This is a very good router, but I had issues during setup. I have Qwest DSL and the DIR-615 wizard setup couldn't auto-configure the router to provide internet service. Most routers use an intranet address in the range of 192.168.x.x and then devices connected to the router are assigned within that ip range. I finally manually played with the settings and still couldn't get it to work. Frustrated, I called Qwest thinking the problem was with the DNS values. That assumption was incorrect and generally Qwest DSL requires no tweaking at the router level. Qwest DSL tech support was great. They said it was a setup issue with the router and called Dlink's tech team on a Sunday morning and we had a 3-way call. Dlink's technician had me fixed up in 3 minutes. Here's what worked for me. Under the router's 'network settings' we set the router IP address to 172.16.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. If not checked, enable "DHCP Server". Under 'Wireless' set the Channel to 11 and the Mode to "Mixed" to support 802.11b,g,n. I set security to WPA-Personal. Be sure to save the configuration and this will cause the router to reboot. If things don't work immediately, unplug the modem to cold-start the system, wait a minute and finally plug in the router.Contrary to what someone wrote in a review, this router does indeed support wireless-N devices in a mixed environement and does not downstep to G for the whole network.Remember, you can't setup the router via wireless. You have to use an ethernet cable from your pc to port #1 on the router. Another cable runs from the router Internet port to the dsl modem. Before calling tech support, first confirm that the modem is working. Run a cable from the pc to the modem and confirm you can browse the Internet. With the modem eliminated as an issue, the tech people can quickly help you configure the router. I'm using Vista and the setup process did not require any Windows firewall changes so keep the firewall 'On'.I may be wrong but here's what I think the core setup problem was for me. The Qwest DSL modem uses a DHCP Default Gateway of 192.168.0.1. This is the same IP the Dlink router attempts to use as its address. Thus you end up with an IP addresss conflict since both can't use the same address. The Dlink technician changed the router address to a different subnet in 172.16.x.x and eliminated the conflict.

The title just about says it all. This router is easy to set up, with extremely clear directions and step-by-step guides. We're using it with a mix of PC and Mac clients, and even a Wii, and it performs flawlessly. Plus it's a great buy.

So I dumped my Netgear wireless G router -- as it was dropping wireless connections like crazy, and constantly needed to be rebooted to work.I liked D-Link in the past, and decided to go with Wireless N as my new laptop supports it.This router was cheap, and it seems most of the bad reviews are from people who just can't figure out how to setup a router (it's easy). So, some people are ripping on the setup disc... I wouldn't know anything about it, I never actually touched it.For anyone even remotely familiar with routers, this d-link is plug and play. Plug it in, and it works instantly. To set it up, ignore silly discs, and just log in directly to the router, D-Link has a wonderful admin panel.Just go to 192.168.0.1 and no password is required for your first log in. Setup a password on it, then go to wireless setting, create a WPA Personal password for that (if thats what you need) and voila, you have secured, wireless internet, all setup. I had mine working completely in less than 5 minutes. This router hasn't dropped a signal yet in over a week of use, with multiple wireless connections and all 4 wired ports being used (TiVo, playstation, personal computer, network hard drive)... Hasn't skipped a beat... fast internet. So please ignore the "can't set it up" reviews, throw the install disc away and just plug your computer in and use the onboard admin panel (d-links is VERY good).Highly recommend -- especially for the price.p.s. - I don't know much about the range, I have a 1200 square foot condo and it's full bars through the whole thing - so no complaints, if you have a larger house, you may want to consider the extended range version of this router.D-Link rocks!!!!

