Had camera for 18 months, great camera, excellent photos. However it was only used occasionally for family occasions, holidays etc. It developed a fault, the lens stuck out and E18 error appeared on the screen when on holiday. I expected better quality from a Canon, especiaccy when I paid the extra money to purchase a reputable brand.

I'm just starting out with a "real digital camera". This is a perfect camera for learning photography. Or for a quick point and shoot. My mother is a photographer and a friend of mine is too and they both like it alot with all of the features it has. I'm learning alot on this camera and it's been fun! The first A630 had a problem when I recieved it, the flash wouldn't work and the Canon tech support was a big help, and they were suprised that it was defective (very rare) they told me. No problem with exchange from where I got it. Battery life is excellent with plain old alkaline, but get rechargeables. Video mode is very nice and I love hooking it up to my TV. Macro shooting is the best as well as night shooting. I've made some crazy light trail shots of moving cars at night. Can't wait to try it during the Fourth of July fireworks! The LCD screen is great and the view finder is nice too, actual it zoom in as well. Like I said it is the best camera for learning on, it will show you if you make an error before you shoot. It also has a quick startup, and you have alot of custom features on it. The software it comes with is easy to use. I'm a firefighter and I can't wait to try it on a call or training. Awesome camera....get one!!

I had a friend who had the A510 and I loved it but it was only 3 megapixels, so I was going to buy the A520 but I decided to wait for a higher megapixel version to come out. The A610 was too big, so I continued to wait. Finally the A540 came out. I read online reviews for it before it was in stores and decided that I was going to buy it.

I've had it now for a little over 2 months, I haven't had any problems with it. I've dropped it twice and I haven't noticed any defects with functionality...like with my last digital camera, after I dropped it the 1st time it stopped working properly. Anyway this camera is great for beginners and has some stuff for people who like to go beyond using the auto button. The start up time is good. If you take a picture with the camera horizontally, when you're viewing the pictures, the camera automatically rotates the image to be right side up, so you don't have to turn the camera. There are many different settings but I haven't really explored all of them. So far I only really have two complaints:

- Flash recharging time, and battery life

If in conditions where you have to use the flash a lot, be sure to carry extra batteries because it kills the battery much faster. regular betteries die quickly in this camera...be sure to buy rechargeable. If the battery is dying the flash takes what seems like an eternity to recharge which is really inconvenient at parties and other functions where people are not standing and posing to wait for you to take the picture.

Oh yea and sometimes when viewing my images, the camera toggles between two images before settling to the next image. I consider this a minor problem because it rarely happens. I don't experience that problem with the memory card that was mentioned in one of the other reviews, if i am putting it in incorrectly it will not go in the slot, then I quickly realize that I am inserting it wrong.

Hey everyone. I just got the A550 after having a three year old 5.1MP camera from Canon, same body and similar features. So far I love my new camera; I don't think you'll find a better camera for the price. Also, I shopped around and most stores no longer carry them (the A560 and 570 are the newest models, priced around $200+, and the only major difference as far as I can tell is that they have image stabilization, a new feature). If you have a steady hand I'm not sure how much of a difference this would make. As a poor college student I was thrilled with the price and quality of this purchase. Enjoy!

this is a great great camera..i purchased this camera by other reviews that i read...very easy to use... easy to download pictures...if your looking for a basic point and shoot this is the camera to pick, and it takes beautiful pictures.

first of all, you need to buy good batteries for this camera. I bought a 100-pack of cheapies and they don't last but a few hours- if they work. Good batteries like energizer will last you a few weeks. I own a Mac and the pictures transfer easily onto iphoto. the 4x optical zoom is a nice improvement from our other 3x zoom on our sony. I was able to buy a 2GB memory card for $20(sandisk) from here also. There are also high speed cards available. I'm already satisfied with the standard one. I don't do a lot of "quick" shots anyways.

Only one drawback. The video doesn't show up on my imovie. maybe I need more experimenting. I just assumed it would be as easy as the pictures.

Overall, I am surprisingly satisfied with this canon product. Especially after being a sony fan for years.

