Hi again!I have waited awhile to write this review because as much as I really like the device and the new layer it brings to my gaming experience, I cannot help but feel slightly underwhelmed by the selection of games available that fit my tastes. One previous reviewer had mentioned something about making this type of purchase in the hopes that future games and features will justify it. I can now relate. But before I get to that let's talk about setup and ease of use.SETUP the DeviceIf you have an Xbox 360 slim all you have to do is plug the power cord into the Xbox and complete the initial configuration setup. For those who have an older Xbox 360 (white,Arcade,Pro) don't worry, you can enjoy Kinect as well with the included adapter that comes in the box. Regardless of how you set up the device, it will operate the same.Once I setup the hardware I was ready to start navigating the new Metro Style tiles with both my hand and voice. My younger sister and I have really enjoyed the voice commands as they can make for some very fast navigation. The hand gestures are very responsive as well, though I do feel like there is a bit of a rhythm that one needs to find in order for the process to work smoothly. That's okay though, as when the Kinect is powered on there is a prompt in the right hand corner of your screen that will keep you updated on what your Kinect is doing. Very useful!SETUP your LIVING ROOMNow this proved to be a bit more of a challenge. Without a doubt the Kinect is going to get you up off the couch and provide its fair share of laughs, but in order to truly appreciate all that it can do you must have SPACE. It is critical that you have a space in which furniture can easily be moved that will give you a clearance of 6 to 10 feet. I suggest sliding some paper plates under the couch or coffee table to assist you with the move and to protect your back from heavy lifting.INCLUDED GAMESOnce you are in the clear the fun can begin and the three included games are a great start to any collection. Kinect Adventures! is a single or mutliplayer activity game that prompts you to use your entire body to jump, kick, steer, swim, and float around the screen. Your heart rate WILL go up as you and your friend complete the adventures. My sister and I really liked seeing the silly action shots that Kinect takes during gameplay. Our most favorite game out of the bunch is definitely Fruit Ninja Kinect.***(Please note that both this game and The Gunstringer are digital downloads. This means that instead of receiving a physical CD like Kinect Adventures, the bundle comes with two redeemable tokens which you must enter into Xbox Live to begin the download process. It is extremely important that you enough storage space on your Xbox to hold both of them at any given time. The beauty of a digital download is that when you want to play you do not have to go to the shelf and grab the CD. Just use the Kinect voice commands or motion controls to launch and you are on your way!)***Back to Fruit Ninja, lol, it is just a lot of fun. Your arms act as giant swords which you use to slice fruit that is tossed up on the screen. The game provides built in challenges and time trials but the best is when you and a friend are side by side attempting to slice fruit together. Kinect even recognized my sisters leg as a sword when she used a high kick to slash a pear into pieces. Like a said, it is our favorite game of the three and we even got Mom and Dad to jump in and play as well.Looking towards the future.I started the review by speaking about my overall satisfaction with the product but noted a slight feeling of disapointment. That has a lot to do with the TYPE of game that I am looking to play. I am 23 years old. Typically I enjoy games like Halo Reach, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Batman: Arkham City. In my opinion, the Kinect library of titles is still catering to a family or younger audience. That is why my particular disapointment might not apply to most people reading this review. Instead, the titles I am looking forward to enjoying like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Mass Effect 3 have yet to be released. So, while I am content with the games so far, I will not be fully satisfied until more mature titles are released. In the meantime, I have had fun using the voice and motion navigation, playing Dance Central with my girlfriend and Fruit Ninja with Paige. I think most people reading this review will find a lot of enjoyment as well.Thank you for reading and please leave a comment if I can be of any further assistance,Sean**Be sure to download the free Kinect Labs for more Kinect fun as well as all the free demos available via Xbox Live! A great alternative to going out and buying more games right away!

