I was able to get this at 169.99. Thought it was a great deal and picked it up. The glossy finish is pretty standard on most monitors so i expected that much.A previous reviewer was correct in that the color, brightness, contrast, everything was off when it came out of the box. I tried his settings but it still wasn't to my liking. I spent another 45 minutes or so setting up the colors.Other than that the monitor works great. I don't think anybody can beat it at 169.99

monitor is great but the speakers are not good at all. i understand they will not be BOSE speakers and will not shake the house but at 100% volume they should be loud enough that you do not need to be 10 inches away to hear something.. i need to buy a laptop usb speaker to fix this issue

I won't write a full review of this monitor, it has been done so there is no need to. I just want to say an important thing, especially for customers outside the USA. This monitor is universally compatible, it supports voltage from 100V to 240V. I live in Europe and this was an important point to me. I just had to change the power cord and plug it directly into my 220V outlet and, voila! So, if you live outside the USA or simply want to take you monitor with you in a trip, you'll just have to change you power chord. Thumbs up to Asus, definitely a great brand!

Monitor worked great right out of the box with no tweaking. I use it with both my laptops embedded GPU outputting on hdmi, and my desktop which has a GTX 460 1gb card outputting on mini hdmi.No problems. I bought the a year ago and just came back to see about buying a 2nd one, but it looks like the price went up about $20 since I bought it originally. Still a good deal though.

It's the perfect size for my desk, even with a hutch, cause if i put it behind the hutch the only parts that are blocked are the sides of the screen where it's just black anyways. The monitor is great! I love the color and picture. No complaints so far!

Just got this bad boy. No problems. No dead pixels. I adjusted the display to what another reviewer (the top one) said and that definitely helped. I've played some xbox live on it and I have no input lag or ghosting issues. Overall I just love it. Great monitor at a kick ass price. If you're hesitating, just get this ish. You won't be disappointed.

I bought 3 of these monitors to triple out my desktop with the XFX ATI 6970 video card. I can't say enough about how much these 3 monitors are. They are amazing. Beautiful and I love my new set up. I had 1 dead pixel on one of the monitors and I am working to replace it at this moment. If you are considering 24 in monitors, I would highly recommend this model over and over again.

This monitor is hard to beat. I like the simplicity to everything. Hardly to miss if you have a good sound system, the audio is not much to expect from a display.For the display, noticeably vivid colors compared to my older LGMy brother has the same model that he brings over when we want to set up lans for gaming on our ps3s (i.e. very portable).Overal, it is a great display to watch movies on, play console gaming and everything in between.

I already have 2 23" ASUS monitors, so it was a no brainer to buy another one... It is all I expected, Right out of the box it worked perfectly...I works great with the other two all working at once....I just wanted to add that dealing with Amazon what a great experience, My monitor was delivered as promised, in fact 3 days early... and no shipping cost or tax,,, great job Amazon

Sent this one back. The ghosting issues are real (Geforce 8800GT GPU) and can be improved by turning off OD mode from the special hardware menu but this resets every time the monitor is turned off or goes to sleep.The stock Splendid display modes were all off in color and none of them looked good right out of the box. Only got a 'decent' color calibration based on someone elses settings that I googled.The actual build and style of the monitor is superb and is very stable on my desk.Just wasnt for me

A great monitor that I almost returned because I thought it didn't work right. First after setting up, the picture looked terrible and sound was worse with some ghosting. I thought I should have gone with something else, however before giving up I switched to a different HDMI cord. The first cord was much longer and cheaper and the second was from a different company called Accell (after research they make the best cords hands down). The picture looked great and no ghosting, 100% better and the sound as well. I felt at first the speakers truly sucked but with the second cord the speakers are good. Don't get me wrong, they are not great like stand alone, but about what I was hopefully expecting from in monitor speakers. I use the monitor for three things, I hook it up to my Dish Network Cable Box, I use it for playing PS3, and also as a second computer monitor. It's a long story why I would have a need for this monitor for all three but the most important is that it works great for all three.

