This ranks as the worst piece of hardware I have ever used, and have used plenty, including flushing routers, rooting cell phones and more. I had my Linksys flushed and running as a repeater in 15', but I guess my Ph.D. in Physics is no match for this router. It is advertised as a wireless repeater and I bought it as such, but after wasting two hours of my life that I will never get back, it goes back tomorrow. It sees my wireless network fine, but when it tries to connect, it hangs forever. I tried a few other alternatives to no avail. I know that if I tried for a few more hours I could (probably) get it to work, but life is too short to struggle with useless hardware.

This is my best repeater yet! I had to return an Amped Wireless 300N because it would not work. Yet this Asus is half the price. I'm ordering another Asus just put dd-wrt on it, because I hear it is much better firmware. I just got the Asus today so I do not know how long it will last. This replaces an EnGenius ERB9250, which never worked very well.

In general, the reviews say ASUS makes good hardware and terrible firmware. So far, I agree. Before buying the ASUS RT-N16, do a web search for "RT-N16 DD-WRT", go to the first link listed and read the instructions for changing the firmware. If you are lost -- don't buy this item. Don't bother to start the install process with the ASUS firmware. Install a different firmware first. The DD-WRT firmware has the best installation instructions, but you can also consider TOMATO USB, Oleg's and OPEN-WRT. I have this router connected to an ASUS PCE-N13 N-speed wireless card in my PC and am getting 65 Mbps and getting 75 Mbps on a laptop with a N speed card. At this point the speed is dependent upon the computer's bus speed, rather than the router or cards. Depending on your computer hardware, you will probably not get the 300 Mbps advertised and should not expect to with any high speed router.

Asus makes great products. Going from a Linksys router to this Asus with good specs. Not much need to really read through the documentation and although I had DD-WRT and Tomato flashed to my Linksys routers, I didn't do this with the ASUS. It works as it is!! No need for flasing with custom firmware. I use it as a hub for a wired computer in direct lan-wan mode and wireless router for 5 phones and 2 laptops. This router works well and is blazing fast. Plus the range is better than my Linksys N router - go figure :SNo drops or slow downs, no connection problems. I recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap and amazing router with enough technical knowlegde to take advantage of it.I will update this review IF I ever have to flash DD-WRT to it. I doubt though.

so far no problems here i got this asus to piggy back on my DLINK router to boost the range on my media player and works very well. UPDATE: the DLINK router stop working and now im using the ASUS as the main router i started getting a very slow internet,my youtube on the media player stop working and my net flix stop but with this little ASUS is working better than ever THANKS ASUS

good morning. beforehand excuse my bad English. I'm a Venezuelan who buy this product. 3 hours after connecting e lost all connectivity.for a moment I thought that was his source of power or other reasons, but does not work ..Asus I have very good opinion of you but I'm very much indignation that this product does not work .. know they are guaranteed in the U.S., but only of Venezuela sent back and forth costs more than $ 50 6 / 60 is a large percentage so they say .. pay close attention when purchasing this product thanks!

Well, it's a good price, but no matter what I try, it simply won't work. I'm able to get to the web interface, downloaded the newest firmware, go through the setup proceedure, and it simply won't send or receive. Tried all the various options, but it won't work. Did a hard reset, tried with the original firmware, still no signal no matter what.There has to be a reason this unit has reviews all over the ratings scale, and it must be quality control. Some get a good unit right out of the box, others, well... I got a lemon, I guess.My advice: look for another unit, and read reviews. The nice thing about amazon is that you can send it back if you do it soon enough. all you loose is time.

I wanted a repeater for my wireless signal to the opposite end of the house 50 feet away. It is now 24 hours later. To get it to even find the "Quick Internet Setup" I had to repeatedly restart both the computer and the router/repeater (disconnect the wireless network first). Then it could not find the network until I positioned the device just so (I have 3 bars on my computer from here). Now, when it can find the network, the thing endlessly tries to authenticate the SSID WPA-PSK, apparently a known problem. No real support other than a forum, which indicates that the RT-N12 is on firmware upgrade #5 -- the router I received two days ago has the original firmware. I am NOT happy!

