Pro:I'm sure it sounds fine if it happens to work.Con:Software that doesn't install, hanging at 100% for over 10 minutes before telling me to "plug in Xonar device."Increased Windows 7 boot times from around 20 seconds to over a couple minutes.Increased Windows 7 shut down time by so long I gave up on waiting and switched off the power supply.This was on both an existing and fresh 64 Bit Windows 7 install. Boot and shut down times went back to normal after I removed the card.Apparently a common issue with the entire Xonar line of ASUS sound cards is something called an EEPROM becoming corrupt/getting deleted/overwritten or something. There is a tool available to fix this, best Google "Xonar EEPROM Failure". My EEPROM was fine and did not need to be restored.I'm not one for putting up with excessive hoop jumping, this thing stinks.

I purchased this card in February 2013 from Amazon. It actually improved my in game sounds versus the motherboard sound. I was pleased with it up until last week when it developed a staic/hissing sound in my left earpiece. At first I thought it was my headset but after swapping it out with an older Soundblaster I found the hiss went away. I contacted Asus technical inquiry and am currently awaiting them to contact me.Plus: excellent sound for the price****(Asus if you read this please post a response and let me know who I can contact to resolve the problem.)

So far (as in today only) this card has worked great. I did a build recently and am using a Gigabyte board. While the mobo is only last years model the onboard audio was horrendous. This years (a build I did for my father) is even worse. So I bought this card to test it out and.... definitely an improvement. I would recommend as a low-budget addition to any build, and plan to incorporate sound cards in future builds.Pros: improved quality over on-board, plethora of features, near no static, great amplifier (powering a set of Sennheisers), AsusCons: None so far, though a friend reported problems with another Asus card giving him issue with compatibility.Will update if anything disappoints

The software is s***, but I already knew that. I looked through dozens of reviews across many different websites, I knew the software was going to suck. It was a pain to install, for some reason just didnt want to. It doesn't automatically change settings when you plug in headphones/unplug them. It's not a huge deal to just manually change a few settings each time. The sound change was awesome though. It did exactly what I expected it to. No issues so far aside from what I already knew to look out for.

This is a nice inexpensive sound card that does what I need. Low price and very fast free shipping. I was concerned after reading the problems some people have and I was prepared to deal with a difficult installation. Copied the latest software from the ASUS site, followed the install instructions and had NO PROBLEMS. Don't waste your time like I did worrying about a hundred possible problems, just do the install and deal with problems if necessary. My MB is an ABIT IP35 Pro with on-board sound which I disabled. Enjoy.

The clarity of sound reproduction through my speakers is as 'clear as a bell'. The speakers are not at all high end but the sound is just crystal clear.Installing the drivers from the disk was a problem. The included instructions state that the card should be installed and then the drivers from the disk. Thatis what I did after disabling the onboard audio and uninstalling the Realtek audio drivers through the Control Panel. This did not work like ABC and I endedup with my 1st BSOD on this new build. After restarting I opened the manual on the disk and it states that the drivers should be installed 1st and then thesound card. This is called being up a Chinese tree, because of language difficulties. I clicked 'install drivers' again and the drivers were installed in the usualpainless fashion. The User Interface alone is worth the price of admission. One of the 'environment' options is "Padded Cell"....

works on windows 7 with no problems and windows 8 with the latest drivers from the support site. im not audio expert but my usb headphones sounded louder with my old SBlive card. the sound is plenty loud enough if you use a direct connection to the card via 3.5mm / 1/8th standard audio jack, you probably won't get the same milage if you have an audio system hooked up and then connected via the sound system/speakers via heaphone jack.its a good deal for the price im not an audiophile but this card isn't marketed towards that group anyway.

It works okay for the external 1/8" port in the front of my desktop PC, but the male connection for sound to the USB ports to replace the one on the mother board doesn't fit the cable's female connector; hence my USB headphones w/integrated mic are still useless. Otherwise, it's satisfactory...I had NO sound from the onboard sound card it replaced.

Please check my comment to this post. It has to do with the rebate ASUS says is not eligible through the link. Amazon says it is. The card is NOT listed in this rebate link.The card worked fine after I finally got the drivers installed and figured out the settings. Could hardly hear the headphones because there's a setting buried in the program options to select type of headphones or gaming mode or something. Three options and it was defaulted to the lowest. That only took me all night reinstalling drivers resetting the card etc to figure out. I'm also frustrated that the rebate link takes me to similar but not the same model products and can't figure out whether to send it in now. Is there a rebate for this? A little late now because it's bought and installed and none of the 3 choices on the form are this card. WTH!

