If you have an EOS M you probably got this lens with it. If not, if you got the 22mm instead, then get this lens now. The optics are typical Canon mid-range quality. This is not an L lens but has good sharpness and contrast. It appears to be well built, the lens is all metal (at least the touchable parts) and zooming is smooth. At the current pricing, it is an absolute steal.

I received this lens as a gift for Christmas to go with my eos m. It's really nice to have both lenses!
Pictures are turning out great, I have no complaints.

Lens was packaged carefully and arrived on time. Overall, I would recommend this seller!

This lens was purchased to replace a series 1 which developed an inability to focus automatically, which I gather is a stock fault and well known. The replacement series 2 has now performed well for a year with a wide range of subjects from moving steam loco's to close-ups of flowers with great results.

Excellent packing and just arrived before the time was expected a few day (UK to Malta). the lens seems working fine and very stunningly quiet focussing! Surprisingly, a 58mm UV fliter was included in the package for free!!! I just love it and I will definitely strongly recommend this to my friends!

Bought this lens as a replacement for the Mk 1 version which came with the camera. This one had the Image Stabiliser which I wanted.
Great advantage for me is it's lack of weight. Now carry the camera everywhere.
The photos taken are sharp and I'm really pleased with them.
Haven't as yet found any disadvantages.
I already have a Canon EFS 18-200, which is great if I don't want to swap lenses over and a Canon EF 75-300 111 USM (bought many years ago). which I use regularly
The 18-55 is just lighter and as I do a lot of walking' it's suits that purpose.

This lens autofocuses faster than the 22mm STM pancake, but even with the new firmware update, the EOS-M is too slow for my needs (toddler). I found myself carrying around the camera with the 22mm simply because it could fit in my pocket, whereas this 18-55mm, which has very good build quality, was just too big.

The EOS M isn't a DSLR replacement, it's a point-and-shoot replacement for DSLR owners and makes a great 2nd camera, but unless you carry it on a strap or have a purse/fannypack, it's not portable enough.

Great all purpose lens for the much maligned EOS- M. Since Canon released a new firmware update addressing the focussing speed the camera focusses much more quickly to a point where speed isn't an issue. The 18-55 lens is a great lens to keep attached for everyday use. It's light, produces sharp pictures, good zoom range, acceptable macro, fast and quiet. Very happy.

Photo quality is great. Lens is light weight and decent size. I wish there was a smaller zoom, though. Overall, though, (combined with the firmware upgrade on the EOS-M), I now use my Canon EOS-M and this lens very often.

I bought this for the EF-S 18-55mm IS STM lens that came with my 700D, works perfectly and does not rotate as someone else mentioned when used on the corrent lens. Note this is ONLY for the STM lens which do not rotate the filter end of the lens.

Solid piece of canon engineering, but a bit pricey from where I bought it.

This lens came with the M as part of the kit with 90ex flash. Quality of photos as well as build quality is very high. Better than I thought it would be. Not too heavy even with metal construction. Very sleek finish. No switches on lens. AF is controlled from camera menu. Sensible filter size, 52mm, so easy to get filters, hoods etc. I'm just waiting for a telephoto to come out now.

I have had all three generations of this kit lens. Each generation has got better. The last I.S. one I had started to get a sticky zoom action so I bought the new STM one. The new STM lens is better in every way. Silent focus with full-time manual focus and a proper focusing ring, and also a non-rotating front element which is much better for polariser and graduated N.D filter use. Even the resolution has improved. The last one was very good but this new one is exceptional.

Had a hard time getting the lens delivered to me in Iceland because my order details were in Chinese and the only thing written in English was "10 DOLLAR", so customs had a hard time understanding what to do with the item. In the end I received the lens (even with the delay it was still a faster delivery than expected) and so far it works great. Very happy customer.

Its very poor because when the lens focuses the hood rotates with the lens. It should stay stationary. As anyone should know.

This lens is very sharp on my Eos M camera. I like it more than the pictures from my 22mm. Good range, fast focusing. Don't believe the negative comments about the Eos M. With this lens you will get some great shots.

All in all, I am very favorably impressed by the 18-55 STM. It is sharper and smaller than the ef-s 18-55 Canon offerings. It's also sharper than Sony's NEX 18-55 (I've owned all of these). It focuses quickly and silently. I had no trouble with focus noises in a couple of quick videos I did of my son playing basketball. The only apparent drawback of this lens is that it will flare if there is a direct light source in or near the frame (especially the sun). I know it is a common complaint about Canon, but they really should have included a hood with this one.

Pictures are sharp and compare very well to pics from my full size L lens. Focusing is smooth and silent and are a great combination with the EOS M. The 22mm that came with it is nice as well but zooms are always handy when you don't want to carry your whole bag with you.

