Quick summary: Small, no remote, rear speaker length an issue, but good sound. The first thing that surprised me was how small the box with all 6 speakers (5 + bass) was. Unpacking the speakers was a little time consuming, but you only do that once, so no big deal. Everything's color coded for easy installation, so that was a plus.I was planning on using this with my Video/TV setup in the living room. But the biggest drawback was the length of the wires that are already attached to the speakers. For the rear speakers it's about 185" (a little over 15'). At least that's what mine measured. I couldn't find that specified anywhere - so I would be careful if this length is important. For me it was important because that length wasn't long enough. And I think for most living rooms that length won't be sufficient to really put the rear speakers behind the couch. But I ended up putting the rear speakers on the sides of the room, and it's actually not so bad. So I'm still using it with my TV. But like others have mentioned, the next drawback is the lack of a remote. It's quite clear these speakers are really targeted for PCs.Having mentioned all the drawbacks, I'd like to point out the pluses. I was surprised by the quality of sound. Very nice and crisp with adequate amount of bass. You have also 3 different types of inputs:1) RCA (Red and White),2) Headphone jack,3) 6-channel input. When the RCA is used, the sound only comes out of the 3 front speakers and bass. The rear speakers don't give out any sound. I thought it was busted until I played some music from a CD player through the headphone jack input. And then all 6 speakers give sound. I think this is intentional. The bass speaker is also the main speaker that takes all the different inputs and speaker wires. The right front speaker is special with a DB-9 connector and the volume control. The bass also has a bass level adjustment that worked well for me (I could get more than enough bass at the max setting - my setting is in the middle). So overall, I'm quite happy with this set and I still use it with the TV. But my rear speakers are not in the rear, and it's inconvenient without a remote. Other than that, I love it!
Going off of another reviewers comments, I went ahead and purchased these speakers for my new Flat Screen TV. If you are in a small room [10x12max] this works just fine. I say that because the wiring is actually set-up more-so for a PC than a flat screen and there is a limit to the wire length on the speakers designated to be placed in the back. Also a very important factor to consider. You will need buy a 3-way splitter for the wires going into the TV. I purchased mine at Radio Shack no problem. This is what you will need and you can order it here along with the speakers: (...)Without that adapter, your speakers will not work. All 3 [Yellow, Green, & Black] have to connect to the headset plug-in into your Flat screen when using that splitter. Sounds great for the price!
I was really excited to get these speakers because this is actually my first foray into 5.1 surround sound. After listening to some music and video games though, I have noticed a small, but annoying buzzing that was being emitted from the surround speakers -- specifically the back left and back rights. After some tinkering with volume levels and different cables I have gotten it to go down quite a lot using a higher end 1/8th to L/R audio cable. This leads me to believe that the main issue with the buzzing could be interference. Secondly, I feel like the the back left and right speakers do not really play a LOT of sound if you are not using a true surround sound setup or volume control. I was hoping for more of an "atmosphere" with the speakers. Alas, the speakers are not horrible though and sound great overall with my iPod, macbook and video games.Are/Were the issues enough to make me return the product? No.Are/Were the issues annoying? Yes.Personally, I am happy with the purchase overall, but I am disappointed in the sound issues that I encountered early on.Pro's:- Bass is great- Easy setup- Great for video games/moviesCon's:- Interference- The 1/8th cable that they give you is CRAP. Replace it right away.If you have the money, I suggest going a bit higher, but if you don't -- this isn't a horrible purchase, you may have to work at it though to get it to perform were you want it to.Some recommendations for the best sound:1. Replace the 1/8th cable that they give you right away. It is very shoddy and cut out a lot when I moved it in my headphone jack.2. Keep the main volume at around 40-50% to avoid major buzzing -- you can leave the bass blasting though.3. If you plan on simply using the headphone jack from your TV to hook it up to the system, I suggest a 1/8th to Red/White component cable.
