Ok, I use this headset for work, which include daily calls of 2-4 hours, so I needed something that would not fail me since this is what I use to talk with my clients. Now, I used it only with Skype, so my experience is limited to that. Here is how I break it down.Pros:-Ease of use. I just plugged in the USB dongle that came with it and my computer found it. I just configured my Skype settings to use that and off I went.-Sound is amazing. It's clear and static free. From time to time I would listen to music with them and the music was crisp and the base was solid.-It had some nice integrations with Skype, including an an answer/hang up button on the headset and some volume control. No mute though.-Good range. As I work from home, I was able to be in conference calls while walking around the house up to 30 feet away from the computer that it is plugged into.-Battery rechargeable. I really dislike changing batteries and the fact that this can just recharge is a big plus for me.-Very comfortable. Well padded head set and big cushy ear pads.-Very portable: It came with a neat case and since the headset folds neatly, I would take it while on travel and use itCons:-Battery duration. The description at some point said it would last 8 hours of continuous use, but it's more like 2-3 hours. I had to have it always charging when not in use or it would definitely run out of power in the middle of calls. During some of the long calls, I would run out of battery as expected and would have to plug it to the dongle to use it that way, but it was pretty uncomfortable. This is my main problem, so I would take 1.5 star if I could.-Durability. I have had cable headsets before and they would last me until the cable tore or speakers started crackling. This set actually broke at the hinge where the ear pad and the headset join so I'm looking for a replacement now. I bought it in 11/30/09, so it has given me plenty of usage, so I'm not too heart broken about it failing now 03/18/13. I will only take 1/2 a star for that. Conclusion:As stated above, the limited duration of the battery is my only real concern about this product, so I would recommend it to any one who would use it in short time spans of 2-3 hours.

The headsets arrive earlier than expected. They were like new, however the company who is making this device also makes them for FREETALK (on skype). The company who produces these has changed the driver so that you cannot hear yourself speaking through the headset like you can on any other communication device (like a telephone). This makes it very difficult to do the one thing these headsets were designed for which is "communicate". The durability on these headsets is very bad and 50% of the time you will receive a broken headset right out of the box.2 major issues - When I received these headsets. One earpiece was not even connected, and was missing screws to reconnect them. Fortunately I have purchased 2 of the headsets in the past (FREETALK FREEDOM WIRELESS - just exactly like these (except priced at $99 on SKYPE) and had extra parts laying around to do the repairs with.Issue with the driver - When I first purchased these headsets in 2008, they had the Averna driver which would allow you to hear yourself through the speakers. The quality was WONDERFUL. The mic was omnidirectional and the sound quality was AWESOME. Range and battery life were great! However, after a year, the earpiece broke and I bought a 2nd set (FREETALK FREEDOM WIRELESS). The 2nd set had a new Averna software driver which will not allow the headsets to show up with any playback device for the mic, meaning you will not be able to hear yourself. Also the wireless range was not as good as the first set nor was the wireless signal as strong (getting interference and distance is about 75% of the 1st set.)I don't know what Chinese company is creating these headsets but i hope soon Logitech will put them out of business for the poor quality they deliver now. After spending now $215.00 now on this line of headset, i have learned my lesson and will never buy these again. The upside - this time they only cost me $35 with shipping and I already new what i was dealing with and had the extra parts all ready for the repairs to be made.BUY LOGITECH.

