I bought a Kinect mostly so I could play the dance games for a little extra exercise to hopefully rid me of my slightly chunky thighs. I ended up buying several games for it along with the three it came with. So far it has worked almost perfectly with each game. I think it's great that it can track my movement so I can be interactive with the games rather than just sitting their pressing buttons on a controller while drooling down the front of my shirt. I also like that I can select options by a swipe of my hand through the air so I don't have to be attached to a controller while playing. I only have one complaint. While playing Just Dance 3 and other games, I noticed that the Kinect seemed to have a mind of its own and was selecting songs and options even when I wasn't moving. I realized after moving out of the screen altogether that it was picking up my cat sleeping on the couch behind me, even though my cat wasn't moving other than breathing. It sometimes counts my sleeping cat as another player and turns what should have been a solo dance into a partner dance, in which, obviously, my cat does not score well. Now, if my cat could get up and dance with me, I would be very happy and have lots of funny videos to post on the internet, but it can't, so I don't like that the Kinect picks it up as a player, especially when it's just sleeping behind me. Why can't its sensors just pick up things that are human-shaped? Now, I try to keep my cats out of the way, but that's not always easy because they have these four little things called legs. Sometimes I notice when no one (not even my cat) is in the screen with me, the Kinect will still seem to have a mind of its own and select things while I'm not moving. Sometimes it scrolls up and down jerkily through the song selection when I'm standing still or even out of the screen completely. I discovered it was picking up a throw blanket that was behind me (moving it out of the way made the Kinect stop scrolling on its own), a foot stool, and another time it picked up the corner of a computer chair. I don't know why it does this when the items are not moving or even remotely human. This messes up my game play at times and it's very annoying. I think maybe it's too sensitive and acting like a drama queen. That said, I still love my Kinect and I'm happy to have it. It has made playing video games more fun for me. I usually only played Left 4 Dead 2, Halo: Reach, and Borderlands, but now I play more of a variety of games and don't get fat doing it. Sometimes it feels good to take a break from shooting things and stand up and do the Carlton instead.

My wife and I decided to purchase this game for our two sons (ages 5 and 4). They absolutely love this game. I highly recommend it. There is enough variety in the game that it does not appear that they will tire of it any time soon. Who am I kidding? I love it, too. That's right, I said it. There is one mission in particular where my eldest son and I played co-op as rats from Ratatoulle (sp?) and we had to pick up and toss tomatos and oranges at the face of a chef. It was hilarious. But, there are so many other fun things to do in the game.Playability/Mechanics: The Kinect sensor is very responsive. In addition to the traditional method of holding your "hand" over a button, they've included voice commands where you can just speak the button text to the Kinect and it launches the event without having to use the traditional method. This is a great feature as my eldest can read the simple text so he chooses to shout the commands rather than "pushing" the buttons... my youngest is learning from his brother so he does the same thing. There are several variations of play, but other than the driving ones (in the Cars themepark and scattered within the others), it mainly consists of running, jumping, picking up objects and throwing them, flying/gliding/sliding (holding your arms out to control direction or holding your arms up while you slid down a rope - even one-handedly), swinging, balancing, and climbing in several different settings.Co-op: It's brilliant. Want to see the young ones finally work together to accomplish a goal? What better way than in a video game. When playing in co-op mode, there are many "team" objectives where one person has to do one thing and another has to do something else simultaneously in order to continue. I was afraid that this would result in arguments between my two sons, but, on the contrary, they mastered the mechanics and actually do help each other out.And, like I mentioned before, there are several themes. When my sons tire of one theme, they exit and head to another. It really is a perfect Kinect game for kids.

