It is a great item for regular books, but can not be used for college textbooks which was the reason I bought it. Also, if you a nuts about apps, don't get this gadget.

i got a 16gb microsd off of amazon for under $14.00 and it holds just little over 8k books, it was what swayed be over the kindle fire, that and the 1gb of ram vs 512mb. Now that they released a 8gb nook for $199.00 its price point is on par with the fire, and has the option of expansion, and a simple hack allows for a custom android launcher, and i can easily install the amazon app store(and kindle app), android market place, and have a very decent wifi tablet, tbh i wasn't much of a analog book reader, but with this little nook tablet i've been averaging a book a week, along with .99-1.99 monthly magazine subscriptions.when the original nook first came out i purchased one and took it back 2hrs later, it was less then what i expected, but i think barnes and noble has come a long way and now this version is very impressive.battery life is decent, depending on your screen brightness preference and netflix usage, unless i am at home, i usually have the screen brightness at little less then half, and wifi off, and get about 6-9hrs of nonstop read time, 3 days of casual reading/standby.

You would be crazy to buy here... its cheaper anywhere else. UPDATE I see amazon is now selling at the same price as the rest of the world so I retract...Also discovered another negative... When browsing the web the nook works fine on all sites EXCEPT AMAZON, now fancy that. It will stay on amazon about 30 seconds then pop back to where ever I was before web browsing. I've tried it over and over does it every time.Thanks to all who commented about the ability to still root the nook. it is more complicated now but doable. I'm debating about giving it a try. Updated 1/22/12There are things to like about the nook, BUTNo android marketB&N wants your credit card to download FREE apps - ain't gonna happenstuff that is free on Android Market cost money at the B&N app store. I.E. Angry Birds costs 2.99 but is free from Android Market.I bought this Nook because it was root-able... but no longer with the latest update B&N blocks attempt to root the device.BOO HISS ON B&N.I never buy anything Apple because of the closed system. I totally believe in Open architecture for electronic devices. The closed system ONLY benefits the seller not the user.If all you want is a reader, email and the web. then hey go for it. but I truly disappointed and may return it.

B&N locked the Nook Tablet since beginning of January to remove sideloading of apps and such. If you were hesitant to purchase one because of that, don't be. I was real dissapointed they did that so I found a way to root mine and now I am running Go launcher along side the B&N interface. I have full access to the android market for tablets and can download and install any apps I want. I voided the warranty by doing this, but If I had not been able to unlock it's full potential I would ahve brought it back anyway, so no loss here. As long as it's rooted to allow install and modification as you want this becomes a much better device than the Kindle Fire. The hardware, look, and feel is superior. It was the B&N bloatware and restrictions that were holding it back. Now that I have access to other book sites like Touchybooks (which are way cheaper than B&N books) I am really enjoying this with my kid and wife. I also can access cloud services now which means I am streaming my music from Google Music service while I read. That I really love.The only issue I have found so far is when my kid plays the Talking Ben dog app there is no sound, but that is beyond what this is supposed to do so thats not bad.

My Nook Tablet and I are inseparable! Everything that entertains and informs me all in my coat pocket.If it's comes down to whether you should buy a Kindle Fire or a Nook Tablet, Nook clearly wins. Yes, it's 50 bucks more but it's 50 dollars well spent. The Nook has more memory and a faster processor than the Fire. In real end-user terms that means you get the responsive light touch and quick displays iPad users know so well. Kindle Fire doesn't quite cut it.Most important (and I don't know why this isn't a no-brainer)you can store all your pics, docs, music and books on the Nook itself. The Fire requires a constant connection to the Internet. If you travel around enough or ride commuter trains, you know you're not always going to find wi-fi everywhere you go. A fat lot of good having my books out on the "cloud" when there's no wi-fi around.But here's the best part of all. You can plug in Micro-SD card that will boot up the Nook into a full Android tablet. That gives you access to the thousands of apps on the Android Market -- including Amazon's Kindle app. Now you have all the advantages of the par $500 -- $600 range tablets at half the price! Don't worry about voiding your warranty. Just take the SD card out and it reverts back instantly to the Nook Tablet you bought.