When Sesame Street: Once Upon A Monster wasn't in stock, my son chose this game instead. He is three and a half. We love playing video games together, but his hands aren't ready for teh XBOX controller. We play Dance Central and Kinect Star Wars. However, we had grown frustrated with Kinect Star Wars as it didn't do a good job of detecting my son. He had to keep signing in again, and it was a two-step sign in process (step forward plus raise your hand). We had played a demo of Once Upon a Monster where the game easily detected new players and all you had to do was wave. But I had read excellent reviews of the playability of this game on Amazon, so we went ahead with the purchase of Kinect Rush.My first criticism is the LONG setup process. A kid can't just jump into the action - they first have to choose their gender, their color, and get scanned in (a painful process!). Repeat for the next player! We got stuck in this area and my son learned a few new vocabulary words. I could have done it on my own (and did), but convincing him to do it himself (Kinect gets confused when parents jump in to help the kids get their hands in position) was mind-bogglingly difficult.Once we were in the game together, I couldn't run. He could run around, but I got stuck in place, moving my arms & legs and going nowhere. Pretty soon I gave up, especially since the game had forgotten who I was and stuck me in the same "default" boy outfit my son was wearing (way to confuse us). He finally found his way into "Incredibles" land, and my character popped in too, where we promptly got stuck and frustrated by the puzzle. You see, if only one person of the two can understand how to do the puzzle, unlike other Kinect games designed for kids, you get stuck because you have to wait for the other person to grasp it. And, since moving around the screen was so difficult (more difficult than I've seen in any other Kinect game with absolutely NO guidance), we didn't get far. To top it off, an annoying little girl kept telling us we were taking too long. What I did eventually is go upstairs to rant to my spouse about this. However, my son called me down to play with him, at which point we shut the game off, and downloaded Once Upon a Monster. We also wished we could return the game desperately, especially after finding out Amazon is selling it for half the price we paid for it. (If you are going to buy this poorly-made game, buy it here on Amazon.)It makes me so angry when people make a game for young children that is difficult to play or control. Kinect games especially should make it easy for new players to join in without a hassle. If a game developer can't figure out how to build things in the Kinect interface, then they should stick to the Joystick! I can't believe game testers didn't come across these issues, and it would have been good to test the game on your target audience. If even the adults are throwing up their hands and leaving the room (both experienced gamers who have played a number of other Kinect games and have been playing on consoles since the Atari 2600), then how is a kid supposed to figure it out? I am so disappointed that this product got to use Pixar's good name.

The Kinect has been out for a while and I've been an Xbox 360 owner since the console came out. Although one of my friends was a beta tester and got a free Kinect unit for testing it, he couldn't convince me that it was worth it. Afterall, I was one of the early adopters for the Wii and nearly every game I got for it was a disappointment except for games like The Legend of Zelda and Wii Sports.Because of my bad experience w/ the Wii (and the Sony PS3 Move), I still couldn't fathom that the Kinect would provide me with an experience that was worth the price. From a pricing standpoint, it did seem cost effective (lack of additional "remotes", no need for batteries, no potential cause of the remote flying out of your hand) but still... how much better could the Kinect be? Surprisingly, much better than I had thought.I bought the Kinect primarily for my fiance because she recently had a run in with Just Dance games at her parents' home a couple months before Christmas. She claimed she loved the dance games and asked if she could have the Kinect for Christmas. I told her "maybe" and I was on the fence, but I justified buying it since it was a present to her. I figured if it sucked, I wouldn't see it as a bad purchase since it counted as one of her presents. So let me tell you that after just a week and a half of owning the Kinect, this thing is already worth the purchase and simply blows the Wii & the PS3 Move out of the water. My reasons are below...Pro #1 - The Motion Recognition: The fact that it detects multiple people, calibrates easy, and doesn't require an additional remote per person makes it a technological marvel. I like how it detects whole body movements rather than just the physical location of a "wand" like the other consoles. Because of this, it gives you a wider range of movement which in turn, allows games to be much more involved & immersive.Pro #2 - The Price: The Kinect retails for around $150 MSRP w/ 1 game but the price I got it for on Amazon (new) was just $99. That