2 years of experience with these.BatteryFirst thing was to charge it. It said to charge for 4 hours but that wasn't really possible. It charges on it's own time and the light goes out when done and that means it's no longer charging. It went out long before 4 or even 2 hours. To charge it more I unplugged it and then plugged it back in again several times to try and get an initial total charge of several hours. that's a hassle but just leaving it plugged in for 4 hours will not give it a 4 hour charge. This is likely why some have had poor battery life but even doing this did not get the 8 hours advertised.Okay it ran out with no warning as others have said, (update)however the dongle has a solid light when connected and flashing when not, so if you glance at it now and then you will see it flashing if your headset as turned off due to battery. I plugged it in the charge before bed and it was still red/charging in the morning so it charged 4+ hours. I'm not sure the max time but I fell asleep with the chat line open and it recorded the call at over 5 hours so with a proper charge you can get at least 5 hours. I found one way to help ensure a proper charge is to be sure it's off. When plugged in it can turn on. Move the headset around while looking at the light if there's any green you need to turn it off it should be plain red only.CompatibilityOne problem I have was a warning something stopped working when I plugged it in my laptop but this turns out to be a common HP issue and it works fine anyway. So just ignore the warning. It's only an issue at start up. I later followed directions to uninstall the HP launch keys since I don't use them and no more warnings.WI-FI compatibility issue(possible). One day did have an issue of garbled sound cutting in and out. After nothing else worked I went and reset the wi-fi modem and the sound was fine again. Had the same sound problem again later and turned out not to be the wi-fi I had to change the output quality under audio so the Hz weren't more than what the headset is designed for. So if it sounds garbled try that.No such problems on my new computer.SoundTried it briefly with a song first and the sound was fantastic. I think these are the best headphones I've ever had as far as sound. Probably about equal to my dad's old headsets for his surround sound stereo.I also recorded myself and played it back. I had to turn up the headset by the button at that point to hear but I sounded good though it picked up all the background noise in the room too but it was crystal clear. This solves a long standing issue of my mics never being loud enough but wish it didn't pick up every noise too. Maybe a little foam cover would help. I have one and can try later and see if it hurts the sound quality or helps. On further listening there is a bit too much base in play back for me but using the EQ in Media player fixed this with music so still awesome sounding when adjusted correctly. Most people seem to like more base so this is probably just due to my tastes. In chat no one complained about the sound.Quality and comfortTo me it looks like it is made well and seems to fit my head perfectly with no adjusting. Contrary to what is said the book said the battery can be replaced but only a technician should do it. Hopefully that will last a couple years. Can be worn either side of the head as the mic adjusts.Update and tip: If they feel too tight you can make them looser by having the sides extended so the padded top doesn't touch your scalp, this makes the sides not as tight against your ears. I personally often have them on my temples with sound up a bit instead so I can hear things around me too. The sound on my new computer is really powerful through these, so even on my temples it's hardly turned up. So volume issues are probably computer issues. For me they tend to be too lose and can fall off if moving around a lot.I really really, needed to be wireless. With half a dozen animals and myself running around I could not go a month, often not even a week, without a flimsy headset cable getting busted and they all are flimsy. I also listen or chat a lot but am also constantly needing to get up and do other things which means taking the headset off or having a long cord that keeps breaking. I tried Bluetooth and it was horrible and promptly sent everything back. The sound with this is awesome. If this even lasts a year it will save me the constant aggravation of a wire.Update:(Quality) 6 months and now I know what others meant when they said they fell apart on their heads. The crescent piece attaching the speaker to the little swivel post is very thin and that just broke. Was very awkward to try and glue, used a mix of super and hot glue(do not use hot glue see 1year), there was no good way to hold it still long enough for the supper to work. It worked for now but will need to use epoxy once I get some. The wire was not damaged, so they are really not broken-broken. It happened on the si

I have been using the ASUS Travelite HS-1000W USB Wireless Headset for some time now and am still undecided whether to praise or condemn it. My primary use was for skype and audio transcription so comfort was a priority. The headset gets my vote for comfort and fit. In particular the ear pieces have a nice amount of cushion and the adjustable headband fits nicely without too much tension. These are easily worn for several hours EXCEPT (and this is where we go from praise to blame) there is no way of knowing how much charge is left nor is there any indication of when it will run out or power. This is particularly frustrating when on a call. Recharge time is reasonable, a few hours, but obviously doesn't help while in the middle of a phone call. Depending on how you configure your computer sound sources, in my case I default to the ASUS for communications device in order to work with Skype, there is no quick or easy way to recover. After a few dropped conversations, I am careful to keep the headset on the charger prior to any planned calls but not sure if that is reducing the life of the battery either. As for sound clarity, the ASUS is very good and that includes the built-in mic which I used to record audio readings. Bottom line, if you are careful about keeping the headset charged you will not be disappointed with the quality. I expect to continue to use until the next time it interrupts an important call which may push me to look for a replacement.

