I honestly haven't found any dislikes when it comes to this MB, I bought this so I could upgrade from my I9-9900k to the I9-10900k and I believe I made a very good choice. I did update the bios on first boot via flash and everything is great. I do recommend this MB.

The ASUS ROG Strix z490-E is one of the best motherboards I've ever had. If you're just beginning to overclock or don't think you quite need the top tier z490 motherboard from Asus, this one is a very solid option! The great options for overclocking and support for additional aura controlled LED strips is brilliant! Asus never fails to impress me.

This is my first Asus board and honestly i am not an overclocker.
Pros:
-solid construction
-tons of options in bios
-software aka "bloatware" is really handy and I like it
-packaging and accessories are a bonus
-lighting
Cons:
-on board leds are dim
-firmware outdated
-AIO blocks ram (need to re-orient cpu heatsink)
-wifi, i dont need it ( or do I? see below)
-Armoury crate has old drivers (check website)
-The extra fan was installed but no clue how that works ...
Suggestions:
-download the software armoury crate, AI suite 3, ez updater
-Go to the website and download the latest drivers, Armoury crate is outdated
- get the 707 firmware and install it using the AI suite3 custom firmware installer
==> download from the site, run the renamer, copy the renamed file onto a clean usb and plug it into the bios port in the back, then browse from AI suite updater and hit update on the bottom right. PC reboots twice be patient and don't touch anything.
-Install the WIFI antenna, YOU need it for Bluetooth. I didn't and couldn't understand why my Bluetooth has zero distance and figured it uses the Wi-Fi antenna. I don't use WIFI but am hard wired and disabled WIFI in device manager.
-Lights staying on after shutdown ? Go into bios>advanced>APM Config> ERP > enable (S4+S5)

Love the Asus products. They're solid, attractive and work forever. One gripe I have is in regards to the screw that holds the MOS fan holder on the motherboard. It's waaay too small and it's put on so tight that the head stripped even when carefully trying to undo it as recommended in the manual to attach the bundled cooling fan. I plan on overclocking the CPU eventually and this is supposed to be on the board for that. It would be nice if Asus would take care of this somehow.

First off this is a fantastic board paired with the i9 10900k you cannot use anything but the 10th gen processors but this is still a amazing board it has all the features you need and the heat sync helps cool down the board a lot in my opinion you don’t need the higher end skews because they look cooler or have water cooling this board does it all if you want the most out of your 10th gen processor I would recommend this for sure to soothe your gaming needs it has maximum performances the bios is clear easy with no bugs and over locking is a breeze I would give this a 10/10 for sure, yes it is pricy but you have all the features you would get on a 600$ board for cheaper this runs with a 2060 super and a i9 10900k 240 FPS + in games like Fortnite chapter 2 season 4, Csgo, and pretty much every competition like game and 180+ on warzone also this board will support heavy overclocking as I overclocked my skew to 5.2 ghz and with a Corsair h100i platinum it never went over 40 C even with heavy loads of professional Fortnite endgames! Do not buy asus’ higher end skews this one has everything you will need to game and has tons of USB ports, I would pair this board with the new 3070,80,90 skews from the rog line as they would match perfectly and excel in performance if you have any questions just ask me @Xov#0266 on discord if you are reading this I hope you have the best day ever

This will be the last time I blindly put my faith in ASUS. I really should have read the reviews for this board, but I saw that this board had the features I desired and was made by ASUS, so I just bought it. That was my mistake that I won't make again. I am yet another person who has a bad board right out of the box. It will just shut down after being on anywhere between 1 and 3 minutes. I can't even get through Windows installation. I double checked the problem was with the board by unplugging everything from the board, flashing the latest BIOS, and testing different RAM, PSU, and CPU. It seems as though there are many people having similar problems. I debated really hard on whether or not to get a replacement or to go with another brand. Ultimately I've chosen to get a replacement since I do like the ASUS BIOS and I already know the cooler I have for this build will work with this build, which can be a real struggle in a SFF case with an ITX board. I will say though, if the replacement board I receive has any problems, I will be done with ASUS until I am assured this will not happen again.

I was hoping ASUS would bring back high end small form factor to the Zx90 platforms like they have for AMD's X570 in their ROG Crosshair VIII Impact. Now I'm just happy I didn't spend $400+ on unreliable board that is supposed to be the best.

Ok i have built or upgraded more computers then i care to count over the last 30 years and to have a motherboard post 1st time no issues or to go into bios save time and language restart right to windows on 1st try is amazing . After a warm up period of a few weeks i will see how well it takes to oc (over clocking) with the i9-10850 and the rtx 3080 . Just happy as hell with it starting without bios issues. I took the picture in the set up phase as you can tell by the AO code .