The kinect is a peripheral for the XBox, but it can also be used with your PC if you're a programmer.It's fair sized, with an integrated array microphone, infrared camera, and normal RGB camera. Still, I'm able to set it on my fireplace mantle beneath my LCD TV, no problem.What does it do? Glad you asked! Hook this up to your xbox, and you can use it to control some of your xbox menu's and experiences. For example, on my 360 I use it sometimes to navigate menu's. There's also a bunch of games you can buy which are controlled by you standing up and making gestures - no physical controller needed! My favorites so far are the Kinect Adventures and Dance Central, I haven't tried many others.Kinect adventures - which this comes with - has a bunch of games which emphasis leaning, jumping, ducking, and so on. Many of the games can be played with two people at the same time and are a blast, though simplistic: there's one where you control a roller coaster car, another where you control a raft going around a course, one where you pop bubbles in space, and so on. Simple, but fun!Some warnings:- you need space to use this thing. It seems to like you to be between 6' and 10' from the sensor.- You use it standing up, and it needs to be able to see your whole body. So, don't try to play with a table between you and the kinect.- Make sure you have room to flail around. It's easy to get into a game and forget how close you are to that priceless ming vase.If you are a programmer, you can also play around with the kinect on your PC. There's an SDK which lets you get the depth and RGB video streams as well as audio. Works great! You can see lots of videos on youtube too if you look for 'kinect windows' or 'kinect demo' - look at the more recent stuff. You can find the SDK by searching for 'kinect sdk download'The kinect uses a USB port. On the newest XBox-360's, there's a dedicated port with enough power on the back. You can use the kinect with older XBoxes and PC's as well, but you have to use an optional power adapter that comes with it.If you're interested, I recommend going to a store or a friends where a kinect is set up and playing a game or two. I bought one of these cause I was excited, but I'm too lazy to hop around playing the games so far! My nephews and my son love it, though!Overall the kinect is cool enough to try out! For the prices of 2 or 3 games it gives you a whole new way of playing with the xbox. Now if I could just get myself to expend the required energy... :)

12/06/2011All I can tell you about this product is that it is the future of gaming and media interface. I purchased the kinect on black friday and it is awesome. 1st off, the user interface with Netflix and other applications is spot on. I tend to use the voice recognition more than anything out of laziness. As long as you calibrate everything correctly it works perfectly. The great thing about the kinect is the hardware is very good and way ahead of it's time, a great foundation to build on. All other improvements are dependent on software upgrades. It is going to take a while before any other the other console manufacturers can come up with anything close.As far as gaming goes, there aren't that many games out yet, but I have played quite a few. The Gunstringer is very fun and amusing. The comedic aspect of the characters definately livens up the game with better content. The gaming interface is great as well. I have played Child of Eden which is nothing short of magnificent. If you have a nice TV you will be mesmerized by the graphics alone. The integration of creating your techno beats is awesome. And the gaming experience is like Lawnmower Man meets Minority Report meets Gamer. One thing is, if you have ever had a seizure or if you have epilepsy DO NOT play this game. Both the Kinect Sports games are very similar to wii games, but better because you are the controller!!!! There is no added expense in buying new controllers. Table Tennis and Boxing are my favorites. Kinect Adventures is a great way to get used to the Kinect. I always have people play this first before playing any other game as it is a great tutorial for the gaming experience. Beyond that, it become boring quick, so you have to buy another game within the first few days of owning the kinect, but that is ok, Microsoft is not a charity.Just to wrap it all up where the kinect really shines is the future. I have read that Xfinity(comcast) has joined forces with Microsoft and the kinect is the future of media viewing. In the near future all of the TV studios will be making applications for the XBOX 360. The live network is a tried and true product and will always surpass other gaming consoles networks. I say this as a person who used to be an avid PS2 gamer and hated the original XBOX. After I bought my 360 I haven't looked back. I hope this review is very helpfull to everyone and I hope you all by XBOX360's and the Kinect!

First off, I'd like to say that I'm a motion gaming addict. Microsoft offers this package, which is their best package to date. If you plan on just buying this package, and a couple other Microsoft games, I'd say go for it. Gunstringer, in my opinion, shows off what the Kinect can do, as well as Fruit Ninja Kinect. Most people who have played Kinect Adventures get bored after a week, although when I first played it, it was fascinating.In Gunstringer, you raise your left arm out and navigate your character. Your right arm is your trigger arm, and when you roll over characters, you raise your arm to shoot. It's a lot of fun, as I have to say that it's a good choice for this package, although there is an adult theme that one must be aware of. Fruit Ninja Kinect is a downloadable title, and has high replayability value. It's lots of fun to swipe your arm across the picture to chop fruits in half.Now, for my gripes. I've always thought that boxing and tennis would be the hottest selling games, and games that wouldn't require much space. Exercise games are awesome also, but until the Kinect can allow you to play in a smaller space, there is a problem a lot of people will have. Many users claim you only need 6 feet, but I find this untrue. 6 feet only will work with a lot of games(the games in this package work great with only 6 feet), but I've found that when other developers games all of a sudden require me to step back, the whole formula doesn't work.Most of the other developers games are by Ubisoft and THQ. Ubisoft is better of the two, but in my opinion, neither can compete with a game developed by Microsoft, which really takes limited space into account.Kinect is still based off of hope for the future:A year ago, many high reviews based this off of HOPE. A year later, and I'd say there are only a handful Microsoft exclusives, and a lot is still based off of hope. I'd say the best of the bunch are the Kinect Sports 1 and 2, but I'd prefer to see each sport focused on more, in a stand alone title like a Grand Slam Tennis, for instance. Star Wars Kinect seems to be promising, but as of today the release date is December 31. 2012.In conclusion, I feel this is a generous deal by Microsoft for the 2011 holiday season, and is a bargain with the included games worth fifty dollars. Who knows? In a few months, you may end up like me, always checking to see if there are any new releases for the Kinect. Have a good one. Peace out!

