I searched for several weeks using several camera review sites and finally picked this one. It had all the options I like at a great price. Even in low light environments such as at concerts it performed well. Pictures are crystal clear and my only complaint was the charge time for the flash. Takes 6 or 7 seconds to charge for the next shot.

I would rather see the worthiness of the product I bought. The money I paid and the quality of product. So , I never expect to have $1000-camera quality from the machine I paid around $200. Comparing apples to apples.

So, Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera is in that sense much better then the cameras in that range.

Nice looking, good quality point-and-shoot type camera which is good/fast/easy for family use.
I recommend this for the people who are not professional photography and would not want this miss the beauty of life.

For this price, this camera is VERY tough to beat! The picture quality is superb. I love to shoot macros and w/ this camera, you can get as close as 1cm from the subject. You have the freedom to change all of the parameters to get the best resolution/quality from this camera. There is only 1 drawback to this camera, and that is that the flash takes a long time to recharge; usually 2-3 seconds. This is really not a problem unless you are trying to take continuous/burst mode shots INDOORS (where the flash might be needed). The flash lag time is NOT a factor if you are taking burst mode shots outdoors. Another recommendation that I can NOT stress enough is that you should get yourself a FAST memory card. I have the Sandisk Etreme III and I can shoot continuous/burst shots one right after the other w/ approximately .8 of a second between shots; AMAZING (considering the price), AND I can shoot burst mode shots until I darned well please. I had a Sony Cybershot prior to this and I was only allowed to shoot 3 burst mode shots. With the Canon SX100IS, I keep my finger depressed on the shutter button for as long as I like, or until the memory is full. There are SO many awesome features about this camera that I can not fully do it justice in this review. Overall, I LOVE this camera. Great features, Solid construction and amazing picture quality. I would recommend this time and time again.

I wanted to buy a camera that would take AA batteries rather than come with rechargeable batteries for 2 reasons. Firstly rechargeable batteries loose their capacity over time & secondly when I go on holiday I dont want to take the charger with me which adds weight. With AA batteries you have the option of buying disposable batteries & just throw them away after using them thus saving you weight on holiday.

The camera itself is very good. Size wise its not the slimmest but for the price its very good. You get 7.1MP for around £70 (what I bought it for from Amazon) The supplied memory card is only 32MB but thats to be expected with any camera you buy. Picture quality is very good for a compact & especially considering the cost. If you really need good quality then you would need an SLR.

Canon is a well known brand when it comes to digital cameras. I gave it 4 stars as I wish it would come with a case which it didnt but thats not a big issue.

Pros: Its made in Japan!, not China, shell feels better than older models.... more zoom, more pixels.
Cons: a little bit heavier.. the plastic that covers the lens its a real problem every time you're taking a picture...

I love this camera. It is a great size, and takes great pictures. The features allow you to adjust flash and shutter speed depending on where you are using it, and the pictures you are taking. In addition, it is a great price. It is easy to download to your computer or photo dock station. This is the camera that the average mom needs.

I love this camera. For an average mom or dad this would be the perfect camera. I use it on auto. Great pics,easy controls. It is a small package,which I think is one of its great features. I like the view finder plus the big LCD screen. The price cant be beat for all of its features.

I bought this for my sister -- she's struggled a little, but seems to love it. Her technical skills are some what limited as she has crept into the digital age, but I think this will be a good camera for her in the long run.

A good camera for the money dissappointed with the memory card only takes 6 photos so obviously will have to purchase another card.

This camera replaces an older Canon digital. I wanted a camera with no fancy settings and very easy to use in a small product. I liked the idea of this one using long lasting and cheaper Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries. I will not be printing or blowing up many if any pictures so this 8MP with 4X Zoom more than fits my needs. I primarily use this for E-bay and family shots that I store on discs. While I am still learning how to operate this camera, I do notice that the time it takes to shoot one picture after another does take a bit of time, several seconds. The quality seems to be good and I am happy so far.

I've only had the camera for 2 months now, I'm not a pro but i've owned point and shoot cameras before and so far this canon have exceeded my expectations. i read some bad reviews before i purchased this camera. but i think all you need to do is read the manual before using it to actually appreciate its very wide array of features..but if you're one of those people who likes to jump into the pool right away, i dont think this one is for you.

