I already own a decent scanner built into a Canon all-in-one printer, but I bought this to enable me to scan in some old negatives. I tried one of the cheaper negative copiers that take a digital photo of the negative, but the results were quite poor - colour rendition was inaccurate, lighting varied across the photo, edges were artificially enhanced and the output was only available as a heavily compressed JPEG. I decided to try this scanner as the next step up, not being willing to pay for a dedicated professional negative scanner.
Frankly, having done so, I'm not sure what the benefits of a dedicated pro scanner would be - the results produced by the Epson are superb. Beautiful sharp images with more natural colour balance than the original prints had, perfect exposure (even on tricky nighttime shots) and no evidence of artificial processing. Scanning a negative at 3200 dpi takes a couple of minutes, but the results are worth the wait. Even on the default full-auto mode - just insert negatives and hit Scan - the results are more than acceptable.
I'll be returning the previous negative scanner, but this one's a keeper - if you are trying to rescue old negatives (and have the patience to wait a couple of minutes for each one), it's a brilliant tool.
One more note - a couple of reviewers say they have had problems getting it to work with Win7 64-bit - that's what I'm running, and it installed and worked perfectly first time.

Edit - I've noticed one other reviewer has had problems with bands of colour when scanning negatives. I've seen the same, but it isn't a fault - it indicates that there is dirt or marks on the scanner glass under the calibration region of the negative holder. This is the empty rectangle at one end of the negative strip - make sure the glass under this is perfectly clean, and the banding will disappear.

This has been a superb buy. Easy to scan transparencies and negatives as well as prints, and I love the way you can batch the photographs so that it allows a batch name and then numbers consecutively as you scan each one. On a Mac I can keep open the Epson scanner programme pane (by far the easiest to follow of the ones included), the scan preview pane and the destination folder showing each thumbnail as the finished scan pops into place: the latter means that I don't lose track of where I am with my scanning. It's quite big but light enough to pack away when i've finished with it - I use my HP printer for basic scanning and copying. This model has lots of choices of settings and I am completely satisfied with the results of my high-resolution scanning. I readily recommend it. Good value, good quality, and easy to use.

Excellent, does what it says on the tin. I bought it primarily for slide scanning and the results are very good with and easy to use loading system.

I bought the Epson V370 Scanner for scanning some old negatives going back to the 1920s. It works fine for 35mm negatives and 35mm slides but it is not designed to handle medium format such as 120 roll film. I am very upset because Amazon's blurb refers to "easy scanning of slides, film and negatives" and "scanning of 35mm, medium or large 8" x 10" format film". Talking to Epson I understand that I would need the V600 model which costs about three times as much.

My requirements for Windows 7 64-bit compatible, better than average reproduction and ease of use for text and images have all been met.
Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat automatically find and use the scanner without problem.
The supplied basic version of ABBYY Fine Reader (OCR software) is very good, better than previous versions, and is a bonus. ABBYY will create Word files as well as PDFs and spreadsheets. The quality of the scanner's output is good enough for the OCR to need little or no correction.
As others have pointed out, the sockets for power and data seem conveniently placed, but in practice get in the way. They are on the same side of the scanner as the hinge which instinctively you want away from you and often as not up against the wall.
I've given it 4 stars. If it was a bit quieter, faster and the cables in a better position, I'd have given 5 stars.

I purchased this item for my Husbands birthday, he has hundreds of slides and I knew he wanted to get them onto his computer. He was looking at smaller scanners just for slides, he didn't know I was looking at reviews for other models, I picked this one sent it to my son to check out, he thought it looked good so I bought it. My Husband is very pleased with it so far and the results have been very good.

A device with a good specification for the price, but I encountered issues with using this with windows 7 64 bit and had to return this for a refund. There seems to be a jungle of confusion with a number of electronic devices today and really needs to be sorted in this world of computer technology.

We had to replace an older scanner and chose this make and model. it turned out to be a great choice, the scanner itself is light and compact and takes up little space in an already crowded office. It is very user friendly and the quality of the scans are superb. I even had to scan in a very old photograph and it did an amazing job. The packaging and delivery were first class all the way and I would have no hesitation in recommending the product or the seller.