The Nook was disappointing for me. What really kills it is the operating system. It is based on Android but it doesn't resemble android at all. Your home screen is limited to a bookshelf and the app selection is pathetic; not even a Facebook app! There are almost no apps at all and the ones that are there you almost always have to pay for. It is great for reading magazines and books, however, and it is really easy to purchase content from Barnes and Noble. As far as the hardware is concerned it is okay. The screen is nice, but the body feels a little cheap. It doesn't have a camera or gps. Overall I would say that this is a good ebook reader but its not good for anything else. The Blackberry Playbook is a superior tablet and it is in the same price range as the Nook.

I consider myself a well educated electronics purchaser who did a lot of homework over getting the kindle fire or the nook tablet. Being a tech geek, I decided to go with the nook because of its superior specs and the fact that I prefer the nook reading experience better than the kindle one. After doing my homework and playing with the tablet in the store I felt I made the right decision until I got it home.The nook market absolutley ruins this thing to the point I am looking to root it. There are next to zero free apps and despite already knowing that the tablet would not honor the apps I already own in the android market for my phone, I never expected in a million years that APPS THAT ARE NORMALLY FREE IN THE ANDROID MARKET ARE OVERPRICED EXTENSIVELY. For example, Angry birds seasons is free on android market. Its $3!!!!!! on the nook app market. This is rape.And if you are expecting to root this device, it appears barnes and noble is aggressively patching their device to disallow the use of outside apps.If you want to read books only, get the nook color or an e-ink device. If you want a tablet, This will only frustrate you. I feel violated and disappointed I overlooked the pricing on the market.

There are several things I enjoy about this tablet. The fact that it's easy to use right out of the box, that it has good connection speed, doesn't require a 3g plan, and what I've tried to do has worked pretty well. However, there is a lot left to be desired especially in the way of apps. Admittedly, I have been spoiled by Apple's wide app variety on my ipod touch, but I have noticed a scarcity of apps for very common and popular programs that irritates me. For example, youtube: one can get on youtube from the web browser, but it lacks the usability of an app on a tablet device. Skype is another. I contacted support and was told that the tablet did not support skype because "it doesn't have a built in camera."I understand that this is a new product and much is still being developed, but the Nook has a long way to go before it has the range and depth to fully satisfy. These are only two examples of several programs I've found lacking with this tablet. Frankly, had I realized the paucity of apps even for hugely popular programs, I would not have purchased this product. And if this issue isn't corrected, I will not be purchasing another Nook product.

I needed a personal computer for a trip that I took but did not have a laptop. The nook fit that bill just fine, and I could read, or listen to some audio programs at the airport during lay overs. Hotel had free wifi that allowed me to keep up to date on email, weather back home, etc. It is very light and portable, so that's why I got this one for myself. Love it!

I asked for B & N gift cards for christmas to purchase this. Boy was that a mistake since now I'm stuck with it or $250 in B&N credit - neither of which I want. Wish I had realized you could only purchase B&N overpriced books and apps (which are free elsewhere and very limited). This was a question we even asked at the store and the guy said all the book prices are set and the same everywhere. This is completely untrue. I tried to check out ebooks from the local library and was unable to do that either. There was this whole big process with downloading some adobe and having to put the book on a computer and then on the nook. I gave up after about 20 min of trying. Wish I would've bought the kindle fire or an ipad and simplified my life. And what happens if B&N goes out of business like Borders? Then the device is useless since it's only meant for B&N products. Also look here for accurate reviews if you're interested in purchasing the nook tablet. B&N is screening the reviews and wouldn't post mine.

The Nook was well packaged and the shipping was very speedy. When I tried to register the Nook I was unable and after contacting both the seller and Barnes and Noble it was determined that it was a software problem. Barnes and Noble replaced the Nook and everything was resolved.