I didnt even realize they MAKE this kind of stuff now a days without a remote control! it has not even a volume control, just a bass control.the pictures tend to make you think its big, but really everything is tiny. the speakers are the size of two fists roughly. this is a little crummy system that shouldnt cost a nickel over 20 bux!ive seen better ones at walmart for around 25 dollars, with remote controls too.
I say they're good speakers. It's not as loud as the more expensive speakers, but they do a good job for computer use and it's surround sound so they're just fine for an office or bedroom.
I bought these speakers to replace my old logitech thx speakers(brand new they were around $800). The price of the speakers with sound quality given is amazing. The buzz you hear from the speakers happened in my old ones too, it happens from time to time when I don't have anything in the background going, but the location of the sound volume control is convenient and not a big deal. I recommend this product for anyone who want middle quality speakers and sub-woofer for the price.
It sometimes sounds like the front left speaker has blown. I believe everything is set up correctly in Windows, and haven't turned it up extremely loud. Sound quality is average at best. Surround works, speaker wires were long enough to fit my set up, however I wish there was a way to mount them on a wall. I'm too lazy to return these, and too poor to buy a nicer set at the moment, however I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
After reading the reviews on this, I was skeptical, as a lot of people said they were very cheap sound quality. Well they sound great to me! I can't imagine paying $2000 for speakers that will be "old" in 5 years, so these are great! I recommend them!
I bought these speakers because I figured they were cheap and they had decent reviews (4 stars at the time) but then I get them and try listening to music and you hear a faint crackling when people talk on TV or certain loud parts of songs. It will drive you nuts. That is the main reason I'm returning them and not buying them again. Others reasons include short wires so you can't surround even a small room, not true 5.1 surround sound and a slight buzzing when not in use which I fixed by plugging the speakers directly into my wall socket. DO NOT BUY THESE HUNKS OF CRAP.EDIT: After TWO YEARS of having these things, they are truly amazing. They are meant for a computer and not a TV and I had to figure that out. I never appreciated the sound until I used my old speakers again then I was truly amazed by the sound quality of this product. You MUST plug these into your wall socket or you will get a slight buzzing.
It does price on the High side compared to other systems out there but once you hear this thing you won't be dissatisfied! I hooked this up for my son and his new flat-screen LED and played BF3. After about 5 min the wife bust in and asked " Why is it so loud?" and i told her that it was just 1/2 way "want to me to turn it up?". She was surprised how well this system work! well worth the money!
Amazon, So far my new speakers are everything i hoped for. Sound quality is great and when positioned correctly, have great surround sound!
I need technical support about this speakers...central and rear speakers not working//I searched web.. about my problem.. I could find same issue... from same buyers...Dear.. Logitech.. this company must give us technical support..However, price is cheap and base and front speaker is ok.. this is why I didn't return this speaker.Besides, again.. Logitech must listen to customer's voice.. Customers are complaining about this problem..
These are great speakers for what I need but I want to warn anyone whom buys them be careful opening the package as the sub woofer in the package has to be carefully removed otherwise you could puncture the speaker on the sub! That and they still have a very very mild static to them if their turned up... That might just be my system I'm not really sure! Other than that their awesome! great sounding as far as I don't have to turn them up really high and I can hear it almost on the other side of my house (about 60 feet away thru walls!) if your in the market for new speakers they're a really great buy! That and you can cross hook them to your TV's audio out while their connected to your PC!
