I received the 70D and used it for a Prom Shoot the next day - big mistake. Many of my shots were soft focused and it took some work in Photoshop to rescue them.

Fortunately Canon Service is just a few miles away and took it in and they readjusted an electrical setting in the camera and now focus is much more accurate.

However, the barrell of the 18-135 lens now slops around enough to make a low frequency thud when moving the camera over a slight vertical arc. I found various complaints about this in camera forums. My own research with several other copies in camera stores this weekend indicates that this behaviour is inconsistent from one copy to the next.

Others have said that they have sent this in for repair and had it returned by Canon with the the response "in spec". However I don;t know how a lens purposed for video can ever be in-spec if it makes low frequence clunking noises when moved during use.

Mines is back at Canon this morning and if they can't correct it - sadly back to Amazon it will go. This is one camera combo I would buy from a local shop where you can inspect it first and they have a friendly exchange policy.

I love the crispness of the pictures. I bought this because we have young children and I realized that the pictures and videos that I have been taking on my cell phone leave a lot to be desired. This Canon fits the bag to fix that. I also have a Canon printer and can print the photos using wireless without any hassle at all. I can set the paper size on the camera and tell it to print. It's great. Just what I was looking for.

Read the professional reviews. This is a great camera. As a long-time Canon user with a 5D MKIII, multiple 'L' series lenses, etc. I could say little else. This is a perfect only body for the serious photographer or a second for full-frame owners. However, consider other sellers.Amazon's performance on my purchase was appalling and possibly fraudulent. This particular purchase was a gift for my sister in Europe, ordered four days before my recent trip. On delivery the box was clearly re-sealed, accessory packaging opened, and other signs of hasty re-packaging evident. Immediate contact with Amazon resulted in an assurance that the product was new and that there was no way this was a returned/re-packaged product. After discussion, Amazon agreed to send a replacement but this did not arrive in time for my flight and was cancelled.I wrote, I called, I suggested that the replacement be delivered directly. The response was negative or arrogant to the extreme. As a result, I've paid full-price for an 'open-box' (being charitable) product. Oh yes, the proof... Come on Amazon, you can train your packaging staff better than that. The included strap was from a 5D, not 70D, and (I now know having bought another) that packaging was missing. Fraudulent or just sharp practice is debatable. Poor customer service is beyond doubt.

The perfect camera for the enthusiast. I purchase the 'dummies guide to the d70'' at the same time . The instructions shipped with the camera are very inclusive but almost indecipherable and written in a tiny script. the dummies guide has been invaluable in learning the fantastic capabilities of this fine camera. I most highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys photography and takes the art seriously

I've been using the 70d for about a month now and am very pleased with it. I can operate the camera without thinking now and all of the buttons seem to be in a perfect place, not to mention that you can customize them to do whatever you want. The touch screen is very responsive and I didn't think I would use it but now I use it just as much as the buttons. the camera feels light in comparison to other dslr cameras and I take that as a positive when shooting but I have definitely felt better build quality cameras. I think you are paying for the features in this camera and not necessarily the build quality. If you are looking for a camera that has superb build quality that can withstand snow, rain and crazy temperatures, I would go with something like the Pentax k-3 or one of Canon's more expensive models like the 5d mark iii.

This DSLR I got as upgrade from my 2009 Canon T1i, there are so many things I love about it:
-Pro-consumer display give more info and easy control over the camera
-the flip out back is great for astrophotography, save your neck from twisting
-the 18-135 is a great walk-around lens
-ISO is usable to 3200 easily, and 6400 with modest noise reduction applied

This is a great camera. A good balance of the latest technology and affordability. If you're not interested in the HD video with sophisticated lenses, the 60D is probably all you need but this 70D is a camera that simply wasn't possible at a reasonable price a few years ago. Canon excels at smarter, more advanced technology (while Nikon does slightly better at making cameras that feel like film cameras used to) and this camera does not disappoint. Unless you need full frame (and you almost certainly don't), this is the top of the line.

After taking an early retirement from weddings and events, I recently pick this up because I needed a reliable camera system for indoor flash photography for dancers in dim lights. High Image Quality from Poor light, quick focusing moving subjects, .... were my primary intend for this. Basically, I'm getting this so, I won't miss a shot shooting photo journalist style.Since there are so many reviews to read, I'm keeping it short.PROFastest and most reliable AF in its class in good outdoor light.with a wide 80% dedicated to AF (in AF-C mode), it works nicely with Flash that has the AF illuminating light.Overlay of info in view finder makes composition a piece of cake.The red AF confirmation in view finder keeps my eye on the subject not having to wonder off center.The kit lens focus in near silent. Of all the L lenses I've used, this sounded like how cat walks, dead silent.Articulated screen is awesome.wireless flash works as expected.Nice Hi ISO; doing ISO 3200 more often now.CONISO-A mode under expose (by 1.5 to 2EV) frequently with external flash on bracket.buttons are not back-lit. I know one day I will get used to the positions of the button. But, having back-lit buttons would flatten the learning curve, while I am looking at the picture on LCD and change parameter at the same time.The lens 18-135mm has good focal length; it's sharpness fall off quickly toward the corners.can battery be charged via USB? I have never had a DSLR before but I am happy that I chose the 70D. It is an amazing camera. It has a plethora of features including in camera wifi, which I often use. I can use an app on my phone that allows me to remote access my camera so that I can take pictures without actually being there. It is a neat little feature. I have had it a few months now and I am impressed. It is also really easy to use and get used to. I love it.

