The Canon A530 is an amazing camera for the price or anyone on a slightly tighter budget. The first thing that surprised me about it was how small it was; at only 3.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches high, it fits easily into your pocket, and serves well as a travel companion.
Pros:
- Amazing image quality for a camera in this price range
- Excellent clarity in macro mode
- ISO 800 is useful to have when taking night shots without a tripod or flash
- My colors settings are useful and surprisingly intricate; you can set a custom setting for levels in red, green, and blue individually, as well as contrast, sharpness, saturation, and skin tone
- Color accent and swap are nice features for the creative type, and are often more accurate than I had expected
- Stitch assist mode automatically locks exposure compensation and aperture to make panoramas easier and consistent (I would really recommend a tripod when doing this to keep the camera level, though. Stitch assist software isn't perfect)
- Widescreen 16:9 framing is a nice feature (not to be confused with true widescreen, but automatically frames and crops in 16:9 ratio)
- 4x optical zoom works very well
- Extremely fast start-up time (about one second)
- Excellent auto-focus features
- Amazing battery-life (a pair of Energizer lithiums lasted me about 800 shots with LCD)
Cons:
- Only two aperture settings per zoom level in manual mode. ex. f/2.6 and f/5.6 at 1x, but nothing in-between (the A540 has in-between values for each zoom)
- Would have been nice to have had a flip-out LCD like the A610
- No Aperture or Shutter Speed priority modes (the A540 does have them)
- LCD screen extremely hard to see in very bright conditions (although to be fair, this seems like a more common issue among digital cameras)
All in all, the Canon A530 is an excellent choice for the price, and might be the best bang for your buck if you're looking for something with more features than your standard point-and-shoot, along with excellent image quality.

After having had a friends hand me down one pixel camera which no longer connected to any computer in the 21st century, I purchased this camera. Right size for my hands(smaller is not necessarily better) and easy to use. The settings were simple to learn and actually more than I needed. You can switch from taking shots to review with one click of a button and back again to taking photos. Quick to use to capture those momentary fleeting kodak moments and even faster to download to my computer with attaching a cord and pressing a button.
The zoom takes you right there so I can capture snaps shots from a distance without the subject taking notice and assuming fake stances. I just love this camera and find nothing to be critical of. So if want a camera that is so simple to operate that you will actually use, this is the one.

The Canon PowerShot A550 is living up to its A- rating, given by different Internet sources which I read before buying. The rating exceeded that of other cameras which cost twice as much. We are using the options of automatic point-and-shoot or manual camera settings to be creative with the images. Amazon and its supplier, Adorama Camera, made it easy to trace where the shipment was and delivered it promptly. Both companies have written to us often to check if the shipment arrived undamaged and if we were happy with the camera. On top of that, Adorama Camera has very pleasantly surprised us with 2 free print offers!

Indeed, if you have a Canon Powershot you will need this AC device when you transfer pictures from camera to PC. I had mine for almost two years and it works.

I like Nikon cameras because they have a good name and I've never had a problem with them. I was ready to buy a Nikon Coolpix S5 when I visited my local camera store and the salesman showed me the Canon Powershot A620.
His main objection to the Nikon was there was no viewfinder. The LCD display would wash out on a sunny day. The A620 has both and the A620's LCD display is adjustable to a zillion different positions. Right then and there I was sold.
The A620 is bigger and easier to hold. The hump for the batteries also adds extra finger grip for holding it. The shutter button is large and away from the other buttons.
The A620 uses 4 AA batteries. At first I thought this was a negative. But the saleman said it was a positive. If the batteries are dead, in a jam its easier to buy AA batteries than special photographic batteries. He sold me a AA rapid battery recharger which includes NiMH batteries. I can also use it for my Garmin i5 PND (personal navigation device).
I have read some reviews that feel a camera that uses two AA batteries is better than one that uses four. Do they realize that four batteries last twice as long as two?
The A620 is a 7 Megapixel camera, the S5 was 6 Megapixels. The A620 has a 4x zoom optical lens, the S5 was 3x.
I bought a one Gigabyte SD memory card for storing pictures. At 7 Megapixels per picture, it holds 320 pictures.
The only problem I have is that I am not familar with Canon cameras and the instruction manual isn't very clear. I've had to figure things out through trial and error. I had no problems figuring out how to turn the flash off as this was identical to the Nikon. One of these days I'll finish reading the instruction manual.
My total purchase price for the Canon A620 including the SD card, recharger, and carrying case was less than the Nikon S5 alone.

We were looking for a simple point and shooter and this one fit the bill - it worked so well that we ordered a second one... It is easy to use and worked right out of the box without a glance at the instruction books - Incidently, when we did look at the instructions we found them to be quite comprehensive and clear... A second set of books in Spanish was a nice touch... Printing the pics directly to an HP photo printer is a snap... The A460 is easy on batteries and fits into a shirt pocket... We recommend ordering an additional memory card (high speed - at least 2GB) because the standard card (16MB) that came packed with the camera is just not enough...