These speakers sounded fairly nice when I got them plugged in to my PC. The sound quality wasn't amazing, but what do you expect for $82? After listening to music for about 15 minutes I decided to check out a youtube video that a friend forwarded to me. I figured that the video might have course language that I didn't want my dear mother to hear so I popped my headphones into the headphone jack on the speakers. Immediately I heard hissing and popping from my right headphone and when I removed the jack the computer speaker began to hiss and pop. Now that particular speaker produces no sounds other than hissing and popping. If I wanted to listen to complete crap I'd listen to Rebecca Black's 'Friday'.Logitech usually make good products, but I feel on these speakers they really dropped the ball in the quality control area.I've decided to return the product and go with Cyber Acoustics CA-5402 Platinum Series High Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Grey) which has received better reviews. My other gripes with the system have to do with the 3.5mm jacks that have the 90 degree elbow on them. They're almost impossible to get into the back of the computer and interfere with with the other inputs.I also tried the system with an ipod and an iphone in order to make sure it wasn't the fault of my PC. Cyber Acoustics CA-5402 Platinum Series High Performance 5.1 Speaker System (Grey)
I bought this a month ago because the sound quality on my flat panel was less than desirable, but I couldn't afford to sink money into a really excellent system just now. I started researching PC speakers and these seemed like a good deal. It is 5.1 surround, with a special center speaker that sits well on a flat panel monitor or TV. I think the sound is only OK now because I don't have it set up with the 5.1 sources, just right and left channel. It does well with those though! I think it would work nicely in a small office for great PC sound. I have a small living room and still needed to add more RCA cables. But after getting some extensions the system works well and I am able to dress the cables nicely so it looks tidy.I think this will work just fine for the next year before I can really invest in a better system for my TV. Once I do that I will probably use these in the office with my computer.
The Logitech surround sound system is a very good sound system. The sound quality is great including at a high volume. Bass was great for its size. All in all a great sound system especially for the price
Long and the short: These are pretty decent speakers, with ample bass and volume, but when no sound is playing they buzz and hum regardless of the input.Setup of the system is a breeze, place the speakers where you want them, run a wire from each of them to the subwoofer and connect the 3x 3.5mm jacks to the respective analog outputs on the computer. When I set up this sound system connected to my custom built PC, I immediately heard a humming noise coming from all speakers. It is a pretty low drone coming from each speaker but it is very distinct and clearly audible over the normal fan noise of my computer. My computer is built to be as quiet as possible so maybe that's why there's not a lot of reviews that mention this. At first I assumed it was my onboard sound that was getting interference from the computer itself. However, even with the input 3.5mm jacks disconnected, the same sound is present.Thinking there was something wrong with this particular set of speakers Amazon sent me out a replacement set. Pulled the subwoofer out of the box, hooked the front right speaker up (containing the power button and volume knob), and plugged it into the wall. Same noise. I've tried different outlets around the house and various power strips from an $10 strip to a $50 higher-end model. Same buzz, nothing connected. If you turn the volume knob all the way down it stops, but obviously no sound comes out of them at all at that point. As soon as you turn the knob up enough that your source audio would be barely audible, the hum comes back. It gets slightly louder if you turn the bass control up all the way but all my testing is with the bass at 30% or lower. That's the bad, but the good is the sound when you're listening to audio is good and the hum is unnoticeable. There's a bit of missing midrange, but good enough for a $90 streetprice set of 5.1 speakers.
After setting up (which wasn't too difficult) I ran a sound test and the regular ping sounds produced from the Windows 7 sound test program made evident an unexpected rattle/fuzz.As these speakers replaced a previous logitech system I was pretty sure this wasn't the product of something else rattling in sympathy but were coming from the actual speaker. So I picked one up so it was isolated and there is fuzzy sound something like a ripped cone or something.Examining the problem further I note the fuzz sound emits not only from the driven speaker but also from other speakers which leads me to suspect a problem with the amplifier.I shall be calling LogiTech Support about the problem.Anyway, overlooking this (somewhat major) problem the rest of the solution looks pretty good. The small ported speakers work well - the center speaker easily mounts on just about any monitor and the cables are plenty long enough for a typical installation.>>Addendum<>Further Addendum<
great set of surround set speakers for a PC. The cords are a little short for the rear speakers. If you want the rear speakers to be more than 8 ft away, get extension cables.
This is an entry level speakers, don't expect true surround sound unless you have 6 channel direct input setup. Sound is not clear enough; my 10 years old Altec speakers was better in sound clarity. Short wires can't surround even a small room, only have analog input and you will hear buzzing noise when not in use. Look for better 2.1 systems on the same price range.