I finally upgraded my laptop to a MacBook with 802.11n built-in. Thus I eventually wanted to get a good N router at a decent price. I think $100+ for a router is simply ridiculous.Well, when Apple upgraded the 802.11x drivers for Airport in the 10.5.2 update, my Linksys 802.11g router with the latest firmware was no longer functional, as it would not connect at all. I verified that it wasn't the computer, as I took it to several different hotspots (Starbucks, Apple Store, etc.), and I was able to get online easily. It was at this point that i ran across this router at Target. Most places had it for $60 - $75. Target had it on sale for $49.99. Thus, even with the many bad reviews it has received, I decided to give it a test, and if I didn't like it, I'd simply return it back to Target.Well, I must say that it has definitely worked as advertised. The included setup software is bad. I'm experienced at tinkering with router settings as an administrator, so the bad setup software (which didn't work on my MacBook completely) wasn't that big of a deal to me.I connected my cable modem and Slingbox Solo to it. The high speed internet saw a dramatic speed increase on my MacBook. After doing several speed tests, I saw a 35-40% jump in my internet downloading. My Slingbox didn't work as easily as it did with the Linksys. The setup info for this router wasn't on the Slingmedia website. I contacted their tech support staff, and with the appropriate settings configured, she had it up and running perfectly within 2 minutes. Also, some other reviewer said it didn't work well in a mixed G/N environment. I have to disagree with that assessment, as I also have a Power Mac G4 connected to the network via USB 802.11g adapter, and I'm still getting N transfer speeds easily.Overall, it is a nice router at a nice price.

This is our first wireless router and it was so easy to setup. The instructions are step by step stupid proof (which is what I needed) and the range is great. We have a 2,500sf single level home and there is no place within the house or on our 1/3 acre lot that the signal is not 5 bars strong. We even took the laptop over to the neighbors house to test the signal strength and still got 3 bars strong.I'm pleased that we found such an easy to setup and affordable wireless router.

I've had no problems reported by others here.I have hardware revision B2 with the latest firmware 2.25.I didn't use the software that came with it just used a browser to configure the router. I had to select wpa/aes to get n speeds on my wireless pcs.Setup took about 30 mins.UPDATESince writing my review I ran into some problems. The problem appears to be with the DHCP server on this router. Clients are unable to connect unless you have DHCP turned on on the router, if you turn on DHCP clients loose connectivity after a while. After some experimentation this is what worked for me -- Turn on DHCP- Once all your clients (PC's) acquire an ip address turn off DHCP and set the ip address on the PC's manually ( turn off DHCP on the PC but not on the router).- On the router add all your PC's to the DHCP reservations list You will find this under Network Setup. This seems to be be working for me for over a month.

Despite the many neutral to negative reviews, I'm having a very positive experience with this router. It was easy to set-up and install (I didn't have to use the install CD). I recommend using the install CD if you're unfamiliar with basic networking. I'm not by any means a network genius. My favorite features was the automatic recognition of my SlingBox Pro and XBOX 360. On my previous router (Actiontec) I had to find tutorials by the manufacturers in order to manually input the correct port forwarding settings. This DLink automatically recognized and I'm guessing set the correct port forwarding information because both work perfectly. For $39.99 (Amazon.com, Circuit City as of 8/24/08) this N router is a steal! So far so good, the only thing I'll be concerned about is the quality - some previous reviewers mentioned that it worked, but then it broke...Overall, highly recommended.

This was the second router I purchased. The first one was by Netgear and I could not get it to work with my system no matter how many ways I tried to do it. Through many emails with customer service and still no results, I returned the Netgear. So in buying this, my greatest concern was the ease of install. IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN ANY EASIER than it was. I installed the CD, went through the directions as they instructed me and in about 7 minutes the router was up and working. I live in a 2 bedroom condo and have the router in the the farthest room from my living room with 4 walls in between and can view tv programs sitting on my couch with no delays. If I decide to sit outside and use my computer, the range is still just as strong to view YouTube videos and such. I HIGHLY recommend this router for its range and ease of install.

A router and a network card for such a low price? I was very skeptical at first.Router: I have a DSL connection, and everything has been working flawlessly. Of course, as with any hardware purchase, I had downloaded all the latest drivers/firmware from the manufacturer's site prior to install. I almost never end up using the software CD's that come with the package. I even had to contact tech support to help me set up my wireless network, and they were very helpful and got the issue resolved.Network card: Performance-wise the card catches so many more networks than my Pre-N card, it's not even funny. Also, when I VPN to my computer at work, I no longer need to do it using a wired connection. Yes, the network card is THAT fast.