I could not be more pleased with - or impressed by - the Nook Tablet! I know that Amazon is "enemy territory", but the NT does a much better job of meeting my needs than would a Kindle Fire.Not only can I use my NetFlix account but I also have full access to the Amazon Prime website to watch films and videos!The screen is incredible - bright and colorful and very fast due to both the fast processor and the full Gig of RAM. I popped-in a 16G micro SDHC card and have more than enough room for my entire library of sideloaded epubs, pdfs, mp3s, and mp4 videos.And, of course, the primary use: It's now much easier to read in bed at night. The backlit screen means no more glare from an external reading light.

The B&N Nook is a great device. The hardware in it makes sure there is no lag or waits while watching videos, reading books, or surfing the web. The builtin apps are great, as well as the overall layout and options. The major drawback is the inability to load 3rd party apps...but roll back to firmware 1.4.0 and load all you want before upgrading. Or root it (although Amazon Instant Video will not work after rooting).

I was looking at expensive tablets that were more like mini notebook computers. I already have a high end notebook. I wanted something that was very portable and not combersome to take on trips, go to coffee shops and etc. I wanted the ability to get email, do limited surfing and read books. The Nook works flawlessly and the display is really nice. I have an N protocol router and the Nook is quick on the Net. I read some negative reviews here. They appear to be written by folks who want to take a $200 unit and turn it into a $500 unit with various apps and other applications. Here's a news flash for the naysayers. Go out and buy the $500 unit and quit complaining. If you want to read books, surf and get email, you'll like this unit.

Have no idea why people love this thing so much, you can't load any applications unless they are from the Barnes & Noble store and you can't even download the free version of Angry Birds.Apparently Barnes & Noble is worse than Apple at remotely disabling Nooks they deemed rooted by end users. You have less control of this thing than you would your TV.The root kits are useless for this OS version 1.4.2 and the instructions to root / jailbreak it read worse than rocket instructions from annoying geeks !It is an overpriced Barnes & Noble franchise in your dumb little hands and you're well served keeping your receipt and refunding it.

Don't be fooled this is not an android tablet like the android phones. You cannot go to the market and get free apps. You still have to go through Barnes and Noble. You have to use their browser. I bought it so I could use it for school but I cannot download mozilla. I called tech support and all they said was sorry. Basically it's an updated version of the nook color. You have more space. Everything I do on the nook table I did on the nook color. If you are wanting to get an android device where you can go to the market or amazon market do not buy the nook table.

So I've owned the Nook Tablet for 2 week now.It was amazing the first day.Quickly it became unresponsive.This is with NOTHING loaded on it.First it stopped turning the screen correctly.Then the load times started being absurd.And now for the last week I've been fighting with Barnes and Nobel to get a replacement.They don't want to replace their defective device.I wish I would have went with the Kindle Fire now.Dealing with Barnes and Nobel is not worth it even if the Nook Tablet has slightly better specs.I love Amazon.I should have went with them.I regret not.

I saw this product on Amazon and thought "what a great deal" because this is a 16GB version of the same tablet that Barnes & Noble is selling for $250 dollars.It mostly works, and the screen is great for reading books. I have had problems with the browser since 2 weeks of owning and the Apps have issues loading and playing some games. If I could, I would return this product and just pay out the money for a brand new one.

This is an amazing tablet w/ the bounus of havingn a wonderful eReader biult in. It is incredibly responsive and the Internet is almost like on a PC. Simply stunning. Though if you are getting this for a large selection of great apps, for very low prices/ free, go for an android tablet instead. There are very little free apps (Angry Birds, Free on android, 2.99 on Nook) but givin the giant book libray, and almosrt all the apps in a very low range ($.99-$3)it has alot to offer. The battery has a pretty good life span, just dont try and use it plugged in w/o an extention cord, due to the USB cord not going beoynd 2-3 feet. This is a great product, far better than the kindel fire,1GB of ram on Nook to 512MB on Fire, and a 1GHZ prossceser on the nook, with a 800MHZ on the Fire, same as the nook color.