Pros:Cheap75 watts can be a lot of sound in a small roomCons:No remoteSound is flat - does not have good highs/lowsSpeaker wire is short - unless you pay for connectors and additional wire, there is absolutely no way you can use these as a surround sound systemOn/Off switch and volume knob are on one of the speakersNo way to wall mount the speakers (this was a huge disappointment)SummarySave your money - there is a reason these speakers are $58. Take yourself out to a nice dinner or something. I was more impressed with the X-540 system that came out like 6 years ago than this garbage. Will NOT order another speaker system from Logitech.
I would give this product a 5 out of 5 however since the reason I purchased these was to replace my speakers for my laptop. This was all said and good however in order to get the full use of the speakers it did require me to get an external soundcard as well. However since I now have the sound card and the speakers up and running I could not be happier. All in all very good product.
SETUPPlug the cables into their color-coded spots, arrange speakers, adjust volume, enjoy. It's really that simple. I think getting them out of the box took the longest (each speaker was individually wrapped in a bag, each cable was wrapped -- the kind of packaging that keeps things protected in shipment but results in a bit of a long unpacking. big deal.)BUILD QUALITYThe subwoofer is strong and not overly large. But it's a subwoofer, so don't expect it to just disappear. The satellites are lightweight; sleek and small. The cables are pretty long -- and Amazon or Monoprice most likely have extensions if you need them.SOUND QUALITYI am impressed. These are replacing a pretty old but well-used Altec Lansing 2.1 computer speaker system. I didn't expect a 5 piece speaker set to do anything special with music, but the rear speakers had a great atmospheric quality -- little details in songs I've heard hundreds of times stood out.The only con I can say is that the vocals are a bit muddled in the mix, if that makes sense. Instrumental music sounds great, but unless you are sitting in the center of the soundfield, the vocals will get a bit lost. Not as bad as it could be, but noticeable. As for TV/Movie sound, I was more than happy considering that this is just a system that plugs in. I had a surround sound system with a decent Sony receiver a few years back and while this is clearly not going to compete with a full system, it worked really well as a substitute for our Samsung LCD speakers (which struggle to project in our living room which is not exactly square and 20'x20'). Despite the size of our room, the center, left, and right channels are great for dialogue and sound.I played some Borderlands on my XBOX 360 and just said WOW. I haven't played a video game with surround since the original Tomb Raider (ah, college). These speakers ROCK for gaming.OVERALL:These speakers exceeded my expectations. My needs are not the most demanding anymore, but I know what a good speaker sounds like. These are good!
I read all the reviews first and I guess the first thing I've learned is that you can't always trust glowing reviews. I've owned many 5.1 surround sound systems through the years and I thought this one would live up to the glowing reviews. Terrible sound for the money. Awful bass. But I had one of my Cyber Acoustics systems next to it and the difference was amazing. I returned it and got a CyberAcoustics instead. OH, I guess I should also mention, the Logitech system looks wonderful, very professional and the Cyber Acoustics I bought looks awful: clunky and low tech. So if you're looking for a good looking speaker, this Logitech system is the way to go. If you want good sound, however, you might look elsewhere.
I was looking for some good quality speakers with a good sub-woofer. I'm in college so I listen to music ALL the time. I looked and looked and finally decided upon these because of the many satellites and the 10" sub-woofer. I still can't believe the price I paid. These are worth far more than the cost. I've only had them a week and already have received many compliments. My room has already become a magnet for movie watchers because of the excellent sound quality these speakers provide. They look awesome and sound even better. Setup was a snap, you just plug the cords in and you're ready to go. If you want good quality for a good price, these are definitely the speakers you're looking for.
Boy was I excited when I received my brand new logitech z506 speakers. Little did I know they would cause me the lose of all my hair. These speakers spew out this irritating static abomination when there is no sound coming out of them. The only way to slightly subside the sound is to turn the speakers up all the way(don't ask me why). As I searched the internet I was suprised to find I was not the only one experiencing this problem. Obviously logitech is no longer of the quality I remember.
I just got the Z506 and few hours ago and i haven't stopped using them. Its just so clear/sexy and orgasmic to your ears. But in all seriousness it was simple to set up and its performance is really amazing and this is one of the best speakers that i have bought with the right price ever. So if you are lookin for cheap loud and good quality speakers this would be it.