I too have experienced the out of focus issues described by others. Very frustrating, because apart from that I like the camera, the colors are very good. But it unacceptable to take photos of people close by, and most of them were out of focus!! Pictures of a group of people standing in a square, with a monument behind them, and the camera focused on the monument!! Pictures of people's faces at a dinner table, soft! Things in fromt of them might be focused, or things behind them might be focused. Very disappointed, I was using good 24-105 L series lenses. No excuse for this. My pocket cameras take better pictures!

Only had it for a week and taken a few pictures, certainly better than my 1000D.
A couple of minor niggles that purchasers should be aware of.
Whilst it has Wifi; if like me you run on a Windows 'phone/tablet there is no app. It is only compatible with Andriod and Apple.
Also if like me you take photographs in Raw it is certainly not compatible with Adobe Elements 11 (my choice of editing software) so you have to convert files into DNG first to be able to use them (not difficult but a pain). It looks like I will need Elements 13 to be able to see your files directly and having just spent a lot of money on this my senior financial adviser has said no to spending any more!
Certainly a good upgrade from my 1000D.

The Cannon 70D is simply amazing! I must tell you that this camera makes me look like a PRO and I knew nothing about photography other than I love the story a picture tells.

I did not buy mine from Amazon but should have. There is really no way to explain how many functions this camera has and it is a wonderful adventure to experiment and learn how to use this camera. I recommend getting a two lens package verses the one lens.

This camera really hits the spot between full frame and entry level DSLR and it does it with style. There are so many nuances of focussing, exposure etc. available that I think an independent guide, written by someone who has used the camera exhaustively, helps enormously to get you on your way to making full use of this magnificent piece of kit. I am enjoying it greatly and am encouraged to experiment in ways that are often rewarding. Practice makes perfect!

Very nice, fast ans complete camera. I had a T4i and this one is just a higher level even though I cannot complain about the other one. 100% Recommended!

While on a month long trip to the US, I decided to upgrade from my point & shoot to the Canon 70D. Before buying I enquired that the warranty was valid worldwide as I live in Europe. I was told so, both through an Amazon question and from a reputable NYC store that I Adore...
Back in Europe when ready to download, I realised that the camera and the Mac didn't communicate. Not a big deal as I can take the card out, but it makes shooting while connected impossible. So I went to the repair store and they told me: The main circuit board is faulty but Canon worldwide warranty doesn't apply in Europe. I enquired with Canon Europe and indeed, that's the answer I got. What's the result? I have to pay 389€ to fix a camera which is faulty right out of the box. Shame on you Canon. I'm done with buying your gear and I'm switching to mirrorless... Better and at least I'm done with one crook: Canon

love my new camera! such an improvement over the basic rebel I had, no comparison. I've had it a year now and no complaints, still learning to use everything. have had others purchase it after viewing mine.

This camera is a great upgrade to the 60d, the biggest improvement is the continuous auto focus during video. The picture quality is also a tad better.Very fast focusing I love this camera. I have owned a rebel first one 6 megs, T1i, T2i and a 60D.
All great cameras but this one has vastly improved those models.

originally ordered a pentax camera but it gave me tons of color cast issues and other problems. I finally sucked it up and returned it and it was the best decision I made. The 70d is fantastic... touch focus is awesome, the af is fast and smooth, rarely misses, low noise and great image quality. I'm very happy with this camera and it's features.

Not sure yet, I gaven't been able to set up photos to go to my mobile yet, a bit complicated. Not sure if I would go for the same camera again. Sorry.

...and thankfully this camera allows me to take some pretty fantastic photos with the auto setting. I purchased this model specifically for the wifi feature that allows you to send photos to your computer or device wirelessly. I've owned it for 5 months now and am still in love with it. My next purchase will be an upgraded lens. You may want to buy some spare batteries...

I am glad I waited for this model, it is easy to handle, and takes good pictures. It does have many features and many selections for each button which makes it confusing at times. I like the ability to take movies with his camera. The ability of viewing through the lens is a plus, so is the swiveling LCD screen. Setting up wifi hotspot is a bit cumbersome, I wish it was made easier. It does not have capability to transfer pictures to a computer via wifi though. The battery does not seem to hold charge for a long time compared to my Canon Rebel XT.

Love this camera. Decided to upgrade from the Rebel T3. I paid the same price for the camera at BJ's with the 18-135mm STM kit lens and got an extra Canon LP-E6 battery, a Canon 300DG gadget bag, CL-10 32GB SDHC card, EOS 70D tutorial DVD, and mini Belkin HDMI cable all for the same price it is here on Amazon. Love Amazon, but couldn't pass up that deal.

Awesome! It really is. It surprised me to find that it had a touchscreen, which I didn't realize upon purchasing it, but it has really been helpful. It also has a few editing features such as a fisheye effect which is cool. The pictures come out really clear and much better than my last model (which was a Rebel T3).

It even came a week earlier than expected!

It's more than a beginner's camera. If you have mastered other cameras, you can probably pick this up with no problem. I haven't shot a lot of video with it but I've taken plenty of photographs. It's has a fast burst speed to it compared to my Panasonic GH1k. I wanted a camera that is heavier in weight and this is it. Ergonomic. I find that there are quite a few EF lenses to choose from. I have 3 now with 2 on the way. Photos are large. Follow focusing functions for video are really good. Nice range of ISO settings for lower light. Touchscreen on the lcd is a nice added feature.