Asus is on it as usual. I'm not such a fan of their TUF lineup, but their ROG STRIX lineup is always on point. This is a very good board that comes with a lot of bells and whistles. Pre installed IO shield, Error LED so you know what is plugged in wrong, and the BIOS has an optional software suite that has a lot of great ASUS AI optimization software and driver updaters. Really great stuff.

First motherboard I received had a faulty USB connection from front panel and would cause USB overcurrent issues on boot and would shutdown the PC after 15 seconds immediately. Unplugging all front panel connectors solved the issues enough to install windows and run everything smoothly.
Got a second one to fix the USB issue, only new change to the system and now the PC will randomally shutdown after 20 minutes, no BSOD. Just a hard freeze, and then shut down.

Great motherboard for a quality build. It provides plenty power for a overclocked 10900k. Nice rgb lighting of course. I use this board on multiple builds and never disappointed me

The only issue i had was that the ram slots are really close to the socket so my AIO Didnt fit because where the tubes come out of the block, they block the closest most ram slot. So i had to install my water cooler upside down so that the water tubes are on the opposite side.

Would not work with 1080ti. no video. plugged the 1080ti back into my MSI board and works like a champ. DO NOT BUY ASUS GARBAGE

I purchased this MB for my new desktop with Core i9-10900K (10th gen 10 core CPU) and NZXT H710i. It's been a while since I built a new rig, so I wasn't sure what to choose but I always like ASUS, and a knowledgeable friend of mine recently got a new ASUS MB and likes it so I followed him. The reasons I picked this MB among many Z-490 MB are (1) there is built in wifi / BT (2) there are two display outputs (HDMI and Display port). I think this is the only ASUS MB that satisfies both. There aren't many MBs with two display outputs because most people who use Z-490 paired with the latest gen Intel CPU use external GPU or two so they don't need to use the Graphics that comes with the CPU and the display outputs using the graphics chip on CPU. But I use the PC for large-scale numerical simulations so I need a fast CPU but I don't need any graphics power. But I want to use two monitors, which is why I wanted to have two display outputs. So far everything is working great, including wifi. I read that the Ethernet connection on this MB might not work well, but I only use wifi so I cannot verify this claim. I might report it when I try wired network connection. The MB fits perfectly to NZXT H710i mid tower case. I even give ASUS Aura sync a try, and attached three LCD strips. They make the PC look great at night. I also use two Samsung SSD and AIO cooler (Kraken X73) on MB and they work perfectly. Using the BIOS it's easy to OC this monster. I don't use the software, which is so buggy and confusing, so I am inclined to drop one star, but since I uninstall the buggy ASUS software, I decided not to drop a star. So far I am very happy with the hardware (not so much with software).

MCE (Multi-core enhancement) WAS ENABLED BY DEFAULT. This made my computer unable to boot *AT ALL* and because this is considered an OVERCLOCK. My warranty on my CPU is now VOID. Extremely scummy behavior.
You are able to set some UEFI settings to non values. Like you can set your vCORE to "Q" if you wanted on the BIOS version I was sent.
The VRM fan NEVER turned on. After I contacted support they literally had no answer. VRM fan curve can not be changed. VRM fan is a gimmick on this board [literally none of them work] check other reviews / forum posts.
The manual explains you can use the PUMP fan headers to control a PWM fan at any value. This is not true. It just runs at 100% all the time. The included manual is misleading.
The wifi drivers included from the UEFI are broken. Wifi drivers from their website are broken. Bluetooth never worked. During install of UEFI the motherboard kept setting PCI_M2_1 as primary boot and install drive [This drive goes thru the PCH and is not directly connected to the CPU] No way to set PCI_M2_0 as primary boot drive easily. I had to unplug my PCI_M2_0 to install windows to the correct drive.
Board was scratched, chipped, and dented in a few places due to sloppy screw installs at the factory. Foam packing for the board was good tho.
The cover for the M.2 drives is a giant pain in the butt if you have a GPU or CPU cooler installed.
Go with any other board. Over clocking was a hassle. One of the worst boards I ever had to deal with. And the "AI fan auto tuning" crap seemingly can not be disabled. And caused my fans to constantly ramp up and down. It made "Vroommm. VRoommm. VRooomm" noises.
Everything considered. I'd rather take a tub with a 12 pack of Amazon basics toasters.
My CPU warranty is void and I'm salty about that.