I am a college student living in an on-campus dorm room. Needless to say, I do not have a large room for a set of speakers or a lot of cash to invest in them. This system, however, met my needs and surpassed my expectations. The price is ridiculously low for what you are getting.Sound quality: This system really sounds beautiful. I used to listen to my music and video games through stereo speakers. After listening to it surround sound, I was blown away by all the music I was missing. There were parts of songs that I just couldn't hear before in stereo. But with this surround sound system, everything sounds beautiful.Bass Power: Okay, the critics will win this one. The subwoofer does not have an enormous amount of power. But with my small room, I can definitely shake the doors and rattle the mirrors when it is playing. In a larger space, however, I am not sure you can get the same effect.Ease of use: I am pretty sure my aunt could hook this up by herself, and she is at least 65. Anyone who can differentiate between colors.Cord length: Again, this one will go to the critics. The cords are not very long, and for a large room, extension cords will definitely have to be bought. But for my small dorm, it works perfectly.Buzzing sound?: Some of the reviews on here talk about a buzzing sound. When the system is hooked up to my video game consoles through the A/V jacks, I never get buzzing. When I hook up something via the 3.5 mm headphone jack, however, I getting a slight buzzing sound when nothing is being played. It doesn't interfere with the music or sound effects you will be playing, but if silence is happening, you will get a slight buzz from the subwoofer.
I'm using Windows 7 With a Realtek HD 7.1 sound card. When setting up make sure your in the 5.1 setting. To get the max from your rear speakers if your sound card allows set the dB to(+10)left and right rear only. Front left and right speakers to (+0dB) and center speaker to (+10dB). Subwoofer to (+10dB).This should eliminate the hissing from the rear speakers and you should hear the music better, after that adjust the dB's to your sound liking. For me it works very well and the surround sound effect is great
The speakers sound pretty good for what I paid. My only concern is the very thin mesh covering (protecting) the cones. They seem to be made of butterfly wings or perhaps fairy eyelashes. If you have kids, which I have four of the boy kind, you might want to be sure these speakers are not just sitting there in the open, patiently waiting for an ill-aimed projectile to decimate its tender mesh hide. But like I said, they sound pretty good and for what I paid, I am pretty satisfied. I would recommend them to others. Just keep the Nerf guns put up, K?
This system produces a pretty good sound for the price paid. I bought these speakers for my dorm room at college and it does a very good job at giving me the quality of music I am looking for. The sub-woofer does create a slight feedback when no music is playing. However, that can be solved simply by turning the system off when not using. The description said that it had a 10" woofer but it only carries a 5.5" woofer. It still produces great sounding bass that you can feel. It is too loud when I have it on half the volume as I can hear it clearly 150 feet down the hallway at that level.
In terms of sound, these speakers are bumpin'--exactly what I wanted. I have been using them to throw nightly dance parties in my lofted apartment, and they deliver the volume and bass my apartment requires. The only thing that's challenging is that the small speakers are so light that they get knocked over easily.
I did not know what to expect from these speakers and they are fabulous. In fact, they give such a great bass, and claitity, I'm going to order two additional sets. These were a request from my son away at school for Christmas....and the dorm is rockin! Great product.
Length:: 2:05 MinsPerhaps I got a bum set. But these things were bogus right out of the box. my video tells all. My review is a warning to everybody that you should be prepared to return them. I've read that people have been on their third set just to get something that has less noise. When you crank music very loud through it I concider them to be fine. The sound good. If it wasn't for the nasty sound coming out of it I would have been happy with them. But as they stand now they are unacceptable and have painted how I feel about Logitech product. I've bought 5$ tiny little speaker sets that atleast didn't make a bunch of wacky noise.