It is a great lens for general photography. Lightweight, compact and fast autofocus. Takes great picture but given that it is a zoom lens with the usual restrictive apertures, we cannot expect prime lens performance.

This is one of Canons kit lenses and therefore the body is mostly made of plastic. The upside is that it is light, the downside is that it is a tad fragile. This purchase is a replacement for my original which broke whilst on hols. The fact that I am replacing it rather than getting a different lens is a testament to the great optical qualities of the lens and the versatility of the 18-55mm range as well as the super price. Just handle with care!

When the EOS M cae out I purchased it immediately. It's smaller then a lot of the point and shoot cameras available, and the quality of the pictures are great. When I bought my camera it only came with the 22m lens. It's a fast and nice lens, but for every day use, I needed a zoom. The range is great, although it would have been nice to see it go beyond 100mm. Its relatively sdmall and fits in my camera bag for the EOS M. Don't forget to buy the 52mm UV filter to protect it.

It does everything they claim for it and it works well. If you want to take things to the extreme and then blow the photo to billboard size the edges do blur and distort. What else would you expect?

I have owned many Canon lenses but when the ones I had for my camera became too heavy, I went for this, the basic kit lens. While the word basic is there, it is a lovely little lens, surprisingly sharp and the colours are accurate, the only thing that could be improved is the auto focus, it could be a little faster, other than that the IS works well and the image quality is superb for the price.

This lens is represents good value for money as an entry-level kit zoom lens. It is a cheap way of getting you up and running with a Canon EOS series digital SLR and gives fairly reasonable results.

But if you have used better quality fixed lenses in the past should bear this in mind:

1). There is very noticeable barrel distortion at a focal length of 18mm.
2). There is very noticeable diffraction at F16 and smaller apertures.
3). Chromatic abberation always seems to be present.
4). In summary, after doing a fair few lens tests, I found that the best aperture was F11, other apertures gave a far "softer" focus. I wouldn't say that photos taken with this lens are particularly sharp.

I mainly do outdoor landscape shots where the shortcomings of the lens are apparent if you view your photographs in a large format.

In hindsight I guess I was expecting too much of my lens for the price I paid [which is why I am giving 4 stars rather than anything lower]. I have heard people recommend the 17-55mm USM lens, but that is nearly 6x the price of this lens!

I got this at a very good price (I checked it was the mk II lens - the price seemed almost too good to be true). There are some limitations to this lens but frankly at the price point I think it offers phenomenal value for money. It isn't fair to compare it with lens costing three or four times as much. For new entrants to photography or reasonably serious amateurs it does the job and the IS is excellent.

An ideal lens for starters, but for anyone a bit more serious then this lens does have its drawbacks. I haven't noticed any sifgnificant barrel distortion, unlike a previous reviewer. However, I have experienced problems with autofocussing, even in "ideal" conditions, and significant decentering, where the image was sharper on one side than the other. I was hoping to eliminate or minimise the latter effect by using certain focal lengths or apertures, but it appears to be an unpredictable effect. I sent that lens back and they've sent a replacement which I haven't had much chance to use, but now plan to upgrade to a 10-22 mm EF lens.

I broke my lens kit lens I for my EOS 400D (about 5yrs old) and ordered this lens to replace it on standard delivery.

I was very suprised to see it arrive the next day!

Was even more pleased to find that it performs better than the lens I had broken and now has added stabilization capabilities.

Worth every penny :>

Product received prompt from dealer and in good packaging. Have not had much opportunity to use this product yet. However this is a replacement lens because the Auto focus of the Mk1 lens that came with the Canon 450D broke and was told by canon that it would cost around

Was a bit wary of this as it was so cheap but still has IS fitted but needn't have worried. Not had much opportunity to use it yet but when I have, it has performed impressively, even in poor light.
So far so good and an excellent bit of kit-recommended to anyone thinking about buying one.

Hello!
I'm very dissapointed with this lens. I'm not sure if it's a proper canon lens. If it is canon, is very bad one. It does not matter how much I try to focus, it never gets a sharp and crispy focus, it has like a milky layer and believe me I know how to focus. Even with autofocus, still not good. The lens came in a withe box, and inside a plastic bag. It does not say made in Japan, as the original canon, so I do not want to accuse the seller, but the lens is not good. Again as Isaid before, if it is a real canon lens, is just rubbish.

When purchased second-hand, my Canon 300D had a 70-300mm aftermarket zoom lens. I needed something which would give wider angle and to a certain extent, macro, capability. As this lens is a later edition of the lens fitted originally to my camera, it was perfect. Everything is as the original with the addition of image stabilisation. Job done.
