When my el-cheapo stereo headphones that I used with my laptop crapped out I went searching for a better replacement. After several weeks of research and reading opinions on those that were in my price range, I settled on the Koss SB49 headphones. Most reviews seemed favorable and Koss is a popular brand.This was a mistake. The audio from the headphones is acceptable and the reports on the mic audio were glowing but the major problem with the headphones is that they fit extremely tight on the head.I have a small head and wear glasses. The headphones become extremely uncomfortable after 5 minutes on the head. They squeeze the ears around my glasses arms and the longer I wear them the more painful it is. The tension is so great on the headphones that I don't think they would be comfortable even if you don't wear glasses.I cannot recommend these headphones.Background: Ham radio operator and heavily involved in electronics for 56 years. Broadcast engineer for 5 of those years.

I've had this headset for I believe just over a year now, and it is still in perfect condition.The headphones are quite comfortable, and I can wear them for long periods of time without having to take them off. While I've surely felt more comfortable headphones, they are perfectly satisfactory. In terms of sound, they are also quite nice, though this is the first headset I've owned, so I cant say much for comparison. The only complaints about sound I have is that the right earphone is much quieter than the left, until I turn up the headset to a certain point, where it seems to kick in better. The other being that the sound control slider on the cord can not completely turn of the sound. I would like to be able to turn it all the way down. It seems durable (I take good care of it) even though my brother's has broken (this quite possibly do to poor care) and he's getting a new one. All in all, I think this is a good product, with a very decent price. Its not high end quality, but I use it a lot for gaming, music, and what not and it has been perfectly satisfactory. I would recommend this headset. (EDIT) The headset does feel stiff, and somewhat uncomfortable at first, and may hurt your ears, but after breaking it in, it form around your head a little better and fit niceley.

When product arrived, the right earpiece produced no audio. I tested different audio tracks to no avail. I also tested on different devices (iPad, cell phone, desktop PC), but the results were the same -- no right audio.My brother walked into the room during my testing and noted that he had the exact same headset. He had bought it months ago, but it didn't last two months until one of the ear cups completely fell off.Initial (short) impressions of product: It seemed that the audio quality from the left ear sounded fine. I can't get too detailed about it, as listening strictly with one ear is somewhat awkward. Comfort was acceptable, but again, I didn't wear it for a lengthy amount of time. I did not test the microphone, as I already knew that this product was going to be returned. Aside from moving up and down, the microphone distance cannot be adjusted. This headset was relatively light and does not feel very durable.I'm sending this back to Amazon for a complete refund -- my experience may have been a fluke, but also considering that my brother's set was so short-lived, I don't think I'm going to test my luck with another set.

I've been buying Koss headphones since the 1990s, and their ear-covering models all have one thing in common: comfort. These things are soft and feel great compared to similar headphones from some other companies (I'm looking at you, SONY). I have a fairly large head, large enough that I can't wear "one size fits all" hats, but these aren't too tight. I do have to pull them out to their widest, but no headaches result from wearing them for hours at a time. The audio is fine, the mic works decently, with my only complaint being that it picks up breathing a bit. At the price, though, I can't complain at all. The volume control slider on the wire is also a nice touch.Cons: Picks up breathing.

After a change in work environments, I needed to ability to participate in 6+ hour long meetings in an open bay (Dilbertville) office. These allow me to participate, blocking out the office noise, yet don't crush my ears. Love these!

The sound on the Koss SB49 headphones is great, exactly what I expected. Unfortunatly I had to buy a new sound card to get them to work, not the fault of the headset. Now the microphone is a different story. I initially had a lot of problem with people hearing me, the sound broke up a lot. Setup was a real difficult struggle. Tweaked settings a lot back and forth, then bent the boom way in almost touching my mouth and it is better. So between settings and physically adjusting the microphone it finally was at last half way decent. Now I can use it for Skype and Team Speak 3. Still I think if nothing else the sound was well worth the cost.

These felt really heavy when I picked them up but they are very comfortable wearing them. The cord i think could be longer and more durable but in general these seem to be very good quality. I gave them a four out of five for the volume, they are not very loud at their loudest setting, however they are loud enough. I also do not care for the form of volume control these use. I prefer the ones where you tap the headphone, this one is a slider and the settings jump around. Haven't tried the mic yet but as long as it works this is a great product for the price. I also ordered these through amazon and they arrived ahead of schedule.

I bought this headset specifically to use with Rosetta Stone. Although the speech recognition doesn't work perfectly with this headset, it is much better (and I think that the rest of the errors are mine or in the version of RS that I have).The sound, of both the mic and headphones, is great. I have other headphones that I use when I'm not using this for RS, but these do have excellent sound quality. The comfort level is also good. I have a fairly large head...so they feel a little tight right when I put them on, but they feel comfortable, for the most part, while I am wearing them (and for extended use too). My other Koss headphones are more comfortable, but do not have a mic. The only thing I don't like about this headset is the mic is not adjustable (other than swiveling up/down).Edit (8/10/12): Still comfortable and works great for Rosetta Stone. My only quibble is that the mic is not adjustable. Oh, well!