included the game bundle of Kinect Adventures and two downloadable codes for Fruit Ninja and Gunstringer. Two bonus games plus a $50 price drop? Kinect Adventures retails for $49 and Gunstringer for $39. Add the two together, you're paying $11 for Fruit Ninja and the sensor. Consider me sold.Pro #3 - The Games: Aside from the games I received in my bundle, luckily Xbox Live allows you to download a nice handful of demos. I think I got around 10 to test with to really see how the Kinect plays. Many of them were much more involved and responsive than that of the other consoles. Most importantly, they were fun. One of my favorites, despite not being a fan of the genre, is Dance Central 2 (the game I selected for my fiance). This game is actually quite fun despite the fear of looking "goofy" doing some dance moves to popular songs. I can only expect games get better with time.Pro #4 - Xbox Live Dashboard Integration - Games aside, this is probably the MOST useful feature of the Kinect. I know that the integration wasn't always this deep, as I remember several XBL updates occuring over the past year for improved Kinect functionality. I just wasn't aware of what kind of functionality they were implementing until I actually used my Kinect. The fact of the matter is, you no longer need a controller at all to navigate around the Xbox 360. Everything from playing a game to dashboard navigation to running apps, settings, etc is all voice integrated. For the past week and a half, my Xbox controller has been collecting dust. Being an ESPN 3 & Netflix user (as well as other available apps on my Xbox 360), everything can be controlled with just the simple command of "Xbox... ". Nothing is more awesome than saying "Xbox... Apps... Netflix... Next List... Play 4" and it plays your favorite movie or TV show on Netflix. Stop, Next Episode, Previous Episode, Fast Forward, Rewind... it's all there. If you were to tell me that this kind of functionality was available a year ago, I would have thought you were crazy. That's like Star Trek functionality. So I have a "voice remote" for my Kinect that costed me $99. I think the voice feature alone is worth at least $50 standalone. The Kinect is one of the best accessories you can get for the Xbox 360. If you've been waiting and are still on the fence, I suggest you just pull the trigger and buy it now. The games are fun, the technology is great and will only get better. Kudos Microsoft, you never cease to amaze me.

This is my 8 year old daughter's favorite game! She bought it with her Christmas money and is always begging me to play it. It has so many aspects that make it stand out as a really good game and very few downfalls. The game starts off allowing you to make your own player. It uses the Kinect camera to scan you and make a player with similar features and cloths, this made my daughter feel more involved in the game over a standard avatar, although the players face didn't look all that much like her. After you make your character the real fun begins. You enter the Pixar park on a "field trip". From here you get to explore the park. There's an area for each of the movies and a child that greets you and goes over what the level entails. When you choose your level there's a quick video prologue that gives you an overview of the mission and goal. Each movie has multiple levels you unlock as you beat them. At the end of level there's another fun video wrapping it all up.The levels are all different and your child gets to walk, run, swim, slide, climb and row though the level (I'm sure I'm forgetting a few). There are objects you may have to pick up to use or things to jump and grab. Each level is fun, but easy enough for little ones. There's always an arrow showing you where to go, so there's never any confusion. If you get stuck and can't figure out what to do after a few minutes a screen will pop up asking if you want to skip that part of the level. You can run into walls, fall through holes and do anything that in most games you'd lose a life for, but in this game you keep on moving. This really prevents my daughter from getting frustrated. She can play it independently and I feel she gets some pretty good exercise in while playing. Much better than watching TV!The only downfall of this game I can see is how it describes what action you're supposed to do. The level starts and then a small cartoon character appears showing you what you're supposed to do, like how to move your arms to swim. It does this AFTER you've already started though, so on a few levels my daughter was so focused on getting started, so never really got the action mastered. Like on the Cars level she wasn't able to control the car like she should've been. I would prefer if there was a demonstration before the level and the sensor makes sure the action is preformed correctly before starting the level. On that note, the sensor occasionally doesn't seem as responsive as with some other games. But, it hasn't hindered game play because of the not dying or being penalized aspect. I've noticed her having to jump a few times before it registers occasionally. I still think the game is worth 5 stars though and am very impressed with the price!

