I have had this for about a week now and it seems to work fine. I bought it to get a better WiFi signal and speed upstairs on a desktop computer. I have used lots of D-Link products over the years with no trouble.Install was easy with this "cable" method using the manual mode of the D-link setup wizard:1.Connect the 1360 to your router with a network cable to a spare router port or unplug something temporarily if don't have a spare port. This way you will not have to mess with your wireless password to see the 1360 on your network initially.2. Power up the 1360 and enter http://192.168.0.50 into your browser. You should see the D-link Wizard thingie open up on your screen. The factory password is set to blank so just press enter. The Wizard will open up to a set up page. I used manual set up. Set the 1360 to "range extender"3. Set your network details into the wizard: I have a 802.n network with one g device so I set things to 802a,g, n and the bandwidth thing to auto or 20/40.4. Enter your network security type (WEP OR WPA etc) and password into the the wizard and press "save" at the top of the page.5. The 1350 should store the info and probably reboot. Wait 5 minutes and you should have power, wireless, security and lan lights turned on at the 1360.6. Unplug the cable from your router and place the 1360 in the general area where you want range improvement. If you want to use it to connect another computer to your net, plug the network cable into the computer you want to add and turn it on.7. Once you get it working on your network you can always get back to it with theURL from above if you need to change a setting. CAUTION: IF YOU CHANGE THE WIRELESS NETWORK PASSWORD ON THE 1360 AND NOT ON YOUR ROUTER YOU WILL "LOOSE" THE 1360 AND HAVE TO USE THE CABLE AGAIN TO ACCESS THE 1360!With the 1360 connected to my upstairs computer I was able to double the data transfer speed to 100Mps from about 48.I gave it 4 stars since I could not seem to get 300 Mps even though I thought the 1360 is an 802.n device.Jim D.

D-Link DAP-1360 Wireless-N Range ExtenderI purchased this on an impulse without consulting other reviews. Big mistake. While I am not a networking expert, I have configured many other products before through intuition, trial and error, and internet research. Of course, here I had to bit the bullet and consult the manual, which happened to be useless. After an hour of experimenting and reading dozens of online posts, I was able to bring up the "wizard" that is supposed to ease connecting the device. The wizard failed to work properly, so I needed to delve into manual settings. The manual settings are inadequate. As far as I can tell, although the product manufacturers tell you to ensure that the device matches the channel used by your router, there is no option to do so. In fact, although the device is capable of autodetecting the details of existing networks (although only intermittently- I'd say 75% of scans turned up no networks and I was forced to rescan repeatedly after each change to detect my network, as well as the half dozen others near my house), and autodetects the channel used by those networks, it does not set itself to communicate on the same channel. Instead, it appears to cycle randomly through channels, as can be observed by refreshing the page that displays the channel. In the end, the product does not appear to have done anything. The portions of my house that are fast remain fast, and those that are slow remain slow. I purchased it because there is what was originally a dividing wall between two row houses separating a media room from the router. Despite placing the device in an area with excellent wireless connectivity and a direct line of site to the room in question, there is no detectable improvement in performance. In fact, I am unable to determine whether the device is functioning inadequately or whether it is failing to serve as an extender at all because nothing in the manual or the product website or firmware gives any indication of how to test whether it is working.I consider myself relatively literate with these types of products for an amateur. I suspect that the average customer who purchased this to bolster a home's wireless has virtually no chance of getting it to work.Even the support website for this product is broken and glitchy, and of course contains no useful content. This is pathetic and perhaps the electronics purchase I've regretted most of any I've ever made. Shameful.

I purchased and successfully installed this access point to extend the wifi coverage in an older apartment building that has a lot of concrete walls to a room where WiFi was spotty. I ran a CAT6 Ethernet cable from my main router to the room where the DAP-1360 is located, plugged it in and configured the range extender in Access Point mode. The D-Link documentation shows clear diagrams that help you select the setup you need. (Wireless) Networking can be complicated and from the product reviews I gather that not everyone understands the difference between wireless access points, wireless clients, bridges, or repeaters. Rule number one is that in order to share internet access, printers or other computers on network, you need to make sure that your main router, the one you got from your ISP, is the one that hands out IP addresses via DHCP. Fortunately D-Link has excellent documentation and D-Link equipment I purchased over the years never failed. There are good products from the major networking companies, but most failures are due to picking the wrong type of product or not configuring it right. Because this range extender works very well, has excellent documentation and setup wizards, and is priced right, I highly recommend it.