It shipped on time, I set it up in less than 5 minutes. I installed DD-WRT in about the same. Overall an awesome router, clean nice wireless, runs dd-wrt great and that just makes it worth 10x the price. I bought it used, said there was a scratch on the front but if there was I couldn't find it. Haven't tried the usb connection, but I didn't buy it for that. If you planning to install dd-wrt I recommend following the instructions to the letter for this model.Price? Perfect!Cond.? Spotless!Works? Flawless!

Primary use: XBOX 360/media center repeater bridgeFirst things first: As soon as you get this, flash it with DDWRT. The stock FW is EXTREMELY limited and somewhat confusing to use. Once i got DDWRT on mine, i was up and running within 30mins. 0 dropped wireless connections, double the speed (at least) of my old WRT54GS used in a similar configuration (client bridge).The one thing i wasn't totally happy with was that the router doesn't support a "client bridge" config, even with DDWRT, so the effective bandwidth is reduced. In my situation, it's still way better than before, and PLENTY of bandwidth for XBL gaming and streaming HD content over my wireless network. I'm very happy!

i am not an expert but i can say this is easy to setup i will recomend it to you now you cant go wrong ASUS RT-N12 Wireless-N Router, Access Point, and Repeater buy it and write a better review ok

If you put wrt firmware on this router you have a very serious router for cheap. The one issue that a lot of people have with this model is that the power supply is crap. Mine (power supply) died in the first 48 hours and my wireless never seems to have enough power during that time. after it died i took a power supply that had the correct specs from another router of mine and i have been using it for while with no major issues and a lot of people have been replacing them with the universal ones that you can get at local stores. The only issue that some have is that the unit can and will over heat. I had mine ontop of my cablebox and it overheated and locked up... after i removed it from on top of the cablebox and set it flat it was fine.so... this a great router with some issues but if you can get deal with those issues its a great route + more. I hear that they might have fixed the power issue at this time (reading on the wrt forums)

I bought this router after extensive research knowing that the functionality, stability and ease of use was greatly enhanced with 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT and Tomato. Many are happy with the stock firmware, but this is also a very popular router to install 3rd party firmware due to the ease of installation and the feature set available for the price. Since I loaded Tomato on the router, so I have no experience in judging the stock firmware. Loading Tomato is a simple process, I highly recommend it (Find out more at: [...]). The firmware is very well thought out and gives you access to many features are either buried deep in stock firmware or really aren't accessible at all. I have not had any stability problems.I am unable to comment on wireless N range and speed, but have not had any issue with wireless G. I have read that some people feel the lack of dual band is a huge negative, but most people don't need dual band right now.With the tomato firmware, I was able to hook up a usb printer and access use the router as a print server which worked well. Some have complained about transfer speeds when plugging in external storage devices, but I haven't tested this for myself yet.For the price, this router really can't be beat right now.

This is an inexpensive product and for that you can expect a dodgie installation procedure. I was not able to make the repeater work. Many reviews and threads in different support forums, tell the same story.I ended accepting that the repeater feature is not good and created another network. As an AP it works flawlessly and has a fantastic range.

I needed a wireless access point and this works fine for that purpose. No problems setting it up and it worked right away. I get good signal anywhere inside or outside in the yard. With the flexibility of this product I can use it as a router so I have a backup now. I did not need wireless until recently and this was a good way to add that to my home network.