I bought this game after reading reviews and it has lived up to all the positive ones.I have four kids ages 4-9 and they all enjoy playing it. In fact they even enjoy just watching each other play. The movements are easy but keep you active and the stories that you play out are entertaining. No one gets stuck on a hard level because it gives you the option to skip after trying something for a while. Most of all I love to see my two sons, ages 5 & 9, playing as a team to complete levels, instead of against each other. The kids keep asking if they have other movies they like, such as Shreck and Madagascar:). Great job whoever put this game together, it's exactly what I hoped a Kinect game would be!

Ordered a Kinect from this seller with 3 games: Gunstringer, Fruit Ninja, & Kinect adventures. When the "box" arrived, it was made of 6 cut-out cardboard pcs that had been taped together. The Kinect box inside had obviously been opened, and the flaps had tear marks. Everything looked new, but when we attempted to install it, an error message said the Kinect couldn't calibrate, and that something must be blocking the sensor. It was on a flat surface with nothing touching it, but we moved the table runner away and tried once more. Same error message. Followed troubleshooting instructions, and the message popped up again. We reset the Kinect a total of four times, only to see the same error message....over and over and over. XBox support advised us that the Kinect was defective, and to return it to the seller.We contacted the seller and filed a claim. The seller replied that we should send it back and they would see IF it was defective. I clarified that XBox support stated that it was defective. That we followed all of the suggested installation requirements. That we are familiar with game equipment (we are typically the family members who install our friends' and families' gaming systems, and Man of the House builds and repairs computers. He's quite familiar with the components involved), and that we were specifically told by XBox support that the item should be returned.We sent the item on Tuesday via UPS and were advised that it would reach the seller on Thursday or Friday. We still have not heard from them or been refunded the $25 for shipping, or the $128 I initially paid for this item.Moral of the story? BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PURCHASE ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ON AMAZON. PRICE CHECK IN PERSON AT LOCAL SELLERS FIRST. At least then, if the item you buy is broken, you won't have to spend more of your money to ship it back to a vendor who may or may not decide that their product is junk.

Picked up the Kinect Sensor for Christmas and decided it was time to write a review.Why only four stars? Four stars because I see the potential in the device, it's a lot of fun. The problem is that there are only about 60ish Kinect specific games available and for me, only a hand full are worthy of owning. I haven't found any single game that screams for me to buy this, but the decent games make it worth the sale price ($100 at the time) that was paid for it.Kinect Adventures isn't bad. It's a game of mini games. If you have a Wii, you know all about a game full of mini games. The mini games are fun, but nothing revolutionary.Fruit Ninja. Who hasn't played Fruit Ninja on a phone? If you've played FN on a phone or mobile device, this is the same only on a bigger screen. If you haven't played FN, you're an off screen ninja swinging and swiping at flying fruit for high scores. Mindless fun but not something most people will spend countless hours with.Gunstringer is a high point on the Kinect and one of the reasons I went with this particular bundle. If Gunstringer hadn't come with the Kinect at the time of purchase, I definitely would have sought it out. You play as a zombie/skeletal marionette seeking revenge on the bandits who left you for dead. Gameplay is kind of repetitive but fun. My arms get tired by the time a chapter is completed.Everything you need to connect this Kinect to your 360, be it the old white 360 or the new slim 360, it's there. The slim connection is simpler than the old model as you just need to connect everything to the system. With the white 360s you have to connect the USB cord to the 360 along with running a Y-splitter to an external power adapter that needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet.Over all, using the Kinect is fun and revolutionary. It's miles above using a magic wand in my opinion like the other systems, but there honestly aren't any games I would call killer apps for the Kinect. I like Gunstringer, but Gunstringer on its own doesn't sell me on the system, but a few releases do make the investment worthwhile.