Bought the camera early summer 2006.
Reasons:
- Wide angle lens. Not many point and shoots have this.
- It has the CANON Digic II processor. The same as the high-end CANON SLRs. Great processing. Not another company has a better one, not even NIKON.
- Extensive advanced controls. This has just about every setting you could hope for. I use all except the built in scene settings. I prefer to set my own exposures, aperture, shutterspeed, ISO, etc... This would also be good for a newbie.
- Compact. A lot of capability in a little space.
- Underwater housing available.
I bought the underwater housing. I vacationed in Hawaii and fully tested it scuba diving. It perfomed flawlessly. The underwater pictures (I took about 700) turned out great. I used it as deep as 80 feet, great pix. It is great for snorkling, too. I recommend buying the weight for the housing. I have it. It attaches to the tripod mount on the bottom of the housing. It gives the rig a neutral buoyancy.

The camera is a work horse.

I took over 2000 pictures in 14 days in Hawaii. Since then, I have taken about 6000 pictures with it in Miami, Seattle, Alaska (Juneau, Sitka, Anchorage) to name some highlights. It does seem a little fragile compared to my film camera, a CANON A-1 that has seen much abuse and much of he world and is still producing great photos. What I mean is that you have to take care to not beat it about. I had long ago read about the lense door opening in a pocket, so I am careful not to let that happen. My experiance with the S80, using the heck out of it, is it hasn't broken, even dropping it a few frightening times.

Cons:

- No stability assist or anti-shake. This may cause new photographers some heartache.
- The mode selector on the side can easily be turned and cause a screwed up shot (just be aware).
- The battery door opens by sliding. There is no locking device on it that would prevent it from accidentally opening. I have occationally, accidentally, opened the battery door right after a shot. I thought it may mess up the writing of the picture from the buffer to the storage card, but it never did.
- No RAW mode. If you need it, don't buy this one.

Overall, this is an outstanding camera for the price. It takes outstanding pictures and has stood up to my extensive use so far. It is good for advanced photographers that want a point and shoot as well as for beginners.

Highly recommend it.

Ive had this camera about a year now, and I really, really would have loved to give you a 5-star, glowing and gushing review of the thing. I want it to be more than it has turned out to be. I will it to be more than it is. In spite of all the karma I throw into it, it is, and it pains me to say it, "OK"....not more. It durability? Well, thats another story...

I fell in love with the S series with a S70 I bought, but our relationship was suddenly terminated when I discovered that S70s vanish into thin air when left on a table and the owner's back is turned. (Re: my gushing review of it on Amazon) Replacing it was a no-brainer, but since the S80 was due to be released in a matter of weeks I held out for the upgrade. Curiously, when it first came out it was waaay cheaper than it is now.

PRO The larger LCD was, I thought, nice. Like the S70, the S80 is a good example of how many features can be crammed into a point and shoot. Its kinda like a handheld Photoshop CS...more features than any one user will probably use in its life. There are many other features in its favor that other reviewers cover, so I'll leave that to them. I'll just mention that I was shooting a neighbor's wedding the other night and my 8 yr old daughter wanted to take pics too. She grabbed the S80 and shot throughout the night. Granted, a lot of it was 8 yr old junk, but about a dozen of her pics came out well enough that I didnt hesitate to include them in the final presentation- and the bride loved them! They fit right in with the 8MP 30D I was using.

CON The larger LCD is, I now think, a liability. One day I went to power it up and the LCD was cracked. Hadn't been dropped or abused. Camera worked fine but LCD was kaput. Didnt think much about it and decided to send it into Canon for warranty service. WOULDNT YOU KNOW.. the following day I had it in my hand and was digging for keys to unlock a door when....Ooops.... away she went, down on the sidewalk, from about waist high. I picked it up and one of the corners was bent in and that pretty silver casing buckled up.

Canon warranty does not cover damage from dropping. I knew I was gonna have to shell out $$$ to get the thing fixed then. I was sure Canon would be skeptical about LCD not working before the drop, and I was right.

I doubt the S70 would have been so wounded by that drop. I have no doubt that the LCD was more durable.

I sent the camera to Canon via insured USPS and later they couldnt find the package in their system. That was the only time I hoped that the USPS lost a package of mine... I was gonna use the insurance money to buy another reliable S70.