I was and still looking for a wifi booster/extender.Was highly recommended this in a shop and bought it on the spot but still didn't help with "wifi deadzone problem" of the room in the furthest corner of my house. Mine is an awkward shaped old house with walls, stairs and air wells everywhere.Bought another one thinking that if I put one somewhere in between the wifi source and deadzone room and with the initial extender that I bought in the shop one floor above the deadzone forming a wifi triangle my problems will be solved-- mistake and what was I thinking????!!!Seen reviews for other products that work like miracle for other people so will have to go back to drawing board to find that miracle booster.Fed-up!!!!

Executive summary: don't buy this product for use as a repeater, it's underpowered and provides a data rate only suited for light web browsing. At my home I have a DSL connection, router and NAS at one end of the house, a media center PC at the other end, and a number of wireless client devices throughout. I needed a good solution for wireless coverage that could handle enough data to play video, and a single AP at the router wasn't going to cut it. After reviewing AP+repeater offerings from several vendors, I ordered a D-Link DIR-825 and two DAP-1360 repeaters (the recommended configuration from D-Link).My experience: the DIR-825 works great - it supports 802.11n on two frequency ranges (2.4ghz and 5ghz), sustains a good data rate, is pretty easy to set up and has lots of nice router/QoS features. Unfortunately, the DAP-1360 repeaters are terrible, providing a 640kbps data rate (that's 0.6mbps, folks - or about 0.4% of the 802.11n rate) and no meaningful support for WPA2.I started by setting up a simple wireless network using WPA2(AES) and 802.11n+g. Immediately I discovered the DAP-1360 devices only support 2.4ghz - fine, that's pretty easy to discover from the product docs, but it does mean that you won't be able to get the '300mbps' data rate that the DIR-825 advertises. After updating the firmware of each repeater (a bugfix was required for WPA2 support to work) and configuring each repeater for the network, I tested the setup using a laptop with a wifi stumbler and a PS3 at the far end of the house. The stumbler reported excellent signal from the repeater, but I could not consistently receive data across the network. The PS3 would intermittently drop its connection despite 100% signal, and suffered constant DLNA protocol errors. Testing the actual data rate (by copying a 700MB file from the NAS to the laptop) demonstrated why: 6kbps throughput (about the rate of a mid-90's dialup modem).Concerned that WPA2 with AES was too much for the limited hardware in the repeaters, I reconfigured for WPA/TKIP. This got the throughput up to about 640kbps, still insufficient for video. Reconfiguring again for the insecure but very lightweight WEP instead provided no additional gains. Several other possible fixes were tested, including setting the network to 802.11n only, 802.11g only, switching channels, and using different security/encryption settings, but that data rate stuck - about 640kbps, unusable for much of anything other than web browsing. These devices are terrible. The killer application of 802.11n is video - and 150mbps should get you there, easily. But the actual performance of 0.6mbps (0.4% of the advertised rate) is unusable. D-Link should be embarrassed to ship these devices.

So I followed the instructions and it worked. But other things happened too. Computers that are always on and wirelessly connected to the router were suddenly displaced by the range extender, losing their addresses. I would try to reconnect and get messages saying the iP address was already in use. The addresses are supposed to be automatically assigned as available. I didn't think this could happen but it did. I had to remove the extender in order to stabilize my little network. I suppose I could figure out how to assign IP addresses to devices but this is too complicated and too much technical learning and solving to add this device. So yes it did work; it just didn't work out and it's in the garage now. Your mileage may vary...

First order was lost from amazon. Was listed as undeliverable. How this happened, I wil never know. I should have chosen the refund option before having the order processed again. At least amazon gave me next day shipping on the second order..... Well, the signal repeater was to be super easy to install. When you hear that, beware. Nothing seems easy to install. Mind you, I'm pretty computer savy, not an expert but I can read instructions. When the morons from D-Link support are reading me the same instruction and tell me " I must be doing something wrong" and they don't know what the problem is, there is an issue. You can never get an English speaking person that can understand you. You have to repeat the problem several times before you get the "I can't understand the problem". I'm trying to link this repeater to another D-Link wireless router that is compatable. I give up......I'm sure I will be putting this up on eBay.

We bought this unit to improve the signal strength for a new Blu-Ray player that is located in our den, downstairs and at the other end of the house from where our wireless N-router and PC are situated. We positioned the Booster at various places throughout the first floor, but the signal strength was not noticeably different at the Blu-Ray from what it was before we tried the Booster. We called tech support, but they wanted us to remove our router from the PC in order to directly test the Booster, and we were reluctant to do that because it'd taken us a fair bit of time to get the router (also a D-Link) to work properly. Tech support could then only suggest returning the Booster. We're very happy with the router, but we are returning the Booster. We're still looking for a way to improve the signal strength for the Blu-Ray.