First off, I just spent several months writing a book about programming the SDK for the Kinect Sensor for Windows -- so I'm invested rather deeply in the technology. In that regard, please take what I say with a grain of salt.My regrets to those who purchased the sensor without knowing what they were getting into. The upside is that since these sensors keep selling out, you can very quickly recoup your money by selling it on ebay. There is no shortage of people who want it.What the Kinect for Windows hardware provides is an inexpensive device (even at $249.99) for streaming depth images and gathering skeleton data (physical location and orientation of joints), as well as a sophisticated directional microphone array. Combined with the Kinect for Windows SDK (the libraries Microsoft has created to work with all this data) and a decent developer, you can create applications that do facial detection, motion detection, skeleton detection, green screening (like for Star Wars), gesture tracking (like Minority Report), and more. It's an incredible amount of power in a small package. What we do with all this power is unclear. It's almost pure potential at this point. You can, however, go over to sites like [...] and see some of the concepts people are coming up with. All of that was done with hacked software and a version of the Kinect sensor designed to be plugged into an Xbox. The Kinect sensor for Windows (along with the Kinect for Windows SDK -- free to download), on the other hand, is a commercial product meant to be used for commercial products. This is Microsoft's first rev of a commercial/non-gaming product based on Kinect technology. Some of us in the developer and design communities feel it marks a transformation in how we interact with computers. Over the next year, we will begin to see these sensors in store windows, in airports, in high-end retail locations -- basically in many places outside of our living rooms -- providing exciting and hopefully helpful experiences for the consumer. The people currently picking up these sensors are mostly product developers building tools for these scenarios. We who have been working with the technology also hope that some brilliant entrepreneur will develop a use case for the home -- maybe advanced communication software or home automation software -- that will propel sales of the device and make it desireable for your basic consumer rather than software developers and product engineers to start picking them up. There's no knowing at this point though, and even Microsoft doesn't know how it will turn out.On the other hand, they have made an investment in pushing this technology forward and have expended quite some effort in creating the commercial-ready software we will be using to develop for it and I'm grateful for that.If you aren't a developer, this is probably not the time to start buying these sensors. Wait for a killer app to come along that takes advantage of Kinect. If you are a developer learning the Kinect, you can get away with using the Kinect sensor for Xbox if you already have one. This sensor is for people who are using the Kinect for Windows SDK and are ready to start making products or need to start showing their Kinect ideas to investors -- or simply are putting up art installations in public spaces. It's for the people who are ready to start redesigning the future. It's obviously not going to be for everyone, though. Not yet anyways.

As an avid Xbox player, I saw the idea of someone having their body as the controller as genius BUT I was skeptical. With most new ideas/technology, it's best to be wary at first and let it work the kinks out before making the plunge in purchasing it. Also note that this is a review of Kinect with Kinect Adventures, Fruit Ninja, and Gunstringer games; although this review will focus mainly on the Kinect.PREVIEW: I initially tested the Kinect at a friend's house and was blown away by how cool it was. The sensor is pretty sensitive though and will detect any extra people in view. People kept on walking in front of the sensor and the game had to continually reload the avatars playing. Also, the back edge of the playing field hit the couch and sometimes people's legs would be picked up throwing everything off. I lost a very important golf match (in Kinect Sports) because the Kinect kept on picking up on something else (everyone had moved off the couch) and not recognizing my body movements (swinging through even though I hadn't moved an inch) - which I'm assuming is the game's fault rather than the Kinect.LOCATION: