This replaces a much older router and it showed me much greater speed on my network and to my cable modem. Plus adding open ports and especially playing LAN games it made this router a no brainer. I am so glad to get this router and setting up is a breeze. I just wished D-Link would add a blurb in the manuel for other non-Windows computers using a web browser to configure the router. Not everyone is network engineer and i bet the software included for Windows doesn't even work in Windows 7. Will someone please verify this please?

the damn switch drops connections after a while. it's like the connections are extremely slow. it took me some searching to find the cause was the switch. the replacement has the same problem, so it's the product which has the problem.

Pleased after some time working on the setup. The manual and the online support are not that extensive. I'm not using it for online gaming, but I have my iMac, Directv HR-21 and PS3 connected with Cox cable internet. The only issue I've had that I haven't been able to overcome is when Medialink is turned on and the Directv2PC constantly pings my Mac, even though they are not compatible. I can't seem to configure the router to deny access or file sharing between the two and Directv2PC cannot be turned off. Speeds have been excellent as far as downloading HD programs On Demand. Overall, I good multimedia router.

I wish I had seen these reviews before buying. The switch stops working until it is cycled. This problem occurs sometimes once every few days to several times a day. Considering the price of the unit and information provided by other reviews, its not worth the time and effort getting an RMA, I'm just going to throw it out.

HI,I don't quite see the value in this router, especially because you can buy a DLINK DIR-655 wireless-n router which has automatic QOS (quality of service) for a few bucks more.I basically wanted to get a wired router so I could plug my modem and my voip systems in my basement away from my home office...reduce the clutter. Then use a wireless router to create an access point from another location. However, this router left much to be desired....my speed tests showed that it was slower then the D-LINK DIR-655 which is a wireless router. Also, it may be helpful to note that the 4 ports on the LAN side are the only GIGABIT ports...the WAN port is still 10/100. The DIR-655 has all gigabit ports, including the wan port...... Its not a big issue to have a gigabit wan port since our inbound bandwidth is probably at maximum on 10-16mbps (cable/Comcast power boost).None the less...this is a good router and the limited QOS it has is excellent for gaming. I would look at the DIR-655 also.

There is only 1 flaw with this router. It couldn't really accept complex passwords using symbols. Multiple times I have tried to use a complex password and it appeared to save ok. Then it does not allow me to login anymore, and I have to do a router hardware reset.Other than that, this is the highest performing home router I have ever come across. It more than doubled my WAN speed from a previous router of which I used speakeasy to test with. It handles the priority listing very well. It also allow you to watch in and out-going port numbers on the fly, something lacking in many home routers.To top it all off, it has a clean interface. Only expensive enterprise routers I have worked with could match this device. My only recommendation is to hook this thing up to a nice gigabit switch to maximize performance.

On 07-04-2008 I purchased the D-Link DGL-4100 GamerLounge Gigabit Router in order to upgrade our SOHO network to Gigabit speed and because we don't need wireless capability. From reading other reviews I had hoped this was a good choice. No such luck. But you get what you pay for - in this case it wasn't much.Essentially Dead On Arrival, or more accurately non-functional it would constantly reboot itself (as some others have experienced.) I was never even able to get past logging in or attempt to update its firmware before it would reset - lots of blue light blinking. D-Link customer support had me spend 20+ minutes powering down, resetting, rinse, repeat, and then finally said "its defective, send back." So I did. I will not consider buying any D-Link products in the future. I would have rated it 0 stars if it was possible.Amazon was great as far as making the return painless and at no cost me.I ended up buying a commercial grade NETGEAR FVS336G ProSafe 4 Port Gigabit Firewall Router for about 3x the cost and have been reasonably happy with it. Netgear FVS336G ProSafe Dual WAN GigaBit SSL VPN FirewallIt does not have as many available keyword blocking entries as I would like, only 32, and its logging it a bit limited, but otherwise it works perfectly and has a metal case with a built-in power supply - one less wallwart - and a Lifetime Warranty.If you're willing to risk wasting a couple of hours only to find you have to send it back, then get the D-Link DGL-4100. Otherwise you might want to look for a commercial grade product instead of a consumer based one.

