After investing in 802.11n capable wifi and streaming devices I decided to upgrade to a dual-link wifi router supporting 802.11/a/b/g/n. As I expected, the usual "suspects" have products out in the market that can delight, and baffle, anyone looking for one. After reviewing the vendors' claims and end-user reviews I decided on the D-Link DIR-825. One CNET review was helpful by pointing out that pricier routers are not necessarily better-performing than their lesser kins. And my own experience showed that better known brands are not necessarily better than others. The DIR-825 arrived 3 days after my order, and ship-retail-packaged just right. The instruction is pretty straightforward based on the items included: router, "blue" Cat-5 cable, mounting stand, wood screw fasteners, "start here" printed materials, and install disc. Although I can install, configure, and deploy a network device manually I decided to give the "start here" package a go. I was not disappointed. After some minor/personalize tweaking, the router was working the way I wanted it to. After the usual successful "shake-down" I closed the book on another successful implementation. My home network devices include this DIR-825, CISCO DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, a D-Link passive hub in the garage, a Netgear passsive hub in the attic, a wired D-Link Share Center NAS with (2) 1TB HDD, (2) LG Bluray with WiFi, Roku Wifi, Philips HDTV Wifi, Canon Pixma WiFi printer, (2) Win 7 WiFi notebooks, (1) Win 8 notebook, (1) Win 7 PC, (1) Win 8 PC, (2) generic WiFi Android players, and the occasional "guests" devices. I'm not using the USB feature of this router so I cannot comment on the usefulness of it. My experience in this business is that any network device is "this" for some, and "that" for others. And my experience, to date, to the DIR-825 is "this" is very good for me.Update as of 02/26/2013: I just deployed a Dell Latitude E-4300 bundled 802.11a/b/g/n card and with a WiFi router "snifter" called DW WLAN CARD UTILITY. This program is similar to a basic network monitor and allowed me to "see" that 2.4Ghz frequency WiFi channels 1, 6, and 11 are heavily used in my neighborhood, while 9 or 10 are not. I think the reason for this is that most wireless routers are defaulted to 1, 6, or 11. Having this info made me change my 2.4Ghz channel setting to 9. The DLink 5GHZ channel setting defaulted to 36 and the snifter shows I'm the only one using this. The snifter also shows my DLink D825 two frequencies as advertised: 2.4Ghz@150 and 5Ghz@300. My notebooks with 802.11g cards are using the 2.4Ghz and my one notebook with 802.11n card is using the 5Ghz. This minor tweaking was relatively simple, quick, and did it only once.

Ужасно

Purchased the router back in September, and it was great. I was replacing a DGL-4300 that had followed me through several moves all over the world and had been fantastic. This router seemed like a great replacement, worked right out of the box, setup was simple (I tweaked some wireless settings but overall my network infrastructure requirements are fairly simple). Then, in January, a weird thing started to happen. Over the wired connections IPv4 connectivity would simply die. IPv6 would continue on just fine. Wireless clients were completely unaffected. New wired clients added to the network would experience the problem, new wireless clients would not. It happened twice over the course of a week. Then it started happening every day. Then multiple times per day. A router reboot would fix the problem. Finally reboots stopped fixing the problem. IPv4 connectivity over wired connections was toast. Just in case it was some minor setting I tweaked I went ahead and reset the router to factory settings and set it up again. Same problem. Bypassing the router solved the problem immediately.I expect more from a router, especially one where it's barely being exercised while being advertised as a router for "intensive" gaming and streaming. Had the router lasted a year I probably would have left the rating at two stars, maybe three (I don't really expect devices like this to last very long these days, quality is generally poor across the board). But the death of a fundamental function of a $100+ router (I don't consider IPv4 connectivity over a wired port to be a "feature") after 4 months is pretty pathetic. This router will most likely be going in the bin. I loved my DGL-4300, but this situation has changed my opinion of D-Link from "good" to, at best, "neutral".

