Check the netgear discussion forums...everyone is having this problem and there is no solution. The unit also overheats.This is my first amazon review and I don't do a lot of complaining.But Neatgear shouldn't even be selling this product and I don't want to see more people get burned.

Netgear's WPN802 may not be necessary for everyone but it really works for me. Our Internet connection is through Direcway/Hughes satellite and a router won't work with it. A hub/switch and a wireless access point is required instead. Setup for the WPN802 was fairly straight forward using the enclosed paper Installation Guide. Configuring the desktop computer to communicate with the WPN802's IP address was all that was really necessary. After that the WPN802 was connected to the hub/switch and we were ready to go wireless.Netgear also provides a thorough manual on disk that provides additional information for more complicated setups. Overall I'm satisfied. The current $20 rebate also helps.

I purchased two of these units in December. This model seems to randomly stop routing traffic to the internet on random wireless attached computers (local network is fine). Three months later and numerous emails and phone calls to Netgear they sent me a replacement; SAME issues with the new model! Not all Netgear products are bad, this one is. Don't ever try to work with Netgear support, just not worth the stress.

Can't beat the price and it works great. I do PC troubleshooting and it's nice to have an alternate way to connect when the users wireless nic fails or is misconfigured. Nice and small. Very durable.

Found this Netgear USB adapter and ordered it. Wow, it is so easy to install and the wireless signal is so stronge. It connected at 54 Mbps most the time. I ordered one after another and have three already. Try it with Windows Vista Home Premium, just in a second it found the driver from my hard drive and connected in few seconds. Very impressive for this adapter.

I purchased 3 of these devices to set up a wireless network at one of my customers. I have been setting up networks for six years and I have set up many wired and wireless networks. The basic marketing material sound great, like it will work very well. However, the user documentation is woefully inadequate except for the reference guide which you must download from Netgear web site. Once you have the guide, you will find out how to enable WEP encryption or change the IP address on the unit. It all sounds easy, except for one thing, it doesn't work! The software can find the units on the powerline network but is incredibly flaky in connecting to those units. For example, you can ping the device a few times but then it doesn't ping for 5 minutes or so, then it does. If you make changes using the software, changing the units IP address for example, then click on apply, often that is the time it cannot connect. Then you can't ping the old address or the new one. So, you have to press the reset button and start over. The building that I set this network up in was built in the last 5 years, so the electrical wiring is up to code and not creating the problem.The basic Netgear setup assumes that you don't have more than one device (they all default to the same IP address and it's very time consuming to change the address because the connection is so flaky!)and you don't care about enabling any encryption. Yeah, that's great if you want to give your neighbors wireless access to your computer and your web connection. I don't think most people would want to do that. I worked with 3 units and a wireless bridge device (the required Netgear XE102) for about 5 hours and could get it to work but only on an unacceptably intermittent basis. I would strongly recommend that you not buy this product since it will only create a lot of frustration and suck up lots of your time and then, not work consistently. Or you could just use it without any encryption or security. Uh, wait a minute, you probably shouldn't do that!

This adapter did nothing but make my windows xp system run like crap. BSOD, registry problems, computer froze repeatedly. And yes I did install the drivers correctly. Once this card was installed it acted virus like. I couldn't even load any google sites, though every other site was fine. Once the card was removed and replaced with a simular product from another manufacturer my computer ran fine. DO NOT BUY>>>PIECE OF CRAP.

Don't buy this prodcut. It blue screens PC daily. The screen references the netgear drivers. Even though lots of people have this problem no fix from Netgear. That is crappy support. Don't fall for thier rebate mumbo jumbo you get what you pay for. Drop the Netgear box and run as fast away as possible!

I had this thing for 2 months and got constantly bad signal from it. It would go all the way down to 2mbps. I did not pay for a crappy b signal. I paid for a good g signal. What was wrong you ask. I had the netgear plugged directly into the back of my computer. When I used the provided usb extension cable voila I have had nothing but 54mbps since. Keep this adapter away from your computer otherwise your signal will be extremely terrible.