This router is easy to set up and works with playstation 3 nat type 2 with no problem -it was just plug it in and play....and it worked..I was so pleased....then the problems started..after the first day the router would not connect to the internet. i had to unplug my modem and all the wires and start from scratch to get it to run...and it would work without fail till the next time i started the computer or playstation ...i would have to disconnect the wires every time and start over again...to me this isnt a router...its a constant headache...got another brand that works great at half the price not from d-link ...please avoid this one..unless you dont mind starting from scratch each time you turn on your computer...or i guess never turn yours off...

Very nice speedy router............The only problem I had, different from my older one, was that I had to add all of my computer, printer and NAS MAC's to the device list before my network would boot reliably in the morning. All is well now.......

Installation was trouble free and simple. The configuration was easy and the menus made the process worry free. The router perform very well. Even though this product is labeled as a Broadband Gaming Router it is a good choice for home or small business users. I am using this with a D-Link DGS-2208 8-port switch connected to 2 PCs, 3 Macs, Apple Time Capsule, DroboShare and HP OfficeJet. No problems and great performance.

Powerfull and robust, this router is worth every penny. My ping times in most games are sub 70ms at all times. Loaded with great firewall options, you'll find this not your standard run of the mill consumer router. Between Gamefuel, and the security options your network will be faster and more secure than with other Linksys and Netgear options in the same price range.

If you want solid WIRED gigabit router...this is it. Period.Don't even look at the other Link, Belk company etc..with fancy words.All you need is this router, CAT6 cable.If you have several gigabit capable PCs to connect internally, then get D-Link 8 Port Gigabit Autosensing Switch.(No need for cross-over cable).

From the first time I got GTA4 I had so many problems connecting to a game, at first I thought it was the game itself but after doing some research found out my router BEFSR41 was the problem. So went searching on the internet and saw the D Link 4100 gaming router. I have a speedstream 5100 that I got from my isp which is not router friendly and just so amazed at how fast it was to get connected. DO NOT INSERT THE DISC, I know it says that but just go the internet address and do all the internet configuration on there it will save you alot of time and frustration. I was up and running in about 5 minutes, went to go check GTA4 and not one disconnection for about 3 hours, with my old router be lucky if I lasted ten minutes. If you have a wired connection and having trouble with your gaming then get this router believe me it is worth the $100 bucks. 10/10

UPDATE:After some research I see that the DGS-1008D is sensitive to power and the new printer was on the same circuit. Moving the printer to another power outlet solved the reset. I would upgrade the rating if the D_link web site had some information about what is a pretty widely publicized problem.I have had this product for a couple of years and never had a problem. This week I installed a wireless network printer on my router (which is down stream) and everytime I print from my XP latop the DGS-1008D D-Link swtich resets.The product is EOL so we will see if I can get any tech support.

I've had this router connected for about a month and it works fine for me. I'm not a serious gamer so the speed is probably a bit over kill for what I do (internet and file sharing which includes video). Wasn't real hard to set up. I'm happy!

I used to have problems switching connections between my wired PC and 360, my IP wouldn't work consistently at times for one or the other and it was a real pain. I had to configure network settings for either device to get online. It happened pretty often. I never have that problem anymore with this wired router, both devices could work at once and I never get lag issues on my 360. The set-up was EASY. I didn't mess with the configurations at all, it was nearly plug-n-play and worked just fine automatically. I just made sure to proiritized the 360 connection. Money well spent.

Had a linksys before which was decent, but not quite up to speed. I have 2 xbox 360's and two computers and had occasional trouble with lag issues online with my 360(especially when playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat). Used port forwarding and all other tricks and it helped alot but it didn't cure the problem. This is a gaming router and it lets you prioritize your different ports which so far has had amazing results! I have had no lag issues online since I got it. It was a little tricky to set up compared to the linksys, but well worth the effort. Buy this router.