Now, when I tested the Kinect, I was in a large living room. I now have my recently purchased Kinect in my bedroom (11 x 12 feet with furniture along all the walls). Unfortunately, before I got the wall mount, I did not have enough room to play in the "Great" space making it kinda difficult to be recognized. Also, even when I selected "Good" it would shift me into "Great", therefore forcing me to run into furniture and closet doors.GENERAL: Overall, the Kinect is AWESOME. The idea behind it is amazing and it seems to work pretty well at picking up who you are (and differentiating between different players). For those playing Kinect Adventures, I did notice that general movements are picked up but specific movements like fingers movements are not. It's as if your avatar is a doll and while it mirrors your movements, it obviously cannot scratch its head without looking silly. I have noticed sometimes that it won't pick up on some of my movements (like in the Kinect game where you dodge, duck, and jump)...a couple of times I would jump and my avatar wouldn't respond. That is a rare occurrence though.PICTURES: The idea of the Kinect taking pictures of me (especially in my bedroom) makes me nervous, so normally I will disable the option to take photographs and turn of the sensor when not in use.GAMES INCLUDED: While the Kinect Adventures is a must have game, the Ninja Fruit and Gunstringer are simply ridiculous. The Ninja Fruit game consists of chopping at fruit but not bombs and that's it. While initially fun, it gets boring quickly. Gunstringer is almost ALL video sequence and barely any type of interaction. The interaction that you do have (like shooting at things with your fingers) is barely anything is mostly automated on the slightest movement - not worth it.CONCLUSION: This is a MUST-have addition to the Xbox console. All of the games make you get off your rump and move for some fun! It gets your heart racing and tricks you into exercising without even realizing it - very smart. It's a great way for families to bond or for singles to workout or just have fun. Make sure you have PLENTY of clear and open space to move around as 6-10 feet away from the sensor is a must. I definitely recommend mounting it on the wall up and out of the way for a more accurate "sensing" on the Kinect's part. This blows the Wii out of the water. Their sensor actually SEES you rather than you doing a movement and the sensor missing it (Wii).

Firstly, this game is hilarious, brilliant, so much fun for all ages, especially if you are a fan of Pixar, BUT and you knew it was coming, only if your Kinect is set properly. We tried to get this working for my 5 year old who isn't very tall and after an hour of frustration no one wanted to play as we couldn't get recognized - there is a part at the start where they give you a silhouette to stand in, and when you're positioned right it turns green and you get added, well, my daughter wasn't even close to the silhouette shape and would have had to grow about 6 feet taller to ever make it. So, we checked and the green light on the Kinect sensor was on, so we knew it was connected and working, but then we noticed the angle it was pointed at, which was basically up to the ceiling, so we used the Kinect tuner and it recognized me as an adult and we thought all was OK, but the sensor was still pointed at the ceiling, so only seeing the adults from the knees up and not seeing little kids at all.In comes Google, and we found out you can manually (via the Xbox controller NOT BY HAND!)adjust the tilt angle on the Kinect sensor - so when you run the Kinect set up through your Xbox and get to the part where it is seeing the play area and player, if it isn't seeing your feet like ours was you will see at the bottom of the instructions panel "ADJUST ANGLE" and then you can choose that and click up and down. This may seem simple to an Xbox uber fan, but we just got ours and didn't know we could do this.NOW, the angle has been tilted down, it sees everyone, no matter how tiny they are and the game was set up and playing in less than 5 minutes and my 5 year old loves it.So in short, this game is as awesome as everyone says, but you need to check the angle on your Kinect if it just isn't seeing you at all - and check for the green light on the front too - apparently sometimes Kinect sensors will simply die, but more often than not when you think the game sucks because it doesn't see you, it really isn't seeing you due to angle! This and the Disneyland game are so much better now we adjusted it right!