I bought these to go with the new gaming/media computer I just built. The motherboard had built in 7.1 surround sound so I wanted to get some halfway decent speakers to take advantage of the capability. That seems to be just what I got. At normal volume, the speakers perform exactly as I had hoped, with one exception. There is an intermittent popping/crackling sound. I assume this is either a) interference from another device, b) a flaw in the speaker system (not shielded well enough, bad internal wiring, etc..) or c) loose connections/flaws on the motherboard. The old 2.1 desktop speakers I was using before never had any popping noises and I have just about, but not quite, tried moving/turning off everything in the room (including my Blackberry) so it seems to be leaning toward b).I still haven't hooked them up to another source because I don't have another source I can hook them up to and I need to try moving/turning off some other things, but until I find the source of the noise, I cannot recommend these. The sound that comes out of them is a huge improvement over my 2 speaker setup and you might want to take a chance that you will not have the same experience I am having.
Wow dont know what to say. It just arrive like 5 minutes ago, I tried to plug them, not a problem. I tested them with my music, my games. They're powerful and more than that actuallyThere was no problem at all with the delivery maybe just with the local delivery, it took me like a week to receive them but it worth itLeft 4 Dead sounds great,GH3 sounds great,Dirt 3 amazing, Opeth WOW , metallica sounds amazing. I think the key word here is AMAZING!!!!!!!1
It's not the best logitech speaker system I have but over all it works great! Good enough to throw a party in a small house or apartment building. The cables are long but impossible to conceal for surround sound in my small apartment living room. Also, the system did not come with a digital audio cable which is standard for most if not all flatscreen tv's. That part was really annoying. I haven't been able to fully test the system for a gaming system because of that stupid cable not being included with the system.
I got these speakers when they were around 50 bucks and I am not disappointed. The subwoofer in this set is insane in my tiny room lol. I'm not to sure how this would sound in a large room but in a small bedroom these things are really loud and really awesome. Highly recommended.
The Z506 are the worst speakers i've ever got. Been using them over a month, and many times either the front or rear speakers don't work. Sound quality isn't as amazing as my recent purchase of the Cyber Acoustic 2.1 Cyber Acoustics Subwoofer Satellite System (CA-3602).
The LOGITECH SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS Z506 are nice speakers for an even nicer price. They are easy to set up with color-coded speaker wires and corresponding color-coded jacks on the sub-woofer. I set mine up with a computer, which required the use of 3 additional color-coded cables that came with the speakers. It took about 7 minutes from opening the box to having sound. The LOGITECH SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS Z506 is a really nice set with the subwoofer serving as the hub. All speakers plug into it and it plugs into the computer. But you could easily plug it into your satellite or cable box or TV and use them that way. There's even a pair of old-style red and white RCA jacks which I guess were added for nostalgia. There is no special software for the LOGITECH SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS Z506. Your OS should handle them just fine. Windows 7's sound control panel let me tell it they were 5.1 and sent a test signal to each. That's when I discovered that the subwoofer wasn't woofing. Nothing I did could get sound out of it, including switching the speakers to another computer, wildly turning the knob on the back of the subwoofer, and visiting the Logitech forums. Bummer.Stylistically, the LOGITECH SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS Z506 don't particularly grab my fancy. They have an "industrial" look and a thin mesh over the cones. I can't imagine that mesh lasting. But it's the sound that really counts and the sound is good. In fact, I found myself cranking up my Lawrence Welk collection, lamenting the lack of a functioning subwoofer. Honestly, if that subwoofer hadn't come busted, everything would have been won'erful won'erful (and a 5 STAR review). As it is, it's just meh.UPDATE: Logitech customer support was more than excellent. They immediately replaced the non-working parts. No fuss, no muss, and FAST service. The LOGITECH SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS Z506 now work like a dream. Well done, Logitech. 5 stars all around.
In order to use these speaker as a 5.1 system for your TV you will need to buy a Logitech 5.1 Game Console Adapter Convert Rca Plugs To A Single 1/8. It cost 16 dollars. If you choose not to purchase the adapter, you will only be able to use the two side speaker, the middle speaker, and the woofer, making it a 2.1 system. You will not be able to use the 2 side end speakers. I found the adapter for half price with shipping on a bidding website that shall remain nameless. But i'm sure you will figure it out if your a internet shop-a-holic like myself :
Just opened the box today and installed the speakers in just about 5 minutes! Sound is great, subwoofer is fantastic! Much better than bose which was more expensive. Definitely recommended to all!