I've worked with this for days and I and the rest of the house are SICK of it. I get it to work, then someone else comes along and it isn't working again. I have to reboot it, and re-reboot it, and re-re-reconfigure it and it is time to REFUND it.Don't know if it's just the wrong revision of firmware or not. I've had wireless routers that worked before (built in DSL modem, but now I'm on cable) and this is NOT how the product is supposed to work.

I had one of these for six months. I had to update the firmware to get the thing to work. After six months, it completely died. No lights, no nothing. It was covered under warranty, but I didn't save my receipt (I only file my receipts for major purchases), and I would have had to pay shipping costs and suffer the downtime anyway. The moral: You get what you pay for. Buy a good router and you'll be rewarded. Buy this at your own risk.

Hmmm. I don't know that I'd buy this one again.I got it home, didn't read anything, didn't put any discs in, put it behind my Motorola cable modem, cloned my Mac's MAC address, and it more-or-less worked off the bat. You know a few resets but mostly I think it was the modem's fault.I got it set up. DHCP with some reservations for two machines. Wired to my Apple TV, Wireless to a G5, PowerBook G4, Intel MBP, 2 Airport Expresses (in bridge mode just to stream music to them), and my iPhone. Seems great.Everytime you change your port forwarding, it's a modem restart though. In fact anytime you change any configuration, it's a modem restart. It's horrible. Granted you don't do it alot, but occasionally I'll need to poke a hole in my firewall to let FTP in or what not. Bringing down my internet connection to do it is a bundle of suckage.Worse though, connections are dropping. My G5 hasn't dropped yet, but the PB and MBP are dropping a lot. The logs only say "kernel: WLAN: MLME - Disconnecting (deauth) wireless client: ffffffffffff Reason 3" but without referring to the client with a MAC address or something I can't be sure what's dropping and why. I'll give dlink a call about this next week.So would I buy this again, probably not. Are there better out there, who knows.

This is an attractive router. I found it easy to set up, it has up-to-date security features and works well (except for the 802.11N issue)My problem with this router is that if you have any 802.11G devices in your network, then the network will run at G speeds, period (says customer support.) I have one network device that is 802.11G and non-upgradeable. I bought this router with a DLink 802.11N PCMCIA card to get my laptop running at 802.11N, however, the router will not talk N to the card in the laptop, because I have a G device on my network. Thus, while the router is now doing a fine job as an 802.11G router, I might as well throw the PCMCIA card away.DLink's web site says of the DIR-615 router that "Not only does D-Link's Wireless N technology extend your wireless range, it also works with your existing 802.11g wireless devices." It would be nice if DLink fessed up that mixed-mode doesnt work as expected. That factoid is hidden in a FAQ on the page for the PCMCIA card. I had to call customer support to learn this. They say there are no plans to upgrade the firmware to truely support mixed mode environments.

I bought this as an upgrade from my D-Link DI-524.This was the first mistake. The software requires you to disconnect (2 computers and 3 gaming systems) from your current router and be directly connected to the modem. So I had to now manually add a connection to Verizon. Why you ask? So it could connect to the internet to check my connection and for me to install their software to properly configure the router. Why would I disconnect from a perfectly working connection? So I did all that, and started to install. It took 3 restarts of my modem before the CD/SOFTWARE found a connection, not IE or firefox. When that was done, the software then asked you to hook up the new router. So I plug that in and then proceed with the software to "configure" the router. That did not work either. It took 4 reboots of the cable modem and 7 of the new router. So far, this new DIR-516 is off to a terrible start. After an hour I finally got it to work. Did I mention that I work in IT for a living? It would have been easier to just swap out the router, put in the IP address and configure. That would have taken less than 3 minutes.Anyway, back to this setup saga. The internet worked for 3 minutes. Then no pages would load, dropped connections, etc. The only good thing I've found with this router is that the wireless signal is strong.Do not buy this product. It is not worth the headache. I have great luck in the past but D-Link dropped the ball with this one. Definitely returning this awful product.