This was a perfect gift for my niece at a great price. She is 13 years old and loves to take pictures of her friends and her just "hanging out". This is good starter camera with all of the features that a teenager needs!

I originally had a different version of this Canon camera with only 6mp and my darling daughter accidentally threw it away! By the time I realized it, it was already at the dump and had been rained on for days. Sigh. I loved that camera. I looked for the exact one on Amazon, but couldn't find it. I found this camera and it was HALF THE PRICE of my first one and had more megapixels - looks almost exactly the same. The first one I bought at Best Buy for $300! Sheesh! OK, so I ordered this one and got it within just a few days. It takes GREAT pictures and is as easy to use as my old one. I am a teacher, and I use it a lot. A teacher friend of mine saw how great and clear the pics are and bought one, too! You won't be sorry if you buy this one.

I spent 30.00 extra to get this product expediated to the person I bought it for. The product was delivered 10 days later rather than 3 days; thus, the present didn't reach the person I bought it for in time for their birthday. Therefore, I would advise ordering this from another company if you need it delivered on time!!!!

This is my second CANON power shot camera, my last one was the A80. I would still have it but it was stolen. The build quality of the A630 is very good and feels solid. The camera takes fantastic pictures and is easy to use. The manual is very well written. Great product and very rugged!

I love this camera very much. I just purchased a week ago and took with us to Disneyland. I didn't get a chance to read the instructions before the trip. This camera definitely is a user friendly camera. I am no tech person at all. It was very easy for me to take pictures with two young kids.
I ended up took a lot of pictures without flash and they all turned out great. Of course, it would be a good idea to know the camera before trip. :-)
If you are looking for convenience, this is the one. I am going to check out the underwate casing and hope to take this camera for scuba diving.

AFTER MANY MONTHS OF PONDERING I DECIDED TO GO FOR THIS CAMERA AS REVIEWS WERE GOOD. WHAT A GOOD DECISION! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CAMERA.THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE AMOUNT OF BATTERIES IT USES (4) AND NO IMAGE STABILISATION, BUT THESE CAN BE OVERCOME BY INVESTING IN RECHARGABLES AND A BASIC TRIPOD. THE BEST THING IS FINDING NEW THINGS EVERYTIME YOU PICK IT UP. THIS IS MY FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA AND I AM OVER THE MOON WITH IT. IT IS AN IDEAL CAMERA FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT A CAMERA TO BE AS BASIC OR COMPLEX AS THEY LIKE.

After years of 35 MM photography, I now normally use a Canon digital SLR camera for my photos. That's great for most things, but sometimes I just need a good snapshot camera for quick images. I haven't taken the time to master the various settings yet, but the A550 seems to do a good job for routine photos. I've had the opportunity to use a variety of digital cameras over the years since they were first introduced and find the A550 to be just the right combination of size and features for my needs.

I bought this camera in July and by August I was having troubles with it. It keeps on saying low battery and shutting itself off. I've replaced batteres with fresh ones and cleaned the contacts. This camera is defective.

It is a good camera for an amateur who wants to learn and use the photography skills they have learned. I have used it for professional work, protraits with pretty good sucess, however, down sides are that it does not connect to lights and the focus seams soft at times. Shutter delay is not bad but hard with children. Their looks change very quickly.

It works well to learn on and is very portable for someone who likes to take a camera where ever they go. Batteries are readily availble/ and you will need extras/ try the lithium aa that seams to be the best option even though they are more expensive. buy a 1g sd card/ don't waste time with the smaller ones, the 1g is worth it. If you are looking for something just to take pictures of the kids and family and never intend on blowing them up larger than 8x10 you don't really need the 7.1 mp digital camera, try the next model down.

The options are fun to experiment with and that is mostly what I like to do with this camera. Manual focus on this camera seams like a joke so don't count on that, but the other settings are standard. The video part is also lots of fun for me as I am used to only still photography. I bought this camera as an step over from film, the next camera I buy will be the 30 D to further my professional work. If Photography is one of your favorite hobbies then this is a good camera for you. You will learn and love it as you can get good pictures.

