I have a Nikon Slide Scanner V. I want to scan some more slides and looking for a replacement, as the Nikon is no longer supported in Windows 7, unless you wish to purchase Silverfast Software. I bought the Canon 9000 and after scanning 20 slides, it stopped working. A quick call to Canon Customer Service and I found that either I had to send in my unit for repair or they would send me a refurbished unit and pay for the shipping both ways. Great Deal). As the scanner was still under it's original 30 day warranty from Amazon, Amazon stepped up to the plate and sent me a new scanner and I didn't have to use Canon's Awesome Customer Service. I'm scanning Kodachrome and Ektachrome Slides at 4800 dpi and Unsharp mask turned on, along with FARE at Low. If you buy the 9000 you will see where these settings are. The output, in .TIF looks very good. I'm only doing a minimal amount of touch-up in Adobe, compared to the amount that I had to do in Nikon Scan. Too bad Nikon didn't continue with their product, knowing that there are many people out there that are converting their slide collection to digital. The used NIKON's are fetching top dollar on other market places. For what I paid and as easy as it is to use, I believe I made a very good choice with the Canon 9000.

Bought two of these for our office to do some medium sized scanning jobs. They work great and having duplex makes them even better. Very easy to use and was able to set up to use with Paperport. Would recommend this to a small office that needs scanning at the desk. Nice size-won't take up a lot of room on the desk.

I don't have a ton of room on my desk so I was curious if this would work out. And... it does. It's perfect. Even when completely expanded, it's still very compact and does not dominate your office space like most scanners. And the quality is excellent. I don't scan pictures with it so I am not sure how the quality would be for a finer image but I scan documents all day long and it is perfect. When it's made by Canon, you rarely have to worry about the functionality. I haven't disliked a single product I have bought from them: Printers, Cameras, and now Scan-tini... all work great! If you goal is to maximize your office space and still get great results this is what you are looking for!

...broke down after about a year and little use: less than 1000 pages scanned for sure.Scanner now just says "unknown error" when scanning documents and that is that. Minus points also for non-exisating user support and inconveniences with drivers (same like those cheap Chinese OEM devices: ugly, uninformative and shabby.)

Several times, I've done the numbers on having my backlog of 35mm slides scanned by a service versus doing it myself with some kind of low-cost equipment. Well-reviewed scanners all had some kind of drawback or other -- or were too expensive. And I never wanted to take the risk of shipping irreplaceable slides off to a service. This time, though, the combination of good reviews, reasonable price, and compatibility with Hamrick's VueScan software tipped the balance, and I bought one of these 9000Fs.I am completely satisfied, both with the machine and with the economics. I looked at various services (whose prices are all over the map, by the way) and came up with a rough average of fifty cents a slide, including outbound shipping. With this scanner, I paid for that, including the cost of shipping the scanner overnight to me, in three days of quite painless effort. Around the four hundredth slide, it became free. Of course, I'm ignoring my time to do it, but since you can multi-task in between batches of four, I was able to continue work on other things. And what a simple device to set up! If (unlike some other users, apparently) you don't overlook the "unlock" switch, it came up fast and easy, worked first time, and keeps on working. As far as the software is concerned, use VueScan for flatbed work, but if you're just rescuing large numbers of slides, I find the Canon software to be extremely efficient and easy to use. If you set it up properly, you can scan four slides with one mouse click or carriage return, then go off and do something else for about four minutes, load four more, and do it again. Simplest thing I've used for this process. As always, the most clumsy thing about scanning slides is handling the slides themselves, not dropping them, getting them the right way around -- once they're in the machine, you're essentially done. One thing to note: you really do want to hook this up to a reasonable PC. I have a dual-core HP desktop with 6g of memory and Win7 64. Some people have reported that less than 4g will turn up issues with the Canon software, and I suppose I can believe it. With the size of image files, all it would take is one memory leak somewhere in the code to cause problems on a big scale. And of course, I can't comment on the Mac experience.Otherwise, if you have lots of film to preserve, I recommend this machine highly.

So it turns out that if you have a new desktop with new windows the scsi card will not work for this device. So, I don't know how good this device is because seems no one is making new scsi devices. So, I guess that means I have to partition my new PCs hard drive, buy and old windows version to install and hope it works. More money and time. All a waste.