This game has the poorest Kinect ID and player setup functionality I have yet experienced.Once humans are able to play (plenty of login help often needed), guidance is nearly NIL (no manual either)This is the first product I have encountered with a Pixar-branded endorsement that was so poor.Other reviewers have similar experiences --- why so many positive reviews?Perhaps login/setup is a physical Kinect issue in my playing area; bit, many other Kinect games/features work well in the samearea.Never-the-less, I believe the layability & guidance is abysmal.

This is not, and will not be (at least in the near term) a product for the typical end user.One other person commented that this is also only good for those that are experienced programmers... I would like to point out that is not entirely true either ... There are some resorces available that will help you get started with programing with this device. I am not an expert programmer, i don't even consider myself a good programer, but I'm using this device to learn a lot of things... I've wanted to learn more programming, however a big issue with me is that I just didnt know what to make / didnt have anything interesting to work on... This device changes that and makes the process of learning a fun experience for me. Learning with this device will further my abilities and make me more marketable, not because I can program a Kinect but because I'm motivated to learn more programing in general because of the Kinect.If your kind of a geek, and want a toy to play with, something that will challange you to learn some new things and have fun while you are at it, this is a pretty cool item to pick up!If you want something to plug into your computer that will make your computer do some neat things out of the box, you might want to move on and get a different toy.Additional Note: You are going to want to have a decent computer to plug this into... I'm getting ready to upgrade my very old dual core system, but this thing is killing my computer right now... Anytime I start talking to this device my CPU utilization runs solid at 100% and it is not giving me a very good frame rate on the video feeds. THIS IS NOT THE SENSORS FAULT, I'm just putting a note here that your computer does make a difference with this device! ... That being said, I am still playing with it and enjoying my time learning about the product.

I bought this for myself and my girlfriend last christmas, I must say it is a great product with a few caveats. While it is a fun item for the family to play around with, besides the game fruit ninja, there isn't a single game out for it that doesn't either wear thin after 20 minutes or seem like a game made for 6-year olds. I recommend this for any family who uses their Wii just to play wii sports, as it is a major upgrade from that and the fitness games are great for the nerd who wants to start getting back in shape!However, if you are a serious gamer the only use for this is to talk to your xbox in games like Mass Effect 3. Which works well, but seems like a pretty silly addition that is completely not needed in most cases, and due to the fact that it is right on top of your television normally accidentally makes mistakes from hearing the TV instead of hearing you.

My son and I really enjoyed this one. It's a lot of his favorite characters and he gets to 'be' them in the game. Very engaging and simple to interface via the Kinect. It's not very challenging, which is why it's good for young kids. Note that the amount of gameplay is a bit limited compared to some games, but it will provide many hours of entertainment before you have finished the adventures.

I was very dubious of the Xbox. Images of static pale looking kids pushing buttons no fresh air no exercise! These games changed my mind. Obviously running around outside playing is always better... But on rainy cabin fever days my boys can play these active games and work up a sweat jumping running and swimming( all in the family room!)So much fun. Two players side by side have to work cooperatively or one player alone. I very often end up joining in.

My six year old loves this game! It took some getting used to, but he figured it out after a few minutes and can now move his character around fairly easily.I like how you cannot lose in this game, it will just take you a few seconds back from where you messed up, and let you start from there. It also let's you take as long as you want to complete each mission, but if you do finish before a certain amount of time, it gives little "awards" and badges.I would definitely recommend this for all those little Pixar fans out there!

We purchased this as a Christmas present for the grandkids. They have loved it! They have really enjoyed the Kinect Adventures game that came with it, but they have never really enjoyed Gunstringer (neither have I, to be honest). There are some great Kinect games for the whole family. My daughter really enjoys all of the Dance Central games. Be aware, you do need a good amount of room in front of the sensor for it to work properly. The optimal distance in my application is about 5 feet out from the sensor. We have a large living room, but this could be a problem in cramped quarters. Overall, I would recommend this for any XBOX 360 owner.