Microsoft has really made a comeback in the realm of innovation. When I first played the Kinect for XBOX in 2010, I was amazed at how a device like this exists, when you can control almost anything with just your gestures. Something like this could probably replace the computer mouse. What I like about the Kinect for Windows is that it is truly a product of the future designed for today. If you watch a lot of superhero film, particularly from Marvel Comics, you'll probably see a lot of technology like this on their computers in the films and not even realize it actually exists in real life. After watching one, I always loved the idea of controlling my computer with just gestures. It can be pretty cool and pretty fun. What I dislike is that Microsoft has no official software for this unit to allow motion-sensing or gesturing on Windows 7. These devices are really designed for developers to make their own software. So, if you're like me and not a software developer you may find it hard to find software already made to run this unit. You find downloadable software (usually at a cost) that can run with this. I used Kinemote Free Software. Using gesturing with this device can be quite cumbersome, as it cannot always detect your hands when navigating through Windows. You may suffer arm fatigue pretty soon after using this for a few seconds. Its a great idea but this thing has a while before it can replace a mouse. It needs some adjustments.I recommend this device to developers primarily because this is a device that you can use to write your own hand gesture software.I still give it 4 out of 5 because no one else has come up with something this close yet for the consumer like Microsoft. A- for effort!

Right off the bat this game's setup was frustrating, but it was the first kinect game we tried to let our son play. So it was going to be a learning curve. The only bad things I have to say about this game is that the initial setup will probably take 10+ minutes, and when you play multi-player, little kids clicking all over the place can be a headache and take a while to get started. When setting this game up, the best thing to do is crouch behind your child and set it up for them, same with multi-player, just stand behind them otherwise it will be a headache. My child comes home from school begging to play this game. Today alone he's put in 5 hours on it. He loves it. It's amazing to watch how much he's progressed in the two weeks he's been playing it. Not only is he getting a good amount of physical activity but he's getting faster and faster at solving puzzles. And as the child clears new levels, new levels are granted, so he's still getting new levels to play at this point.Tip - take something like painter's tape and make a rectangle on your floor where the sensor wants the child to stand, and split it into two boxes so two players know where to stand. After a few days of reminding my son to stand in the box, he's got it down and we're slowly taking chunks of tape off.I love this game. Bought it when it was $20 but I still would have been happy to pay the $40 for it. It's amazing.

Bought this for my Grandson on it's release date, after reading the previews. I will begin, by saying they do a fantastic job of immensing you into the world of Pixar and their movies. First thing that happens, is it creates you as a Pixar character, by scanning you in, and uses a little trick to duplicate the color of your clothing, into each of your characters attributes. The next thing I would like to mention, is unlike the other Disney Kinect title, this one seems alot easier for the younger ones to get going in the game, making the menu navigation much more responsive and easier to navigate through, which is great. The attention to graphics is also incredible, as the game is being played, you actually fel like you are watching a Pixar movie. The concept of the game is quite simple, your character (A Child), is dropped at a Pixar camp, which you can freely roam around in, stopping and meeting other children in the park, all which will stop and give you their take on what part of the park they enjoy the most. Next you can walk your Pixar into any of the five movies represented in the game, where you will be greeted by another child, who explains to you, what your adventure will entail, from racing your car in Cars, to saving a friend Rat in Ratatouile. Once in the chosen story, you become part of the story, while getting encouragement from all the favorites from the movies, you cannot die or lose a life in the story, you simply just start back from where you were if you happen to fall, and if after a few attempts of not completing an objective, it will even ask, if you would like to skip that task. My grandson is 4, and this game is bar far his favorite of the many that we own, because he actually is able to complete each mission he has tried, some seem to take a little longer, but he has never lost the ambition to make it all the way through, unlike has happen in some of the others he has tried. I myself have played along with him, and must say it is rather entaining, and very responsive of picking up your motions, and translates them well into the game. I would recommend this title to anyone with a child 8 or under, or even if you are just a fan of Pixar. It is $50.00 well spent, and I can only hope that they continue to support this title with some DLC, (Monster Inc, Bugs Life and maybe some Nemo), would be great additions. To sum this up, if your reading this review, it's because your are showing some interest in this title, stop reading now, and buy this game, your child/grandchild will love it..