I bought this Canon PowerShot A550 as an "update" for my Canon PowerShot A520. I've been pleased with my good ol' 4-megapixel A520, so I figured I'd be able to jump right into the 7-megapixel A550 with no learning curve.

Exactly as planned. This camera takes good photos in a variety of conditions, and seems "quicker" than my A520 (quicker between-shot times).

No surprises--it's a very-good camera. Cheap, too! Recommended.

I am definitely satisfied with my A630 digital camera. The quality of the camera and the features it contains far outweigh the cost of the camera. One of the coolest features is the fold-out LCD screen that helps protect the screen from scratches and also allows you to have a clear view of the screen when the camera is at any angle, including when it is pointed at yourself.

I also have a Canon Powershot A540 that is the best camera that I have ever owned...until now. I was looking for a higher mp and a stronger flash and the A630 fits the bill so nicely. It's as simple a camera with superb results as you wish, but also has more technical capabilities for the advanced photographer. I highly recommend this camera!

I bought this camera for my daughter for her birthday. She loves it. I bought myself a Sony digital over a year ago and it is amazing the difference in technology in that short a time. I almost kept the Canon and gave her my Sony, but I didn't. I was impressed with the quality and the speed of taking pictures and pleased that the prices have come down since I purchased mine. Great Buy.

I haven't tried all of the features yet but the pictures are clear and have great detail. I've had one problem in taking a shot at night with flash around a highly reflective sign which pretty much blacked out the subjects. I have been particularly impressed with the digital zoom. Pictures I've taken in the past when I've exceeded the optical zoom have been a little fuzzy. This camera has given me some pretty clear shots at the maximum digital and optical zooms. With a 2 GB SD card, I get over 1,000 pictures. It's great having the LCD display and the optical viewer. I can select the area that needs to be the center of focus and the pictures come out sharp.

I have a nikon dSLR and a load of good quality lenses.

But I never go anywhere without this little canon a620.

It takes fantastic images and hasa lot of nice features. Highly recommended.

You won't be disappointed with this camera - it is one of the best there is for this price.

It's a no-nonsense camera that will give you fantastic images. What more do you want ?

I like that it uses AA batterries - I use rechargeables and carry a spare set.

Takes great movies too at 640x480 30 fps , but it saves as mpeg and so you will need a 1 GB card to get around 10 mins of video. use a fast card like a sandisk ultra.

The things I don't like are :

red-eye with the flash - not good !. You will need to remove this with software which ios easy to do

No infra red remote - this is annoying but you can live with it . You can use the self-timer instead. Iry the 'custom setting ' on the timer- you can do some interesting things with it.

Watch out for the flimsy low quality battery cover - its pathetic.

This camera is small enough to carry with you at all times. The picture quality on the stills @ 7.1 mgpxls is more than adequate. If you are serious about shooting in HD you will need to aquire an 8 mgb speed class 6 sdhc card for best performance (available on amazon). The opticaly stabilized lense allows the shot to be zoomed without the concern of fuzzy shots due to hand shake. A spare battery is also needed as far as video recoding is limited to around 30 minutes @ 720p HD. The camera takes some practice to feel comfortable in your hand as some of the buttons seem awkward at first. This is a "fun" camera you can carry with you in a belt pouch or purse. If your "gadget" freak this is a must have!

I am a subscriber to Photography Magazine, and one of the professional writers recommended this product. I am a film addict and after using this product, I am considering purchasing a better digital camera, but for my needs at the present, this is great product. The pictures are good and this is a very simple to operate. I am well satisfied with this camera.

Over all it's a fantastic little camera. The only thing I'd like better is a metal body, but its features make it well worth while anyway. Small and light-weight, easy to use. Also has an optical viewfinder - some people still prefer these though they are getting rare on digitals. It saves battery life to shoot without it, and the monitor is always there if you want to use its preview mode, so having the option is nice.

The camera starts up quickly and shutter lag is minimal (I'm used to a 4 yr-old Olympus which is slow so I really like it).

Canon is known for good optics, a superb CMOS sensor, and excellent processor (DIGIC II). From using this camera I can tell how good those are. It also takes AA batteries, which are easy to find and cheap!

In short, a great camera.