I want to preface this review by stating that I started out as a big Netgear fan. I love the design - their products have a great footprint. Believe it or not, their older products (802.11b router and usb adapter) work great!! But since the introduction of Super-G and Pre-N, their products are terrible and their technical support has gone downhill as well. I have no idea what is driving these terrible business decisions but the products just don't work!! I have been in I.T. for 15 years and I have tried all types of wireless products. This Netgear 240 drops connections ever few minutes. Tech support is impossible to get and when you do get them, the answers are generic. Bottom line is that I have never got this product to work consistently. I returned and bought a Belkin Pre-N (a few dollars more) and it works beautifully and the admin config page is easy to understand. Even as a professional the Belkin makes sense. Save yourself grey hairs and high blood pressure and get a Belkin or DLink and forget about Netgear - great to look at but that is about it.

This adapter is for replacement of my previous belkin 54g wireless adapter. I am still using my old belkin 54g router, and I noticed the great difference in signal strength and stable connection once this adapter was installed.I also tried Netgear WG111T 108g adapter. In the corner where the signal and connection was poor with belkin 54g adapter, WG111T 108g could picked the signal easily with no drop off, but connection speed is mediocre. While in the same spot with the same router, this rangemax 240 WPNT511 showes the signal strength in excerlence and the connection speed is easily hit 54Mbps (limited by my 54g belkin router) and there is no drop off at all. Great!Comparing the price, this $20($40-$30rebate+$10Tax&shipping)Netgear Rangemax 240 adapter rom Compusa is superb.

Like so many others I found that the unit fails quickly. The original failed after 4 months. The replacement lasted only long enough to get beyond the warranty period. I then bought a refurbished unit and it lasted 16 months. The original companion XE102 is still working, so I am going to replace the WGX102 wth a second XE102. I will have to connect the remote computer to it with a cable, but since it can be moved to any outlet, it is still pretty flexible. I hope I have found a way around the unreliable WGX102.

This is a horrible product, it was fine at first just for surfing the web, but when you try I tried to play World of Warcraft or download a huge file, it would just stop working. It overheats and fails!! 20 bux down the drain!!

JUST TO GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND YOUR NAME TAKES AN ACT OF GOD!, THEN HOURS ON THE PHONE...THEN YOU CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE AND YOU PAY 30.00 FOR ADVANCED SUPPORT!! NEVER AGAIN NETGEAR, AND BY THE WAY IF ANY OF YOU WANT MY OLD ROUTERS FROM NETGEAR EMAIL ME AND I WILL SEND THEM TO YOU FREE OF CHARGE!!

I bought this unit, Netgear WGX102, along with the Netgear XE102 Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my wireless network and the combination work great. I have excellent signal through out the house. The complain I have is the documentation is really bad but once you figure it out it works great. The unit come with default address of 192.168.0.101 and my Netgear wireless router was set at 192.168.11.1. To get this to work I connect the Netgear XE102 to my wireless router. Set my computer to a fixed IP of 192.168.0.1 to allow me to connect to the Netgear XGX102. Once connected I change the configuration of the WGX102 to set its IP to 192.168.11.2 and set a new SSID. After that I just change my computer back to "Optain IP address Automatically" and configure my computer's wireless network to use the SSID of the Netgear XE102. Now it's working great with excellent signal strength and so far I haven't have any drop connection or interferences from my neighbors.

So far I am a big fan of this router. I am struggling with how to best expand my network (adding range repeaters/boosters and a Gigabit wired infrastructure) since I am using this WPNT834 as the core of my network, but I'm sure time will open up my options.Just recently I switched from using Linksys as my primary and favored manufacturer for my SOHO networks (home and office/small warehouse). They seem to have a number of products that meet my need which is the area between low end items that aren't as robust or feature heavy as I require and want and the $1k+ products that are overboard for my purposes. It's great to find a company that has such a range of products that fit into my sweet spot.More details on my experience with this particular router over time. It set-up easily and seems to be operating with no hitches thus far. If you want the latest and greatest and need speed over your wireless network, you would be foolish not to check this out as an option.My only negative comment is that this router, along with any other is suseptible to interference and I would suggest that a good place to start to optimize your wireless network is to take a look around your home and to eliminate or strategically place any item likely to cause interference - cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless speakers and on and on and on.