I'm not a fan of things Microsoft, or video games for that matter - but this technology rocks my world.Over the last few years, I've been trying to live a healthier lifestyle through diet and exercise. the diet was woking, but the exercise...not so much. I'm a flabby guy in my 50's, and the sedentary life was just too appealing to let go.Then I watched a demo of the Kinnect, and had an opportunity to try it out at a friend's house. What a gas! (plus I worked up a major sweat)The very next day I started searching for the best deals. In December, 2011, Amazon was selling the Xbox 360, the Kinnect and some of the games I wanted for some very low prices. It was a better deal then to buy the two separately. I also bought the "Dance Central 2" and "Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012" games.I'm spending at least an hour almost every day using my Kinnect. I mostly rotate between the Fitness and Dance games. "Fruit Ninja", "Kinnect Adventures" and "Gunstringer" are fun too, but they don't give me the full body workout I want.I don't like gyms, my neighborhood isn't the safest for walking and I didn't want to spend thousands on equipment that I probably would get bored with - but with the Kinnect I actually look forward to my daily workouts. The colorful backgrounds, the music - the gestalt of the setup appeals to me. And it's really starting to show!I've gone down a pants size, my stamina has increased threefold, I'm sleeping better, plus my wife has noticed a marked improvement in my outlook on life. I would never have dreamed that a video game setup could make my life better. If you get a Kinnect system, you will need to spend a bit of time tweaking it (and your room) to get it the best possible experience. Plus you really need a pretty big space AND a big TV screen to make the best use of it. (A good surround sound system is also a plus) I probably spent an hour a day for a week adjusting lights, furniture, Kinnect positioning, software controls etc... before I got the thing to track accurately. Now I can get the room ready in about minute. It's well worth your time to experiment so you can have the best experience. It's also important to have good shades on your windows - the Kinnect doesn't work well in direct sunlight.Gym memberships cost around $45 month here. Add another $50 if you want a trainer or classes. By that measure, my new system will have paid for itself by next month - plus I'm getting all the benefits of a fun daily workout. The only downside is that the darn thing is so much fun that I forget to stop sometimes - and I pay for it later with sore limbs and joints. That's my fault, not the machine's.

We gave this game to our 4 yr old about a week ago and he has been playing it non-stop. He's able to navigate through the menus and the levels by himself, though the Kinect won't recognize his voice. It's a pretty active game as you have to actually run through almost every level. The idea behind the game is you are visiting a theme park with a different land for each of the movies (Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars, Toy Story, and Up). Each land has 3 levels and the story between each level is only loosely tied together. Ratatouille, Toy Story, Up, and Incredibles are all very similar in mechanics and strategy. It's disappointing the game has such poor recognition using the Kinect. I think the first Kinect games such as Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports do a better job with motion recognition. My kid doesn't seem to mind, though, and navigates through the levels anyway. The Cars levels were very well done and driving using the Kinect is pretty easy.Oh, also the menu structure to start the game is irritating. It's fun that the game uses the Kinect to scan you and create a character that looks kind of similar to your actual appearance, but it asks too many questions before letting you play the game. Each level is pretty short and we've pretty much unlocked everything on each level, which requires several playthroughs, though I don't imagine my kid will get tired of the game quickly.

The Kinect is an interesting product, fun to use, and simple to set up. The current software and user interface experience, however, leave a bit to be desired. I still think the Kinect has tons of untapped potential, and look forward to future updates and new software for it.I purchased the Kinect for my parents for Christmas. I wouldn't have expected them to ask for a Kinect of all things, but they did. After opening the Kinect on Christmas, I helped them to set it up. It was simple enough - plug the Kinect into the Xbox 360's USB ports, then go through the set up process, which involves a bit of standing, listening to audio clips, and hand-waving. Although it took a few minutes, it wasn't overly complicated. What was tedious (although not a technical fault of the Kinect hardware) was redeeming the long codes and downloading the games that come with the Kinect. My parents have a decent internet connection, but the downloads were still a bit slow - probably due to the number of people downloading the same software on Christmas morning! After the setup, we were on our way. We had plenty of fun with games like Wipeout (which didn't seem all that intuitive and was a bit difficult to control, in my opinion) and Fruit Ninja (which worked great and provided a great majority of the fun!).Controlling the dashboard interface with the Kinect was an interesting experience, and where the true potential of the product really lies. Of course, the experience was not without its own issues. For example, to notify the Kinect that you will be issuing voice commands, you must say "Xbox! (Your voice command)". From experience, if there is cross-talk or other noise in the room, or your voice is not assertive enough, the Kinect will not recognize your commands. Like the voice control, using hand gestures to navigate the dashboard is hit-or-miss. The Kinect sensor must recognize your hand (you have to hold it up for a short amount of time), and the sensitivity of the cursor in relation to your hand movement does not feel very natural. Further, the cursor must be kept over an icon for a small amount of time before it will register as a "push" or "click" of the icon. It always seems like it takes forever when the cursor is hovering over your intended target, but it feels like nanoseconds when you accidentally hover over an icon you don't want.Overall, I think the Kinect is a worthy product. While the games and software released for the Kinect are currently a bit..."lacking", in opinion, only time will tell if Microsoft is able to tap into the true potential that the Kinect unit has. The Kinect is a solid purchase, despite some flaws, and I would recommend it.