After one and half years with no problems at all I can only nitpick. The one thing that REALLY bugs me is their idea of a mute button on the headset. You can't see it or the on/mute light change from green for unmuted to blue for muted and it gives no audio cue either. That same button turns the headset on and off as well! If you hold it too long the headset shuts off and that pretty much ends the conversation. What genius thought of that setup should be sent back to customer satisfaction school! I've found if I count about one second (one one thousand) mentally I get the mute probably 98% of the time and hang up 2%. Still, I have no other real complaints and that ain't bad for a year and a half of frequent use. I was hoping for a second dongle but a review by David A. Hoke says they told him they don't sell them anymore so that's that. I just wanted it to use on a second computer to have them for wireless headphones on it. I use them for Skype VOIP and they do very well giving me probably about 150 foot range which is perfect in my little home. A few feet more and they start breaking up but they don't lose link, just sound. From reading the other reviews of broken this and broken that I must have gotten a lucky good pair. Nothing's broken yet (fingers crossed)!Cheers!

I bought two of these headsets so my wife and I could voice chat while playing our MMO's. From looking at the other reviews, I didn't expect much for the physical construction but I knew the electronics would be sound. True enough, the first headset broke where the earpiece connects to the headband. The plastic there is pretty weak and held together with only two tiny screws. Some E6000 and electrical tape and I haven't had another problem out of these.First off, the battery life is outstanding. I average about 6 hours of use off of a full charge and the other nice feature is you can charge them while in use, extending the use period indefinitely. I'm no audiophile so I can't say much about the sound other than my music and videos sound robust enough for my liking. The voice quality for chatting is crystal clear but doesn't cancel out background noise as well as you might like. If someone else is in the same room talking, it can pick them up faintly. Also, the range on the headset is great. I have to go to the complete opposite side of the house (approx. 80 feet with walls) for the signal to even begin to drop out. My wife regularly goes out in the yard with these on, leaving the connected computer in the house and has no problems.Comfort was an issue at first. After 3-4 hours of use, the headset would put too much pressure on my ears and it would begin to hurt. I found that by stretching the headband a bit wider than my head a few times the headset finally settled into a comfortable position. I can wear them now with no problem.Overall, these are the best headsets I've bought especially for the price. I've gone through 3 sets of Logitech travel headsets that didn't work nearly as well and were constantly breaking (speakers and mics not working). If you can get past the flaws in the physical construction of this headset you'll be happy with the performance of the electronics.

These headphones seem SO great, and I want so badly to love them, but I just can't... I've been through 3 of them now throughout the past 6 months or so. The first pair I bought wouldn't hold a charge for more than 2 hours. I found myself almost always on the charger, which defeats the entire purpose of being wireless. The replacement I received would not pair no matter what I did. The 3rd (replacement) headset I received seemed great, until maybe 2 months later, when one side pretty much stopped working. No sound comes through the left hand speaker. I can bend and tweak the right hand side speaker and position the headset kindof weirdly (uncomfortably) on my head to get the left side to work, but it's just a general pain in the neck. I still use them, because I love and can REALLY use wireless headphones, but I wish I could just get ONE pair that works and is reliable. The range is absolutely awesome. I can walk to the complete other end of my house (with multiple walls and electronic devices between me and the computer) and they'll still continue working clearly. When the battery is about to die, there is no warning, and it behaves differently every time. Sometimes, it just dies. I can plug it in, wait about a minute, and be using them again (plugged in). Sometimes, a static noise begins, and gets louder & louder until the headset dies. I have to plug it in for a little longer before I can turn it back on & use it again. One of the most frustrating things about this headset is the 2' charging cord. It is WAY too short of a cord. You have no range whatsoever if you're forced to use the headset while charging/plugged in. It makes absolutely no sense to me why they would do this, and you can't find a double mini usb cord anywhere else.Lastly, it is impossible to reach Asus. I attempted to contact them regarding their warranty, as well as to ask a few questions, and they never responded. It was VERY difficult to find a way to contact them to begin with.SO... like I said, I want really badly to love this headset and give it a five star rating, but I just can't.... Since the 3rd headset didn't stop working (halfway) until 2 months after I received it, I wasn't able to send it back for a replacement, and I really don't want to spend another $50 on another one. To be honest, if I had known I would've had to end up spending $100 on this headset anyway, I probably would've just gotten a Logitech or other $100 brand. Very disappointing...