A replacement for my Canon A40 w 3x zoom and 2.1 mpx. A world of difference,
ESPECIALLY with that swiveling large size LCD. What a help!!!! Even in sun can
adjust so rarely need to use viewfinder.
The large mpx serves as an additional zoom factor, since when you set camera at
max size/rez with very large mpx image, AND use zoom, you can get good image of
smaller subject from a decent distance, nearly like using a telescope!!!
Batt life very good, with the 4 AA as was with my earlier model. Actually so may
varients for pic taking I tend to get lost at times, but since I read the How To in
manual only when I HAVE to, its my fault.
Highly recommended. Now all I need is decent aftermarket flash for additional interior work.

The Canon PowerShot A630 is even better than I imagined. I have had it two weeks and already have 237 photos that everyone is impressed with. The quality is excellent and it is so simple to use that I am carrying it with me almost everywhere. I had a Minolta Dimage and it was way too complicated to carry and to use. This is exactly what I have been looking for and would recommend it to anyone who wants great photos. Both of my college age kids got one last Christmas and so, I knew it was what I wanted in a camera.

I purchased this camera due to the great reviews and the price. I have been very happy with this camera so far. I wanted it for a trip we're taking soon to Hawaii, so I am looking forward to using it there. I have used it several times already and it works great, plus its easy to use. You will not be dissappointed with this camera.

In short, this is an excellent camera. We were originally considering the Canon SD600 or another really compact camera but are happy we went with this one instead. First, the A540 allows complete flexibility over how you take your pictures. The novice user can put the camera on "auto" and get great results, while the expert user can set everything manually to get the desired shot. Second, the camera is ergonomically the right size (we found the SD600 to be a bit small) and so is easy to hold and use but is still small and light enough to carry everywhere. Third, unlike the SD models that use the Lithium Ion batteries, the A540 only uses 2 standard AA batteries so it is easy and cheap to find replacement batteries. Finally, the 4x optical zoom is nice to have, it may not seem like much more than the standard 3x but when you're using it you notice it.
As is the case with most Canon cameras, the picture quality is excellent (much better than the 7MP HP camera we tried before we bought this one) and while few people ever mention it, the image management software Canon provides with the camera is loaded with features and is extremely easy to use.
Overall, we couldn't be happier with our purchase.

I bought this camera after good review from my friend for previous version which was 5 MP. This camera is more in weight and the biggest problem is picture quality when light is midium or low. It did not function well at all while we were taking picures in banquest hall with more yellow light as well as same problem when we took pictures in basement with regular light. The light in banquest hall and basement was really good enough for taking pictures as other cannon camera with 5MP did really good job where as this A630 completely failed to show good results. each pictures was yellow, I try to take it using night shot, that was even worst as there was alreay enought light. I think this camera is getting confused on auto flash.
I am going to probably going to garbage this camera, it is completely waste of my $.

Had camera for 18 months, great camera, excellent photos. However it was only used occasionally for family occasions, holidays etc. It developed a fault, the lens stuck out and E18 error appeared on the screen when on holiday. I expected better quality from a Canon, especiaccy when I paid the extra money to purchase a reputable brand.

I'm just starting out with a "real digital camera". This is a perfect camera for learning photography. Or for a quick point and shoot. My mother is a photographer and a friend of mine is too and they both like it alot with all of the features it has. I'm learning alot on this camera and it's been fun! The first A630 had a problem when I recieved it, the flash wouldn't work and the Canon tech support was a big help, and they were suprised that it was defective (very rare) they told me. No problem with exchange from where I got it. Battery life is excellent with plain old alkaline, but get rechargeables. Video mode is very nice and I love hooking it up to my TV. Macro shooting is the best as well as night shooting. I've made some crazy light trail shots of moving cars at night. Can't wait to try it during the Fourth of July fireworks! The LCD screen is great and the view finder is nice too, actual it zoom in as well. Like I said it is the best camera for learning on, it will show you if you make an error before you shoot. It also has a quick startup, and you have alot of custom features on it. The software it comes with is easy to use. I'm a firefighter and I can't wait to try it on a call or training. Awesome camera....get one!!