I am extremely picky with my monitors. I don't see anything outperforming this monitor at this price point.That said, it does have it's flaws...The out of box colors on this monitor are HORRIBLE. So bad I was considering sending it back. I spent about 2 hours calibrating to get it right.The interface controls for calibration are also quite cumbersome, which is part of the reason why it took me so long to make my adjustments.I did, however, successfully tweak the settings and got them close enough to enjoy the use of this monitor.There will be some variation between monitors but for anyone curious my settings are as follows...Theater ModeBrightness 85Contrast 85ASCR OFFSharpness 81Saturation 39Color Temp. NormalSkin Tone ReddishI hope this helps anyone struggling with a similar issue. I would recommend to anyone on a budget, truly a "bang for the buck" product. There are better monitors out there for sure, but easily 2x the price for any noticeable gains in performance.I was able to adjust the settings to make it enjoyable.

Pros:Arrived undamaged in timely fashion. Asus packaged their monitors well. No dead/stuck pixels out of the box on either that I can tell to date. Outer Amazon box had the customary brown TLC. I ordered two of these with another item and they were all shipped in a single large box so they were double-boxed for me.The monitors themselves, I've had them for two months now and I love them. I was wowed out of the box but wanted to be at least a little patient in reviewing. Picture is rich, crisp and vibrant. I haven't even changed the settings, haven't had a need to. Using the default factory preset still and the picture is great. I viewed the other settings and went with the default. No problem running Bioshock2 at 1920x1080. Previous build uses 2 19" Samsung that are 4x3 with 1280x1024 max which look great but these are beautiful. I give this monitor 5 stars.Considerations: None of these were really a problem for me but some things you may want to consider.The vertical viewing angle. Also, they sit low. I had to put mine on stands to raise them up a few inches. I knew there was no height adjustment going in but was not aware of how low they sit. Getting out my tape and visualizing isn't the same. I found some aluminum 9" round straight-sided cake pans at a local box store and inverted them to raise the monitors 3" for me. I am 5'10", desk is 30" tall. They are a perfect fit, people think they came with the monitors. They are strong enough for me to stand on. I painted mine black to match the monitor bezel. I will be buying third one when the GPU dust settles on both sides of the fence and the cost goes down on a card that will support three monitors. This is a new build and I moved the 9800GTX+ from the old box over to this one and it still works just fine. Anything larger than the 23.6" in size would require me to rethink my physical desktop space which is currently 65.5" wide when I get the third monitor.

By the way, i paid $170 after a $20 mail-in-rebate, just so you all know.I ordered two of these Asus monitors for use with my desktop. I believe they are absolutely gorgeous monitors. I tested each for dead pixels and found none. They colors are accurate and vibrant, and the screen is plenty bright. The edges are thin and glossy, giving the monitor a nice look. The screen itself is a matte finish so there is limited to no glare.I tested the monitor with a few blu-ray movies. The picture is stunning. I'm comparing these two monitors to an HP w2207, a relatively expensive monitor i purchased two years ago. The quality is the same if not better. I think for the price, these monitors are hard to beat. I cannot compare them to newer LED LCD monitors, but unless you have them side-by-side, i doubt one would notice any significant difference.I am using my own speakers and not the built-in ones so i cannot comment on them. I might add though that the purchase of a monitor should not be based on speakers, just buy a cheap pair of external ones. Finally the stand. While it is not as ergonomic or as functional as others, it is solid. You can only tilt the screen, it is at a fixed height. While this provides good stability, if you like a custom height or you wish to rotate the screen, you are out of luck.I do not consider myself an expert, but i put a lot of careful research into purchasing a good monitor for a good price. I definitely would make this purchase again.Hope this helps.

I was initially very happy with this monitor, no dead pixels or anything... but after a couple of days I've noticed a yellowish gradient over the top half of the screen. If your head is directly level to the monitor, you won't see it much. But I don't sit like that. My desk is slightly inclined from my chair, so I almost always see the hue. It's especially noticeable when you bring up anything white. I went to BestBuy to check out their in-store model, and it did the same thing. Maybe not as badly, but it was still an issue. In fact, I also checked a few other monitors (different brands too) and several of them did the same thing. I'm a photographer so I can't really have my colors tinted like that. The only two I noticed specifically didn't have that issue were both gateway monitors. I don't know anything about those monitors, but I'm definitely going to check them out. I'm not sure if there is a technical spec that will address this issue, but even my old POS Dell monitors don't have this issue. It also didn't seem to be too much of an issue with the laptop monitors I inspected.