Pros: My first reaction with these was that the sound was very good. People that know what my voice sounds like said the mic worked very well. The travel case is pretty sturdy and will protect the headset during travel. This is where the good news ends.Cons: There is hardly any cushion on the earpads, it's about 1/16th of an inch thick. Notice, in the picture, how close together the earphones are? After about 30- 45 minutes of use this headset transforms into head-clamps, squeezing my ears and causing increasing pain. The USB dongle for this headset is massive and blocks the USB port next to it, I had to use a USB cord extender to remedy this. A fully charged battery will not last the advertised 8 hour usage time. 4 1/2 - 5 hours is what a full charge lasted me. The flexible, bending part of the mic works well but the swivel feature moves way too easily, just about any head movement causes it to begin lowering itself. And finally the biggest deal breaker was this headset interfering with my wireless internet. Simply unplugging the USB dongle always returned the use of my wireless internet to normal. I tried it on 2 desktops and a laptop and on each system, at random intervals, this headset begins to totally block, or slow to a crawl, my wireless internet setup. None of our systems have ever exhibited unusual behavior with any USB device, nor has anything ever interfered with our WiFi. I felt a bit bad returning this as it was a birthday gift, but the headset I exchanged it for works great. This has been one of the worst headsets I have ever come across. The cheap $5 one it replaced was better. Too bad ASUS put it's brand name on this unit.If you travel a lot and only intend to use your headset in short intervals then you may benefit from this headset. The sound was very good and the mic output was decent. The swivel on my unit may have been looser than other units, I don't know as I didn't have another unit to compare it to. The interference with my WiFi probably could have been overcome, and was probably due to my specific setup but I just didn't want to deal with it. IMO it was easier to just drive to the store it was purchased at and get a different model/brand .

This looks like a great product at first glance. It's a lightweight wireless headset that, unlike most others on the market, will let you use it while it's charging. It has excellent range, charges very quickly, and is completely painless in the setup process when using the latest version of Windows. It's like a cheap dream come true.Until you've owned it for 2 months. That's when the plastic swivels that hold the cups to the bar shatter. Closer inspection reveals that they're two pieces of plastic and aren't glued together very well. A couple of zip ties wrapped tightly around the swivels will prevent further damage and reverse damage that's already occurred.Until next week. That's when the cuffs themselves (statistically the left one, because of the microphone boom) will shatter, coming completely off of the swivel mount. There's no way to repair this. I've tried several methods, but the plastic these headsets are made from is so thin that angry thoughts can cause them to shatter. Reinforcing them with any other material only causes the plastic to break somewhere else. ASUS won't replace a physically broken headset, either, claiming that physical damage to the product has to be the result of mishandling. They claim that in order to break the plastic you have to apply direct force to it. They shatter when you reach out to pick them up. I guess breaking inertia (object at rest, etc) counts as 'direct force' in ASUS' legal department's mind.Stay away, stay away, stay away. Don't waste your money on these. Find something else. Hook two tin cans and some string up between your speakers and your head. Anything but these. Seriously.

I keep seeing how people are having trouble with these headphones breaking. We've had ours for nearly a year and a half now and they're going strong. My husband uses his all day at work, and we often use them at night gaming. The guildies in our Ventrilo channels, and friends on Skype, have no problems hearing us with them. The only problem I ever have is that every once in a while my pair loses its connection to its dongle. Either re-pairing them, or plugging them back into the dongle, cures it right away. My husband's don't have this problem, and it's the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars. It's entirely possible that the difference is that my headphone's dongle sits close to my PC's wireless card. I'll test that out one day when I am thinking about it, and swap with my husband. They do fold in a way I have never seen headphones fold, and if you try to wrench them open the wrong way, bad things could happen. And of course, as with any product, I am sure the occasional pair is simply defective. But as I say, hubby and I are still rocking ours. If/when I replace them, it will be with a pair that I can pair to my phone as well as to my PC.