I was excited to get such a deal. Both the card adapter and wireless router for such a reasonable price. That excitement turned to anger when I was unable to get them to work properly. It would go in streaks, my laptop would not be able to connect to the router. I am fairly savy with computer so after much reconfiguring and messing with settings, I broke down and called tech support. Apparently the firmware on the the router was problematic from the factory. For those who do not know what firmware is, It is the software that the router uses to operate. Tech support was able to quickly walk me through downloading the new firmware. After that I reconfigured the router and everything worked great....... for a day. We still had consistant problems connecting the the internet. I gave up and sent it back for a full refund. I hear these work great with DSL, BUT because of the type of connection you have with a Cable modem. The connection comes and goes. If you have a cable modem and get this. Be prepared for some extra work, that might not get you anywhere......

I'm writing this review to help dispel the myths about this router. I read many bad reviews for this router after I ordered it. I got really anxious and started getting buyer's remorse, before I even had it in my hands. I received the DIR-615 today and immediately hooked it up, I transfered all the cables from my D-Link 'b' wireless router. I restarted my Time Warner Cable Modem and my Mac G4 computer. Everything worked fine. I checked the wi-fi connection to my iMac, which worked perfect, after I changed the network selection on the iMac. I then took my Titanium G4 Powermac to the second floor (the DIR-615 is setup in the basement). I got perfect reception 2 flights up. After checking all Wi-Fi functionality, I upgraded the firmware, from ver. 2.2 to 2.4 via D-Link's web site, all is well. no problems.

Until 2-3 weeks ago, I was very frustrated with this router. I purchased it from a retail store in June after my previous DLink (624) had completely failed. From that point on, I'd suffered from continuous connectivity loss. Our connection to DSL would stay up for 5 minutes - to 3 days (MAX). On a daily basis, I was restarting the DSL modem or router or both. I'd gotten to the point of purchasing another modem myself (ISP wouldn't help from their side) just to prove the DSL modem. Finally, I called DLink customer support and was told of the firmware update 1.1 [...].Installing this firmware update (for rev A routers only) has completely cleared my issues. Now the router performs as it should have the entire time. One bounce that cleared on its own since the firmware upgrade. Please do yourself the favor of upgrading ASAP upon use of this router!Of course, it sure would have been nice to have this severity of quirkiness ironed out before final product distribution, but...

I had to adjust some settings manually, it works perfectly fine and has excellent range. Network magic doesn't bother me and I found it had useful tips in setting up sercurity, after setup you don't need to use network magic if you don't want to.I think some people might have computer or spyware issues or interference with household applicances or their sercurity software. If you have a cordless phone switch to a 5.8ghz.All in all it hasn't dropped the internet. I had a linksys before and it dropped the internet 5 times a day and nothing I did to configure it with tech support worked and after a month I returned it and bought this d-link.

I have Verizon DSL that requires userid and password (PPPoE), Linksys Wireless B worked fine before I decide to upgrade. The D-Link was problem to begin with. First, the software requires your computer to be connected to internet already, then tells you to remove the old router, so if you already put away your old router, you had to reconnet the old, then start the software, and then disconnect the old, and connect the new. How retarded is that!. Second, once the software install is completed, the internet worked, FOR 1 second. I was able to go to the first web page, that was it. Then it will not work at all. I reinstalled, and did the same thing. Not really sure where the problem is, but it kept saying that my ISP account is incorrect/inaccessible, whichled me to believe it's the userid and password issue. So I exchanged for a Belkons G Plus MIMO (same price at Target for $60) next day, which installed in 5 minutes with zero drama.worked for a split second,

I have had this router for about two months with little problems. You need to upgrade the firmware if you have not. The only draw back is that my laptop has draft n and my wife's does not. This limits my draft n speed. It is very fast when set up for draft n only. If you are considering a draft n router for only draft n not older wireless, I would consider the dir-655? I belive that one can get 300mbps. I only get 130mbps with this one. Good price though if price is a issue.
