I should have known while installing, when the installation manual didn't match the software it was a sign of things to come. After multiple instalations, configurations, and calls to tech support (not helpful) I have an unrliable, slow router. I sit and watch the lights on the router and the internet connection light goes green (connected) and amber (not connected) like the signals on a traffic light (every 30-45 seconds). Watching the router sitting on my desk I attempt to connect to internet I get "failure to connect" messages so I have attempted multiple times in a row and one out of 3 times it will connect and while at the web site it will drop. A VERY unpleasant experience!!!! P.S. the connection was lost while atempting to post this review. This time I will watch for the green light prior to posting. LOL

This is the first and only router I've ever installed. I found the setup very simple and straightforward. I've had the router for over 2 years now and I used to go 2 or more weeks without any problem and then suddenly not being able to connect until I reset it. Lately, I've been having to reset the router 4 to 6 times a day. I have 2 teenagers at home who have smart phones, an iPad, 2 laptops, a Wii and 2 smart tv's that stream Netflix and other content. I suppose we get heavy use out of our router, but it's very irritating to have to go and reset it several times a day. If you plan to get heavy use out of your router you might want to look for something else.

I've never wrote an review here on Amazon, but this product changed my mind, since it is SOOO bad that I feel necessary to stop everyone from buying it. It needs constant reset and the signal is never reliable. My apartment is tiny and I put this thing in the living room. Can't even browse the web at a reasonable speed in the bedroom with the door closed. Don't even think about buying this, or any other product by Dlink. Seriously.

This router was perfect for the 1st month that I had it then it began to act up. I kept getting randomly disconnected from the WiFi and it wasn't connecting again! This happened on my phone and laptop. I had to keep unplugging it and then plug it back in and that was really time consuming and annoying. Then another month later it kept disconnecting like 2 times per day and it was so ***** annoying, even my mom threw this stupid retarded router on the ground. DONT BUY THIS ROUTER! I bought Factory Refurbished Cisco Linksys E2500 for $45 from amazon and it was way faster, better range and it was dual band and it was way better than this crappy d-link router! Never using d-**** routers ever again for the problems it gave me!

This is my second D-Link router (have had a D-Link N extreme N (I think it's a 655) at home for several years. It's been flawless, great power and coverage and excellent features. Picked up this D-Link (DIR 615) to use for remote control of a digital mixer via ipad (I do live sound and location recording). A previous router gave me intermittent issues with things dropping offline fo no apparent reason (when it would happen the devices would be in the same room, no real distance from the router and no obstructions).The DIR 615 has been as solid and reliable as my 655. Easy, reliable connection and no dropping offline etc... Very fast.Very happy with this.

I bought this for a neighbor who used it for networking and connecting their Wii for Netflix. Out of the box the unit performed well except for connecting to the Wii. The Wii timed out when trying to obtain an IP address from the router. After many attempts to tweek the firmware in the router I eventually upgraded the firmware to the latest version and that seemed to fix the IP address problem. Outside from the address problem and the not so intuitive GUI of the router, it does have a fast through put and performance seems pretty stable. Good value once the firmware is upgraded.

We bought this router when we moved to our new house and we bought it because we thought it was a good deal. We also liked D Link products back in the wired router days. However, this router took us hours to set up. The set up process directed us to the default way, which we tried 5 times and did not work. We then used the manual set up, and still couldn't get it to work. We then had to call customer services - it seemed that the issue was quite common, as the customer service representative was apparently reading a script and directed us through a fairly unintuitive installation process. They could have added the script in the set up manual. The router then worked for a few days without any problem, until one day it decided to disconnect for no apparent reason. We pretty much had to reboot the router 2 - 3 times every night. It was quite annoying. The speed was so-so. We were definitely not getting what we paid our IPS for (we later switched to a different router and the speed more than doubled), but it was enough for internet surfing. The reason we decided to finally return this was because our iPhones didn't connect to wireless via this router, and the customer service asked us to call Apple (we didn't have to because our phones connected via the new router we got).

I would have rated this router at zero stars, but that doesn't appear to be an option. It spontaneously reboots about every 10 or 15 minutes. I turned on debugging in the logfile. From the messages there it appears that dhcpc sends a reset signal to rc which actually resets the router. I consider myself relatively technical (BSEE, MSCS), so I don't think it's me. I run 2 desktops (windows7 and Fedora17), a laptop on windows7, a laptop I dual boot, and a netbook on Fedora17. All worked fine with my old (and might I add, free) dell router. This router just doesn't work. I'm returning it, and will hunt for something better.

I have several D-Link brand devices. This one is in a rental unt. I handed it off tot he tenant and they had it running in under an hour. It was inexpensive and they have been please with the performance.

