This camera is perfect for amateur photographers who want to explore additional features. I especially like the way the lcd screen automatically brigthtens when shooting in a dark setting. I've only had it for a little while; it is very well made. feels comfortable in my hands, which are big. A little too big to fit in a shirt pocket. Price was the lowest of anywhere I researched. Amazon has the best prices. You'll need an sd card, the sixteen mb that comes with it is filled up very fast. Takes great pictures. Canon makes great cameras. No point and shoot cameras with 8mp and a 6x power zoom can beat the price. More than enough for great pictures and close ups.

I bought this product because of the glowing reviews from CNET, Consumer Reports etc. Although they mentioned slow flash recycle time I figured it couldn't be that bad if it was still getting such great reviews...WRONG! Buyers beware- if you are looking for a camera to take pictures of kids, especially indoors look elsewhere. The flash recycle time is unacceptably slow...and I mean SLOW! Especially if the batteries aren't straight off the charger. The camera does take pretty good pictures, very good in low light but I mainly take pix of my kiddos so I find myself often cursing missed shots while the flash recycles. If I had to do over again I would have gone with a Kodak or another brand that has much faster recycle times (granted the pictures aren't as good of quality as a Canon but I am at least getting the shots!). Hope this review helps you undecideds out there!

This is a great little camera with one big exception. It eats batteries. With only 2 AA batteries I can only get 20 - 30 pictures using a flash before I need to change batteries. I can get more if shooting outside but not much if you use the zoom and LCD display. The delay between flash photos is very long when waiting for the flash to recharge. This camera takes a very long time to focus and is not good for "candid" shots. This is my third Canon camera and a big disappointment in the picture department. It does take decent quality video but it uses the memory very quickly.
It does come with a memory card included with the camera. BUY A MEMORY CARD. You can only get about 18 pictures on the card that comes with the camera. If you were going to include a memory card with the camera it could at least hold enough pictures to be somewhat useful.

This is a great camera - slimmed down & upgraded version of my PowerShot A95 that I've had for several yrs now. Easy to use, larger LCD monitor, logical & user-friendly instructions; I use it mainly for still photos.
I recommend this camera highly!

I can't help giving this camera an average review. I have done a lot of research online and the Powershots always come out best. This is the second powershot I bought and return (sorry Amazon, you are the greatest). It takes OK pictures but it just doesn't compare to the cheap Olympus Camedea that I have. My friend also has an Olympus taking GREAT pictures. According to online reviews, Olympus would be worse than Canon...Let this be a review in favor of Olympus.

I bought this Canon A720 (new product from September) right after Thanksgiving and put it to use immediately. The finishes are superb. The PowerShot A720IS produces quality pictures under good lighting. Canon's lenses have always been strong and this one is no different. The 6x optical zoom with the face recognition means that you can zoom in and take a nice shot of someone's face from far away. It's pretty cool.
The 2.5 inch screen is BIG which is great for looking at your pictures.
Full manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority makes this camera fun to play around with.
The macro function is also great for taking closeups, the quality image is fantastic.

This Camera is amazing. The only bug i had with it was that it took around five seconds to turn on. i fixed that by turning the start up volume off. now it takes around half a second to tun on. it is really amazing, and i love how much zoom it has. The image stabilization has really come in handy, because some times i have a shaky hand.

I got this camera about a month ago. This is one is terrific. I bought this to replace my old Nikon coolpix 995 which I have already 6 years.
Here I list good part of this product.
1. Good price.
2. Smart face detection feature.
3. A free 2GB SD card with purchase -- this saves me $15.
4. Digital III chip handles picture/video very quick.
5. more than 20 different languages included in Camera, especially Asian languages ( Chinese, Japanese and Korean)
6. I don't have to buy extra Li batteries. Two AA batteries are very convenient.
7. Pretty light, just simply put into any of my pocket to carry on.
8. 6X optical is fascinating for me, though 12x would be better, but price is about 50% more than this one.
9. AF and AE lock are unique features for Canon's Camera.
DSLR is expensive and may not be so useful for everyone.
Basic digital cameras have many limitations though are cheap.
I think the price of Canon A720IS is between DSLR and other basic digital cameras. And its function is closer to DSLR.

This camera is small enough to put in a pocket and simple enough to yield great pictures with no fuss whatsoever. It compares favorably to other, higher end cameras I've owned over the last few years, that were much bigger and more complicated. While it's a little too bulky for a pocket when in the Canon case I bought separately, it slips in easily without the case.
The only downsides are:
1) Optical viewfinder does not adequately reflect the actual shot, and it gives a view that is much smaller than the actual picture, which means the screen must still be used for adequate framing of a shot (which of course means that shots taken using the viewfinder will need after the fact editing), and
2) The screen is quite dark at night, impossible to use to frame shots, and therefore one has to rely on the optical viewfinder.
These limitations were disappointments, but the overall quality of the pictures and ease of use, combined with the size, make this a 5 star product nonetheless.
The only downsides are:

Picked this as it was a Consumer Reports "Best Buy". I am super pleased with it. Easy to use, light and with a good grip. Especially like that I can zoom in on a picture already taken to make sure everyone looks good on a "people picture". Buy a larger memory straight away. Amazon did not offer it at the same time as I purchased the camera. Pity! Sale missed!