Alas! A week later the email from Canon came with their estimate. The good news is that the service wasnt too terribly long or expensive. But the whole experience left me less than starstruck.

Other minor aggravations include the mode dial on the side, which always seems to creep to a setting other than what you left it at. The rotating dial on the back makes it easy to change settings, but it also easily slips a surprise setting change in on you if you arent attentive. This is a design flaw that other reviewers have mentioned.

When everything comes together, the S80 takes rich, vibrant pictures. But for the price it dang well better. That 'bling' (as another reviewer referred to) on the outside is purdyful to look at, but it dazzles at the expense of durability.

great camera...previously had a 10mp GE 1035 but much prefer this. wouldn't mind more scene modes though.

Nice image quality outdoors. Zoom is nice.

But for my purposes, the long waits between when the flash is ready is a showstopper. This makes it almost impossible to capture spontaneous moments. I generally respect Canon quality, but I'm afraid I'll be returning the SX110 IS to the store.

Have always been a fan of Canon, will always remain a fan as long as they make such wonderful products.

Still have the PS A95 that bought 4 years ago which works perfect but had a bug (ccd malfunction) and they repaired it free of charge and even renewed most of the outside appearance. the warranty had already been expired 3 years ago. even Apple does not honor such a generous service as far as i know.

bought this great camera about a week ago, first shots were of the snow in las vegas at 20x, crisp and sharp, bought this camera to tag along with my nikon d50, pictures are almost as sharp and the ease of use and the size are just perfect, i agree with other reveiws that the function wheel needs work- keep ending up in manual or macro focus, all around a very well built and easy to understand camera, lcd is the best i have seen on anything in this price, the nikon will be in moth balls for any long trips to europe because this camera does it all- buy it you will like itCanon Powershot SX10IS 10MP Digital Camera with 20x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

This camera takes good pictures for an inexpensive camera, but contrast is not as good as more expensive cameras, resulting in occasional dark pictures.

It does not compare with my Canon 50D but it is not supposed to. My wife has at last got interested in photography with this camera and is asking me what all the adjustments do. Sometimes it is quite sickening when she turns out a better picture than me!.
A small camera but it "does what it says on the box"

Problems with compacts are that they usually compromise in areas to provide an all-around product.

With the A640, there is:
+full manual control
+a sizable zoom
+quality black finish
+swivel screen
+powerful flash (well as powerful as my S3 IS but slower refresh)
+incredibly detailed macro
+10 megapixel sized images (making it easier to crop and edit as I like)
and some of the things I like such as an optical viewfinder, 4 batteries and a grip that I know some people won't like or need.

but negatively:
+it is bulky. this isn't a compact point-and-shoot to put in your pocket.
+the camera sometimes gets it wrong. Like with my S3 the focus loves to stick to walls and forget the subjects all together. A quick press to macro mode usually solves this though.
+red eye galore. canon's a notoriously bad at this but with things like Picasa and cheaper photoshop-type softwares this is simple to remedy.
+no razzle dazzle. My friends have samsungs and panasonics layered with different styles, overlays and all the cool trappings compacts have.
+unimpressive shutter speed. maybe it's using SLRs for a while but Canon compacts I find slower than I would like. But using other people's cameras I still find the A640 lacking when it comes to social situations and quick on-the-cuff photography.

But on the whole the camera is everything I wanted. It works as a professional camera that takes wonderful photos for my Graphic Design course that I can use to manipulate and play with (all blown up to A4) and can take a second job as a pretty damn competent compact when it comes to going out!

First, the battery life is horrible! I have yet to go one hour with new batteries or rechargable ones - having to replace batteries throughout a "daytrip" will be inconvience. The door to open for the batteries is very difficult.

The camera is just too heavy.
Too many options - will take a long time to learn the manual.
Recharge time with flash is way too long.
Recharge time without using flash is too long as well.

Hate to say it, the camera is getting returned.

I can't give it a full 5 yet as I haven't used it as frequently as I would like, but I will!! I have just had in the house for right at a month... It has a nice feel to it and the pictures are clear on the LCD. I haven't printed any yet, so I can't go into that as of yet. I CAN tell you, the little memory card you get with it, is insufficient... You WILL have to get a bigger memory card. The first time we used it with just the memory card it came with, we could only get 14 pics on it...SO, IT IS WISE TO GET A BIGGER MEMORY.
