Item was received in good condition. Main reason for the purchase was that I had an available PCI slot so I got this instead of the DGX, which uses a PCIE lane.As per title, this soundcard is perfect for PC enthusiasts who are on a budget but want better sound quality from their PC.I would recommend this card to those with a spare PCI slot and a decent 5.1 headset.

I bought this card hoping to get 5.1 sound through it's optical output. This feature is hard to find nowadays in a sound card. Unfortunately the Asus XONAR-DG only outputs 2.0 sound through the optical out. So this was a disappointment to me, even though the quality of sound is pretty good.

Haven't had any compatibility issues whatsoever, works well with my 5.1 speaker/receiver. Mail in rebate is easy to get. The Xonar software that it uses is fun to mess around with but it could be a lot better. All in all if you are looking for a cheap 5.1 sound card this is a good one.

I am not a Hi Fidelity enthusiast that will debate Tubes vs Transistors. I am using the card in a 2.1 configuration.The card plugged in and worked without incident. I was replacing a full profile card that sat between to Video Cards in an SLI configuration.This cards low profile made it easy to fit without contacting the SLI bridging clip.No Complaints.

I purchased this card for a upgrade from onboard sound. The sound quality improvement was awesome. I have noted several reviewers having volume issues with front panel audio. The solution is very simple: I purchased a headphone/speaker switching unit and it works fine.

After much procrastination, I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 - 64 bit. My sound card was the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE. The upgrade went reasonably well, the sound card worked, but I could no longer find the Creative Audio Console (with the sound effect, equalizer etc.) It seems that Creative doesn't support the Audio Console for Windows 7 64 bit. I am not a gamer but I use my PC to feed my living room Sony receiver with streaming music and, of course, the music stored on the PC. I needed a good card with minimal effects but good sound and was resigned to pay up to 100 dollars for a replacement to my Creative card. Not being a techie type, I went to Micro Center for a little education.The sales assistant recommended the ASUS Xonar DG at close to 30 dollars. They also had a more expensive Xonar model (close to 90$). I explained to the sales assistant that I only have two speakers attached to the sound card, plus a line-out connection to my receiver. Surprisingly, he discouraged me from buying the more expensive model.The card installation went smoothly (I followed the instructions.) No driver problems. The most pleasant surprise was the sound - just great.The ASUS Audio Center is OK. I set the number of channels to 2, selected the maximum sampling rate (PCM 96 kHz), analog out to 2 speakers. The number of preset effects is limited but adequate and I programmed a couple more by adjusting the equalizer. I did not bother with any of the other selections on the Audio Console. The sound was very good across all music styles (I don't know about games, I don't game). I read a more exhaustive review of the card (after I bought it) here: [...]I'm glad I had problems with my Creative card software, otherwise I wouldn't have discovered this inexpensive little gem. Highly recommended.

Pretty much what the title says. I have no complaints with this card. It works well and was easy to install.Bought because my desktop's onboard sound made everything sound like it was dying (or that I was?). Regardless, real happy now.

This is a great card to upgrade from integrated. the sound quality is much better.Pros1. 5.1 surround2. Much better sound vs. integrated3. fits/works in any PCIe slot4. comes with a low-profile bracket if you need them for a small case5. 10/10 sound qualityCons1. Length, this card is a little bit longer but it shouldn't be a problem2.ASUS Drivers are CRAP and may need to be reinstalled multiple times. WARNING: i read other reveiws and they said that the driver will screw up a SLI config you may have.3.its not 7.1 compatable obviouslyOverall i would recommend this card. And i also give a Warning that ASUS drivers for this are iffy

Built a new computer and picked this up to get 3% CPU performance back. ASUS or Soundblaster and I went Asus since my motherboard, video card, and burner were all Asus and I'm like that. I bought the PCI version first but realized my MB didn't have the slot, sold it and bought the PCI-E version.Sounds great, but I can't tell the difference between onboard sound and a dedicated sound. The speakers are Logitech Z-680s.This was more about the 3% increase in CPU performance for some games.So...good work Asus.

This card complemented my logitech 2.1 system perfectly. I loved this card a lot, but sadly today, it suddently died while I was watching a video. The card is dead, the light will not even come on the spdif port. Seemed like a solid quality card, but I guess not. Good thing it didn't cost much money.

I was really skeptical when heard from here that this beats onboard. Because in the old day I couldn't tell too much difference between onboard Asus P5W vs X-Fi Extreme Platinum on Z-5500 speakers. Now having a HP m9300t (ALC888) with Z-2300, I am underwhelmed. So I pick one of this, guess what, it's really night and day between ALC888 and Xonar DG on my Z-2300 now. So much that I missed, now I can hear them. Bass is stronger too. I always hear praise for the strong bass z-2300 has - I know it is no comparsion to Z-5500 but should be pretty good. But I just cannot experience it with my onboard sound. Now with this card, I do feel the power of Z-2300. Sure, not as good as Z-5500, but pretty good at its price level.Interface is a bit confusing at first and only one channel had sound at the beginning of setup. But once got past it, everything is good.Bring the power of Z-2300 that it deserves.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good sound for the price. If you are looking for a excelling sound card and don't have a lot of bucks this is your card. The card shipped fast, but that's the less important thing about it. The card was so easy to install, windows recognized and install it right away and then I installed the super cool software that brings which is the codec for it and has a program to manage every single feature of your card, Hi-Fi,GX, a mixer, KARAOKE and the speaker system arrangement (2 speakers, 5.1, speakers, etc), Smart Volume, etc. The sound was perfect, smooth and all the speakers worked perfectly right after installation.Be aware that if you want to use SPDIF it will be only for stereo (2 speakers) since 5.1 is not supported in SPDIF for this card.After that the sound is addictive!

Inexpensive product that is worth the price. This is my second Asus card andI recommend them to you. Asus rarely updates drivers or software but there isn't much if anything they need to do for me.They have a user to user messageboard that is of questionable help

I will first and foremost state that this card does make a noticeable difference compared to my onboard sound (Realtek from a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L). As a sidenote, I noticed this difference after getting a decent pair of headphones (Shure SRH440's). The most notable improvement comes at the lower end of the frequency band, giving the headphones significantly more bass than the onboard. The onboard amp gives my 44ohm headphones plenty of volume (enough to cause moderate discomfort at maximum volume). Another advantage of this card vs my onboard is that it allows on-the-fly switching between the front panel and the rear panel ports, without having to close & reopen the program.The software is easy to configure and the GUI is simple, but some of the features (such as GX mode and Hi-Fi) don't provide exact descriptions of what they do. You basically just have to play with the settings and find out which configuration you think sounds best.I will say that I don't find the Dolby Headphone feature to be useable at all, but perhaps I haven't gotten the settings just right yet. It creates a very false echo-heavy environment and while it does help with some directional separation, it's more trouble than its worth. A better pair of headphones will help you out more than this feature will.I did have a small issue installing the card, but it quickly fixed itself. It seemed that when I attempted to install the drivers it would say that the card was not plugged in. All ports were receiving power there was a solid connection, but it would not install. Simply removing and reseating the card solved everything, and it worked fine.Overall, for $30 or less, it's a great value, a good upgrade over onboard sound (if you have other equipment that will let you notice), and has simple, effective software. Only thing I wish it had was a coax S/PDIF on top of the optical, but for a budget sound card, it hasn't let me down.