I bought this router to be a repeater to a Wireless-N network in my house. First problem I had - the "easy setup" was anything but. You are suppose to plug an ethernet cable into the device, then to your PC/laptop to configure, then "simply launch a browser to get to the device setup screen." This never worked. I finally got into the device using the IP address. Once I got the repeater setup, my wireless signal for the router I was trying to extend actually worsened.After this, I decided to just turn this device into another Wireless-N router/network at my house. The performance was very erratic, prompting me to give up on it. I ended up buying a new Linksys E3000 high performance router for my 2nd Wireless-N network, as I needed powerful router to help me stream video. This Asus clearly struggled with streaming video.So, I tried to setup this thing as a repeater again - this time, on my Wireless B/G network. I keep this network on it's own so all my non Wireless-N devices can connect to it (iPhone, iPod Tough, older laptops, PS3, etc.). I ran into the same irritating setup issues I mentioned above, but finally got it to connect to my Wireless B/G router. Problem is, now I cannot connect to it. When the "repeater" is on and allegedly extending my Wireless B/G's range, I cannot connect to it. I have to shut off this device in order to connect to my Wireless B/G network.So there you have it. This devices failed me as a repeater and as a router or access point. Spend a little more money and go with a proven company when setting up your network. I hope this helps.

If anyone is in the market for a wireless repeater this is a great option for the price. The best thing about it is that it's also a regular router and access point and there's a toggle switch at the back for each mode. I was contemplating buying a 360 wireless adapter but microsoft's price is highway robbery plus it can only be used for the xbox. This was a great solution for me. Now I have wireless for my 360 plus I can use it to connect my blu ray player and anything else I need. And obviously if I don't need to hook things up to it in the future (like if I get a new 360 with built in wifi) I can use this unit as a router. The setup is easy and you can put dd-wrt on it if you want very simply.

It works great out of the box. No problems at all. EASY to configure, even for the beginner in my opinion, as there's help at every step right there on the screen.There's advanced features for those geeks, too.Best of all... dd-wrt now supports this router. Adding that to this router makes it AMAZING. It was as easy as updating the firmware to convert it to dd-wrt, too. I've used many dd-wrt routers and this one is, by far, the best performing that I have used. Quick refreshing when changing settings, etc. Works perfect!And for the price?!? Great value!

was fairly cheap needed it to boost signal for online gaming and it did that as well as allover my bungalowsetup instructions were poor but kinda stumbled into getting it done ..... have only used it a couple of hours though , no drops ... yet

I followed instruction from the CD that came with the box to set it up as repeater. It found my wireless network but could not connect to it. I tried a dozen times with no luck.

I purchased this router to wirelessly connect my Samsung Blueray player to my D-link wireless-n router and cable modem in another room so I could stream Pandora and Netflix to my TV. I thought I may have to use open source firmware DD-WRT to get this to work but it was not necessary. The built-in Repeater option allowed me to do this out of the box. There is not much documentation about how to set this up so I had to use a little trial and error but it didn't take too long. The bonus is that now my netbook will also connect to this router and allow me to wander to the back of the house and porch with great signal which I couldn't do before. The SSID is the same. I put the netbook in sleep mode when I move it and when I bring it out of sleep, it finds the nearest wireless router. Both functions work flawlessly. This router is a great value if you have some knowledge of routers and are not afraid to use some trial and error on the settings.

Heads you win and tails you lose. I lost big time with this router. I bought this router based on customer reviews and features, both a which were excellent. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the devise to install. It refused to automatically locate my IP address and then refused to accept it when I entered it manually. Once this happens, there is absolutely nothing you can do. Their website is very difficult to navigate and they make it impossible to ask a question. There's no help line and basically you can't call them on the phone because they are in China. I went through the Help steps on their site, but it reminded me of a cat chasing its own tail.I have a feeling that this is probably an excellent router. But, if you have a problem, forget it. There is no one to ask and the procedure to ask a tech rep a question is not only frowned upon, (they tell you not to waste their time if you haven't exhausted all other avenues of help) but so difficult to execute that I gave up and returned the item to Amazon.I had never paid much attention to manufacturers claims about their Help Centers before. But this router has now made it #1 on my list!Happy ending: I went to Best Buy and bought a NetGear router with basically the same features and was up and running in 10 minutes