I lost the USB stick for the headset. I went to the Asus website to order a replacement. I found out they don't sell the part on their website for some reason. After calling product supprot and then being asked to call back using three different numbers, I got someone who could help me order this part. Asus said they would replace it for free as I was within warranty, but the serial number is only printed on the USB stick, which was the item I had lost, and they would not honor the warranty without the serial number. I then asked if I could go ahead and purchase the part anyway and they don't sell it anymore. I bought this headset less then a month ago.

I have handled this second pair with the utmost care possible and still they break. The battery life is decent, but the range isn't. The wireless signal drops semi-frequently for 3-4 seconds (incredibly inconvenient for any VOIP).I'm a fan of ASUS, but please don't buy these damn headphones. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt after the first break. Big mistake.

This is by far the best wireless headset that I've used and is definitely the best in it's price range. It is comfortable, adjustable and does not feel excessively heavy. It is quite possible to forget that you are wearing it. The charger connection is a mini-USB connector and with many cell phones and other portable devices using the same connector you are likely to have plenty of them around. When the battery runs out I can continue using it in "wired" mode as it recharges. The mic boom is on the left and is extremely flexible. On the right are the controls: On, off, volume up and down and a 'Link' button which can be slaved to perform other functions in applications like Skype where I have it configured to answer and hang-up. The compact carrying case for the headset and its USB fob is the cherry on the top.I am very impressed with the design and engineering of this product. I bought a number of headsets from other better known brand names and found that they were either clunky from poor design or fragile and easily broken. Since I found the Asus HS-1000W I have been enormously pleased with it and it has held together through my travels very satisfactorily.Strong Buy recommendation. :)

Headset is pretty good but I went through my first one in no time. I honestly think my roommate was the one who broke it, but it is a very common thing for these particular headsets to break. I also had a lot of trouble getting the first one to work so I believe it was already 'messed up' when I received it. My second one I ordered worked flawlessly and the only issue that came up is it snapped in the same place as the first one. I used some super glue though and reattached it and have been using it since without an issue. I really enjoy the wireless feature as well as being able to answer Skype calls while I am away from the desk. A big complaint was the instruction booklet, it looked as if a six year old wrote it. I have seen children who can not only speak but write better than the book is written.

I bought this headset in February for use during my World of Warcraft raid nights.I have no complaints on the sound quality (although they would make a loud hissing noise from time to time, connecting the cable solved this problem).I did not find them comfortable at all after an hour of use but I guess this is more of an individual thing. The recharging cable is so short, its not even funny. Why do you care about the cable? If your battery runs out (lasted 3-4 hours for me usually) and you still need to use the headset, you'll want a cable that will allow you to do so. I have a USB connection on my monitor and it was still too short for me.But the real problem with this headset is the build quality. It SUCKS. Big time. The plastic that holds the earcups is too thin and just snapped one day. I know they say "you get what you pay for" and I did not expect my future kids to use it, but for $50 I did expect this headset to last at least a year. It didn't even last 6 months. I am an adult, I have no kids and no one else used this headset except for me. I took very good care of it, like I do with all of my gadgets and computer peripherals. And what's really irritating is that ASUS opened an RMA for me, had me send them the headset for repair (I paid for shipping), and now they refuse to repair it claiming it's physical damage that is not covered by the warranty. They ask for $90 to send me a replacement (YES. $90. the MSRP is $60, but they want $90!). I will avoid ASUS products like the plague from now on, and I suggest to anyone who reads this to do the same.