Just received the scanner today and got it set up without any problems and ran it through some initial scan tasks. Here are my initial thoughts:- Has great aesthetics, but the body of the scanner picks up fingerprints easily thanks to the glossy black plastic construction.- Had no problem installing the separator pad that some users forgot about or had trouble installing.- Scanned about 100 pages thus far both single and double-sided and had very little skew (disabled the skew correction option).- Scan speeds are quick enough (I didn't take a stop-watch to time everything, but it's fast enough to meet my expectations).- Scan quality at 300dpi b/w is clear enough, not super crisp as if it were a 1:1 laser print, but clear enough to read easily.- The auto blank-page skip function is very useful.- There is only one button on the scanner itself that can be pre-programmed with a scan setting. Useful and cumbersome at the same time since it takes as much effort to scan from the scanning software as it does to change the button to a new setting.- The built-in "lite" scanner software that is plug-and-play is very useful.- The maintenance software for resetting the internal counter doesn't work on Windows 7 for some reason (program loads but doesn't detect the scanner) although the scanner works fine with the included software and via the TWAIN driver in a Windows 7 environment.- Scanned a few business cards. You definitely need to feed it in narrow-side first to prevent the card from sliding around as it feeds in. Scan speed for business cards is a little slower (probably due to the thicker card stock), and the included business card software is better than nothing, but certainly not the best software out there. I couldn't seem to get the software to include the back of the card on the first scan pass even though I had it set to duplex scan (ended up having to feed the card through again and specifically tell the software I was scanning the back of the business card, but even then it won't OCR the back image of the card). Maybe if I read through the manual for the software there's a way to achieve this, but I haven't done that yet.All in all, I'm glad I was able to pick up a portable duplex scanner under $300 with decent speed and I'm looking forward to scanning my old documents so I can finally de-clutter my office files.

I got this a month ago, have run about 50 rolls of antique color neg and b&w film through it. Yes, the negative holder is flimsy but now I am used to it, it's not a problem. Seems to stretch the film a little, which is a good thing since some of my negs are badly curled. I have a lot of 120 film also, but I have not gotten to that yet. I save everything as TIFF files (storage is cheap, I like to be able to have maximum flexibility later)- about 40 seconds/neg frame. I go wash dishes, etc as it goes through 12 frames. Very happy with results, I leave all scans at 3500 dpi. I ran about 5000 frames through a dedicated film scanner I borrowed, I cant tell any difference! kudos to Canon. The included full Elements image processing software is worth about $90 by itself, it is the best there is unless you are a full photoshop person (professional territory), how can you lose - what a bargain. I limped along with an 8-yr old version, it was great, this is even better. Unless you are in business (max number of frames/hr) this is a great deal. I am thrilled!

I payed less than ?100 for this scanner and I have never regretted it!After researching online and purchasing a suitable SCSI card (about ?3) I got the scanner to work successfully with WinXPI found the Cannon software bundled with the scanner was awful so, on recommendation of many people on online forums I used VueScan to control the scanner. The scans that this duo make are brilliant! (view the scans on http://auberj.co.uk)The quality is great for a scanner of this price and age but it takes practice to know what settings to use in VueScan so don't give up!Overall a great little scanner and I would definitely recommend it

I have had mine for 8 years now, and I LOVE it. I bought it when I worked at a computer store. I am a photographer and have used it only for SPECIALLY OLD photos, scanned them into Photoshop (5, 6, 7, 8 and now 9 or aka CS2), and then restored the photos. It is small and thin, easy to store anywhere. It is also high resolution, they still do not have many, that are affordable, at this resolution.I did have 'a little' trouble installing the software at first but when I figured it out it was easy to install and easy to use. Over the years that I have had it I installed it on THREE different computer builds over eight years. So not enough trouble to take away any stars....... FIVE STARS for sure.Since I only used it for special work I only used it 12-15 times a year but at 8 years that is 100-150 scans, it is still like new and STILL has the clear protector on the cover/lid. However, now I have to sell it. I built a NEW computer, with Windows 7 64-bit and they quit supporting the drivers a few years ago so have NO 64-bit drivers.OH WELL, time to move on, I GUESS!! I have the SAME problem with my "PHOTOGRAPHERS PRINTER, an "Epson Stylus PHOTO PRINTER 1280" - NO 64-BIT DRIVERS!! It is a $600.00 WIDE 11" carrier, great for printing photos, 11" x 17" brochures, LARGE PHOTOS, etc. I used it A LOT but it still works GREAT but NOW they are FORCING us to upgrade upgrade, UPGRADE.See also my reviews on the Epson Stylus Photo 1280 and on 'WINDOWS 7' titled "Leaves a LOT to BE DESIRED!"THIS new computer build is costing A LOT MORE THAN I EXPECTED - besides these two items I have a couple of other items (hardware and software) that WILL NOT WORK with a 64-bit operating system! SO BEWARE IT YOU DECIDE TO GO TO 64-bit in the near future.See my Windows 7 Review too; titled "Leaves a LOT to BE DESIRED!"Guess I will have to figure out HOW TO sell these things though Amazon's Partner Program or whatever they call it?airs(dot)us(at)frys(dot)com

I purchased a Canon P-215 scanner for work. While in a client's home, it allows me to scan a client's documents. Unfortunately, the USB ports on my old and crappy notebook computer do not provide enough power to operate the scanner. I suspect that none of my USB ports on my notebook computer are powered. Thus the Canon 4179B004 AC Adapter was the power solution I needed. When I buy my next notebook computer, I will make sure it has powered USB ports.