After Comcast updated speeds in the summer of 2008 My Linksys routers and Vonage devices were failing.I purchased this and was a quick fix my upload speed is much faster. I monitored the speeds using several websites and my Vonage was working better then ever so far no more under water sounds or robot voices from using my VOIPI did have to change my sling box settings but that happens when you change routers.The only complaint I have is the blue bright lights are like lasers at night.I have to cover them with black tape.Perfect for the gamer my games fly from the Wii to the ps3 to my Xbox 360

At first I must not have plugged in all the plugs securely, and my speed was horrlble. So I unplugged and then replugged everything back in and it was back up to my normal DSL fast speed.So no problem. Works great.

We had been having DSL dropout now and again on our home network. The solution was to reboot the router and the DSL modem. Very inconvenient. When my brother and I hooked up two XBOX 360's with live online play on the same local network, the DSL crashed every time. After reading the blogs, I read that this router would help. It did indeed! We've been running for weeks, even months with uninterrupted service. This router is everything they say it is. We've got three computers and two XBOX 360's on line simultaneously with no apparent slowdowns and no crashes.

I loved and hated the settings on this router. It is very customizable and is the best and easiest I have used to turn on and off ports to foreward for a game. It swiches quickly and easily and even stores the ports you foreward for certain games on their for you so you can just check or uncheck the enable button to turn on and off that service. The router doesnt even seem to require a reboot after changing the port forewarding settings which is nice. The router reliability was MUCH better then my last one (I was using an fvs114 which required reboots every day)Downsides are that I get annoying error messages every so often saying something like "error missing a ; in line 107." I just had to keep hitting cancel for it to go away, but when I went to another menu it came up again. Also using safari (i'm on a mac) doesn't work well while trying to configure the router. Some of the buttons just wouldn't work for me so I had to use my pc or use firefox for my mac.Another annoying thing is that I couldn't get vpn to work with the router for a while. I was able to fix this by unchecking the IPsec option under the router settings because I guess it was conflicting with my vpn client. The number of preferences it has is a negative here because it takes a while to test all the settings and scrounge through the manuals to find the way to fix the issue.

This router hands down is a solid performer that beckons to be on radar. Configurability, performance, stability, firmware updates, D-Link has made a huge statement in a world of cheap routers that freezes, frustrates, and basically ridicules users that demand more out of their internet connection. Not sure if my Cisco CCIE VoIP certification makes any difference to this review but I can honestly say with what I do both at work and at home, I expect network device to perform to their specification and more. I also play hardcore online MMORPG with 5 accounts running through this router, no lag, no hiccups, performs like a star. A Router's first priority is stability, this thing is so solid, I wonder if there is something wrong with it. Without stability, nothing matters. With stability non-issue, next comes performance. When I prioritize my MMORPG traffic to 1 (highest priority possible), regardless of how many Torrent traffic in the background, or the 10 or so desktop/laptops that running in my home, this BEAST can take it. Functionality? I bought the LAN only version, no wireless, and I hook up my old Linksys Wireless-B router, disable DHCP, and this D-Link automatically detects, AUTOMATICALLY re-routes its network path internally, and can broadcast wireless network as an extension. READ: ease of use. Other functionality includes being able to lock down every MAC address easily, and assign easy to understand NICK NAMES to every individual laptops/desktops MAC Address with great organization and quick lookup for network troubleshooting. I like the ease of setting up Static IP assignments for key Gaming PC/Laptops that can be easily tracked, monitored, and configured for QoS applications. Though not as robust as professional software but I am able to track all TCP connections with their corresponding ports all in one convenient page. I am able to see if my little brother is downloading/uploading porn and shut it down if I pleases. Last but not least, the last update allows the router to update ANY/ALL changes WITHOUT requiring the router to REBOOT. THAT shot my rating up to the stars.
