The door for cable connections is flimsy. I opened it once and had trouble closing it. Had to force the top clip to engage. Buy a card reader ($10 or $20) and forget about the cables. Overall, great camera and great photos.

The photos are crisp, clear, and with accurate color.
The only glitch I found was a user error which caused me to delete my pictures twice. I thought that "format" meant to change the size of the picture resolution, and when I hit "ok" it totally wiped out the pics. I think it should have a "are you SURE you want to erase the contents on your camera?" message to prevent this from happening.

I like it. However I'm lazy in learning all the functions it has it was easy for me to take pictures and transfer them to CPU etc. The quality of pictures is great especially when they are made outdoor.
The only my problem was that I didn't order the charger and memory card with camera together. I had to buy it separately. Also there was no case for camera and it's difficult now to find suitable case. I like camera to be protected.
I like my camera and if you need nice small camera to carry with you everywhere this one is for you.

4 megapixel camera and am blown away by the improvements over that period.
Canon rocks!

Lastly, the battery life is excellent - one set of standard Energiser AA batteries did me for a two week holiday - and that was with a fair bit of looking through previously taken pictures. Rechargable NiMH batteries work well too.
I can't really think of any downsides ....

I will never lose any pictures with this camera. I like the way the photos look when you print them. Looks like they came from a photo shop.

I have just returned from a 3 week trip to India. The S80 blew me away! I am so impressed with the camera's features that I have decided not to buy the Canon 20D digital SLR! For starters, the S80 packs a mind boggling amount of features. Just like Canon's SLRs, the S80 goes from fully automatic to fully manual. I have never before owned a point-and-shoot that allowed me to fully control the shutter speed and aperture. Sure, the S80 does have limitations vis-à-vis Canon's $1,000+ digital SLRs (for example, the shutter will only stay open for 15 seconds max). However, for the serious amateur (or a photo novice who seeks to improve his/her photo taking skills), I think this camera is perfect. It is surprisingly easy to use with intuitive features, especially if you are used to Canon's mode settings. I was pleasantly surprised with its flash. I can increase and decrease the megapixels of my pictures with the push of a button. The S80 is a bit thicker, and heavier than other 8 megapixel cameras. But the slightly increased size and weight is well worth the added features packed into the S80. I bought a CaseLogic pouch and carried the camera around my belt for three weeks, no problem at all. Finally, the zoom is "noisy." But seriously, who cares.
Oh, one more thing...be sure to buy a 1 gigabyte SD card that has at least 133X speed. The 32MB card that comes with the S80 is woefully inadequate considering that (a) you can only fit about 8 pictures at the 8 megapixel setting and (b) the card is extremely slow as compared to 133X speed cards.

Pros:
Fantastic image quality
Features offer lots of user control
Tight macro mode
8 Mega Pixels offers lots of post processing options
4X optical zoom
Great battery life
Uses AA batteries (4)
Sturdy lightweight construction
Swivel LCD is shweet
Price/performance ratio
Cons:
Poor low light performance (need tripod or flash)
ISO 400 and 800 have too much noise to be usable
6X optical zoom would be nice
JPEG compression No RAW
No battery meter

We recommend this if you want a heavy duty camera - it isn't tiny, but it fits in my purse and best of all doesn't break at the first drop! :-)

The movies were in focus and could pan across the room etc without 'shaky' effects. Complaints - well make sure you have steady hand to take nightshots using the night-time mode as any shake will be visible and also avoid using the zoom at night as much of the detail will be lost. It is a suberb camera for the price and it is important to play around with it until you find the best settings for you. I am only giving it 4 stars because of the problems taking photos at night - perhaps that is a bit harsh of me but I have high expectations from Canon. If your budget is about £250 then this is the camera for you. One last point - many digital cameras only have 3x optical zoom and this has 4x. A higher optical zoom is better than a high digital zoom.

been very disappointed. The resolution was not sufficient, and the outdoor color was washed out looking. A lemon? I don't know, but Amazon allowed me to return it, Thanks Amazon!
All in all, I could not recommend this camera.

However, I did notice that Amazon raised the price of the 620 about 20% and the 630, which looks the same, but has nearly 15% better resolution, is priced a few dollars cheaper. I have thought seriously about buying a new 630 and giving the 620 to my favorite nephew.

I love this camera. I do not regret buying it. I travel all over the world as I currently work on a cruise ship. My old point and shoot was compact and convenient but took horrible low light pictures (low light meaning anything that was not outside). It was stolen so I needed to buy a new one.
I am a bit of a tech head and love gadgets. If I had my choice I would have bought the Canon 20D as I have been drooling over it for some time. But, the 20D is not always convenient for going to the beach, etc... So I bought the best point and shoot I could find. This camera is awesome.
That being said it also broken now. I only got about a month of use out of it. The problem starts with its size. Sure it fits in your pocket but is definately bulky. Basically what happened is that while it was in my pocket the slide cover slipped up and the telezoom lens tried to go out (this happens everytime you turn it on). It being in my pocket kept it from doing so and now the motor is broken and I have to send it for repair.
This was completely my fault as I was a bit careless.
I just want to warn those of you who want to be able to put this point in shoot in their pocket... DON'T DO IT!!!! Buy a case!
Otherwise, by all means, buy this camera. I love it and can't wait to get it fixed.

As others have mentioned, the cover over the AA batteries and SD card is a bit flimsy, but otherwise the camera is solid feeling. One other minus: visible time and date stamps can be printed only at 1600 X 1200 "Postcard" resolution.
Auxiliary lenses are available from Canon for this camera, though I haven't bought any--yet. Suggested accessory: a tripod or monopod if you're doing pictures in low light.