I purchased this monitor to go with a new desktop that I just built. I put together a pretty powerful PC and wanted a new monitor that could handle everything I was gonna throw at it. This Asus does that and more. I was a little nervous about going with a monitor that had a native res of 1920 x 1080 because my previous system had 1920 x 1200, but as soon as I plugged this thing in and saw it come to life and automatically adjust itself, all my reservations were gone. All of the ports are clearly marked and easily accessible and setup is as quick as anyone could want. My only issue is one that I have with most Televisions/Monitors today: The menu is a little hard to get the hang of.I did a lit of research on which monitor to go with too, I ultimately chose this one for a few reasons.One: it had good reviews on [...]Two: It has HDMI, VGA and DVI inputs as well as audio in for its speakers and a head phone jack. Speaking of the speakers, they are pretty decent for built in speakers, about as good as you can get.Three: the price is outstanding compared to other brands that offer very little extra features and quality for a lot of extra cash.Bottom line, this is a great deal for a 23 inch Full HD monitor. They say you get what you pay for... Well, in this case, you get that and a whole lot more.

This monitor has great aesthetics, the base is nice and sturdy and the over all build is simple and elegant but upon first use the colors were extremely off. Calibrating this monitor took hours and still my colors look off, but this is not to say it is horrible. What is horrible though is the ghosting/motion blur. Normally I wouldnt mind it but the ghosting is apparent in all of my everyday tasks.I don't know if my monitor was defective considering all the highrated reviews on Newegg, but there is quite a large number of people suffering from this monitors horrible ghosting.I really wanted to like this monitor but the constant displays trails really bothered me, unfortunately i'm returning. If you can try to view this monitor in person before buying.

Monitor came in 4 days (including the weekend)! I commend [...] and amazon on such fast shipping.Including rebate, I only paid 159 for this gorgeous display.In terms of the monitor, I haven't tested it on my desktop yet, but on a PS3 with HDMI it has great sound and brightness. Contrast is also well above average. I also didn't realize it could tilt vertically. The menu system really isn't as bad as some people say and I don't seem to notice bad viewing angles (maybe I'm not trying hard enough). Overall, ~160 for a 23 inch monitor w/ speakers? I'm not complaining.Update 2/6/2012:After more than a year, this monitor is alive and well and performing well past my standards. I have it hooked up through HDMI on my PC and I don't use the speakers anymore since I have external ones. But I can tell you firsthand how HANDY it was to have speakers built in as well as the extra input options. You never know when you may need them, but its great to know that you have them. And I should repeat myself again: the viewing angles that people grope about are not as bad as it seems. This was an upgrade from an acer 19" lcd. They dont even compare. This thing looks fantastic (both picture & aesthetically). 1080p resolution (great for movies, video, etc.) and a 2ms response time (thats super fast for lcds!). I'm not a professional but the colors and contrast seemed pretty flawless for the price bracket and screen size. I noticed a slight decrease in performance during gaming, but thats because my graphics card is outdated and my screen resolution went from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080. Really just a nice and big monitor, Asus makes a superior product overall.

I bought this monitor as a budget 24" so I don't have many complaints with it. You get what you pay for. Full HD 24" 2ms. Thats pretty good. Viewing angles aren't too good, the blacks bleed light too much if you aren't looking at the screen at the same level. Overall happy with the purchase.

It's a great monitor, beautiful, big, and gorgeous.Here are some features that I found in this monitor that simply make it amazing:- 3 Inputs: VGA, DVI, and HDMI.- Decent Speakers with a 3.5mm audio input.- VGA, DVI, and Audio cables are included. No HDMI, but that's like $5 if you purchase online.- Audio output through a 3.5mm jack! This makes it great for plugging in headphones. The audio is also adjusted through the monitor.- Volume adjustment requires pressing 1 button, and then pressing Up/Down. You do not need to access the main menu.- Instantly switch between different preset gamma/brightness settings for your certain activity. Such as theater and game mode.- Turns on pretty fast too.Here are some of the things that I do not like so much about it:- Unadjustable. No rotating, no swiveling, and no tilting. It's pretty static.Currently, I have it setup with my Macbook on DVI and Audio and Xbox through HDMI. It switches to the HDMI's audio whenever I'm playing on the Xbox, so there's no confusion over the audio. What's even better is having my headset connected to the monitor and switching between my computer and my xbox with no problem.-- IMPORTANT FOR MAC USERS --Font smoothing may not be automatically setup and the option to manual set it is removed in Snow Leopard. Follow the instructions on this link: [...] and restart any currently running programs including Finder. Hopefully, you'll notice some huge improvements in the smoothness of the text.

