We were looking for a webcam to keep in touch with my cousin deployed in Afghanistan. Very easy set up, very easy to use. Have had no issues with. We've never used any other webcams, so we can't compare it to anything else. Decent price too.

The camera was easy to install and works well on a Win 7 64 bit computer. Use primarily for Skype, where it performs as expected. Design would have been greatly improved if the USB was a couple of feet longer, (long reach from the back of a tower on the floor to the top of a monitor on the desk). The system to fasten the camera to the top of the monitor could have also been made to be more reliable/secure. If you move your monitor, be sure to remove the camera first, because it does not hold well, and will fall off if any pressure or strain is placed on the USB cable.

First of all, even though I use a Macbook currently, I have used my fair share of PCs in my lifetime, and I am not one of those crazy "down-with-Microsoft!" types. I've had my issues with Macs as well. However, I believe my particular experience with this product (LifeCam NX-3000) says something about the company that has its name on it:The reason I chose to buy the Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 was specifically for the "Microsoft" name. I live in the U.S. while my parents live in Turkey. When something goes wrong with their PC, I end up staying on the phone with them for hours, trying to solve their issues from the other side of the world. So when it came to choosing a webcam for them, I went with Microsoft, because I figured that a Microsoft webcam would be least likely to have compatibility or maintenance issues with Windows XP, which happens to be another quite popular Microsoft product.The webcam worked remarkably well for a year or so. My parents, who, as you might have guessed, are not the most tech-savy people in the world, learned to use the NX-3000 quite easily. I personally liked the images I got on the webcam built into my Macbook better than those from the NX-3000, but I can attest that the noise-reduction microphone on the NX-3000 did its job quite well.After a year, I got the news from my father that their laptop started crashing and restarting within seconds of them plugging in the NX-3000 into a USB port. I got to examine the issue when I went back home for a visit. Within 5-6 seconds of plugging in the camera, the blue screen of death would appear for only a second (with the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error) and the computer would immediately restart. The only thing you would need to get this behavior is to plug in the camera. I checked for an updated driver for the camera, but couldn't find any updates on the Microsoft website. I then removed the current driver and re-installed it, but that changed nothing. After searching the net for this error for a few hours, I read a report where somebody disabled the LifeCam software the is in the "startup processes" list in msconfig. They said that the camera would work irrespective of this software. I tried removing this process from the startup list, and this worked! My parents could use their camera once again! This would be a happy ending, but alas... A month after returning to the States, I learned the same problem had resurfaced. At this point, I am not sure why this is the case, and I guess their camera will be useless for them until I go back there again and look at the issue...You are Microsoft: a software giant. Your OS is used by hundreds of millions of people all over the world (I'm talking about Windows XP here, not one of them recent releases.) I would understand if the webcam you sell dies because of poor build quality. After all probably some random contractor in China is building it for you. But, no! It fails because the software that runs the camera messes up and BRINGS THE WHOLE SYSTEM DOWN! This is the really sad part: You write the system software, you also write the webcam software. This is all software, this is what you should be doing best! Even a polite little message saying that "Please spend another 50 bucks and buy our newer webcam" would be better than the operating system dying all together! If you cannot do this right, what good can we expect from your company then?What have I learned from all this?***Third party companies are probably better in accommodating issues with the Microsoft operating systems/software than Microsoft itself***I just hope that Microsoft is aware of this all --not my specific problem but the issue in general-- and that they are doing something about it.Until then, I will buy peripherals from Logitech or some other manufacturer...

I bought this webcam for my grandparents and they were able to easily set it up and use it. They love that they can readjust it on top of their computer but it doesn't fall off. Overall, it was. Great purchase!

I've been pleased with this model for years, solid video & audio quality across Skype. I had one that lasted for 5 years, & was only put down after my cat ripped it out of my laptop & severed the cord. I liked it enough to purchase another.