i needed/wanted to replace my aging dlink dap-1522 and wanted something that would give me coverage throughout our entire house. the 1522 was a good ap, but, it couldn't reach the top floor of our 3 story condo/townhouse. i purchased the companion router for my daughter who is in college and it worked very well and never dropped out or gave her any problems and in almost a year, she has never had to reset it.i saw this companion wap and being a previous dlink customer, i went for it based on the strength of my daughters usage and the advertisements. i went to amazon, found it at a great price and purchased it. got it, had it installed and secured in just minutes. i've got full strength throughout the entire 3 floors of the house. all rooms, even with the doors closed, this includes the bathroom too! we can also sit in the front or back of the house outside and still get plenty of signal.so far, i've not had any problems with it; glad i chose this product to go with. i never had a true worry about it working, all my other dlink products worked and this one is no exception! dlink puts out great products and i've never had a real problem with any of them. they have all worked as advertised and have all gotten better as they have advanced over time.i highly recommend this for anyone who needs a good wap for coverage to a large area. oh yeah, our walls are plaster/lath construction and lots of metal bar joist and the signal is still full on every floor. put your fears to rest! oh yeah, support, i did update the firmware as soon as i got it since one was available, it took without a problem. very happy i got this and at a great price too!

This adapter together with the D-Link DP-301P+ enabled wireless network printing to an AutoLabel PI 412c bagger printer from Automated Packaging Systems. Manufacturer offers a network (wired Ethernet) card for this printer for over $450. These adapter together with the D-Link DP-301P+ adapter allowed "wireless" ethernet connectivity for about $350 less to existing parallel printer.DP-301P+ configuration:First a static IP from local network was configured on the DP-301P+ adapter using its web interface and following manufacturer's instructions. Then the adapter was connected to our network and to the Centronics parallel port of an old HP LaserJet 4050 for testing purposes. A NEW "Local" printer was then added to a test computer with a NEW "TCP/IP Standard" port pointing to the same static IP previously configured in the adapter. Then the drivers for the HP printer were loaded, and a multiple test pages were printed successfully on the new network printer.DAP-1350 configuration:A D-Link DAP-1350 Wi-Fi adapter was then configured in "client" mode by first connecting it to the Wi-Fi network using its web interface Wireless Setup screen. Once confirmed that the Wi-Fi adapter was connected to the Wi-Fi network, the MAC address of the DP-301P+ was entered in the "Wireless MAC Clone" of the DAP-1350 Wireless Setup screen. Both adapters were then connected using an Ethernet patch cable and new test pages were printed successfully on the HP test printer now via a wireless printer connection. Finally we connected the DP-301P+ to the PI 412c printer parallel (Centronics) port and connected the DAP-1350 to the DP-301P+ Ethernet port. Multiple test bag labels were successfully printed. We now have a Wireless-N PI 412c bagger printer that can be freely moved around the production floor if needed, requiring only 3 power outlets to connect the printer and the 2 power adapters from these 2 D-Link adapters. All for about $109, and the time it took to configure both adapters (about 1 hour). We are $aving about $350 when compared to manufacturer's (wired only) Ethernet adapter offering.Yes, we highly recommend this product combination for any legacy parallel printer.

I am really confused when manufacturers unnecessarily limit the functionality of a device. This router features a USB port that can be used for "sharing" USB printers and storage devices. The reason I put "sharing" in quotes is because of the following limitations:You can not set up the USB device as a normal network share, instead you have to install D-Link's own proprietary software called Shareport on all computers that you want to have access to this device. This software allows you to connect to the shared storage device connected to your router. When you are connected, your computer behaves as if the device is directly connected to your computer via a USB. The problem is that when someone else on another computer wants to connect to the device, they can't until the other person disconnects the device. The software will send a request to user currently connected to the device to disconnect (and hopefully s/he is there to get the message). This seems needlessly cumbersome, and really defeats the purpose of having the USB port in back of the router. I may as well just physically move the device from computer to computer!Fortunately if you install DD-WRT, you can actually have a fully-functional NAS device. DD-WRT is a third-party open source firmware replacement that works with a variety of different routers, and with this particular router, it is very easy to install.

I have a Raspberry Pi at home for handling my routing tasks, since I wanted a low-cost solution to bridge a variety of devices you wouldn't normally run ethernet from, such as android phones and handheld hotspots.I was running ethernet from the Pi and wireless from the handheld devices, but I wanted a good 5 GHz 802.11n solution with some variant of beam-forming for everything else due to the noisy 2.4 GHz spectrum in my apartment building.I didn't really want something that tried to do anything with the traffic, just a solid access point. I'd considered an Aruba Networks AP-125 802.11a/b/g/n Access Point, but the ~$700 pricing wasn't really something that I wanted to spend given that 802.11ac is just around the corner.I settled on this and I'm fairly happy with it. It does a good job managing the 5 or so devices I connect to it, and it does a great job being out of the way versus other consumer-grade devices I'd considered. My main complaint here is that I can't run 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultanously. There's literally a hardware switch for that on the back. It's less of an issue given that I run 2.4 GHz off the tethered device, but may be an issue if you don't have all 5 GHz gear. (My Nexus 7 tablet isn't, though my Nexus 4 phone is, for example)