I purchased 2 of these about 9 months ago for a hundred bucks each, and was very pleased with the sound quality (better than my older Plantronics and Logitech headsets), and was initially satisfied with the build quality. Six months later, the swivel connector broke on one pair. I glued it back together, and it worked for a week and broke again. I just bought two more to replace the two that were a year old, and BOTH pairs broke when I lifted them out of their carrying cases. The screw-posts on the swivel connector had disintegrated (like the screws were tightened too much). If you check online, this is a chronic problem. Shame too, the audio quality, range and battery life (also a plus to be able to listen while charging) are all awesome for this headset.Now... if only I could figure out a DIY headset band these would connect to I would be set. Like I said, the audio quality and range/battery life are all excellent... too bad 75% don't last long enough to enjoy!

Not wanting to wait I just epoxy it back together and loose the swivel function and fold function. Used one day and the other side broke same spot. Now it is epoxied. Out of the rest of the things it seems great but cannot give it more than a star if it breaks first day every time someone buys one.Sound - Great 4/5Easy Setup - 5/5Voice - Great 4/5 No complaints no one saying I sound super clear though just seems to be the same

Ok, first I just have to say that I did read the instruction book unlike many people and this one is hilarious. Who did they get to write this? My guess, A fresh college grad of Taipei university. This is too good not to share. Here is an excerpt then I will finish my review. "Please remember to charge the battery every month at least. And notice that the battery power will lose gradually even you do not use HS-1000W." Theres more but you will have to buy the product to read it.So, I just returned my Razer Carcharias because a headphone started to go out. I figure its something to do with the wire and my son, so I decided wireless this time. Comparing the two is a joke though. The Razer destroys these sadly in comfort and sound quality. I will stick with them though because the cheapest nice wireless gaming headset is about $160 (Creative WOW headset) These Asus headphones are not the headphones you want to wear at a 10 hour LAN party but for an hour or two it would be fine. Just not comfy enough for long periods. Very little padding and they are not noise cancelling by any means. The sound quality is mediocre but if they are being used for VOIP (Skype webex calls ect) then they are fine. They wont give you the deep bass or realistic sounds of bullets flying by the right side of your head though. I play Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I like realistic sounds but don't have the cash for everything I want. This does allow me to hear whats going on, talk to my squad, and doesn't break the bank(which makes my wife happy).A few positive notes, I was told that my voice was very clear. I could also hear voices clearly. I love the case. It fits into a great little travel case and will definitely make them easy to take them on trips with me. Most other headphones are huge and pretty fragile. These fold nicely and have the case so I could toss them in my computer bag and not worry. Then the fact that they are wireless is great. The USB dongle is big and you must charge using the dongle but no big deal. I like that the driver is built into the dongle too, so no downloading needed. I don't know what the standard for battery life on these are but the booklet says that these last 8 hours and need to charge for 2.5. I think thats pretty good. I don't know who could stand to wear these headphones for 8 hours strait but at least if you chose to you would still have juice.Overall good headphones. I wish they were a wireless version of the Razer headphones but at least they seem to do the job and even at a little lower price point. They are easily portable too which is nice. They are about as good as I expected and perfect for talking to people or the occasional movie on the road.

Broke after 6 months normal use, same issue with the broken plastic as others have reported. Worked OK before now unusable. Not recommended.

I read the reviews about how these break easily, but was sick of my Logitech clearchat only lasting a year, so i bought it anyway. It never fell on the floor and I never traveled with it, but the ear swivel just randomly broke when I went to adjust the headset on my ear one time.I'm better off with buying an $80 Logitech every year than two $50 asus every 6 months.Other than that, I liked the fact it was light weight. I disliked there was no quick mute button (you have to hold it for several seconds) and there was no quick on/off switch (you have to hold it for several seconds longer).

I can only repeat what the throng of others have already reported about these wireless Headphones... great sound but cheap quality.I actually purchased two of them for the home and the first pair broke at the plastic ear piece connector within 2 months. The second pair just broke yesterday... yep at the same plastic ear piece connector that attaches to the head band component. The thing is, I had read the other reviews and `dismissed' what they had to say. I concluded the other customers must've been `too' rough with the headset. My mistake, and my `bad'. 5 months later I have two broken headsets and clearly would never purchase these again. PLEASE learn from my mistakes on this product. There are other wireless headphones out there with a much better design. SEE Sennheiser RS 110 and RS 120 for a similar price range item.
