I don't usually bother to leave reviews, but I have to defend this adapter! I have an ASUS AC1900 router with 100Mbps (download) service and a horrible room with no wired access, which is, of course, the one room where the majority of devices will be used. I tried powerline adapters, range extenders and assorted usb adapters but could only get to 30Mbps max wireless speeds until I found this adapter. I'm using two, one on a Win7 desktop and one on a Win10 laptop - both consistently reach 100Mbps (which I check obsessively). I'm certain it's the D-Link enabling these speeds because the laptop is positioned in an area of the room that had been completely dead to any wireless signal at all with my other configurations!

The older reviews were probably based on previous versions, but if you purchased this within the last six months and aren't thrilled with your wireless speeds, it's likely you're blaming the wrong component of your network. Wireless adapters can only provide up to the fastest speed you're paying for, the fastest speed your cable modem can receive, the fastest speed and strongest signal your router can transmit, and the fastest speed your device can process. Make sure your ENTIRE configuration is up to speed!

I have had great success with other DLink products, so I decided to give this adapter a try. I had read other reviews of this adapter frequently dropping connections, but I didn't think I would have issues since the adapter would be sitting on my computer desk 3 feet from the router. The speed was excellent, and was the same as with a wired Ethernet connection (123 Mbps). However, the adapter would work for an hour or so and then the connection would drop. I moved the adapter to RIGHT IN FRONT of the router (i.e. 2 inches from it) and I would still get dropped connections. After two days of this I sent it back.

To get this to work with a later Linux kernel, you have to find the git repo and download it. My original review was not accepted, possibly for giving the URL as external urls are apparently forbidden, so I'll just say look for the rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux git repo. ArchLinux offers an AUR package for it. You probably have to reboot after installing the module.

Because of this, I was only going to give it two stars, however, it does, once the module is installed, give excellent speed. It's smaller than a standard USB.

EDIT: D-Link was nice enough to respond and suggest one get drivers from their site. I downloaded the zip file and tried the install.sh script provided, however it failed. While the zip file included a good deal of documentation, much of it seemed for Android and other devices. At this point, I still suggest the buyer using Linux clones the github repo and uses it, assuming you have kernel-headers and kernel-devel (on Fedora, and probably other RH based systems), it's just make, make install and depmod. ArchLinux has an AUR for it that also works. Neither Free nor OpenBSD seemed to recognize it, but I didn't investigate deeply. (Neither, with an Intel card that they recognize, is able to do 802.11ac speed.)

EDIT: After only a few months, (August) this no longer works. Both Windows and Linux machines (on two different computers) see the card, but it can no longer make a connection. As it was sold by Amazon, I've written them to see about returning it.

I read a few reviews before buying this, but was concerned that the speeds reported were low. Despite the rather low numbers reported in the reviews, it did seem to be among the best when compared with other devices, so I decided to go for it.

I'm happy to say that with the right equipment, this device performs much better than what I've seen in the reviews. I'm getting over 800 Mbps down, and over 900 Mbps up with this connected to my desktop computer via USB 3.0, WiFi via a 

This is a super fast USB 3.0 wireless adapter. I have a new router that is compatible with this devices new features. It is backwards compatible but if you have an older router or do not plan to upgrade your router to the newest models then there are cheaper options available. If you want the fastest network connection with the latest technology then this is it. I had one small problem installing it. I have Windows 7 still and I would tell you to download the newest software from their website and not use the CD. I had to uninstall the old software and reinstall the downloaded one then it worked fine. I tried it on my windows 10 laptop and it worked with no issue. I did have to call tech support which is outsourced. While he was able to get my device up and running it was hard to understand him.

Bought this adapter to replace an almost new, failing adapter -- a generic, postage stamp sized adapters which ran hot and died after 4 months. This D-Link adapter (DWA-182, ver C) is the size of a pack of gum. It has ventilation along both sides and is only slightly warmer than room temperature.

My internet service operates at 80 Mbps when connected with ethernet cable. This adapter operates at 40-55 Mbps with a USB 2 connection, more than enough for streaming video, etc.

Caveats, but not cons, this design is several years old. The "new" box I received was soiled, perhaps from years sitting on a shelf somewhere. I have only tested it with N-speed wireless, but it claims AC 1200 capability. Win 10 installation is painless after downloading the latest driver (the install disk will not work with Win10). If you don't need the higher speeds. I recommend this adapter over the newer designs because of it's better ventilation.