I am using the DAP1350 with a MacBook Air, so I don't even have a disk drive, but the included software is for Windows anyway. No problems there; I didn't need it. So this unit is fine to use with a Mac.I did do something wrong the first time I tried to setup the router... all was fine -- the wireless was working! -- until I went to add a password for accessing the network, and then, once the password was set, I could not login to the network myself. And I couldn't figure out how to reset the router. There is 24/7 tech support, but I decided to try the website first.Tips:1. The reset button -- to restore factory settings, is on the bottom. The base rotates 90 degrees to act as a stand, and you need a paperclip-type object to poke into the little hole and hold for 10 seconds to reset.2. I grabbed a copy of the DAP-1350 user's manual, which it turns out I prefer to the quickstart page that comes in the box. Among other things, I was having a hard time reading some of the printed quickstart page.In my second attempt (after the restore), I went to the router mode setup section, and used the setup wizard, as I had before. Again, getting the wireless to work was straightforward. To set the password for accessing the network (note that this is different from the password to administer the router, though of course you could use the same password if you really wanted to), I went to WIRELESS SETTINGS on the left sidebar and used the wireless network setup wizard. I manually assigned a network key, so that I could specify my own password (easier to remember), and checked the box for WPA encryption. Anyway, with those choices, the setup worked fine. (When I didn't specify WPA encryption, it did not, but who knows if I might have done something else wrong.)Anyway, now it's all setup and I am wireless! I am using this just for my home network, though of course the great thing about this little unit is that you can so easily travel with it.Heads up: This is not also a wired router. So it's probably not actually the best thing for a regular home router. E.g., my other router is connected to the Xbox and Roku via ethernet cables, and you can't do that with this. It's wireless only. There are also two other configurations possible with this unit. You can use it with a computer that does not have wireless to pick up a wireless network for your computer, via USB. And you can also use it in access point mode.Although I stumbled at first, I think this is a great little unit, and I'm pleased to have it.

Ужасно

I purchased this router because I recently wired my home and wanted a fair number of wired connections, but also needed the wireless capability due to the many devices in the home (PC's, laptops, kindles, blu-ray players, gaming consoles, etc.). The wired connection worked perfectly and I have zero complaints. If that is all this router is going to be used for, it works. There is an ugly side to this router, though. At random intervals, the router will completely stop sending any wireless signal. This isn't just interference or a weak signal. It completely stops broadcasting the signal. You cannot search for the signal and if you do it will not show up. This can happen once a week or it can happen multiple times a day (as has been my case). Others have found this router to be defective in this area and D-Link has stopped selling it themselves because there have been a large number of defective units.Overall, this router is only capable of doing half of what it is advertised to do. The wired connections work well, but the wireless issues that persist will drive you to insanity. It is for this reason, I cannot rate this product any higher and wish I could give it less than a single star. For prospective buyers, you have been warned. You can get lucky and acquire a working unit, but that is not likely. Look for a different product.

It isn't often I feel compelled to write a review of a product, but I'm very impressed with this.Ease of InstallationI almost didn't purchase this because of reviews where people said it was hard to install. I have no idea what they were talking about, either the instructions have recently been improved, or they were just very dense. Seriously installation was as complex as plugging into the wall, connecting to Ethernet and by the time I got to the pc it was already working. I went to the config page at 192.168.0.50 and it had taken my SSID and pw already so it was re broadcasting my current network with security key without any effort on my part.Expectations vs Actual PerformanceReading about "smart beam technology" kinda makes me suspicious of clever marketing gimmicks and at best I was expecting a marginal improvement in my wifi signal.I have a program installed that lets me do diagnostics on wifi signals, and on the other side of my house I normally get around 52% signal, 120ms latency and 1.5mbps speed. With this device I was pleased to see 100% 39s latency and 14-15mbps speed. I was expecting maybe to hit 75% tops but def not a 100. After seeing this I took my phone outside and was able to connect all the way down the street when beforehand I could barely connect in my bedroom.
