My wife and I are very happy with the camera. The quality of the pictures are very good (even in very dark places). You can take pictures very quickly. The camera has an excellent zoom and very good flash. Yet it is not an SLR. It is a very good camera if you would like to take pictures on vacation, if you want to photograph people, animals and landscape.

I had already a Canon SX40, which was good. I bought the sx50 because of the larger telephoto and superior image stabilization. So far I had only the opportunity to shot a few photos and the sharpness and stability are within my expectations. Only one problem. There is something with the shut on/off, since sometimes its failed to on or off, but taking the battery out / in its works fine. It is the same replacement battery I used for one year in the SX40, so the problem is not here. I'll continue checking it before taking a decision about what to do. Anyway, the zoom is so good that my problem now is city atmospheric haze, which after 200 meters distorts somehow the picture sharpness. I have to take the camera to the countryside!!!!!!

The features that attracted me to the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS are perfect (50x optical telephoto, hot shoe, TTL viewfinder); however, I would prefer that the camera did auto-stitching for panoramics (my Motorola Droid cell phone - 8 MP - does!).

Excellent camera, be sure to get the 'cheat shee' item to make familiarization easier for the novice. Taking some great photos and having lots of fun doing it!

everything a-ok so far. no hot shoe cover in the box though. wish the flash popped up on its own but that's not a major deal. just got the 32gb extreme sdhc card today so we will see how videos turn out as well. Lots of features, incredible zoom. will update more after taking newborn pics and seeing how that goes.***update*** the case logic DCB-304 case works but it is a tight fit. I managed my charger, card reader, extra battery, mini flexi tripod and camera in the case but it is snug getting in and out and that is all that would fit. For my needs I would go with something a tad bigger but I will make do for now.-videos look great even when zoomed, just need to try watching them on my tv to see how they turn out.

Really like this camera. The zoom lens has great depth of field and is not the cruel joke many super zooms on the market are nowadays. With a fast enough SD Card 80mb/s+ full 1080p high def video is possible. At around 30mb/s 720p is good quality. Stereo Sound recording is a plus. Last but not least, it's great to get a point and shoot style camera that is capable of taking RAW format images. Took this camera to Alaska and got the best eagle pictures of my life with it. Canon has a winner here!

I bought this for my girlfriend who doesn't have much photography background other than her $100 point and shoot. The photos come out clear as can be, and the zoom on this camera still amazes me. A great buy!

I haven't had a good camera for quite some time. This PowerShot is a very good camera for all the variety of photo opportunities. A nice deal w great potential.

Great camera for travellers,, fast shooting ,, best thing i found is ,.. one can zoom while taking video.. which i have never found this feature in this type version of cameras before

The camera was broken when I got it. The package wasn't protected as it should be. It had only one air bag.

I don't understand why no one has run into problems with the lens focusing system. I am on my 3rd one of these and the focus is still soft. Hair is not that distinct unless I very strongly sharpen the images in post production software. The first one was terrible, the 2nd and 3rd so-so, but softer than my previous 2 digital cameras [a Lunix LZ5 and an Sony H20]. And I am using either "P" mode or "Tv" mode and setting the focus to spot mode.It does produce rather low noise images at ISO 400 and even 600. But I can't get anything really sharp.My guess is the quality control is bad... or few of these 200 plus reviewers here actually look at images at 100 percent.I am reluctantly going to the more expensive Lumix F200 even though i can barely afford it.

Placement of buttons may cause the user to accidentally hit one causing the camera to behave in an unexpected manner. Auto mode is pretty much useless. Auto-focus does a poor job. The camera will not focus rapidly enough to catch fast moving images.Sorry I purchased it.