I had a friend who had the A510 and I loved it but it was only 3 megapixels, so I was going to buy the A520 but I decided to wait for a higher megapixel version to come out. The A610 was too big, so I continued to wait. Finally the A540 came out. I read online reviews for it before it was in stores and decided that I was going to buy it.
I've had it now for a little over 2 months, I haven't had any problems with it. I've dropped it twice and I haven't noticed any defects with functionality...like with my last digital camera, after I dropped it the 1st time it stopped working properly. Anyway this camera is great for beginners and has some stuff for people who like to go beyond using the auto button. The start up time is good. If you take a picture with the camera horizontally, when you're viewing the pictures, the camera automatically rotates the image to be right side up, so you don't have to turn the camera. There are many different settings but I haven't really explored all of them. So far I only really have two complaints:
- Flash recharging time, and battery life
If in conditions where you have to use the flash a lot, be sure to carry extra batteries because it kills the battery much faster. regular betteries die quickly in this camera...be sure to buy rechargeable. If the battery is dying the flash takes what seems like an eternity to recharge which is really inconvenient at parties and other functions where people are not standing and posing to wait for you to take the picture.
Oh yea and sometimes when viewing my images, the camera toggles between two images before settling to the next image. I consider this a minor problem because it rarely happens. I don't experience that problem with the memory card that was mentioned in one of the other reviews, if i am putting it in incorrectly it will not go in the slot, then I quickly realize that I am inserting it wrong.

Hey everyone. I just got the A550 after having a three year old 5.1MP camera from Canon, same body and similar features. So far I love my new camera; I don't think you'll find a better camera for the price. Also, I shopped around and most stores no longer carry them (the A560 and 570 are the newest models, priced around $200+, and the only major difference as far as I can tell is that they have image stabilization, a new feature). If you have a steady hand I'm not sure how much of a difference this would make. As a poor college student I was thrilled with the price and quality of this purchase. Enjoy!

this is a great great camera..i purchased this camera by other reviews that i read...very easy to use... easy to download pictures...if your looking for a basic point and shoot this is the camera to pick, and it takes beautiful pictures.

first of all, you need to buy good batteries for this camera. I bought a 100-pack of cheapies and they don't last but a few hours- if they work. Good batteries like energizer will last you a few weeks. I own a Mac and the pictures transfer easily onto iphoto. the 4x optical zoom is a nice improvement from our other 3x zoom on our sony. I was able to buy a 2GB memory card for $20(sandisk) from here also. There are also high speed cards available. I'm already satisfied with the standard one. I don't do a lot of "quick" shots anyways.
Only one drawback. The video doesn't show up on my imovie. maybe I need more experimenting. I just assumed it would be as easy as the pictures.
Overall, I am surprisingly satisfied with this canon product. Especially after being a sony fan for years.

This was a perfect gift for my niece at a great price. She is 13 years old and loves to take pictures of her friends and her just "hanging out". This is good starter camera with all of the features that a teenager needs!

I originally had a different version of this Canon camera with only 6mp and my darling daughter accidentally threw it away! By the time I realized it, it was already at the dump and had been rained on for days. Sigh. I loved that camera. I looked for the exact one on Amazon, but couldn't find it. I found this camera and it was HALF THE PRICE of my first one and had more megapixels - looks almost exactly the same. The first one I bought at Best Buy for $300! Sheesh! OK, so I ordered this one and got it within just a few days. It takes GREAT pictures and is as easy to use as my old one. I am a teacher, and I use it a lot. A teacher friend of mine saw how great and clear the pics are and bought one, too! You won't be sorry if you buy this one.

I spent 30.00 extra to get this product expediated to the person I bought it for. The product was delivered 10 days later rather than 3 days; thus, the present didn't reach the person I bought it for in time for their birthday. Therefore, I would advise ordering this from another company if you need it delivered on time!!!!

This is my second CANON power shot camera, my last one was the A80. I would still have it but it was stolen. The build quality of the A630 is very good and feels solid. The camera takes fantastic pictures and is easy to use. The manual is very well written. Great product and very rugged!

I love this camera very much. I just purchased a week ago and took with us to Disneyland. I didn't get a chance to read the instructions before the trip. This camera definitely is a user friendly camera. I am no tech person at all. It was very easy for me to take pictures with two young kids.
I ended up took a lot of pictures without flash and they all turned out great. Of course, it would be a good idea to know the camera before trip. :-)
If you are looking for convenience, this is the one. I am going to check out the underwate casing and hope to take this camera for scuba diving.

AFTER MANY MONTHS OF PONDERING I DECIDED TO GO FOR THIS CAMERA AS REVIEWS WERE GOOD. WHAT A GOOD DECISION! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CAMERA.THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE AMOUNT OF BATTERIES IT USES (4) AND NO IMAGE STABILISATION, BUT THESE CAN BE OVERCOME BY INVESTING IN RECHARGABLES AND A BASIC TRIPOD. THE BEST THING IS FINDING NEW THINGS EVERYTIME YOU PICK IT UP. THIS IS MY FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA AND I AM OVER THE MOON WITH IT. IT IS AN IDEAL CAMERA FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT A CAMERA TO BE AS BASIC OR COMPLEX AS THEY LIKE.