As a long time Xbox and Wii gamer I looked at the Kinect with some trepedation based on my experience with the Wii. Was this going to be another system with terrible tracking, lame or kiddie-only games? Fortunately, Kinect definitely impresses with both its tracking and its assortment of games. Some say that Kinect can't see you well, but in my house where I use Kinect (this was the second one I purchased and we use it in two rooms) I have excellent tracking. The key is lighting and range. I made sure to turn on lights all around us, not just a lamp in front of us or above us, and made sure that the Kinect was up on top of the TV or on a shelf above the TV and moved back from the Kinect about 10 feet. When you set it up like this you will get excellent range and tracking. The only time I have trouble is when I swap out for one of my kids and Kinect has to try to find them because they are so much shorter. The only time I have face recognition trouble is when I only have a lamp on above me. Otherwise this works great.Kinect also has a great mic. Now that Xbox has gone through its big upgrade this last week, we use Kinect to search things by just speaking what we want it to look for. We also use it to control apps, like ESPN, where it can be used as a Tivo-like controller but with your voice, "Xbox pause" and "Xbox play." There has been two times when my wife and I were watching Netflix and some combination of what the actors on the screen said cause the Kinect to think we commanded it to fast forward. When we replayed that moment on the show it did it again. So something the actors said, even though it wasn't "Xbox fast forward" triggered the response. The games for Kinect are awesome. You have the kid games, which our kids love, but you also have real sport games. I loved bowling for Wii, but Kinect Sports Season One and Two are way better in the game options and tracking. Ping Pong is a great example where Kinect watches and tracks you as the game gets tougher and faster without trouble. This package comes with Fruit Ninja, which is a blast! Use your arms to slice the fruit avoiding the bombs. Two players can go at the same time. (If you didn't buy this pack but already have a Kinect, Xbox Live has a DLC of Fruit Ninja for $10.) Adventures is almost an excersize game in that it makes you use so many muscles and endurance is a major part of the games included. At the same time the games are a blast.Kinect is a game changer. It's not a wand like PS3 or Wii, works way better tracking, has voice controls and a bunch of top notch games. Perfect for Christmas or anytime. Highly recommended.

Bought it new. The codes still worked for both fruit ninja and gunslinger. Everything was with it. Note: You must have sufficient room to play with. At least 6ft. of space between you and the kinect/t.v. for it to recognize you and at least another 3-4ft. behind you for calibration and play purposes. Have at least another 4ft. around you in diameter for you to play kinect adventure that comes with it. Kinect Adventures makes you move around a lot. You can turn off the sensor when it's not in use. It can recognize your face if you set it up to do so. It can take voice commands to sign you in/ turn on your xbox etc... You can also chat through it like a microphone but it might echo a bit on other players TVs because it can sometimes hear your TV when chat is turned on. Especially if you listen to loud music on it. The kinect isn't for people who are camera shy. Some games will take pictures of you jumping around having fun. You can send some of these pictures to other players if the game allows it if you want to. You have been warned. Have fun ;)