$345 for this camera from Toyzz when the MSRP is $199?!? I just bought this from Dell Home for $170 with free shipping. I wouldn't be telling you all this if it actually came from Amazon, because Amazon wouldn't mark it up like this.
I needed a small, pocketable camera to keep in my car when I don't feel like lugging around lenses and my DSLR. It's terrific.

This camera is everything I need in a camera and more! I wanted to have the option of manually controlling the camera without the big price tag of a DSLR. I did extensive research before deciding on this camera and I couldn't be happier with my choice. As for the ones who have complained about how long it takes for this camera to recover and be ready for the next shot - I moved up to this camera from a 5 year old Kodak Easyshare 5 megapixal - this one's like lightning to me! My Kodak took 10 seconds, this one takes about 3 to 4 seconds! Pretty darn good to me! If you want some extra options on your camera, and don't want to pay a fortune, then this one is the one you want!

This is an excellent take-along camera for trips and social events. I have used it for two months and had excellent results for casual photography, mostly people and pets. I especially like that, even though it is of compact size, it is much easier than some to hold steady and compose shots through the viewfinder as I am used to doing with film cameras. I also like that it uses standard AA batteries, allowing the use of relatively inexpensive NiMH rechargeables, and I can have several charged-up sets with me; also the ubiquitous SD memory chip, which I bought as 2-Gig chips from Newegg for $9.50 ea, a pleasant surprise from what they were even a yr ago! A 2-Gig chip will hold a LOT of hi-res pictures!

It is pretty good unit. I am satisfied with it. You can change many settings to meet your need. You will get very good picture with good settings.
The cons are:
The background noise is a little high, especially when the ISO is high.
You have to know some knowledge of taking pictures and it take some time to be used to this camera.
Do please shorten the timing of the shutter at night or you will get very blurred pictures.

This is a great camera. I have a Canon PowerShot A520 which I was very pleased with, but wanted more zoom and image stabilization for a forthcoming trip out west. This camera sure gives it to you. This is a great camera with many wonderful features. I took a lot of photos with it recently and they are outstanding. Highly recommended.

This camera is a really nice one for the money. It is not too big for what you get. I took it on a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois and took some great pictures from the car at speeds of 50 to 60 mph. The pictures turned out really good. I took some pictures of pelicans in a little park. The pelicans were in the Mississippi River and quite a distance away. Those pictures turned out really good for the distance and movement of the birds. You can tell that they are pictures of birds and not just white blobs.
I am recommending this camera to anyone who is considering buying one. And of course on the technological end of the recommendation my husband approved. He picked it out.

I bought this camera because it has a manual focus mode, it takes a regular SD card, and many more things. The pictures it takes can be blown up to sizes I can hang on the wall and it takes regular double A batteries, and they last a really long time! This camera is really easy to use and you can be shaking the camera and the pictures come out clear! It has great features, I couldn't be happier. The reason I went ahead and bought the camera with higher mega pixals was just because I had the money but all the canon powershots have great features like manual. The price was great too. I would highly recommend this camera to all my friends I love it.

I did a lot of research before buying this camera. I decided to get this particular camera because of the 6X optical zoom which has been a plus. The image is clear and it is easy to use. The camera is small and has all the basic features. I am very happy with the purchase.

I had canon a75 which served well for almost 3 years before retiring.
I knew canon digital cameras are best but I still did lot of research.
Things do tend to change a lot in this field, and next generation best cameras can come from any company. I looked at Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic among the main contenders. Among Nikon L11 and L12, and similar models in others. This camera beats all others including its own cousins, the canon a570is and a710is.
Between a570is and a710is, it is a tough choice because while a570is has a DIGIC III, it has 4x zoom while a710is has DIGIC II but 6x zoom. This camera combines the best of a570is and a710is: 8MP, DIGIC III, 6x zoom, Image Stabilization, ISO 1600, and oh, face detection! What it does lose over a710is is the special scene modes: color accent and color swap. I just do not understand why - while retaining hundreds of other features, canon had to remove those features in the a720is. Otherwise, anything that you can find in either of its cousins, you can find the better of the two in the a720is. And boy, it is fast to be ready for the shot!
Of course, the a570is is much cheaper, as are most cameras in this class from competing brands. But short of a dSLR, this is the most complete camera for a photography enthusiast.

This camera is decent, excellent if you consider the price point. However, I was simply not thrilled with the image quality and ended up returning the camera. I also found that when the camera was on center focus (my preference over face recognition) that I found many of my picture focused on the background instead of the focal point which I set.
For the Amazon price, this is a good point and shoot camera. However, I recommend the S5 (which I bought after returning the 720)for superior performance and image quality.
