I bought this purely to digitise my collection of old slides. This is all I've used it for so far, so I can't comment on how well it performs on other tasks, but for my needs it's brilliant. I've tried the cheaper sort of 'single-shot' scanners in the past (i.e. the sort that take photos of your photos rather than actually making scans) and the results were rubbish, with completely washed-out light areas (such as skies with clouds). This is more expensive, of course, but not excessively so. Since it takes quite an investment in time to convert boxes of slides, why mess about with something that gives (at best) mixed results?
Some reviewers have said it doesn't work with 64-bit Windows 7. Well, that's what I'm using, with no problems so far. Then again, I admit that what I'm doing only needs the basic functions: copy the slides and put them in a folder. From there I can use other software. Perhaps more sophisticated bits of the software won't work: it doesn't matter for me.

In my original review I rated it as 1 star because the software would not install correctly
After a number of comments that others were able to use it with Windows 7 64 bit; I decided to try again-
It still would not install correctly the first time, but after manually deleting all old installed Epson kit (Especially .inf references)including printers & an old Cannon scanner I managed to get it to install.

The Epson event manager now works, BUT the button setting utility is still shown as "not available", making it more difficult for family members to use than it should be as the scan buttons can't be reconfigured.
Overall, the scanner now works reasonably well, but the instillation is very flakey & the Scanner control Software is poor. So my advise would be if your going to use with win 7 64 bit Google the possible problems first.

Excellent scanner. We use this in a small office. Excellent value, good quality scanner. We particularly like the pdf function.

I purchased it to scan slides and I am impressed by the way that it identifies slides on the tray. It will only scan 4 slides at a time so you need to be selective. Very easy to use once you have got used to which button to press and the results are excellent. When you want to use it just click on the relevant icon. There is another icon for the user guide. The width and length measurements are larger than I expected. Ok for scanning photographs too. I rate it as a safe buy.

With a windows 7 PC the Canon would not work anymore. Well I was cross because all that was needed was a driver from Canon - and no none exist via Google, etc.
However, now that I have this I'm quite glad the Canon no longer worked. The Epson is so much faster, both in warming up and in scanning. The settings (Auto/Manual/Pro) are fairly simple to use, providing all the adjustment you could need - well for me anyway and I'm keen on photo printing.
With a film and slide scanner it can basically scan anything. I've used it so far for a few documents and photos and am very happy with the speed and quality of the results. Will be trying it to scan some film at some stage. Seems a really good product.

Slower than my ancient HP all-in-one. Haven't tried the film/slide adaptors yet to see if it's better than my old HP film scanner, hope so 'cos that has no drivers for anything newer than XP hence the need for this.
Quality of A4 scans is fine and the user interface is ok but it's just tooooooo slooooooowwwwwww!

Great product and really easy to use. I only have one complaint about this product and that is I also have 110 size negatives but am unable to copy theses as the negative holder is only fo 35m.

Great product. I wanted to scan and catalogue a family photo archive. You need to play around at first to get a balance of quality / file size to suit the storage capacity you have available.

Excellent results despite some initial puzzlement over installation of software due to very sketchy manual. Great range of functioning - every sort of document and photograph in whatever form is catered for at various resolutions up to very high. The photographic aspect of this scanner is integrated into the machine as a whole with the lid converting into a slide/negative film carrier including the scanning light when the pad (used with documents and prints) is taken out of the lid. Four slides can be scanned at a time, and a larger number of 35mm film images.

Seems to be a fantastic piece of kit, the quality is excellent as is the speed.
The differing functions are very intuitive and present no problems for some one just

In the past I've always used HP but this time I widened my search as some had poor reviews. I'd been using a multifunction but when the cartridges died I decided to put it on Freecycle and buy a scanner only, hoping it would be speedier. I'd started scanning film photos two years ago,but finding it a bit laborious and slow I'd given up and had a pile left. Enter the Epsom and within a couple of hours they were finally done. The Arcsoft software included worked quite well, in fact much better than the software I used before.
It does exactly what it says on the tin. Better still it's light enough to move and put at the side of me for bulk jobs. I've not used the negative bit yet but I will try it eventually. A real improvement on the old scanner.

My Perfection 1660 was my first scanner (12 years +) and now failing. Nearest alternative I could find. Easy installation and excellent features ( I like the Auto scan mode for old photo digitisation)

I have not fully exploited this machine yet as it is only a couple of weeks since purchase. However I can report that the scanning process is simple as the unit automatically recognises the source (photograph, colour slide and negatives).
With 4 slides or six negatives loaded the scanning process time is variable depending on the dpi selected. The auto functions reasonably quickly but you still must have patience! All results have been exceptional and above expectations and at 1200 dpi the pictures have been remarkably true, colours and definition. The software provided does its job well but you will probably want use a good photo editing package if you load below par source material.
I have more to learn but this is a super machine which will bring to life those boxed up memories. I did a lot of research prior to buying this unit and recommend the value for money Epson V370.

When scanning negatives, the image produced had lines or bands of colour along the long axis. This occurred on all settings including automatic. Initilly this was ok but after a time the fault became evident, either as the scanner warmed up or as a fault developed. OK with transparancies.
Returned to Amazon and I had a new one the next day. BUT!!
The second one exhibited the same problem. Images sent to Epson who confirmed that the scanner was faulty. Returned to Amazon for a refund. Lost faith. Buying another make. Shame, because the software was good and the scanner itself seemed ok.

Scanner arrived on time undamaged and worked straight off. Easy to install and use. I'm sure there are better scanners for slides if you want to pay a small fortune but this scanner is just what I need for everyday, consistent, easy-to-use, scanning at an affordable price.

I looked for weeks at dedicated slide scanners before buying this product , I have 20 years worth of slides in the attic and I wanted them back, onto Pc and up into the internet to share. After discovering this device I decided that I would try it out. I am really pleased with the results , if you just want to bring back an library of old slides or negatives than this will do the job really well, the fact that it can do it 4 t a time makes it fairly quick to get through a 120 Slide reel. I am delighted to get my life back using this product.

I couldn't get the film scanning to work properly at the start. It was trial and error to figure out how it worked. The manual was not very intuitive.
Unfortunately I bought this to scan medium format negatives and this scanner doesn't do them.
Perhaps it was my fault, but I bought the V500 instead which is a much more sturdy model with medium format technology.
Both produce excellent images, though a bit slow at high resolution.

This scanner was delivered promptly and works very well. All the photos I scanned in turned out very well and the scanner was easy to operate. I would recommend this scanner. It is a bit big though but this is a minor point.

The scanner was delivered quickly but there was only a very short set of instructions. On line was little better and i still cannot work out how to get a photo from the scanner to my computer.It is well built and the few copies I have managed have come out well.

As per all the positive reviews, I reiterate the following: The scanner will indeed operate using windows 7. It takes about 5-10 minutes to install. Installation is very simple, but you must install the software from the cd/dvd before you connect the scanner to your PC, if you do not you will encounter problems. The scanner works flawlessly and is relatively quiet whilst operating. I’m therefore very happy with my purchase.