I usually don't write reviews for products on here, but I felt compelled to after receiving the Logitech Z506 surround sound system.***UPDATE*** (at the bottom)PROS:~SUPER easy to set-up, everything matches up by color.~Sound quality is superb compared to a lot of systems in this price range, especially for a 5.1 system.~Base is FANTASTIC! I honestly can't get over how awesome the subwoofer is, and best of all -- NO DISTORTION!~Since this is a tweeted system, you don't get distortion from the speakers like you would with a lot of other systems in this price range.~RCA capable (meaning you can directly connect it to your Audio Out on the back of the TV).~The ported down idea Logitech did for the subwoofer truely does make it fill the room (even at >50watts).~Great bang for the buck.CONS:~Wires can be a bit short, even for a small room.~No controller. So if you're like me and are planning to use this in a small room, I highly recommend this system; you can't go wrong!****UPDATE****After having owned this system for a little over 4 months, I have decided that.....this system is still fantastic! If you're hooking this bad-boy up to a TV, simply plug the RCA (red/black) cables into the back of the subwoofer, then the other end (3.5mm headphone) to the headphone jack on your TV. Easy peezy :)If you're hooking it up to a computer, simply plug the PC wires (not sure on the technical term, but they're the green, yellow, and black cords/wires) into the back of the subwoofer, as well as your PC. To get the surround sound effect (5.1) you will need to make sure your sound software is up to date. From there right click on your "speakers" (located under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Right click on Speakers) and you can adjust your settings to 5.1.I hope this has been helpful! Go buy this system today, it's fan-freakin'-tastic!
Ive had Logitech speakers before and knew they would be great. Easy to assemble and set-up, and sounded great without any issues.
Easy to setup, well packaged, and high quality parts. Only thing I don't like about them is that they are "analog" surround sound, so you cannot achieve true surround sound on your TV as it seems advertised.
The description states:"All-around sound for all your gear. HDTV. iPod. Game console. DVD player. Just plug in your entertainment gear and you can immerse yourself in big 5.1 surround sound--even from your 2-channel stereo music, movie and game tracks."This is very misleading. The audio inputs on this device are limited to receiving true 5.1 audio only from PC soundcards. Xbox360, PS3, HDTV all use Toslink optical out for digital 5.1 audio, and these speakers lack any input for digital audio. That means for games consoles and TV these speakers only perform in 2.1 (no real surround sound).Contrary to the product description, anybody who connects these speakers to a game console, HDTV, iPod, DVD player, etc. will only be receiving 2.1 audio via red/white or 3.5mm. Avoid them if you want 5.1 audio from anything other than a PC. Mine are going back. Very disappointing.
I should first state that in virtually all of my product reviews whether here or elsewhere I am usually pretty forgiving on problems. I cannot be so forgiving regarding this product, however. I have been through 2 of these, and just printed out my return authorization for the 2nd one. The problem is a rather annoying buzz or hum that comes from the speakers when they are powered on. I have heard all kinds of explanations for this, ground loop interference, etc etc, possibly a problem with the soundcard, blah blah blah. The fact of the matter is, when my old 2.1 Klipsch system is in use, I have no such hum or buzzing, period. I also borrowed a neighbors system and plugged them in, no hum or buzzing. Both sets of these that I received had the exact same problem which leads me to believe that this is a problem with the manufacturing itself. I have no explanations and the Logitech support person who tried to assist me had no explanation other than, "this seems to happen a lot". So, unfortunately 2 stars for this unit. I didn't hate it completely, just not impressed at all. 1 star for being fairly decent sound out of the satelites, and 1 star for the overall ordering/return process offered by Amazon.
Very pleased with my new sorround sound. It goes really loud that I cant even put it all the way up cause the wall that its near to vibrates.
