As another reviewer said, you will need to purchase a high capacity SD card separately, preferably a 2 or 4GB one, as the one Canon supplies you with will only hold about 10 photos. A camera case is also recommended.
One warning though- be very careful with the lens, the mechanism appears to have been improved since the A70/A75/A85, but it's still pretty fragile (as is the case on most, if not all, digital cameras). I wouldn't recommend making use of its "beach photography mode" for instance, as if sand gets into the lens mechanism it will jam. Apparently the old infamous error "E18" has been replaced with "Lens error- restart camera", but it's essentially the same thing. So be sure to keep the lens clean and avoid dropping the camera. Some unfortunate customers get lens errors despite no misuse of the camera, but you take that risk with any brand of digital camera.
Otherwise, a strongly recommended product.

I wish that I could get the right settings for it to not to blur, and at times shutter speed can be a little slow, but overall, it takes pictures with a great quality.

Bought this camera as pocket point and shoot device ...
What a little gem ....
Ok, so it's silver, it's made of plastic, its lightweight;
YES ... it's a budget pocket camera .
BUT ......
It Costs less than £100-00 Pounds, and it takes FANTASIC SHOTS !!!! ..
So easy to use, with a fool proof auto mode, which anyone can use, to produce excellent results .... But also has a few other features, like manual ISO control, which will enable you to take outstanding shots in low light conditions .... Up to ISO 1600 ....
Packed with little features that you could choose to ignore, if you wish, or, if you like, you can explore, to produce even more interesting shots.
All contained in one little silver plastic box ...
Great Results, A4 Size, and beyond ...
Quality Optics with 4x Zoom, ....
Fast Start Up, Focus, And Refresh Rate .... You will be surprised .....
Really Impressive Multiple shoot mode ....
Good Battery Life ...
Not much more to say other than, you could do a whole lot worse for you £100-00 ...I know, I have in the past !! ...
Go And Buy One Today ... A Real Little Gem !!!

That's what my dad said when he gave it to me anyway.
I read all the one star reviews, and I'm happy to say that nothing like what is described in those reviews ever happened to me.
I'm not a photography student, but I know if you are seriously into photography this is not the camera for you.
Pros; durable, very nice picture quality, nice to look at, many choices of types of shooting to choose from.
Cons; horrible battery life (Recommend investing in a lot of rechargeable batteries.) and, this may just be the memory card, but sometimes it takes so long between pictures.
Overall, a very nice camera for the average picture taker.

New NiMH batteries R a must. It won't work at all with old ones. Has poor battery contact. Shuffle the batteries and the low battery indicator goes away most of the time.
Very high speed continuous exposures. It can shoot full resolution, full quality frames at 1fps continuously, until the SD card fills up. It can almost replace an HD movie camera if U like timelapse or have very slow subjects.
BTW, it defaults back to single shot mode whenever it's power cycled. Also the shooting mode icon disappears when exposure is locked, a definite bug.
In still mode, there is no manual shutter below 1second and no manual aperture. U can use the ISO to get some shutter control at the expense of quality. It tries to take high shutter speed over narrow aperture. Daylight in ISO 80 gives U over 1/400 at F2.6. Daylight in ISO 400 gives you 1/2000. Exposure & focus locking work.
In movie mode, there is no ISO control, exposure lock, and zoom is weird. It uses optical zoom when not recording and digital zoom when recording. It uses digital zoom on whatever the last optical zoom was when recording video.
There is focus lock and exposure offset in movie mode. Movies are stored as JPEG and probably good enough to replace equivalent priced DV camcorders. An 8 gig SD card stores 1 hour of its highest quality video.
Unfortunately, it sometimes fails to initialize the CCD when powered up on a low battery. Try again and it usually works.

There have been no problems with either camera and its been a year.
I have taken some nice pictures with the macro setting of shrimp and fish in my aquariums. On the normal indoor setting it has taken good pictures time after time. The video feature works well and the sound is good.
My only beef with the camera is that it shipped with one tiny card that would only hold 2 pictures. As cheap as cards are they could pack one that could hold more pictures than that.

Buy a decent size memory card to go with it, so you can use it on maximum resolution.
Only negative is the shutter lag (time between pressing the shutter release and it taking the picture) which can mean you've missed what you were trying to shoot, but that seems standard on digital cameras at this price. If that's a problem then you need go buy a digital SLR!

Mary Ann (a pre-technology grandma)

We leave it on the AUTO setting most of the time, and it does well, especially outdoors, even with the kids in motion.
We were surprised at how well it captures details, and the colors are rich.
It has a decent zoom.
The video comes out well for a "snapshot" camera.
It is lightweight, but not tiny enough to lose.
What we've learned:
Turn the LCD off if you want your batteries to last!
Play around with the settings for indoor/ low light settings.
Overall, this is a nice, consistent camera for capturing family moments, great for the price.

first off, i have to admit i was expecting it to be a little bit bigger than it is, but that's not a bad thing. it's not tiny, but it is small. however, the size allows you to take it anywhere. it weighs about as much as pb&j sandwich on wheat grain bread and fits in the palm of your hand or pocket. talk about convenience!
the lcd screen on the back is plenty big and the pictures are true. i have played with all the settings yet, but i've been more than happy with the results so far. previewing the picture is a breeze and deleting a picture you don't want is as easy as pushing a button. the menus are fairly intuitive and easy to maneuver. i haven't tried the video mode yet, so i can't comment on it, but i have no reason to believe it won't work flawlessly.
if you're a pro or want the latest in cutting edge, this definitely isn't the camera for you. if you're like me and you just want a reliable, easy to use, digital camera, you couldn't do a lot better than this one. like i said, i'm really happy with mine--at least so far. just make sure you buy a higher-capacity memory card [i don't know why 2gb cards aren't yet standard].
you get a lot of camera for the price, but the real value, of course, is in pictures you take. those are pricless.

I was having trouble with some photos taking a long time to save to the disk. I did find in the manual that the disk needed to be formatted and this could lead to long downloads. Got a new disk and formatted it. It seems to be working OK now. The only thing the manual said about very short battery life was that the camera may be too cold. I live in the Seattle area -- wouldn't think it was cold enough here for that to be the cause? Other than that, I'm thinking there is something now wrong with the camera?
Wonder if anyone else has experience this problem -- didn't read anything about it when I was reading the reviews before purchasing. Any suggestions?
Other than that, I've been relatively happy. Before I had a Canon Elph 3x zoom with 4 pixels and it was great. But I wanted a 4x zoom so taking pictures of bands at shows was a bit easier when farther away.

Speed between photos is also slow so I can't capture my little guy doing silly stuff.

Unfortunately I am not overly impressed. The build is not as good as the older A70, and more importantly, the image quality is inferior. Pictures are less sharp and the colours less natural than I am used to from the older camera.
It is not a "bad camera" and for the price it is a bargain. I like the size, I like the optical viewfinder (increasingly rare these days) but it is not of the quality I have come to expect from Canon. I could not recommend this camera, and instead would suggest that paying the extra for the A580 or A720 would be a better move.