Would have given it a 5, but the Internet software didn't install. Got errors and continue to. I have a Dell XP SP3 2.8Ghx with only 1.5Gb ram. I'll add more ram and see if the low system memory errors go away. It's the only thing running on this machine. I have other machines, but this one has room for the large files it creates.The picture quality is really good, and the sound picks up everything. For under $30 this is a good value despite the issues of the software and the errors. I figure it is an older machine and O\S, so doesn't matter to me. I just wanted it for security videos and it does this fine with good sound.Haven't used it for video conferences etc., as I don't need this and the software didn't load for it. If you just want a cheap security indoor camera is a great deal.Not that I would expect the files to be smaller, but just an FYI that at the 420x320 you can expect to burn up 1/2 a gig an hour. I was able to run another program despite the low memory (I do not have the recommended 2 gigs) and still ran good. It saves the files as wmv which play back well with Media Player.This is an important factor as some cameras and programs out there save them so only their software can run it, so another reason for the 4 rating.Bought an earlier version for a friend so he could Skype with a son in Iraq and that worked well to. Make sure you use a 2.0 USB extention cable not the 1.0 type.Updated 1-30-2012 - Bought a New Dell Win7 machine with plenty of power so i could take advantange of the cameras resolution options. Now the sound doesn't work, Media player crashes if I want to advance the frames. Trying to use this for home security but seems like getting a machine multipletimes faster isn't helping. This or the new media player can't handle the larger files. Annoying that Media Player crashes furing play back but this IS a Microsoft product running on a Microsoft OS brand new out of the box. Downgrading the rating as it may still work great for Skype and for taking pictures but wonder how powerful a mchine is needed or the correct play back program to run the videos on.

The packaging is so thick and product so well fortified that it destroyed a perfectly good pair of scissors, cut a perfectly good finger, left a mess, and wasted entirely too much time.

This webcam did it work for a very long time, eventually the clip maintaining the camera of falling off the monitor broke and the camera kept working for almost another year. I think I still have it somewhere.It was a good product at the time

I had been looking for a good camera that can clip on to a laptop. The quality of the video is really good, and the clip is secure. It is very compact and comes with a little carrying bag. I can't be more pleased with the product.

This Microsoft webcam is excellent for the price.It has almost no frills and will not substitute higher-priced models.The mounting is excellent too; it rides quite securely on top of a 1.5" thick flat-screen monitor.It has a cable long enough for normal desktop configurations.

This is great because the bottom area can contort and flex in ways you want. It can help if you want to tape it to a wall or even lil things like that. Recommend it

This webcam is very good, and shows decently clear images even in low fluorescent lighting. I use it only with Google Hangouts, so have not tried out the bundled software yet - but I expect that it will be neat too.

This camera is perfect for video conferencing and especially for use with Yahoo messenger. With nothing to install, it worked right away and the microphone is excellent. I highly recommend this little camera for those who want something simple and of good quality.

For the price, I have absolutely zero complaints, really.It works like a charm, and is actually really great quality, but there are a few notes I need to make:1. If your laptop has a glossy exterior and/or a slanted lid design, you'll need something to hold it in place on the monitor edge. I have a Toshiba Satellite, and my monitor lid is both glossy and rounded/slanted. The clip and padding provided won't hold in place and it slips right off. I got some little rubber adhesive pads with sticy backs and it solved the problem.2. The driver disc (for me, at least) has trouble reading if installed directly from the disc. My CD/DVD-ROM drive works just fine except with this disc. I thought it was "downloading" drivers or something but it just ran and ran and ran for like 45 minutes before I forced the drive to eject. I could hear the drive spinning up, then down, over and over...the progress bar pretended to be doing stuff, but it would just recycle back to the beginning when it reached the end.The SOLUTION to this (for me) was to just EXPLORE the disc and COPY all of the files to a folder on my desktop, then run the setup from there. Took less than 1 minute.Once I got the webcam stabilized and the drivers installed, it has been perfect. Got to talk to family overseas for free via Skype for the holidays. Good stuff.

Great webcam, especially for the price!Quick setup and cable long enough to put anywhere you want.a lot of cool fun little apps to mess with the picture.I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a good webcam but doesnt want to spend much money on one.

This product came with an installation CD that didn't work for my computer. But guess what- didn't even need the program. As soon as I plugged the device into the port, the computer automatically recognized it and it was ready to go. Excellent sound and picture quality, especially for the price.