I am trying to use this for my media center and I find the connection to my router that I can actually see about fifteen feet away to be slow and troublesome. I do have an ac router by the way. This thing also takes up to ten minutes to connect after waking my box up. The drivers are flakey as heck. Please buy something else. I want to update my review of this Wi-Fi Adapter. I removed and deleted the driver I installed from the CD and rebooted the computer with my older adapter connected. Then when I plugged in this adapter, Windows downloaded and installed its own generic driver and it has worked very well ever since but at a much slower speed. I spent my money to increase my speed and stability of connection, and this adapter did not deliver on that front.

The router I got for use this with, also by D-Link, works fine. But this piece trashed my Lenovo Y500 gaming computer with a BSOD. Couldn't uninstall the software, couldn't delete the files. Had to go into Safe Mode, delete the files manually, and do a system restore from that mode. (System Restore from the desktop failed twice.) Pretty sure I followed all the instructions, but even if I made a mistake, the results should not have been this catastrophic. The built-in WiFi is 11N, and I wanted to upgrade to 11ac. I know the built-in drivers (Intel) were turned off. When I finally got the system back, there were screens and screens full of error messages in the Event Viewer, all referring to a COM error that must have been created by the drivers for this device. Use with caution. I'm not taking a chance again. Back it goes.

On the basis of other reviews of this product, I was hopeful I would get the revision C1, which has more mature Linux drivers (rtl8812au) than the D1 I was sent. The D1 version requires rtl8822-bu drivers, which have rather less support and do not work with the openwrt distro I had in mind. If you get a D1, expect to have to download and compile your Linux drivers from source. Hope this info is useful to someone.

I bought this a few weeks ago, and it's been nothing but problems since. I have a dlink router, and this thing constantly loses connection with it. The router is on the 1st floor, this adapter on the 2nd, but the straight line distance is only about 20 feet. My other adapters work better. When it's connected, it's very fast, but it CONSTANTLY drops. I called dlink support when I first installed it, and they had me disable all other adapters, which helped, but still didn't solve the problem. Per recommendations on this site I also uninstalled the dlink software. When it drops as much as this does, only the windows wifi manager remembers the password...the dlink software forgets every time, making reconnecting that much more frustrating. I have no idea what the actual issue is. What I do know, is my Onkyo adapter designed for my receiver works more reliably than this.

Best in this budget segment.

This thing rocks. I stress tested it by downloading and seeding a few Linix torrents at fulls speed. 50mbps down and 5 up. I let it run all day and not a hickup at all. I then plugged it into a laptop running Linux Mint and it just worked. My only advice to windows users is to skip using D-Links software. Instead use device manager to browse the CD for the driver or better yet download the latest drivers, unzip them (but do not run any program) and browse. If you are uncomfortable with that then use the software. I just don't like having extra stuff running on my machines.

The country of origin is CHINA and not INDIA as mentioned.

I read a lot about this unit before I bought it but none of the negative reviews affected my reason for purchasing. I just wanted to boost my wireless reception for my PLEX media player and I own a D-Link Dual Ban Router...I thought this could only make things better.

Contrary to other reviews, the software installation was trouble-free. The setup wasn't bad, but I'm fairly tech savvy...my real problem with this is that I saw NO significant difference in my signal boost...but more importantly, the software IS ALWAYS RUNNING AND SPIKING...if you need to use your PC or laptop that this unit is connected to...be prepared for some anguish.

Bottom line, I am NOT a fan of this product. I removed it and uninstalled the software...and my laptop is the better for it...a waste of money for me. Heck, I would even consider giving away for shipping cost...I know that's harsh, but there it is.

Not satisfied, range very less even not getting with in house also.

I got this to convert my Synology DiskStation to wifi.

It was plug and play. I just plugged it into the NAS's USB port and configured it under "Wifi" in the Settings app.

The signal is consistent and fast.

Now that I've converted my last device without wifi I was able to get rid of my switch and all the cables.

Performance is very good and best support from D-Link call centre to configure the router.

This adapter works great with my new HP computer which does not have a dual band adapter (and it's very difficult to access for replacement).
I am using Windows 10...went to the D-Link web site and downloaded the installation package. It installed and runs like a champ. So many reviews said it didn't work with Windows 10 that I was reluctant to order it but I was anxious to try it out with my new D-Link dual band router. Over the years I have found that matching brands with computer gear usually has fewer problems.

I also saw a recommendation that the internal wireless adapters should be disabled but I'm not sure it's required. It appears to function properly with the internal adapters enabled so I don't bother with changing the settings.

Too expensive, quality is not good.

This USB WiFi adapter works great. Easy to setup. Works great. I'd buy it again. All my WiFi adapters always last between 2 to 3 years and burnout (like light bulbs I guess).

Router is looking good and working fine.
Lot of improvements are required in app side..
I am using 100Mbps speed but I don't see any performance and coverage difference compare with my old router dir-825

wifi range is very too less for 700 sq feet house.
wifi range is just 20 feet.