Lets start with sound. These sound very nice. They are not overly bass heavy like a lot of the newer headphones these days. They have nice clean and balanced bass and that goes for all other wave bands. The sound is very transparent and response is clean for movies, music, and games. These aren't surround sound, but I can tell where things are happening in a game or movie.The ear cup are supra-aural (go around the entire ear) which I really like. I find that to be much more comfortable. The pads are nice and soft and don't cause me to sweat. The cups block out a lot of ambient noise and actually make it a little strange to talk because my voice is so muffled to my own ears. This is good in some people's minds, and bad in others. Just don't be waiting on hearing the oven timer go off if you are wearing these, because you aren't going to hear it. I need a bit more break in time to know if this is really an issue, but these squeeze your head a bit right out of the box. It isn't uncomfortable, but it is noticeable.The mic does a great job with Skype or online gaming. Everybody says that I am crystal clear and that there is no distortion. The onboard volume control works as advertised and the cord is a reasonable length.Overall these are great buy for the money and I would certainly recommend them to anybody that wants good sound and comfort with dropping big cash.

The headset "does the job," and for $25 I guess you can't ask for much more, but the audio quality of the speakers in the headset is just so-so. The sound is pretty flat, the bass is weak and hollow, and the emphasis is on the mid to high-range. The mic is OK, and does a pretty good job filtering out background noise, but makes my voice sound tinny and flat, kinda like the speakers (even when playing back my voice through my real PC speakers, not the headset). But again, for like $25, they ain't bad.

I tried multiple headsets in this price range ($50-$100)- 3 Plantronics, 2 Logitech, and these. I am on many conference calls. These received the best feedback from my call participants. The comfort is good - I have a big head and they fit well (although I wish that the ear covers were cloth so my ears did not get as hot). The sound and mic quality are great. I have to be careful - even if I whisper to my kids VERY quietly folks on the line understand every word. I definately recommend.

Mine work great, but my big head can make them a bit uncomfortable. Too long and I get some fluid buildup behind my ears (which could be me, and have nothing to do with the product). However, if I put on a beanie or hoodie that covers my ears and then put on the headphones, the comfort level goes way up. So if you find yourself with a large head, might want to look elsewhere.

I did a lot of research and looked around for quite a long time before I decided on these. I'm a big gamer but also need them to block out rude co-workers that like to talk across the aisle and these WORK WONDERFULLY!!!! Not only do they block out sounds, they also do not leak sound allowing me to crank up my music and jam while at work. Many times they have to get my visual attention. They also work great with my phone!!!! I have had the same pair for 3 years and they are just now going out! They are very sturdy! I have dropped them quite a few times! And I LOVE the long cord!!! It allows me to not be tied down to my desk and walk around my office. It also only has one side corded eliminating the fuss of where to put the cord. Plus they have their own volume control so if I am not near my desk I can still turn it down to speak with people and not have to rush back to my computer. They do have a limited lifetime warranty so I could turn them back in to have them fixed but at this price, I might as well get myself a whole new pair .... and then wait for the other pair to be fixed. :-)

After using this product for a few weeks, I feel I've gotten to know it well enough to give my impressions. I can't speak for the long term durability of the headset, but it feels solid enough. My overall impression is that this is a good headset for gaming/skype, but if you're looking for something that will give you a quality music listening experience too, look elsewhere.Comfort:The ear cups seem a little shallow and a bit large, so over long periods of gaming I'll have to adjust the headset a few times an hour. Not as comfortable as other circumaural headphones I've used, but acceptable for multiple hour sessions. The headband is broad and soft and as such hasn't bothered me at all.Isolation:Minimal, but not nonexistent. This headset neither isolates you from any ambient noise nor does it prevent much sound leaking into the environment. At reasonable volumes, though, the sound coming from the headset will not reach very far. Don't buy this headset if you're looking for good sound isolation.Sound quality:The bass tones are slightly muddy and understated, but they mix well with the mids and highs. There isn't much sub-bass to speak of, though the headset is rated down to 18 Hz. It gives decent instrument separation, but nothing spectacular. Really, this headset was designed for two-way communication not listening to music, so it's not surprising that it doesn't stand out in any way on the music front. As far as gaming goes, it won't immerse you as well as some other headphones might, but it gives all the directional cues it needs to for an acceptable gaming headset.Microphone quality:This will be the reason you should get this headset. It's got good microphone quality for the price. You can buy much better music listening headphones at this price point without a microphone, but this headset has the best overall balance for microphone and sound quality. If you use Skype a lot, or want to communicate with your team/clan in Vent, Mumble or a game, I can safely recommend this product.Other:The cable is a good length and I appreciate the volume slider along the cord. The colors of the plugs might confuse some (they're grey and black instead of green and red), but just be careful and it won't be an issue. The headset folds neatly into a more compact shape.

I've gone through four of these in a year due to the wires becoming loose, which leads to audio cutting out in one side or the other. I take very good care of headsets specifically to avoid this problem but they still break within 3-5 months every time. Avoid if at all possible.

I grew up on Koss Pro 4AA and Pro 4AAA headphones, and so I was looking to Koss to maintain that level of quality in a modern headphone for (primarily) listening to music and (occasionally) using it for VOIP and/or teleconferences. I had a nice set of Soundblaster (Tactic 3D Sigma) headphones at home (that I love) and I wanted something similar for work. I got the Soundblasters on sale and now they were too expensive, so I went for the Koss SD49's based on my prior experience and good reviews.Imagine my surprise when I plugged them in and heard a shrill, pronounced midrange and distant bass. While listening to a range of music including solo piano, Doobie Brothers, ELO, Acoustic Alchemy, and The Doors, the midrange made me want to rip these things off my head.Just to make sure, I put on the Soundblasters to do an A-B comparison. As usual, the Soundblasters made me want to listen all day. Comfortable, clear, deep, and articulate.Result: I am returning the Koss's and buying a slightly less expensive version of the Soundblasters for work.