I was so excited to get this as a gift from my son, but was so completely disappointed. This nook was returned within 24 hours. This is NOT a tablet. This is great for an ereader, but you could save yourselfs the $50 and just buy the Nook Color. While this has a great feel to it and a decent browser, there is nothing you can do with this outside of purchases made in the Barnes & Noble bookstore, if they don't have it, you don't get it. And as a side note, the B&N app store, not only do they have very little, there is very little free. I did manage to sideload the Amazon App store, however, it ONLY works on the microSD card. Some of the apps kept crashing. I didn't find any difference between the Nook Tablet and the Nook Color. This is most certainly NOT a tablet. Find something else. I have had much better luck with the Kindle Fire.

Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet (NEWEST Version, Color, BNTV250)The Nook Tablet is about $100 over priced.Web capabilities are very poor and slow; web capabilities on most smart phones are better than on the Nook Tablet. If you make a Google search it takes almost a minute before you can select and item from the search. The email APP is broken. If you delete an email it immediately reloads the deleted email.The book selection for the eReader is disappointing. One would expect that if you can buy the book in a Barns and Nobel store you should be able to buy it for the Nook. Many books, like the Harry Potter series, are not available for the Nook. If you do a search for Harry Potter you are presented with a list of papers written by students at Harvard.

I absolutely LOVE my Nook Tablet!! I got it for Xmas, and it has been amazing. It completely solved my issue of wanting both an iPad and an e-reader... it does both! Some people on here complained about apps, but I don't really care about apps so I havn't experienced anything like that with mine. Purchasing a book is really easy, and when you read you can set the styles yourself such as page color, font and font size, etc. And navigating the internet is super fast too, and I prefer it to using my iPhone for internet. I also love the Pandora radio feature- it doesn't even play ads which is awesome! So all in all, I am one happy camper. :)

I like the Nook tablet for reading; however, we also bought it for the internet. Unfortunately, I discovered that there is no way to filter the internet. Since adult websites are accessible, I need to give this tablet a low rating. I'd rather pay more money for the iPad and NOT have to worry about my kids going on inappropriate websites. Very unfortunate.

I had bought the Nook Tablet and was going through the registration process. Then after where you log in during setup it says error please shut down and try again. So I did. Next I just called 1-800-THE-BOOK. They had told me to reset it that didn't work either. After that they just sent me a new one in a replacement. In Addition, I gave it four stars for there assistance for Nook Support on there hotline they tried everything they could to get to work.

I got this from HSN on easy pay todays special for only $249. No bugs and super fast. There is free Wifi everywhere so why pay for 3G, if its really 3G. The color is amazing and the screen is super fast when scrolling. I have an Iphone 4s so if I need a camera to do skype, I'll use my phone. In the meantime, this supports Flash. I was considering getting the Ipad 3 that's coming out this March, but Apple refuses to partner with Flash. Why pay over $1K if no flash? Unless Apple does a giant leap in tablets, I'll stick with the Nook tablet.

The Nook Tablet looks good, if you have never used an IPad. The Wifi is terrific, if you want to sit in a Barnes and Noble store to use it. The Nook display is lovely, if what you want is constant advertising of Barnes and Noble books.Unfortunately, I have more things to do than sit in a bookstore, and read. After three trips back to the store trying to make the Wifi connection with my AT&T router, I wish I had never bought the thing.I took it back, and was still charged for a membership I didn't want.Buy the Ipad.

I bought this tablet yesterday and was very disappointed to find out that it would cost extra money for apps. I was told that it was an Android OS. After the setup, I discovered you can NOT get Facebook and most of the apps that are free from the Android market place cost ( like Words with Friends $2.99). If you don't want this for a tablet then I do say it was worth it. The colors are vibrant and movie quality is great. I ended up taking the Nook back for a refund today. I will just invest the extra money for a real tablet.