I purchased the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS to use on a recent trip to Namibia. I was extremely pleased with the photos I took with my camera since I am not an experienced photographer. I did make some mistakes with taking pictures in very strong sunlight. They turned out a bit washed out but this was due to my lack of expertise. However, overall most of my pictures are way above what I expected. I was taking pictures through vehicle windows and of birds/animals at great distances. The stabilizer was excellent and I did not use a camera support at all. I would highly recommend this camera.

met all my expectations with no problem, i would recommend it to anyone thinking of purchasing a bridge camera. i would say only one step down from a aps-c camera

I did a lot of internet research to find a good quality camera. I have friends with camera's with very large & heavy lenses that need to be put on and removed. I really like the zoom functionality of this camera. I also takes pictures well in low light.It does not have the sensor size or some of the functions of a more expensive DSLR. But, for my purposes it is great. Used on July 4th and got some really nice fireworks shots.

I realize that this isn't an SLR - I'm an amateur Mom-tographer and didn't want to bite the bullet for a full-blown SLR. Besides - a megazoom seems like the right idea for shooting pics of my kids in sports and such. So - that said - I had a Sony, the plastic button broke on it. Next, bought a Nikon and the battery would start loosing contact and shutting off. Tried several trouble-shooting suggested by other users to no avail. My hubby bought me this one - it is noticeably more sturdy. Hoping it'll last longer than the other two. It has so many cool features, it's mind boggling. Very cool camera. I'm so excited to use all of it's features (well, the easy ones anyway!) Shutter speeds are much faster than either of my previous cameras and even in it's point and shoot mode - it is noticeably better. LOVE it so far - only had it a couple of days, but so far, it's impressed me. Image stabilization is nice from what I can tell - have to shoot some sports pics from the stands yet to tell you if it'll do a better job than my previous cameras. From my excursions the last couple of days -I believe it will out-perform. May add to this review - or re-review later - but so far so good.

I love this camera! I worked with my sister for five years in wedding photography and I am a artist. I have used non digital and older digital cameras before (Canon and Minolta.) I love the minolta because I trained on it and knew that machine inside and out, but it was an older camera and I needed a new camera that I did not use film. The zoom is a very nice feature on this camera, and the clarity is superb. For the price the camera is a steal.

I am no expert but I think it takes great pics. I bought it for the zoom capabilities to capture wildlife and it has not dissapointed. The detail it captures is great and even when doing 50x zoom being hand held it can capture a good pic. Some have been a tad unclear but I blame myself being hand held going out that far on the zoom not the camera itself. It gives you a lot of options which I am still learning about but for a point and shoot it is a nice starter. The view finder is a liability so I use the LCD 100% of the time. All my time has been outdoors so no comment on the flash. I did a lot of comparison research with an entry level DSLR and while a APS-C sensor would be great the zoom won out for what I want to do.

Got tired of the pictures provided by my cell phone. I wanted something that could take pictures in low light situations with a good zoom. The SX50 has more than met my requirements. On top of taking great pictures the SX50 has taken some great night time shots especially on the Fourth of Jul and with the powerful zoom, it seemed as if we were right inside the explosion.

I love this camera. I have had a couple of weeks to play with it and actually also got a book on digital photography to get a better handle on all the lingo and functions on the camera. It's a bit overwhelming and I have barely scratched the surface but the pics that I have taken are incredible. It gets a bit frustrating at times as I accidentally hit/change something and then don't know how I got there but that's not the camera's fault, more my novice experience. I have taken some amazing night shots of the moon (handheld), very impressive.

the telephoto lens give me a real advantage forf nature pictures. I have owned many cameras , and this is the best ever. It is alittle bulky, but pays off.

This is a perfect middle road camera-between a small point and shoot and an SLR. The 50x zoom is amazing and very stable even when zoomed in at low light.The monitor is super easy to see even in bright daylight but viewing through the viewfinder makes it even nicer. Using the diopter to adjust for those who need "reading glasses" is a phenomenal feature.I love the articulating monitor. It lets me see what I am looking at from above a crowd, around a corner (stealth-like), or from my lap where no one knows I am taking photos and therefore they still act natural. It is even lighter weight and slightly smaller than the earlier models with lesser zoom ranges (i.e. SX30IS). I love this camera!