Purchased the Asus XONAR Sound Card to upgrade the mediocre sound and recording quality of the On Board sound included with the motherboard. After installation, system booted smoothly, driver installation was simple and there were no conflicts with other system devices or drivers. There was a substantial improvement in sound and microphone quality.I gave it a 4-Star rating as the included software was lacking. Driver and interface perform very well, however, no additional feature software is included.

After doing some research, I decided to get this card based on good reviews on many websites. For the price you pay this is a great deal. I was skeptical at first if this card was going to have better audio quality than onboard sound for $30, but I was wrong, It's definitely a big improvement and bass stands out more.pros- price, audio quality better than most onboard audio, built in headphone amp.cons- for some people the Asus drivers may give them problems. I use the Uni Xonar drivers, which work great.

This soundcard helped me pinpoint noobs in CS GO. Definitely always make the upgrade from integrated audio to a discrete card. YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK NO MATTER WHAT ALL THE NOOBS SAY ABOUT THE CURRENT STATE OF INTEGRATED. Anyways, listen to me because I'm pro at CS GO

I bought this card to upgrade from Realtek on-board sound. Great card for the price but the software is something left to be desired. I would recommend for the software is to check out Unified Drivers from brainbit.wordpress.com, I'm running the 1.64 drivers on a Win7 64-bit. I would not bother with the drivers from Asus. But other then the software the card is decent for the upgrade from on-board.

I've owned many sound cards over the years, from lower end Creatives to my current Auzen X-Fi Forte. This little card is a champ, packs a surprising wallop for a headphone amp that rivals that of my Forte, very easy to use software and a potent EQ. I would highly recommend this card to EVERYONE looking for better sound, onboard audio...get rid of it...this card will stomp it! Also, the HP amp amplifies the Front Panel output as well as the Front/HP (green) rear output. So don't worry, if you use speakers and headphones...plug your speakers into the rear port. When you wanna use your headphones, just plug them into the front. This soundcard has excellent synergy (imo) with the JVC HA-RX700 headphone which is another affordable wonder (well until recently, it's been out of stock everywhere)...both play very nice together and sound great...I've yet to find a better combo in the sub-$100 category. This coming from a guy that has a $300 pair of Denon D2000's a $150 Auzen X-Fi Forte, a $100 FiiO E9 HP Desktop Amp, a $110 pair of JVC HA-DX3's and just ordered another pair of $40 HA-RX700's. Sure the D2000's are some of the best I have...and both the Auzen and FiiO E9 have more power than the Xonar, it was still surprising how well it really did overall. Do not hesitate on this little sound card, grab one, two or three before it's price doubles or they stop making it or revise it and screw it up! It's too good to pass up! If you don't need 8,000 channels out and 100 inputs, want a decent headphone amp, and great overall sound, just get this card, stop looking and enjoy!

I don't use headphones too much, so that is an aspect of this card that I wont exploit too much, instead I have a couple of expensive Bose Multimedia 2.0 PC speakers, and I would like enjoy them better. The sound is more detailed, I could appreciate it while playing games, the music also sounds better, but not that better in any case, that is my subjective perception.I downloaded latest driver from ASUS website, did not even bothered to install the provided CD.It installed many startup items in my Windows 7, I disabled all of them, everything keep working OK after restart.Maybe my Realtek audio on my Lenovo K330 motherboard is not that bad, or this is a product to enjoy using headphones and I should pay more if I want to enjoy the full potential of my Bose speakers. In any case, this was the best sound card for the price I could find at Amazon, and I did not pay that much for the experiment.

I love this audio card, and it makes a big difference from the on-board audio I used before, or with the USB headphones I also used.This sound card, along with my Audio Technica AD-700s made me fall in love with games I had passed by, and just generally improved my audio experience.Bargain price for a great sound card.