The set-up was super simple with the D-Link DIR-615. I just used the auto configure feature by pushing the synch buttons on both units. It was up and running in 20 seconds. I now have a signal everywhere I go in the house. Before my iPad was cutting out downstairs when watching Netflix. It doesn't cut out anymore.

Bought this from a local vendor, despite knowing the horrible reviews it received on Amazon. Should have known better... Even after finally figuring out how to set up it up (instructions are horrible), and finally getting the firmware update right (you are supposed to know that Revision A/B/C on the website corresponds to firmware version 1/2/3), I found that the extender only slowed down my wireless capabilities. Ran Speedtest.Net app through Wifi on my cell phone, and verified from different locations with extender on and off - consistently got much slower speeds (factor of 2-3 times) with the extender on than with it off. Maybe in some twisted world this is supposed to make me feel good about my router (also a D-Link, whatever), but this product is just a waste of money/time. Will try an Amped extender next, can't possibly be worse than this.

It worked just fine... I have to agree with the rest of the people that wrote here, the instructions are rubbish, they should work on them! All of you that try to install it, it should be first done with connecting the wire to your LAN port to open the wireless ports, and you need to change the properties of your protocol to the same IP the D-Link has from the factory to get inside the wizard ... it is a great deal to work around it when you have no idea what you need to do! But once figured out the problem (though google and lots of helping reviews) it works wonders, now I have internet upstairs too, which is most important :)

The quick installation guide lacked a lot of detail, so minus a star for that. But I had a support tech on the phone in under a minute and she was very good, so they get the star back. I'm using it in access point mode with a Netgear powerline adapter and get very good signal strength on my iPhone and Kindle Fire - plenty to stream video on the Fire. I can't comment on how it works in repeater mode. Half my house that had little or no wifi connectivity is now network accessible.I almost didn't order this device based on all of the one star reviews, but I use D-Link's commercial grade WAP's at work and I have a D-link router at home and they're very good, reliable products. With Amazon's 30 day return policy I figured that I could always send it back if it had problems out of the box. The price is very competitive and I really like the fact that the antennas are external and detachable. Being able to upgrade the antennas is a big plus. I received hardware version B1 with firmware 2.10. If you look at the firmware release notes on the D-Link website there have been a lot of bug fixes since the product release. I also think that AP mode is inherently more stable and faster than repeater/extender mode because you have a lossless connection back to the router. With powerline network adapters you can place the access point anywhere you have an electrical outlet that shares a breaker box with your router.Overall, I'm glad I got it. It does the job quite nicely.

Bought this (not from Amazon) and just hated it due to inability of the router to assign IP's when in repeater mode in certain conditions (repeating some access points worked fine while others just did not work). While searching for a solution I came by accident on the following [ftp.dlink.ru], which contains a 2.13 revision that seems to have fixed my problems. I could only find it on the Russian ftp site, so no idea who put it there or why.Hope it helps. Good luck.

I bought this to extend the range of my D-Link DGL-4500 router. I have a long house and my office with the internet connection is at one end and the bedrooms, tv's etc are at the other end. It was a bit confusing to get everything set up, but I finally did. It worked great...for a while. Then, it would disconnect and I would have to go through the connection process over again. It would disconnect between 15 minutes to 4 hours. This is frustrating as we use netflix, laptops, ipods etc on the other end of the house away from the main router. After about a week of this, I decided to try another solution. I purchased a Linksys E4200 Refurbished Maximum Performance Dual-Band N Router and connected that to my internet connection in my office. Then, I connected my D-Link router via ethernet (where I had the DAP-1360 connected) to one of the ports on the Linksys. Now, everything works great. Once you set up your devices to automatically link to both routers, (as needed), you are good to go. So in other words, you can use two wireless routers with one internet connection and they don't even have to be the same brand. I hope this helps others in a similar situation.

Set-up is reasonably easy but it drops the connection ALL the time and it is nothing to do with signal strength (which btw has not increased for my wireless network..). From the same position it will have a good signal and then drop out after a few minutes and then come back again. So basically it is useless - a bit like the IP camera I bought from Dlink which ended up in the bin because it would never work either. I don't think Dlink test their products very well. Don't buy this. It gets one star because you can't score less.
