This camera is all I need. It does not look fancy but it does everthing I want to do with it: Photos and little videos in good quality.

Never having used a digital camera before, I was amazed at how easy it is to use this one. Pictures are very clear, 10x optical zoom is amazing at how you can bring scenes close, and info on screen lets you know when you need the flash before taking the picture. Well worth the money.

The camera has a very nice zoom but was a lot larger that I expected it to be from the pictures. Sometimes the pictures are fuzzy and it has a hard time focusing. When the pictures are in focus, it takes very nice pictues. It's a good camera for everyday use.

I am on my second one of this exact model. The first did not last but 24 hours. Amazon was great and exchanged it with no problem and fast too. Canon said that this is a problem that can occur with this model (the LCD screen went black). They said they could diagnose it and fix it but the turn around time for Canon was much longer than what Amazon was able to do. I do like the camera. I am hoping that it lasts over time...only time will tell.

I bought this camera to be a backup to my larger more complex Canon but now I just use this one and didn't even bring my other camera to Maui. It takes great pictures, it's light weight, easy to use and has long battery life.

This is a great little compact camera that has all the features you are likely to need, the plus id the 10Mp sensor and the 4x zoom. I was a little skeptical about using a compact camera as I usually use Canon's 1 series D-SLR cameras but i was really surprised by the image that it produced. I bought this primarily for underwater photography whilst snorkeling as getting a housing for my other cameras is more expensive than a new car!
All in all a great camera that will fit in your pocket.

I've owned this camera for two years and taken 528 photos on three vacations. Then, suddenly the image processor failed. The only option is to send to Canon for a repair costing nearly half what I paid for the Camera plus shipping, and wait at least two weeks.

Im shopping for another camera and it won't be a Canon Powershot...

If you're looking an all-in-one that does the job "good" all around, this is it. What you're not going to find is the best camcorder. It's also not the best camera. What it is however, is the best combination of the two, in the smallest size (roughly a pack of cigs). I've taken more video and pictures with this than I have with my "professional" level equipment. I carry this thing around all the time for those impromtu moments.

If you're not going to film the next block buster hit or shoot the cover of Sports illustrated, you'll be MORE than happy with this.

I will not pretend that I'm a camera buff but I have to say that this camera is fabulous. It does exactly what I need it to do and gives the option of manual use which provides an opportunity for more creativity when shooting pictures. A great buy.

Summary: (Edited June 08th by babsbini) This is one of the best cameras for beginners in the lower price range. The pic quality is great, and the big LCD screen is bright and well-lit.
In spite of the varied features that it has, its easy to use. The handbook is also simple and easy to browse through.
The camera provides almost a macro mode where it can focus as low as 2 inches.
The 1/2000s shutter speed also means that you can take pics of a fast moving subject.
It uses the cheaper AA batteries (rather than the costlier AAA) which are also available everywhere. But it does eat a lot of power if the LCD is used regularly, and if the camera is used in the movie mode for too long. A better option would have been to provide a rechargable battery.
Once the user clicks, there seem to be too many flashes before the actual picture is taken. I have often had an experience when the subject thinks the photo is taken and they are ready to move after the first flash.
I wont say its bulky, but its certainly not the smallest, and does not fit easily in your pocket. I have seen smaller ones with equally powerful zooms and equally good pics if not better.
The viewfinder, although well placed, is too tiny and it takes a bit of getting used to peer through it.
When comparing consider the Nikon Coolpix 5600 and above and Panasonic Lumex series. Some Fuji FinePix cameras also seem to give a good bang for the buck.

I love this camera. It's smaller. It's basic settings are very easy to use. As you become more familiar, the advanced settings are really fun to play with. I love all the settings: aquarium, snow, portrait, sunset, etc. I am very happy with this purchase.

We did a lot of comparison shopping, and just couldn't get over how perfect this camera was to our needs. I highly recommend this over any other.

Went to D.C. and N.Y.C. with this new camera and was extremely happy w/ this camera! Awesome pictures!! Once you read manual, figure out all of the different options, they really are easy to select and use. Zoom capability is awesome - especially in macro format! Battery life from Ni rechargeable was phenomenal, lasted almost 2 full days/taking pictures constantly. We also purchased the Sony Quick Charger with 4AA NI-MH batteries - which was very portable/fast charging. (Found out that the rechargeable batteries last much longer than the standard AA) The only downside to this camera is that when using flash, the time it takes to record picture to SD is a bit longer than normal. (even w/4G hi speed SD)
Otherwise, very please with the camera and it's capabilities.

If you are not concerned with buying a tiny, pocket sized camera the Canon SX100IS is great. I carry it on my belt and it is a bit cumbersome compared to the credit card sized models, however, you get a few more features. Mainly the 10X zoom which makes a big difference during events such as kids sports games and graduations, plays, etc. The larger lens gives you a wider range of options for shooting modes. The larger size makes it easier to keep the camera stable while shooting. The size also allows for a more powerful flash which brightens up the indoor flash pictures...an area where I feel most pocket size digitals fail miserably. There is no viewfinder and this takes some getting used to, but many of the cameras are going this direction anyway. I wasn't impressed with the digital viewfinders found in other models so I chose this one. The pictures are great, clear, sharp and bright. If this style fits what you are looking for, buy it.

It's small, shiny, easy to use and does everything.
It does everything a good Canon point and click ought to do, and it also shoots high quality HD video with HD sound!!!

This camera is super easy to use and you can hook it directly to the tv all the cables were included. it even came with batteries so I could use it right out of the box.

I've had a number of Lenmar replacement batteries, all excellent, and so far, this one is equal to or better than the original.

Once the directions are read and understood, which is the main ingredient, it takes great pictures with a minimum amount of hassle. The software makes downloading to a PC easy and quick. The battery life seem comparable to other cameras I've owned, the main factor, in battery life, is common sense with zooming and using the digital display.

I really like the way the screen orients to the direction you took the shot. This camera is easy to use and takes beautiful pictures. It's amazing how much cameras have improved and prices have fallen. Hurrah for the march of technology. Now everyone can take nice snapshots of friends, family and vacations.

Nice camera for the price. I really don't have any negative comments; the camera performs pretty much as advertised. Like most users of lower end cameras, I probably won't ever use 75% of the features available but it seems like a pretty good general purpose camera.

I have owned cameras of Sony Kodak and Canon brands. I bought the 12mb Kodac camera and it was a biggggg dud. It took ages to capture any image. Then I got the Canon 570is and it was just wonderful. I upgraded with the 590IS for myself and gave the 570 for business use. The pictures are crisp and sharp. The camera works pretty fast. Uses AA battery hence no worry of loosing power in midst of action.

Cons-- I cannot imprint the date on the fotos. May be this should be added as an added feature for newer upgrades.

This camera is very easy to use right out of the box. It has a lot of manual options that I haven't explored as yet, but it should be fun. The pictures so far have been great!

I bought the A590 as our first digital camera. We just came back from a trip to England where we took more than 300 pictures. We haven't printed them yet, but they look great on our computer. We even took some action shots during a soccer/football match, and most of those look great also. We took all our shots in the auto mode.

When we were considering buying this camera, it was a bit confusing to read all the reviews about the more exotic features of this camera. I suppose it's nice to have all those features available on this camera, but I'm not sure those features are relevant to someone like me who is simply looking for a good "point and shoot" camera. I'm glad I bought the A590, and would recommend it to my friends.

This camera is easy to use and takes great outside shots. It takes ok indoor shots like most other pocket size cameras do to the limited flash. Overall I like this camera and paid a very reasonal price for it.