I bought this because I wanted something simple, and this seemed like that fit the description. When I bought it and started to install it, the wizard told me that it had detected another router and asked if I wanted to replace it. I didn't have a router on it, but said yes just to move the process along.I got to a certain point in installation, and was told that I couldn't finish the job so I'd have to reboot and start over. I did, but nothing was different.So, I moved to the instruction manual, which had different directions than the wizard. That at least got a Wi-Fi signal up and running, even if going through the configuration process was very complicated. Never did figure out how to change the name of the network.A day later, error messages started popping up. The message said the main computer probably would do something terrible if I kept the new addition around. See ya.Off I went to the store, and exchanged it for a Linksys router. The installation couldn't have been smoother or easier to understand. It took about 15 minutes to do everything.Best 10 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Sets up easy and works. The range on it is horrible. At 50 feet away there is no signal on my ipod.I was able to connect in my driveway with my old router. I can not even see a bad signal on the front porch.If you are using it in the same room and do not want the whole house to have wifi it would be ok.

Worst router ever. Hands down. First the software isnt compatible with Mac post Tiger OS apparently, second, this router is a pain to set up. I spend almost an hour setting it up. Once this thing was up, my speeds tanked from 35 ms ping, 10-15 megs download, and 3-5 megs upload to 115 ms ping, .45 megs download, and .94 upload. This router is disgraceful and a waste of time and effort. Avoid at all cost, this router is a waste of money.

I was very disappointed with this router. It constantly disconnected my wireless clients and required a reboot to get things going again. The connection would appear to be still connected with high signal quality, but no actual connectivity. I upgraded all firmware releases and these never corrected the issues. These problems occurred even on a PC that was using the same series USB Wireless Adaptor (DWA 130) Forget about streaming any video from anywhere online, it always froze, even on wired connections.I even upgraded to DD-WRT firmware, which seemed to work a bit better, but never completely solved the issues. I ended up buying a low end CISCO Wireless N router for $20 used and it works much better. None of the mentioned problems ever occur.

For a refurbished model this is not bad. I seemed to have a problem with ethernet port number 1 not functioning but the other ports work fine and the wireless function is excellent. There is a minor amount of interference with my radio land line phone when I get close to the router. Overall the router is great especially for the price of $30.00.

The Amazon purchase was easy and I received the router only a couple of days after ordering it. I was excited to install it and enjoy using both computers online again. I followed the install disk and failed. I tried again and it said I needed to reset the router to factory presets. No instructions as to how to do this. Found a button marked reset and pushed it. Tried again and another hour of frustration. Let it sit for two days. In desperation, I read the manual. I could follow the first half of the manual but when they got to the PPPoE and etc, I was lost. Plugged the power into the router and waited for it to stabilize the lights indicating, I think, that it was booted up. I pressed and held the reset button this time until the lights again stabilized into a pattern that didn't change. I unplugged the router and again inserted the install disk. I followed the install instructions and this time I was successful. It was easy and no problems. I guess that as a refurbished unit, it needed to be reset correctly to work. Love it now.

Purchased to replace a netgear FVS-318 and airlink 101 configuration. Unplugged the netgear from the cable modem, plugged in the dlink. Manual configured dlink as I have a business class link with static IP. Wireless didn't work at first but with a little troubleshooting was able to get a link.With a wired connection computer and a wireless laptop side by side began surfing. Immediately noticed that both connections where having DNS link issues to sites. Would show the site not found and when I refreshed the site appeared. Began troubleshooting by turning off QOS. Improved but only marginally. This is when the trouble began.Started with the manual and discovered how poorly written it really was. User manual is an afterthought, poorly written with many explanations being of the type - "this function is offered but we don't recommend using it". So began looking around the management screen only to discover that menus don't always match functions and specific settings are not explained well by the user manual.So decided to call technical support. Bad choice. First call - change the MTU. No effect. Second call - your firmware needs updating - this despite having run the on-board update utility and it stating I had the latest. Downloaded the utility - which required reconnecting my old equipment up so I could get a stable link. Disconnected old equipment, plugged back into dlink updated firmware (this BTW on a Monday, the router was purchased on a Friday, must have lots of updates). Didn't resolve issue. Called tech support (3rd time) tech walked through every step the first tech did. Explained I had done all those items. Asked to repeat them again. Done, no change. Call again (4th time). Tier two tech support this round, same procedure as before. after explaining I had done the tasks twice, tech decided to escalate. Call new number. Now Tier 3, a real tech with real knowledge. First troubleshooting effort - do the exact same steps as the tier 1 rep had suggested. Back to square one. Try again (6th call) - finally some new ideas. Change the beacon interval and the RTS. No real improvement but it was a new idea. Every call required me to completely explain the problem and answer the same series of questions - this despite having and giving a trouble ticket number to each rep (apparently this doesn't have any info associated with it). So my end result - go back to the netgear FVS-318 and airlink 101 combo.While it is nice of dlink to offer tech support and I appreciate a company that does so - it has to be helpful support not just a script which is what appears to be the only method of help from dlink. Also, some usability studies on the management interface and manual would help their cause. The connectivity issue is well known and discussed numerous times online you would think d-link would resolve whatever the problem is or discontinue the product.D-link dir-615 is inexpensive but in this case not worth the money.

I looked up the model at dd-wrt.com, and new that is what I was going to use prior to hitting the purchase button. It flashed very easy, and runs dd-wrt flawlessly. All my N devices connect in a flash, as well as the old wifi G laptop and other items. Nice and stable without the stock firmware, and fast. I am very pleased with this purchase. At $15 for an N 300 router that runs dd-wrt, what's to complain about?