For only Thirty one dollars I spent here on Amazon which included shipping for this Xonar DG I must say that I am am happy that ASUS decided to make a cheap card with a headphone amp. I owned a Xonar D2X and Xonar DX. Also owned creative sound cards and I will never buy another create crap. They don't even update their drivers for their older cards.After hearing the Xonar D2X and DX I could safely say this Xonar DG sounds near identical. I honestly cannot tell the difference between any of them.I currently run this card with a Sennheiser HD555 and Denon D2000 headphones and it does power the Denons better than the much more expensive Xonar d2x etc.It is definitely powerful I have it set on 64 ohms aka pro gaming as they call it.Its definitely light years improvement from onboard sound. Especially if you use good quality headphones the difference really will be night and day.If you are using powered studio monitors like the M-Audio and stuff then you want this. Because the quality of audiophile headphones and speakers are so great they reveal the distortion in onboard. You won't notice it until you hear these, when you hear it through this sound card you will wonder how did you listen to onboard all these years.EDIT UPDATE:I have decided to give some feedback on the music experience some more. After some burn in and letting my ears become adjusted to it, I have noticed this card sounds warm. It has a warm and lively upfront presentation of music I guess you can also say its bright. I believe the Xonar DX and D2X was a but more laid back, with that said this thing rocks with rock music.I am listening to the AC/DC albums in FLAC loseless audio and my god are these babies great. I wish it had some form of bass boost option though.But over the years I had trained my ears to listen to music with a flat EQ. Before I hated it and liked over exaggerated muddy bass. But now that my ears are trained to proper music the way the artist intended me to hear it I can safely say these babies rock.If you are a great fan of maybe music by Celine Dion and stuff I guess you could buy the Xonar DX. Those sound a little better for that type of music in my opinion. As for the SNR difference between them all I can't tell to be honest they sound the same. (Note the DX has Solid Capacitors which has a much longer lifespan than this DG and DS. Under serious heat the DX lifespan will be greatly increased compared to the DG and DS but if you have proper cooling you need not worry I have a Cooler Master HAF case)I must also add that this card comes with the Dolby Headphone Licenses which are great for games and movies. The Xonar DS does not have this. And its more expensive so I highly recommend this card. This card is also 96khz and not 192 like the DS and DX. But I can't tell the difference. I heard the Xonar ST essence by a friend of mine and his tend to sound a little better but nothing very noticeable. And certainly not worth the asking price compared to this DG.In closing you will not regret this card. Do not let the price fool you, this thing is Audiophile product but ASUS will never tell you this because they also want their Xonar ST to sell.

I got this card because I am a gamer and I want to make sure my CPU is being used for more important things besides sound. Don't get me wrong, sound is way too often overlooked when it should be a big deal. This card provides rich sound and takes the load off of my CPU and my motherboard's on-board sound card. Increased my FPS by about 5, which is pretty substantial. I have no complaints except for wishing it was a bit louder. Seems like I have to crank my speakers a little higher than I'm used to, but it could be just the speakers. If given the choice to do it over, I would buy this card again

Made the mistake of not checking the onboard sound that came with the new MoBo I bought for my wife's new PC. Long story short, got this cheap, popped it in, downloaded the driver from ASUS' website, done in 3 minutes. Sounds good, easy to install, low price - what more is there to say?

This card completely blows the onboard sound card out of the water. Both the clarity and bass are substantially better when a decent set of speakers/headphones are used. Installation was a breeze. Windows 8 recognized it immediately although I would still recommend downloading and installing the software.

Pro:Small improvement over onboard soundCons:Something was causing interference on the card. An audible hum that became overpowering at higher volume levels. I tried moving the card to a different PCI slot (away from the graphics card) but no luck. I switched back to the motherboard sound and the hum went away.I also started experiencing crashes in various games. While I can't directly link it to the card it started happening at the same time I installed it and went away as soon as I removed it....

First, I've always owned creative cards, but they dont keep up with drivers and os. So I'm gaming along and I have 5.1's and was using the sound from the motherbaord. Wanted a new sound card so of course searched my favorite store{AMAZON} and came across the ASUS Xonar 5.1. It was for a decent price and since I have an ASUS mobo{ from AMAZON} I thought, give it a shot. Man this thing is awesome, I had forgot how good a soundcard is on your PC. All kind of goodies on it, equalizer,speaker settings and other things. The best thing is that it works in Windows 7 64 bit flawlessly. My games and music soound incredible. For the price and performance, this is awesome. You know ASUS makes the best mobos on the planet, so I dont think you could go wrong with this card. Only one thing, its not a problem I just wish it didnt do this. When you boot your computer, you hear the windows sound, you click a program and wonder what happend to the sound, well, every time you turn on your computer it defaults to headphone setting, just click on icon in your task bar and click on your speakers, not a big problem. Just so you know. All that being said it is a sweet sounding, sweet card. If you need a new soundcard and dont want to spend a $100, and want good sound, quality effects and a equalilzer, this card is must purchase, I'll make sure I have a soundcard from now on, ASUS is a good way to go. BTW all of my gaming rig parts came AMAZON! Get one!

I went 3 for 3 on these cards. 3 different cards all 3 failed. When I got one to work correctly it was great. but this has been a total waste of my time and money. You get what you paid for I guess.