My son likes it means it's a good buy.What I like about it is the price on spec with expandable memory.Been looking for a tablet with a one two one means 1ghz dual core and 1gb of ram.Found it at Amazon.com and cheaper than buying at Barnes and Noble.Wanted to get the Kindle Fire but it only has 8gb of on tab memory.Thank you.

I bought it to read library and free books as well as books from Barnes & Noble. Forget that. I've been trying for days to get other epub books so I can read them decently. Even with help from someone at B&N, I haven't been able to make the Nook cooperate. Overdrive doesn't have a menu and I can't get Adobe Digital Editions to work. It might be fine for surfing and watching movies, but I want to read books. I'm about to give up and buy another generic reader. This is just too hard to navigate. B&N makes it hard to do anything but buy from them.

I purchased this last week after doing a lot of research of this and the Kindle Fire. I love this. I know the complaint about not being able to access the android market is valid, but I have seen buzz online of a card being created soon to allow this. The speed is great, easy to read the screen, and great for the cost if you can't afford an Ipad.

I am very happy with my nook tablet. I wanted a nook ereader that would allow quick and easy access to email and facebook for communication when i don't want to log on to a computer. I can look up info on the web in an instant. And i can save paper and get my magazines through my nook. If you want it to act like an ipad, then just get an ipad. As for me, i dont need all that, so i prefer to save my money. Very happy!(SENT FROM MY NOOK TABLET) ;-)

I use my nook every day for 2-3 hours of wonderful reading! I read the New York Times in the morning on my commute to work and read my books in the evening on my commute home. I play Scrabble with my friends, access all my documents (PDFs, Word docs, other ePubs) from my Dropbox app...basically everything at my fingertips!

I was given this device and absolutely hated the fact that i have to create a BN account in order to use it. Why do i have to do that? Whoever designed this need to be fired. I don't want to give my information away just because i need to use something that i was given. Other than that, the tablet is ok. It's responsive to the touch. The web surfing is good and movie viewing is excellent

customer service took days to respond and then with a form letter that ignored my problems.I've been trying to return the product but again customer service doesn't respond.Constant problems trying to connect online. Have to wait days for customer service.Do not buy this product

I owned Amazon Kindle Fire and was given the Nook Tablet as a present. It's slimmer than the Kindle Fire but not as responsive. Also, the fact that i had to create an account before i can use it is a tad annoying. Nevertheless, I like the fact that I can root it and install custom apps. Other than that, there is not much difference between it and the kindle fire.

it rely needs a new OS, I'm so mad I'm ready to break the stupid thing,specially because it doesn't let me add cover arts to my book I downloaded from other sites on internet.I have some problems with the apps and more.it's just a expensive piece of garbage.Do not waste your money.

Design wise I like the B&N readers more than others. The Nook Tablet is the one to love because it is offers significantly better value for the money than Kindle Fire for example (and HD Netflix streaming) - a good review here including rooting tutorial[...]

It accepts up to 32gb micro sd cards but does not work properly with a 32gb card. Mine would not boot because the card used too much energy. That was the only issue I had. Customer service told me to unplug the card before booting up and then insert the card. I returned it and purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus.Funny thing is Barnes and Noble rrjected my review.

I already have the NOOK Color, so getting the Tablet was a no brainer for me. Love it!! One feature that I like is that the front of the Tablet has a rubberized feel to it. Love that I can stream Netflix and Hulu+ on it. If you have the color and you're on the fence about getting this, get it! I gave my Color to my hubby and we couldn't be happier.

Ok, the Nook Tablet is obviously a superior tablet. Fast, amazing screen and downright sexy. However, Amazon has a FAR better web presence and overall superior services. Has anyone here been on the B&N site? It is so far behind Amazon. Just wish there were a happy medium here other than side loading.

I owned a Nook Color so I know how this works with B&N. To me, this feels like a Nook Color with improved and updated OS. It's a solid device but it's lacking the appeal of the iPad 2 or Kindle Fire.