this monitor was good for a few days then i started to notice the ghosting and i mainly bought this monitor for call of duty and on some maps the colors on the guns would blur and when i open up the internet and move the page around the letters ghost terribly bad.

It looks very sleek on my desk and is extremely easy to start up and go. Works fine with Mac products. Sometimes it reverts to lower quality dpi; I'm not sure why or how. Other than that, no complaints.

Like many others, I was somewhat hesitant to buy this particular piece of equipment. With college coming back in full swing, I had to buy a new computer. So far, this has satisfied my machine. It looks good with my ATI 5850 and runs games in great contrast. Obviously the 20,000:1 contrast ratio is a farce (granted 100% of them are.) It runs at about 900:1, which is good considering some of the most expensive monitors on the market can't even get that deep. The blacks are deep, the screen is bright, and it comes with several presets. After a little bit of tweaking to the color, contrast, etc. it looks fantastic. I haven't run into any dead pixels *cough* as I shouldn't. It was packaged very securely and was incredibly easy to set up. No ghosting and no gray st-t-t-t-tuttering so far. I would recommend this monitor, definitely.

I bought this order through Wal-Mart so I can't comment on shipping, but would like to say this is an amazing monitor.I have wanted to change my laptop into a "desktop" for a while and looked at all the options. I wanted something under $200, but still a great picture and bigger than 20 inches.This monitor meets and exceeds all my expectations. I love it and wouldn't get any other. If you purchase it you won't be missing out!

Black-level, motion blur, color accuracy, and overall picture are very good for an LCD monitor with a TN panel. In fact, they may approach the best that can be achieved with traditional LCD technology. For less than $200, this monitor is a great value.Unfortunately, traditional LCD technology isn't good enough. Blacks are still greyish, and motion blue is still a problem. Dynamic Contrast (which this monitor has, at least if you turn the option on in the menu) may help a little, but from what I can tell is somewhat of a sham. For realistic blacks and crystal clear motion, plasma and certain LED TVs (both of which can be used as monitors, albeit very large ones) appear to be the only options. To my knowledge, new LED monitors still suffer from motion blur, as they are "edge-lit" and don't have numerous individual LED lights behind the display that can be turned on and off quickly (eliminating motion blur), as do a few LED TVs.

PROS:- Every video connector you could possibly want- 23"- Very bright- Audio is adequate for a monitor- Dedicated input select button- No obvious dead pixels (knock wood)- Cables included: DSUB, DVI, male/male audio, AC powerCONS:- Limited vertical viewing angle!- Cumbersome menu / buttons- Highly polished bezel & base scratch easily- Volume control buried in the menus- No LED backlighting (though not advertised as such)OTHER:This is a lot of monitor for the money! Blows everything in its price range away. If you need a general purpose monitor NOW and can get it cheap (rebate, free shipping, no tax) I recommend it. Though if you can wait, please do as LED backlighting is coming which will give you a potentially more efficient, reliable, inexpensive, lighter, and thinner monitor with significantly better color. I scratched the base before I could even turn it on for the first time, not a big fan of the highly polished plastic motif. Volume is adequate if you turn it way up (85% or more). Biggest con is the vertical viewing angle - no matter how I tilt it I can't get rid of the "dark sky" effect. It's almost as if there is no backlighting at the top, only at the bottom. This is common with most modern LCD monitors though. Base is not particularly flimsy, no vertical adjustment, tilt range is fine. I'm also not a huge fan of the current widescreen craze, and think a square monitor would be ideal. Have seen 1920 x 1200 in stores and prefer that 16:10 aspect ratio to this 16:9, but those are still rather expensive. Note: this is a plug-n-play monitor and doesn't require a driver in XP! Also, the box it comes in should easily survive fairly rough shipping as it is sturdy with plenty of foam inside. Amazon double-boxed mine which made me feel even better about it's journey home.