With the release of the SDK version 1.7 (which includes Kinect Fusion), there are so many possibilities for creating amazing demos and applications that would have seems like science fiction only a few years ago. I've had a lot of fun experimenting and would recommend this product to any developer looking to explore new methods of interaction and visualization.

This is the first Kinect game besides "kinect sports" that I thought was very well done. What must be said about this kinect game is that the programers are finally figuring out how to make character navigation work for the controller free setting. The character movements in this game are SOOOOOOOOO much fun. Running/walking/climbing, its all very well done (unlike the ridiculous navigation in Disneyland Adventures). For this you simply swing your arms (just as you are actually walking) and turn your body to move. Also, the car racing portion is the best vehicle controls that I have used, and they are actually quite effective (I was very disappointed with the driving controls for "Joy Ride". This title is clearly geared for younger crowds, but my wife and I REALLY enjoy playing it, being the pixar fans that we are. The graphics are great, and the voice overs are VERY true to character. Game play is not as repetitive as I had expected it to be, we keep finding more and more things you can do like actually bending over to swim under the water and find more secrets! Anyone who loves Pixar or simply wants a game that makes great use of Kinect's possibilities, I do not think will be disappointed. This game has shown me there is great things to come for Kinect, and other designers will learn from the the excellent tracking and controls in this game...

We bought this game and were so excited to play it.The first time we pooped the CD in, we knew we had made a mistake.The game has good graphics but that is just not enough to create a good game. The story line is thin. The chases are ...yaawwn...boring!Above all, the controls are not smooth and transitions are very poor. For example, in a middle of a chase, huge pits'd open up that you cannot see beforehand. If you try to control the wheel, your car will move either too quickly or too slowly.In a few other episodes, like the Incredibles, the movements are so jerky and confusing that you can jump 10 times and the sensor still doesn't recognize it as a jump.Overall, this is a classic Microsoft and Disney fiasco that looks great on paper but doesn't live up to expectations (Vista, Zune and Windows Phone anybody).Mindless crashes and bomb explosions don't make a good game.

I bought this game for my 3 and 7 year old children for Christmas. Now almost two months later they are still loving it. Very intuitive game play- my 3 year old is able to easily navigate through the levels. It is a great work-out as well. There is lots of bonus content to unlock which keeps the game interesting even after playing all the levels. We also like the side by side 2 person simultaneous play option. Overall my family is very happy with this game.

This game actually makes great use of the kinect function. In this game you can actually move around and control where your player goes, rather than many games you are either being moved along by a river or a conveyor belt or something and can just jump or lean to one side or the other. There are lots of different games within each cartoon and the kids love playing their familiar pixar movie characters.

I may be a little too old for it or something, because I'm not very good at this game, but my 7 year old daughter plays this game like ringing a bell.Excellent game to get kids up off the couch and running around without them even realizing.

After using Kinect for a while I decided to review it. It is very fun to play xbox games with Kinect. although games are a little pricey it is worth it. I haven't use my game controller in a while. I only use Kinect now. I'm not a hardcore gamers.

The Kinect itself is a great way to entertain younger cousins when they come over instead of having to play rated m games because that is all we have. The three games that came with it are fortunately or unfortunately probably the best three Kinect games available now. Kinect Adventures is very dynamic and takes pictures of you making a fool of yourself, which is awesome. Gunstringer's indy style feel is creative, it is a little difficult though as it is hard to raise one arm and keep another steady for long intervals. Fruit Ninja is by far the best out of the three and has provided my friends and I hours of entertainment. If your looking to get the Kinect for excercise I would say go for it, I have to sit down every few rounds of Fruit Ninja because it is absolutely exhausting if you play it right.I am disappointed in that this isn't well supported by a list of good games, $150 was probably a little too high to pay for something like this because of all the gimmicks and the constant need to readjust the sensor for different games.

The Kinect sensor is really the best sort of sensor there is for any of the motion-like games. It is fairly accurate in determining the body parts of a person, and gives users a new sort of interface with the Xbox 360 (ie. voice control, hand movements that allows easier access to the dashboard, etc.) If you really love technology, I ask you to really test this product.I do suggest that you have some space to move around in your home/room when purchasing this, in order to get the best features from the product.