Seems to work OK as previously owned one did for eight years but Epson failed to provide drivers for Windows 7 on upgrade of computer, disgusting on Epson for a world wide firm!!!!!!!

My old scanner was around 15 years old and if this one lasts as long will be well pleased. Had some difficulty setting up until I realised there was a newer versions of the software to be downloaded and then worked like magic on my iMac So far really good and very easy to use

Amazon's product description implies that the V370 can scan "35mm, medium or large 8" x 10" format film -- or transparencies". In reality it can solely scan 35mm transparencies and negatives, as can be confirmed by downloading the manual from Epson.

The size of this scanner is quite large but it can cope with a larger scope of work outside the scanning of slides etc. I have been copying slides initially & it does a really good job. The programme has tripped a couple of times requiring re-booting which whilst annoying was not difficult to cope with.
Plenty of options with this scanner & not too difficult to set up.

Wanted a scanner to produce a photobook from old photos, negatives and slides. Almost bought a dedicated scanner for negatives and slides only. I'm very glad that I didn't as this Epson is fantastic and it didn't cost much more. It will give you very high resolution if you want it. For 300dpi scanning it is surprisingly quick. One feature that I particularly like is the scanner is that if you have multiple photographs on the flatbed it will create individual files for each photo, providing the scanner can see a gap between one image and the next. Very pleased with this scanner and would recommend.

Bought to replace a Canon scanner that Canon didn't update the windows drivers for. Very easy to set up and does a good job. Software is fine for the jobs I have used it for. Have scanned 450 negatives now without issue as well as slides and prints. Recommended if you want to archive your slides/negatives, as I do.

The scanner came yesterday, I firstly tried scanning a photo my expectations for the finished scan was a little bit higher than the actual scan but it was still pretty good the only thing was the colour, it wasn't as sharp an vibrant as the photo. I then tried a colour negative, it was easy to load in the case an with the holes on the scanner always went in in the same place, the finished result far exceeded my expectations they were photo quality, I think its well worth the money, play about with different settings to suit what you are after the only thing wrong for me is the instructions pretty poor.

A really good scanner for the price, bought originally to make soft copies of my slide collection. The instructions are quite minimal, as I hadn't had a scanner before, and it took a little while to figure out how to mount the slides...however, easy enough once you know how. Picture/resolution appears good.

Scanner is excellent. Very pleased with my purchase. My only complaint is to do with the delivery of my item.
The scanner was left behind my rubbish bin in my front garden.
The item could have been destroyed if it rained or it could have been taken by any passer bye.

Absolutely awful product, couldn't load the software, so complicated. Nobody would help at customer service. I litteraly spean hours and hours trying to get it to work. NEVER EVER AGAIN would I buy an HP.

This is my first Epson Scanner. After some short review for available produces I ended up on the V370 as the most balanced solution (price/value) for my task. The main reason for buying it, was to scan through all my families (hard copy photos) and save them in digital form.
1. The scanner is fast enough and the software is very convenient - you can scan at the same time 3-5 photos (depending on the size). It will auto crop them and the supporting software (Epson Scan) will apply some corrections (color/dust removal) if needed.
2. The integration with MacOSX is fine.
There is one problem. I am currently through my 600th photo graph scanned. Meaning I have done at least 200 scan passes (each session can scan 3-4 photos). The resolution is 720 dpi and the scan passes vary from 1-2 two. So we are talking about 500-600 ups and downs of the sensor (maybe more). After that many photo's there is a noise on the mechanical drive that moves the sensor. It is obvious that after that many 'rides' the rollers are in need of lubrication or something - the noise is similar to an old door that you must apply some lubricant oil. It is not the end of the world but I guess it is a scanner with a limit on the max load you can put on it, in terms of scans.

I checked this out with Which? first where all the Epson Perfections have great scores. Am really pleased. Quality is excellent. Easy to use. Software is excellent too.

I rate this scanner as highly as this because I purchased it to replace an earlier version I had for a few years that finally died on me (well, nothing lasts forever does it) and as I require a scanner that takes photographic negatives as well as items permitted out (photos, papers, bits out of magazines as so on) it was as they say a no brainer to choose it.