Pros: Great Monitor, 1080p, fast 2ms response time, good brightness and contrast, and very sharp picture. I use the HDMI connection because I have a 22" Samsung (2253LW) in dual mode next to it. I have a Klipsch speaker system and haven't tried the speakers. My OS is Windows 7 with Windows Media Center which I record off the air HDTV/DTV for viewing at later time over this monitor. There are 66+ HDTV/DTV channels that I pick up free using Silicondust HDHomeRun HDTV tuners hooked up to a indoor antenna. HDTV looks very good.Cons: One dead pixel in the upper corner of the screen. I would not have seen it if I had not gone looking for one. I never notice it and had forgot about it until I started this review. The presets are not as useful as Samsung presets as I am using this monitor to view HDTV. After dragging a picture back and forth several times between this and my Samsung I got it adjusted. I also compared it to my Plasma and it looks very good.Other Thoughts: You will not find a better monitor with the same specifications for the money.

I've had this monitor for more than a month and have had very little difficulties with it. When it initially came to me I really only had to snap the base to the monitor and hook it up so props for making this thing very simple to set up and get going.Have to fiddle around with the settings as the defaults were quite bright no matter which choices I selected it seemed quite blinding to look at very long and not get a headache. The interface to change these settings is a bit frustrating to go through although the variety of settings is possibly what makes learning how to change the settings the benefit.I have also liked the fact of it being a power saver in that it will put itself to sleep regardless of your computer settings. This can be a hassle watching videos though fumbling through the settings there is a way to shut off the sleep settings.Overall, the most impressive thing is how crisp the quality is even at the 1080p range it has there is almost no loss of quality no matter the settings the colors and vibrance come through amazingly. Makes playing games or watching movies all that more enjoyable and fun.

This is an excellent monitor without a doubt. As a college student, this screen has provided me with every need that I have thus far required. I use it as a screen to play Xbox on and the picture quality is superb. I also use it to dual screen my tower as well as use it as a second screen for my laptop. The picture is crisp and looks great. The speakers could be a little better, but let's face it you're not buying a screen that supposed to have Bose speakers. The built in speakers get the job done just fine, and if you really have that much of a problem with them then you can always hook the screen up to some external speakers. Great product, I am thoroughly pleased.

The price is good, especially after the coupon. The sound is OK. A minimum but not super speaker. The color is a little bit off of real colors, but acceptable. If you are using photoshop, you might want to reconsider. As everone else said, due to its 16:9 ratio, the high is lower than regular pc monitor, but closer to what hdtv is. Be warned: to watch hdtv, your pc/laptop has to have a hd output. Be it either hdmi or dvi. vga is not enough. Setup is OK. you will get to that eventually. With the wide screen, now you can have two pages showing side by side on Microsoft Word. Of course this might not be exciting to you.To conclude, this is good for regular pc usage, and the price is right --- actually probably the cheapest of the same type on the market.

OK first, This is NOT 21.5" but this is 23 inch Widescreen Monitor !!At First I'm about to get Samsung for a lot more but decided to get this since I'm not rich. The result: WOW I'm no regret of what soever. Excellent Pics, full HD, Perfect for My Gaming(XBOX 360, PS 3) just connect HDMI and you are good to go. It has speakers so I can play game or put in Headphone.The only little complaint is the base.. which made from plastic.. but its OK, it holds Fine.Get this !! You won't regret !

Purchased this Asus LCD is replace my four year old Samsung 21 inch LCD. The Asus is well worth the small investment. The image quality is clear, video quality is high and I love the 2ms response time. I have this connected to my 2009 MacMini via DVI and my resolution is set at 1080P! Word of advice for 1080P - if connecting to a computer, connect via DVI compared to HDMI. When I used a HDMI cable 1080P was shaky and problematic. Use DVI.

The monitor has a nice appearance. The picture is crisp and clear. As others have mentioned, the speaker is adequate but not powerful. Also, the controls are hard to find in dark lighting.It is good value for the money and I am certainly enjoying it, however, it is not a high-end monitor.