First of all, let me get this out of the way: despite what another reviewer said, the HD-3000 most certainly DOES have a microphone.That said, I think this camera is great. I've never been a fan of most built-in cameras because they're tough to aim without having to move your entire laptop or computer. Yes, they're convenient, but who wants to be a slave to viewing angles just to make sure you're broadcasting well. So I like stand alone cameras.The problem is that most of them are lousy, or are hard to get pointing the way you want. In this case, neither of those things are true. I found the picture to be excellent and easily adjustable even in what I would consider to be low light. The auto-lighting works great as well, allowing a user to point it anywhere in the room and get good results quickly.Also, placement is easy to change thanks to a sufficiently long USB cord and the awesome flexible base - curve it into an inverted "u" for monitor-top use, or bend it into any other shape to put it on your desktop. I love that about this camera.Software and hardware installation were a snap, and the included LifeCam software is great; I found the effects to be more fun to play with than those included with Photo Booth on the Mac. My 14-year-old daughter also gave it a seal of approval, saying "that's a REALLY cool camera." What more can I say?Sound is a slight letdown as it's a bit lacking in upper-mids and highs. O.K. for a conversation, but don't expect to record a video with it. Also, there doesn't appear to be a metering system to set inbound levels, which is a bit of a drag, making you have to try a setting, test it, then adjust. While the audio quality isn't enough to make me give the HD-3000 a poor review - it is enough to drop what would otherwise be a five star review to a four.But don't get me wrong: it's a great camera. It's flexible, extremely adjustable, shoots in HD, and is easy to use. Particularly for the price, I don't see how you can ask for much more than that: definitely recommended.

I got this Webcam for occasional use to keep in touch with family members. It comes with software for Windows computers, but it turns out it also works out of the box with Linux computers as well, as long as you're running a recent kernel; as the necessary driver appears to only recently have been added into the standard kernel--the camera didn't work with Ubuntu 11.04 but works fine with Ubuntu 11.10. (Who would've thought a Microsoft product would play nicely with Linux?)I put up two laptops side by side to compare image quality. One had the built-in Webcam that came with it; the other was showing the image from this camera. This camera has better color, a sharper image, and you can still make out details in low-light conditions. It's quite an impressive picture in fact, especially when compared side-by-side so you can literally see what you'd be missing without it.Unfortunately if you want to do HD videoconferencing (this camera can go up to 720p), you will have to use the Microsoft software on Windows and your partner will have to have another one of these. But given that these cameras don't cost much, it's certainly worth considering for the excellent images.

This cam is great:*It's cheap*It has a very very good quality picture.*It works great on dark rooms even at night with just the light of my monitor I can still broadcast with no problem.*My pc is kind of old (7 to 9 years old) and it works perfect. I can't give it 5 stars because nothing is perfect but this one is like 4.89 stars out of 5.

This is my very first experience using a webcam and I have to say I was highly impressed with this product. The installation disk had some interface trouble with my laptop but I was immediately taken to an online 'patch' that corrected the problem and allowed for trouble-free installation. I specifically wanted a webcam so that I could talk to my granddaughter and it works excellently! There is a clear picture, no errors or pop ups of any kind, no delay in time and I'm told the microphone works excellently. (And my 4 yo granddaughter got a kick out of seeing her Meme on the computer! Lol.)I initially saw this product as 50% off and that raised a warning flag, but not one of my worries came true. This product runs on my Windows 7 Home environment. It has not delayed shut down or boot up of my system (something I heard it might do). All in all it is worth the 5 star rating!

So I bought this product for my desktop that I built, and I was gonna put it on my monitor. Turns out when this thing arrived in the mail that it doesn't fit a standard computer monitor, and it's a webcam made for a laptop. The video is great on Skype and so is the mic, but that's about it for me.

Product was a little hard to keep open the clamp and then onto the laptop. Picture quality is grainy. I guess you get what you pay for though. $13. Microphone is really does noise cancelling, but your speakers must be turned up in order to hear.

It took a while to actually purchase the camera. We researched it for quite a while and at the end, we just went with it by luck! Purchased for a business, it takes quite a few pictures a day. Great images, clear and high quality. Great price.