I bought the P150 a couple of months ago, and I just love it. As a traveling sales guy, this is making my life much easier. I used to fax all the time, but the P150 has really reduced my faxing since I bought it. It's saved me countless time going down to the hotel desk to send in faxes, which might or might not get to where they're supposed to go, and might also cost a bunch to send. The P150 is really easy to use, and the files look crisp & clean. I think this is a terrific & essential tool for anybody on the road a lot. Scanning only takes a few seconds, and loading multiple pages is great. Only glitch I've had is when pages stick together (not the scanner's fault) and you might have 2 pages feed through together. I bought the AC adapter, but I've never used it. I just use the single USB, and my unit seems to work quite well. I do recommend getting the carrying case (optional), as it protects the scanner (they really should sell it as a package). It fits in my computer case too.Hope this was helpful, Amdew1

My company paid such high cost to got this so call top model CANON FrontScan 300P to serve our paperless office. We hood its connection to our FTP server is Ok after a few steps on both side (300P and server). The scanning roller speed is quick, but it is sometimes double feed, and aways feed with whole documents (up to 12 pages at once). such as bank statement. It is the worstest than the one of two CANON D1180 we are use currently.Hope CANON can positively face this issues, and do some modify on the machincal side to prevent the feeding problem.Others than that, I would highly recommand this model.

I have recently been getting back into medium format film shooting and wanted to create digital archives of the film negatives. Going though several professional reviews and user reviews, I purchased the Canon CanoScan 9000F because I heard good things about it's film scanning capabilities.Setup and installation was easy. The bundled software is ok if learning the science (and it really is a science) of scanning isn't your thing, but for me, it was very poor and highly limiting. There is no digital raw processing and saving, multi-expose scanning, or mulit-pass scanning. These are the main reasons I immediately through out the Canon software and purchased VueScan which gives you way more controls, features, and output options. After spending a good several weeks experimenting with the scanner, I've decide the CanoScan 9000F is just not for me. It falls well below my quality expectations. Although it's advertized as a 9600 dpi scanner, the actual optical resolution is somewhere between 1300 and 1700 dpi. Not acceptable. I think a lot of people who purchased the 9000F did so because of how much it's being marketed as a film scanner which also justifies the premium price of it versus other consumer scanners. It's a shame Canon can not fulfill these functions. Now I understand a $200 flatbed scanner isn't going to come close to a dedicated film scanner such as an Imacon or Nikon 9000, but I didn't think it would be as bad as it was. I've returned CanoScan 9000F and will be ordering an Epson Perfection V700 instead.

This little scanner is very easy to use and generates high-quality PDFs (or other formats) of photos, documents, etc. The feeder is surprisingly fast (especially if you are going with a lower resolution (i.e. 200dpi) for documents), so it's fantastic for scanning paperwork. Also, if you increase the resolution this is a great way to convert all your old snapshots to digital format.Another great feature is that the scanner scans 2-sided images, which it automatically detects so you don't end up with a bunch of blank pages in your pdf. Also, if a page is fed off-center the device will automatically de-skew the image.I can't say enough about this scanner - images are high-quality and it's durable, portable, easy to store, and worth every penny.

So this scanner is amazing! I needed to scan some old negatives of my mother-in-law's. After trying unsuccessfully with an old all-in-one scanner, I decided to give this a try. With a little bit of a learning curve, over the weekend I scanned in over 900 photos from 20-30 year old negatives with great results. The picture enhancements from the scanner (F.A.R.E., fade and color correction) are very good. Plus, you get a copy of Photoshop Elements that allows for a lot of other great enhancements. I even scanned a bunch of old 110 negatives with some manual correction of the scan areas - it was a bit tedious, but it did work. Otherwise, the automatic scanning option worked great for 35mm negatives. I also did some old slides, all great. I can't praise this scanner enough. I have not tried out the PDF creation or photo scanning abilities but I expect them to be great as well.If there is a negative to this scanner, it would be its size. It takes up a lot of real estate on the desk. The LED light starts up quickly and scans complete fairly rapidly. The onboard photo corrections slow down things somewhat, but it is still a good performing scanner overall.I would highly recommend this to anyone.
