The problem is that in five days of playing with it and taking maybe 20 pictures and maybe 10 minutes of video, I went through 8 sets of Duracell batteries. So when I got home, I bought some 2400mAH NiMH rechargeables. Took 5 pictures and the next morning it said my batteries were dead, so back to the store it went (I got it from Best Buy, which I will never do again. Their return policy is 15 days for cameras and a 15% restocking fee if it's opened. Costco has a longer return policy on chicken salad).
The only downside I found with this camera is a 4X optical zoom which is not enough for distant animal shots or extream range pictures such as at the racetrack for example. This camera takes beautiful pictures with vibarent colors the rest of the time. This camera is great for most kinds of pictures and it has the anti-shake feature that saved many of my shots.
When I print out my pictures I find that the 5 megapixel is not a problem. However if I print anything bigger than an 8x10 the quality begins to fade and the pictures pixelate. For most people like myself, it is not a problem. Many of my shots are scenery or point and shoot. This camera will not print for poster or large commercial publicity venue. In that case use another camera but for all the rest I recommend this Canon 530.
If you aren't a pro, this may suit you for a while.
after that there is no other complaint.
During my holiday trip, I forgot to pack my camera and was forced to buy this one as a temporary replacement. From the very first photo, I started having horrible experience. The night scene mode capptures extremely grainy images - nowhere close to what's expected of a 5 MP camera. Each picture takes 30 seconds or more to be saved - so you really cannot take more than 2 pictures per minute. Yes - not 2 pics per second - but 2 pics per minute. That is unacceptable by any standards - right? In addition, it has a terrible time focusing while taking nightshots.
I am increasingly finding it difficult to accept that Cannon would manufacture such a low grade camera. May be I was unlucky to pick up a defective piece - and I sure am going to return it soon.
